ITunes match, disappearing library

HELP!  I'd like to know how to restore my library, before iTunes Match. I had almost 1000 songs in my library (some added from CD or albums), and now only the ones purchased through iTunes appear in the library.  All my playlists are gone, as well.  I'm using Windows 8, the newest version of iTunes, and an iPad 2.  Won't be using iTunes match anymore ...but now would just like to restore my library.

The Song has to upload or match for it to be available to download.
The message looks like standard iTunes for local file missing.
The download caused a new file to be put in the correct location for iTunes.

  • ITunes match and library problems

    Hi
    I'm getting very frustrated. i have a massive music library, and I recently subscribed to iTunes Match. Half of the songs on the library are greyed out both on my iPhone and my PC (where my music is stored. Mostly the music is not bought from iTunes, by the way.
    Anyhow, one thread suggested it could be DRM issues. So I found an album that was greyed out, manually added it using "Add File to Library" and then it worked fine except to say that there were no duplicate titles in the library.
    I don't want to go the manual route for so many songs, so is there a way I can delete the entire library database, remove all songs from iTunes match, get iTunes to search and add my entire mucic collection from scratch, and then add it back to the iTunes match system?
    What's the best way of doing this please?
    Thanks

  • After 5.1 update, iTunes Match disappeared

    Hello. I just yesterday updated my Apple TV to 5.1. After the update completed, I noticed my iTunes Match (the orange Music icon) had disappeared. I thought it was odd since I still am subscribed to Match and had not turned it off. After checking the settings, I noticed it was toggled On yet the icon was nowhere to be found.
    I tried toggling it on/off a couple of times, then when it didn't work I put the  TV to sleep. Today, I tried the toggling again and after no avail, I signed out of my iTunes store account and then signed right back in, toggled Match back on, and still no icon. Please help. I don't want to have to restore the Apple TV through iTunes and set it up all over again if I don't have to. Thanks.

    My AppleTV was connected via ethernet port to time capsule.  It was not able to get iTunes Match working, nor was it able to connect to photstream.  I unplugged ethernet and connected the AppleTV via wifi to the same time capsule and was then able to get both iTunes Match running as well as connect to photostream.

  • Is the iTunes Match Updating (Library) Process Never Ending For You Too?

    I think that I added about 1200 songs to my iTunes Library over the past 3 days. A lot of those songs are obscure and are certainly NOT in the iTunes store so it will have to upload them, but this latest updating process is going so slow it seems like it might be stuck. I rebooted my system and started iTunes again. Maybe this will help. What's odd is that the process seems to linger near the end of 'Step 2: Matching Your Songs With Songs in The iTunes Store' indefinitely--which seems odd. I would think that if it was an 'uploading issue' that 'Step 3: Uploading artwork and remaining songs' would be where the process would hang up and not on Step 2, which should seemingly fly by.
    Has anyone else experienced this hang nail with iTunes Match?
    We have good speed broadband (cable supplied) Internet service through Time Warner.

    Going forward, I think Apple needs an iCoud/iTunes Match 'System Status Page' that users can check before they undergo big uploads at home.. Dropbox and many other Cloud-Based Services do that and I think Apple could certainly benefit from cluing in their customer base in Real Time.

    But notice the date and status.  I also heard from phone support that this is really for iCloud and not necessarily iTunes Match itself.   I agree that they should extend this out to iTM as well - would make a lot of sense and would avoid the confusion we are experiencing.

  • ITunes Match disappears from iTunes store and won't work

    Hi there,
    I'm having 2 problems, and hoping *someone* can help, because Apple sure can't.
    I just again purchased iTunes Match, even though last year it never worked properly (it would load 20,000 songs, but then each time I backed up my phone, they would all disappear and I would have to spend days and day to re-load them every time).
    I have a MacBook Pro, iPhone 5 and the newest iPad. When I click on music on my iPhone or iPad, only 36 artists show up when there should be thousands.
    I just logged in to iTunes on my computer, with my phone connected, with the music drive connected, with iTunes Match turned on, on the phone, and iTunes Match does not show up anywhere. In fact, when I click on the store (how else are you supposed to get to it anyway?? It surely isn't intuitively placed), iTunes Match shows up for ONE SECOND in the menu on the righthand side and then it DISAPPPEARS. I have re-started, searched the forum, searched the web, and called the Apple store (which as usual was no help at all).
    I checked that it is turned on, on my phone, and went through all the iTunes preferences and there is nothing there. PLEASE please help. I just paid for this darn thing again for another year, but it will not work properly, and now I can't even access it. (And I noted one post elsewhere that said to click on the iTunes store and enable it. That is not an option for me. When I click on the store... ok, I already explained this above).
    Would appreciate any help possible. Thanks.
    Sincerely,
    CP

  • ITunes Match disappeared?

    My itunes Match has just randomly stopped working on my iphone, playlists have disappeared. Settings weren't changed, all set to on. The only thing that \ changed is I updated my payment info in my account yesterday. Eeverytime I open an apple app (store or apps) I am prompted to enter my ID multiple times.  I can't find a number to contact Apple regarding this issue. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

    Thanks! I called the number (I'm in Canada) but the automated service kept referring me to go to the website. I was starting to get frustrated, so ill just wait for them to contact me. I'm not in a rush.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

  • ITunes Match- deleting Library from PC

    Recently purchased ITunes Match and my thoughts so far are quite favourable. That being said it's not without it's faults and glitches.
    Need some advice on a problem I have encountered. Not a techophobe so please be gentle.
    After sending all my music files to the iCloud I presumed that I could delete my music library from my pc. Not from iTunes but 'music' folder on Pc (windows vista) to create some space.
    On deleting some of the music went back into ITunes to play some of the removed songs. They are still in iCloud / ITunes but have an exclamation mark attached to them at left hand side. When I press to play them comes up with a pop up box saying that it ' can't find file, would you like to find it.
    I thought one of the benefits of the match service is that you can release space on your pc by deleting music files or am I missing something. The files in question have the cloud symbol next to them so they are definitely in ICloud. This is not a problem on any iOS devices. Just my Pc.
    I read one thread about this saying that if you can set up another iTunes account by pressing the shift key on iTunes start up. Did this and the songs rectified themselves and could stream them however when I added new content to new iTunes account and deleted file from PC same problem occurred.
    I must be doing something wrong. Any advice appreciated.
    ****Also how easy is it to change album art in iCloud as a Lot of the art has dissapeared or been replaced by wrong album covers
    Thanks

    Just highlight all of the songs with the exclamation point and DO NOT CHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS DELETE FROM ICLOUD TOO.
    I REPEAT TO DO PRESS THE BOX THAT SAYS DELETE FROM ICLOUD TOO.
    As robeet said do one song first.
    Just delete from your library.
    When you have done that you will see little clouds besides all your songs and you can then download them again and BACK IT UP TO A HARD DRIVE.
    I'm not being hard, but is is really important that you pay attention to the caps words.  If you check that box that says to delete from icloud then you will permanetly delete your stuff from the cloud and you will not have anything.
    After you redownload your music, I would strongly recomment that you store a back up on an external hard drive so that if anything happens to the cloud you will have a back up.
    That is what I would do.
    Or you could create another library by quitting itunes.  Hold down the alt key and click the itunes icon again.  Keep holding the alt key until a dialog box shows up and you can create a new library.
    Create a new library and then sign into itunes match by going to store>turn on itunes match and sign in and you will see all of your music that is in the cloud begin to show up and you can then download them again from there.
    As far as the artwork you can hightlight an album and then righ click and press get album artwork, or you can find the album artwork on google images, just try to get at least 300X300 perferably 500/X500 or 600X600 and then highlight the album or or song and right click and get info and if it is more than one song you will see a little box in the bottom right corner that has album artwork under it.  Double click that and go to where you stored the picture you saved and click on the picture and press open or ok whichever it is.  If it is just one song there will be an artwork tab that you can press the add button and locate your file and do the same thing.
    I would try right click and pressing get album artwork first.  Sometimes it will get the wrong artwork if you metadata does not match what is exactly in the itunes store.  It can be a real pain.

  • ITunes Match - Completing Library

    Is there any way to complete the library by eliminating low bit rate tracks and uploads that should have been matches?
    Having resolved ineligible tracks (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3623151) and inconsistent results (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3629795) there are two categories of tracks that would be great to resolve, notably:
    (1)  Low bit rates tracks:  These are listed in a smart play list showing all songs with a bit rate less than 256.  Many of the tracks listed can easily be found in the iTunes Store, hence they should 'match' allowing a download at 256 - how can this be achieved?
    Example:
    (2)  Uploaded tracks: These are listed in a smart play list showing songs with an iCloud Status of uploaded.  The majority of these tracks are also readily found in the iTunes Store, several being exact matches for entire albums but for some reason iTunes Match did not identify the match - how can this be resolved?
    Example:
    With these as the last two areas to resolve, iTunes Match will have successfully converted my full library.  Any suggestions very much appreciated?

    Worth looking again at the current description of service, it reads:
    "Here’s how it works: iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to iCloud for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 20 million songs in the iTunes Store, chances are your music is already in iCloud. And for the few songs that aren’t, iTunes has to upload only what it can’t match. Which is much faster than starting from scratch. Once your music is in iCloud, you can stream and store it to any of your devices. Even better, all the music iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality."
    Given this many of the requests for support are naturally focused on how to complete a reasonable matching exercise.  Currently approximately 8% of my library is not successfully matched, hence the number of files 'uploaded'.
    If the service simply said 'whilst matching can never be wholly accurate we anticipate that the majority of your library should be matched provided that the songs are held in the iTunes Store' many folk would simply accept the partial matching as a feature of the service.
    For as long as this is not made clear it is a source of frustration for many that apparently clear matches are not succeeding.  A further example from my only library is provided below:
    Example:
    Here in the first album by Phil Collins we can see all tracks are successfully matched.  In the second album many are successfully matched but 4 of 15 are uploaded.  Looking at the iTunes Store Phil Collins Serious Hits... Live! is shown as a current album.
    iTunes Store entry:
    The suggestion, flagged by Keith, that Apple might offer a 'force upload option' - or mine that Apple might offer a 'discretionary match option' would prove very helpful in resolving these apparent anomalies.
    Having made these points it has to be said that iTunes Match overall does represent a superb service, it is simply let down by the current description which over promises.

  • Macbook Pro and iMac iTunes matching music library

    Is it possible for both my computers to have matching libraries?
    Possibly using iCloud?

    Yes.
    I have three computers an ipad, an ipod and Apple TV,
    using iCloud they all have the same library and playlists available at all times.
    You have to have iTunes Match, which costs about $25 per year.  Well worth it.
    Basically the "match" feature let's you upload all the content in your itunes account from all your devices,
    to the iCloud.  Then the you can then download content from the iCloud to your devices or simply
    play it from the iCloud.
    I have had no issues using iTunes Match and iCloud.

  • HT5085 itunes match move library

    I am using iTunes match and I like it a lot. I have a local copy of everything on an external drive connected to my MacBook Pro. However, I often take that to work, leaving local media that's not in iCloud unavailable to those at home hoping to stream something via Apple TV or another machine. I'm looking to move the local copy to a Mac Mini that I just acquired. What does this entail? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Hello i have the same problem. Have you resolved the problem, if so how did you do it?

  • ITunes Match has been crippled on iTunes 10.7. Anyone else experiencing this? Please help!

    Running iTunes 10.7 on 10.6.8
    So, I am still on iTunes 10.7 (yes, I have been with iTunes 11 and have tried iTunes 12, but in my opinion, 10.7 is hands down the best version of iTunes to date).
    I have been using iTunes Match on iTunes 10.7 for over a year without issue. Anytime I launch iTunes or wake my computer up from sleep, it automatically starts doing an update and any new songs are instantly added to the cloud. It was reliable and worked flawlessly until about 4 days ago.
    A few days ago when things started acting weird, the first thing I noticed when I opened iTunes was that it no longer updated iTuens Match automatically and the iTunes Match tab was missing under the iTunes Store tab where it normally always appears.
    I manually tried updating iTunes match by going to the top of the page, under Store < update iTunes Match (at the top of the page) than iTunes Match appeared.
    It did the 3 step process, but once you hit 'done' at the end. The iTunes Match tab disappeared The iTunes match column disappeared and if I right click any of my tracks, ALL my music had the 'add to iCloud' button (files that were already in the cloud).
    I didn't lose any of my music. On my iPhone, all my music still appears when I have iTunes Match on.
    Here is what I have tried to fix the problem:
    1. Completely removed my Apple ID identity from iTunes: Turned off iTunes Match, deauthorized the computer and signed out of the Apple ID
    2. Removed iTunes Store cache and quit iTunes
    3. Did 'repair disk permissions' in disk utility
    4. Changed my iTunes folder to 'iTunes 2' so it would create a new iTunes folder. When I opened in the new iTunes. It was a blank slate. When I reauthorized my computer and turned on iTunes match, it still wouldn't work. When I hit 'update iTunes Match from 'store' at the top of the page, it goes through the 3 step update, but once it is done, iTunes match disappears and none of the songs in the cloud appear (this is what leads me to believe that maybe I am not alone, and maybe Apple has stopped allowing iTunes 10.7 users from using iTunes Match)
    5. I once again did step 1 and 2 and re installed iTunes using the saved DMG file.
    6. I did an smc reset (this was a long shot chance of doing anything, but I wanted to exhaust all my options)
    7. Restarted my computer
    I also noticed that you can now longer download the iTunes 10.7 file from the Apple downloads page. When you try to download, you get this error message:
    An error occurred while processing your request.
    Reference #30.7ed16bd1.1425254177.1b62a8
    This is another possible signal that worries me. That Apple maybe removing online tools like iTunes Match on older versions of iTunes.
    Is anyone on here still on iTunes 10.7? Is iTunes Match still functioning normally for you? Do you have any tips on what I can do to fix this problem? Are there any library or preference files associated with iTunes that could be causing the problem?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

    Happy to report that iTunes Match has returned to working like normal on iTunes 10.7 on my computer today. If any iTunes engineers read this thread, I really appreciate the fix.
    Has it returned to normal for you?

  • ITunes Match, AOL Account, Apple ID

    So here's my dilemma. I tried to sign up for iTunes Match on my mac but was told I couldn't because I was still using my old AOL account for iTunes and iOS App Store purchases (this is not an Apple ID, this is from when iTunes allowed you to sign in directly with an AOL Account). I was prompted to convert to an Apple ID but when I try to go through with it, I get an error "Your request is temporarily unable to be processed" I've tried multiple times over multiple days and still get this error.
    I do have a real Apple ID created during the MobileMe days which I use for iCloud services and Mac App Store purchases. I'd just iTunes Match my library to this Apple ID, but all my iOS Apps are attached to my old AOL account, and iOS only allows one Apple ID to be assigned to both iTunes Match and App Store purchases. My assumption is that if I changed that to the newer Apple ID then all my apps purchased under my AOL account would no longer be able to redownloaded or updated directly from my iphone or ipad. Does anyone have any solutions to this?

    I don't really have any good suggestions for you except to say if you have an Apple Store near you perhaps someone at the Genius Bar can help you.

  • HT4914 how to upload songs from itunes match onto a new computer

    Hey Folks , just wanted to get clarity on something , when i have iTunes Match & my library in the cloud ... would i be able to upload the library to a new computer? i want to start itunes match on my laptop , which holds the library , but want to uplaod the library to the computer , would i be able to with itunes match ?

    Hello dolladp
    If you enable iTunes Match on the old computer, it will match and upload all the files. When that process is complete then all you have to do is enable iTunes Match on the new computer and download if you choose to the new computer.

  • How do I stop iTunes Match from replacing new artwork with old artwork?

    So, for a while I customized the art on some tracks in my music library, and unfortunately those tracks had the customized art when I uploaded them to iTunes Match. Now, whenever I try to change the artwork back to the original art, it reverts to the synced art whenever Match updates. I've tried deleting the tracks from Match and off the computer and then replacing them with files from my back-up drive, but as soon as Match sees them it gives them the old art again. It's pretty damned irritating. Any idea how to get it to stop?

    Provided you are the sole user of the library, with no other occurence of iTunes Match service operating, it is possible to win!
    The steps are annoying and very manual, as follows:
    1.  Create a Secure Backup of the source Library;
    2.  Ensure no other instances of iTunes Match are operating on related libraries or devices;
    3.  Turn off iTunes Match for your source Library;
    4.  Make the changes using 'Get Info' on the Song files concerned
        (a) Select the incorrect Album Art & delete;
        (b) Confirm cover flow for the selected Songs is showing absent Art - blank with a note symbol;
        (c) Reselect the Song files with 'Get Info';
        (d) Paste in New Album Art';
        (e)  Confirm cover flow of the selected Songs is showing the new Art;
        (f)  Repeat (a) to (e) for each set of Songs as needed.
    5.  Confirm when all complete, via cover flow, that the correct Art is in place for all Songs.
    6.  Take a second secure backup of the library to ensure that you will never need to add Art a second time.
    7.  Turn on iTunes Match; Update iTunes Match; Allow library to remain connected for some time (an hour+).
    8.  Repeat step 5.
    9.  Gradually turn on related libraries / devices one by one.
    10.  You will see the new Album Art will have replaced the old Album Art.
    Note:  iTunes Match does the promulgation of Art as a background task, so it make take some time for the correct Art to appear on all Libraries and Devices - at no stage should Songs in your source library revert to incorrect Art - if this happens check all associated Song files to make sure that they all have the correct Art, restoring via file import from the secure backups as needed.
    You will need to check after a few days on a Song by Song cover flow view to ensure that every incorrect Art occurence has been eradicated - repeating the steps above for any remaining trouble makers.
    Having completed this first hand can confirm that the excellent result is worth the effort!
