Itunes Match fiasco!

I want to caution everyone about the so called service called Itunes Match, as advertised in the Itunes store.  This feature is promoted as a backup source, a place from which to stream all of your personal music (if desired).  And more importantly, the service is also promoted as a way to upgrade all of your personal music library to 256 kbps regardless of whether it was purchased from Itunes or any other source.  Itunes Match is advertised for 25 bucks on an annual basis.  And once your personal music library has been upgraded to 256kbps, the songs remain yours (as they always were in the first place) no matter whether you continue with the annual iCloud service or not.
I just spent (literally) all of my Saturday evening on the phone with Apple!  The big fat problem is Itunes claiming that the music was successfully matched and uploaded into iCloud and also available for upgrades to 256kbps from my lower compression rate songs.  This did not happen and no one could show me any record of how (or what manner) in which my personal music library was actually backed up through the Itunes store or otherwise.  There was also NO opportunity to upgrade my personal music library to 256kbps.
I only share this experience on this member forum to warn others that you just might encounter a lot of aggravation if you think you're merely going to pay $25 bucks for a nice backup of your entire music library along with upgrades to all personal songs up to 256kbps.  Apple needs to fix the problems that prevent the correct archiving and upgrading of songs or simply STOP advertising this so called Itunes Match service in the Itunes store.

Yes, you are correct in stating that it not really a 'backup'.  But Apples does clearly promote it as a way in which you can play personal music on a device without having the personal music stored on your local hardware.  So in that sense, it is an archived version of your personal music....albeit with the quirks as the article you reference clearly described.  And it goes without saying that everyone should backup their personal data (including music) to an external hard drive and/or other devices to ensure you always have a backed up copy of everything.
But the main point I wanted to drive home with my earlier statement was the troubles I had in attempting to accomplish something that I thought would be so simple....as well as to caution others to be prepared if they chose to purchase Itunes Match.  Having said all of that, here's a few suggestions that I hope could help others who may find themselves in trouble with Itunes Match.
If you choose to purchase this service, let it do its thing and scan for all matches and complete any uploads that the system determines it needs to upload to iCloud.  Once this is done, here's the part I want to get at.  If (like me) one of your main objectives is to upgrade the bit rate quality of your older music, consider the following:
Click on Itunes Store and then click on Itunes Match
You will see the Itunes Match screen...now click on 'add this computer'
Once this is done, type in your Apple ID and password
Click on Itunes Preferences within the Itunes program and make sure the box is checked (under the Store tab) for 'show Itunes in the cloud purchases'
Now, when you go back to your library (song or artist view), you may encounter the same problem I did!  That is, you are looking for the cloud icon next to the song (obviously so you can download the higher 256 AAC version from Itunes).  If you don't see that option it's because Itunes isn't showing the cloud version because you've already got a version of the song on your local computer (albeit-perhaps a lower quality version!).  This is why I really got stumped and no one could seem to help me!
To get around this problem, log out and go into Itunes as a guest user on your computer.  Basically, you want to get a clean view of Itunes without it having the option of reading any of the existing songs it previously saw on your hard drive!
At this point, following the previous steps of clicking on the Itunes Store and then Itunes Match
Add the computer again to Itunes Match
Enter your Apple ID and password and ensure preferences is checked appropriately as described above.
Now, view that library screen again.  This time the system is forced to show you the cloud versions only since there are no local/hard drive music files for Itunes to read in your guest account.  From this point, you can right click and start downloading each song at the 256 AAC.  I found the easiest way to manage this is to then storage these songs on an external hard drive or thumb drive.  You can later merge these songs into your hard drive music library once you ensure that Apple Itunes has not screwed up by providing an incorrect song or no song at all.
I hope my feedback helps others (in some way).  This was one big exercise in frustration for me; and was initially made far worse by a Apple rep who had no clue how to assist me.  But is has now been worked out.

  • How long for iTunes match to get songs in iCloud?

It has been 3 days and only 30+ songs out of a couple hundred are available from Match. None have been added in the last 2 days. I am still signed in and have signed out and back in. I have read that it takes a long time, but I don't have near the songs that most have. At this rate it will take months to get access to my few songs...................................... Wonder if I should cancel this fiasco and just use space on my ipad and iphone.............................

    Michael -
What's the typical amount of time required to have music added to iTunes to become available in iTunes Match and, subsequently, available on my other iOS devices (iPhone 5S, iPad 4)?  It seems like I'm always waiting at least two days for the music to finally become available on my other devices.
One thing, in addition, that I've noticed is that the music appears to available sooner under the "Artists" or "Album" buttons on my iPhone and iPad, but not under the "Recently Added" smart playlist I have setup in iTunes and, thus, mirrored on my devices.
Any thoughts would be appreciated on both counts.
    Thanks,
    Adam

I have set up iTunes Match on only 3 devices (my Windows 7 desktop and 2 iPhones) and am now trying to authorise my new Windows 8 (Toshiba) laptop but I keep failing to authorise the laptop using my one-and-only Apple ID. Does anyone have advice to solve this problem?!

Hi all.  I can’t tell you how to solve your iCloud 3.x issues.  Heck, I don’t think they’re even solvable.
But if you had a previous version of iCloud that was working correctly then I can definitely tell you how to solve the “iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 7 PC” problem.  …without even a re-boot.
Log out of iCloud 3.0 and uninstall it.
Open My Computer and then open your C:\ drive.  Go to Tools/Folder Options and click on the View tab.  Select the “Show hidden…” radio button and click on OK.
    Open the Users folder.
    Open your user folder
    Open ProgramData (previously hidden folder)
Open the Apple folder – not the Apple Computer folder.
    Open the Installer Cache folder
In Details view sort on Name
Open the folder for the newest entry for iCloud Control Panel 2.x – probably 2.1.2.8 dated 4/25/2013
Right click on iCloud64.msi and select Install.
When finished, the synching between iCloud and your PC will be back to working perfectly as before the 3.0 fiasco.  The pictures will be synched to the same Photostream folder as before the “upgrade”.  Now all you need to do is wait until Apple/Microsoft get this thing fixed and working before you try the 3.x upgrade again.
I think the iCloud 3.0 software was written by the same folks who wrote healthcare.gov with the main difference being that healthcare.gov might eventually be made to work.
For those of you who hate to go backwards, think of it as attacking to the rear.  Which would you rather have, the frustration of no synching or everything working on an older version?
    Good luck…

  • Use one account for apps and other for itunes match

    Hello everybody
My question today is quite simple. I use one account for apps and tv shows, but inwant to use a different itunes account for purchasing itunes match. How can I use them both on my devices? Will it be asking for my user-pass each time i play a song? What other thing should i consider?
    Thank you in advance

I would strongly recommend you not do this.  You will regret it.
I have played with this issue a lot.  You have to remain signed into match in order for it to show up on your phone. If you sign out to purchase an app or redownload one from your appstore id you use then match will be removed from your phone and when you go into your music app the icloud will not be there.  You then have to go sign back out of the store id you used for your app purchase and then sign back into match and everything will have to go though the download to your device process again.  This really is not what you want to do.
Sign up to match with the apple id that you know you will use the most or has the most purchased items and use that for all purchases, i.e. books, apps, movies, and music.  You don't want to go though the other process.
Plus apple will start not letting you sign into match because you signed out and back in, in to short a period of time.
all store purchases on an iphone are linked to the store id.  if you sign out of your match id on the appstore and sign into another account to purchase an app then itunes match will sign out in the music app.  You can't have two store id's signed into your iphone at the same time.  They are all linked together.

  • How can 2 family members who share an iTunes library both use iTunes match?

My wife and I both share an iTunes library on the same Macbook and both sync our phones to that computer. We each have our own Apple ID and we use a 3rd account for iCloud for Photostream. In ios5 we were able to both access the music library on our iPhones via iTunes match while signed in under our unique IDs. Now, it will only let one ID access the music on the phones.  How can I get it to work like it used to, where we can both access the music while both continuing to be logged in under our own IDs on our own phones?

I am taking this slowly so I have not added my iTunes music to the new laptop yet until I figure out how to make it work. But I have just downloaded a digital copy of The Dark Knight and when I log on to my girlfriends user and open iTunes, the video is not there. When I log back into my user and connect her iPhone to iTunes, I am not allowed to drop in the movie. That is where I am at. I need to be able to add my stuff to her iPhone and her stuff to my iPhone without syncing and losing all info.

  • Itunes match has removed my playlists from itunes and my iphone. Not only that, many of the songs 'matched' on itunes do not show up on my iphone. Seriously annoyed, wish I'd never paid for it

Please read the title; itunes match has removed my playlists on itunes and iphone and the songs that are supposedly 'matched' on itunes are not showing up on my iphone.
    Any Really annoyed about this

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.

  • Itunes match  how do you to select multiple songs or do you click each one

In ITunes match  how do you to select multiple songs to download to pc or do you have to click each one.

First make sure you have the current version of iTunes, which is actually 10.5.1.  I had to manually download it from apples website, for some reason, it wouldnt auto-update.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Once that is complete, go to the iTunes store. In the Quick Links secion to the right, you should see iTunes Match. This will prompt you to activate your subscription to iTunes match.  After that it should ask you to add your computer and once youve done that, it should begin the process of scanning your library and adding it to the cloud
Alternatively, once you activate your subscription, you can also go to the Store dropdown menu in iTunes and select Turn On iTunes Match.

  • How do you move an iphone from one mac to a new mac when both are using Itunes Match

I have an Imac (Mountain Lion) with two users sharing an Itunes account (Ver 11).  We each have iphones syncing to the computer (and to icloud separatly). I have just activated Itunes match on the IMac and on both phones.  I just bought a new MacBookPro and have activated Itunes match on it so I am sharing Itunes. Now, I want to move one of the iphones to the new MacBook and have it backing up to that computer instead of the Imac.  How should I proceed with synching the phone with the new computer?  How about the photos on the iphone?  Will they just load into the iphoto library on my new MacBook Pro.
Also, can I still synch the phones manually and move over playlist from Itunes to the phone?  I am assuming that when you turn off itunes match on the phone those playlists will be active.  I want to make sure that say, when I am on a plane or have no wifi or cell, that I can still use the phone as an Ipod.  With Itunes match you are streaming and always need a signal.  There has to be a way to retain the simple music player functionality, right?

There's too much above for me to specifically answer your questions, but I'll assume from the title that you're basically trying to sync to a new computer.  So here are some articles to help you.

  • How can an iTunes Match user prevent songs from being uploaded to the iCloud?

Has anyone who is currently using iTunes Match found a way to prevent selected songs in their music library from being uploaded to the iCloud. I have a number of audio files that are hour long mixes, but aren't quite large enough to run afoul of the 200MB size limit. I'd like to keep using iTunes Match, but would like to prevent it from trying to upload any of these larger files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Another oddity I just discovered is that if I turn on wifi hotspot on my phone and connect my iMac to my phone's 3G service then iTunes on my iMac will stream music just fine from iTunes match (yes, the music was only in the cloud, not on my drive).
I've tried everything I can think of to get iTunes Match to play tracks over cellular.. including totally deauthorizing all my computers and devices, totally removing all tracks my itunes match in the cloud and re-scanning/uploading everything. Purchased new tracks, and they won't play unless they are downloaded. But they will play just fine when previeing them for purchase in iTunes app.

  • How can download all the songs from itunes match to an ipad 2?

I activate itunes match in my Imac, the process of scan and identify the library songs is finished successfully, after that i activate the itunes match in my ipad,  I need download all the songs in the ipad, I select Music Icon and don't appear the (download all) button in the section of songs,  i have to push the cloud button in each song to download?
I enter in the section of albums and playlist and in this section the button download all appears. How can i download all the songs to the device?

I just found the answer by myself.  Instead of clicking Cloud icon one by one, highlight all the songs in Cloud (after sorting by Cloud status) and riight click, download.  Now I am getting all the songs back to my local machine.  I will sync my iOS devices tomorrow and just GET RID OF iTUNES MATCH.  To me, it was a disaster.  Worse than their map app.

  • Can I use iTunes Match for 2 iPhones with different music, same account?

My wife and I each have an iPhone and share an iTunes account.  We share a master music library but each manually manage our music on our iPhones.  So she has certain songs on her phone and I have different ones on mine, both coming from the same master library.  I'm trying to figure out if I can use iTunes Match in this scenario.  I don't want to see her songs on my iPhone.  Is there a way to only see music on my iPhone if I use Match or am I stuck seeing my entire library on my iPhone?

I think I'm getting it finally, thanks for the clarification.  So at least I know there is a way to not see all music in my library from my iPhone.
So in my case i have about 800 songs on my iPhone out of about 1600 on my iTunes library.  If I'm understanding correctly I would have to enable Match on my iPhone, then turn off the "show all music" option.  This in turn should leave me with my original 800 songs listed which I woud then have to download from the cloud.  Once I have all of my 800 songs back down from the cloud I won't be required to download them again from that phone.
A worse scenario would be that I enable Match, and then have to find my 800 songs out of the total 1600 manually from the list and then download them from the cloud.
    Which scenario is correct?

  • ITunes Match Unable To Get Past "Waiting for Apple to deliver your iTunes Match results..."

Been trying for days but it just gets to "Waiting for Apple to deliver your iTunes Match results..." and then stops and allows me to press the Start button again to start the match process.  Sometimes I get error -3231.
I've called Apple and they want $19 to solve the issue even though I paid the $25 for Match.
I've turned iTunes Match off.  Turned Genius off.  Logged out of my iTunes account.  Quit iTunes.  Restarted. Logged back into iTunes account.  Turn Genius on.  Turn iTunes Match back on and let it go through the process again with no success.
My library has a couple hundred songs less than the 25,000 max but it is pretty large.  Had the same issue when I tried with a smaller library some time ago.  I've created a new library and have the same issue.

    Hi,
You should consider rebooting your internet router
Then try holding option key whilst turning off match. Close iTunes and then reopen. Turn on iTunes Match and select add this computer.

  • I recently sold my Mac Air to a friend, he wants to use iTunes Match, but it says he can't for another 40  days because it was attached to my account.  How can I get that turned off so that he can use his account and turn on iTunes match.

I reecntly spold my mac book air,to a friend, when he tries to use itunes match it says the computer is registersed to another user and cannot be done for another 40+ days.  How do i get that to turn off.  I have unregistered it under my account.
    thanks s

You either have an incredibly complex computer setup or I think you are confusing terminology here.  If you have iTunes set to share your library with others in your iTunes preferences then other computers in the area will see it as an item when they are running their iTunes and have it set to check for shared libraries.  Your husband is probably seeing this when running iTunes on his computer.  You can disable this sharing on your computer and/or he can set his not to pick up shared libraries.
By the way, an iTunes account is something you log into when you want to buy something from Apple.  On your computer it is simply your iTunes collection or your iTunes application.  So you need to turn off sharing in your iTunes application preferences.
Your husband is seeing "his" iTunes collection when running iTunes, but it is possible he doesn't have anything in it if it is a brand new computer.

  • One account for itunes match and one for all the rest?

    Hello everybody
I was wondering how to use an Apple ID for iTunes Match and other for iCloud and backups. I found an article on the website that said that you actually can do that, but my question arises when I find out that now I only use one ID, all my apps are in there, along with my iPhone backups and stuff. So, if I create an ID for subscribing to iTM, will I lose the ability to update my apps on the old ID?
    Please help!
    The article is: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895
    Cheers

I know, but I can't use my credit card on my iTunes Store account, since it's a US ID. What if I change the country of my ID? How often can I change it? I was thinking of changing it, purchasing iTM, and then changing it back... can I do that?
    Thank you

  • One account for apps, one for iTunes Match. Work well?

Who out there buys iPhone apps on one account, and is subscribed to iTunes Match on another account?
Constant authentication when swapping from buying apps to listening to music, or not?

Actually, no, it doesn't require re-authentication of the computer every time. The problem arises with iTM enabled, whenf you log out of that account and into another then you are locked out of the original account for 90 days. So, no, this method will not work well.
Just out of curiosity why do you do it this way? It seems very cumbersome to me.
