ITunes Match - Hundreds of Playlists

Hi,
My wife created on her iPhone 1 playlist. Now we have several hundred playlists on all clients with the same name. I cannot delete them alltogether and my iTunes on my iMac is nearly crashing. How can I delete all these playlists with on 1 click? Otherwise I have to deactivate iTunes Match to be able to work as all clients get stuck when navigating to the playlist.....
Thks a million for a possible workaround!!!!!

Hi, don't know if you're still dealing with your multiple empty playlist issue but if you are......  Try going to Automator, select workflow and then search for "remove empty playlists".  Double click it from the dropdown menu and then click run.  As you may ( or may not ) have found out by now it's not the getting rid of the playlists as much as it is keeping them from coming back.  Good luck.  If I find a foolproof method I'll let you know.

  • After re-signing in to iTunes Match hundreds of on-the-go playlists appeared.

For some reason when I turned on my Windows Vista machine last week iTunes asked me to sign-out of the iTunes store and re-sign in.  Once I did this iTunes Match was not enabled so I re-authorized the computer and iTunes Match began analyzing my library as it usually does.  I left it then came back to hundreds empty on-the-go playlists in my playlists window.  Is this a bug or did one of my iDevices mistakenly make all these playlists (I have a iPad 2 and iPhone 4 that all sync with Match) Is there any way to delete all these empty on-the-go playlists en masse?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    John

    Hey John-
I'm having the same problem with my iPad 2/Mac Mini setup.  The only way I know of to delete all of them en masse is by using something called Automator on the Mac.  The only way that I can think of on Windows would involve deleting the library files (not the media files), and rebuilding.  This would mean that you'd have to re-sync your iPad and iPhone, though.
You're definitely not alone with this issue, though.  Some bugs definitely need to be worked out with iTunes Match.

  • How do I get iTunes Match to update playlists I change content on with my PC?

Help! I cannot get iTunes to update one of my playlists (I use iTunes Match). I tried turning Match off to manually sync, but the option to sync did not become available. And after one of the syncs, even with Match back on, now I have lost ALL of my playlists on my iPhone and most of the songs in my library. It looks like all that has synced are purchases I made through the iTunes store. I am teaching Zumba in 1 hour and I need my playlist and songs!

Thanks, Michael. I'm not sure what network you were referring to. I had my iPhone connected via USB directly to my PC. I am on Cable for internet access and have Verizon as my cellular carrier. I don't know where I would enable "use cellular network"?
ITM has updated my playlists in the past, usually within minutes of changing them. But this time, hours went by and no update. I finally manged, by rebooting iTunes after turning off ITM in both iTunes and on my phone, to get the option to sync manually to come up. So for now, I have ITM turned off, but I don't know what will happen if I turn it back on. I would like to have the listing of all my songs on my phone again for downloading as desired from my Library. But I need my playlists for teaching, so I can't afford to have them vaporize again!
Not sure I feel ITM was worth paying for with this aggravation.

  • After turning on iTunes Match, songs in playlist are in the wrong order across all devices.

So in iTunes, my client had several playslists, all with songs in a specific manual order.  None of them are smart playlists.
After iTunes Match was activated, the song order seems to have changed in every playlist and on one iPhone where the same iTunes Match account was also enabled on.
We know they are in a different order as an iPod touch that does NOT have iTunes Match enabled yet still has the original order.
Just wondering what the best way to fix this would be.  Should we manually drag the songs to the right order or is there a simpler way to revert to how they were ? Also would manually moving the update the order across all iTunes Match devices ?

This worked although it was very clumsy (we had almost 3,000 files that had to be deleted and redownloaded. I could not figure out a way to sort all of the 'exclamation points' together so it took an hour or so to scan through the entire library list and delete each file individually and/or in small groups.) The download was very straight forward. In my experience (with iTunes match turned on,) we did NOT loose our playcounts.
Going through all those files I noticed several common themes that may have triggered the problem: 1) multiple artists, 2) special characters in the song title, artist and/or album name - particularly umlauts (we have quite a few german songs in our library.) 3) very long title, artist and/or album names.
I hope that someone from Apple is aware of these issues and working on them....

  • ITunes Match & Keeping Separate Playlists Across Devices

I use iTunes Match on my iMac and my wife's iPad. I don't want her radio stations or playlists deleting mine and vice versa. How do I fix this short of turning off iTunes match and manually putting songs on her iPad?

Bummer. I'll just have to sync her music manually on our iMac and she'll have to deal with listening to ads on iTunes Radio.
Thanks for the reply. Shame that this is still impossible to do. You'd think they could make playlists and radio channel favorites independant. It also makes it painful when she wants to buy stuff for our baby to listen to as I'll have to buy it with my account and then sync up her device(s).

  • HT204406 iTunes Match syncing updated playlist

When I update songs in a playlist, the iTunes Match does not apply the changes.  I thought that was one of the perks for subscribing to iTunes Match.  Should I be doing something to help this along?

Have you found a solution? I have the exact same problem. It used to work fine though. I'm not sure if the issue is caused by iOS 6 or what but it worked for me when i did it over the summer. I tried again this week, I created a playlist on my iPad with 50 songs then the playlist title appears on my iMac but it's empty.

I Have many playlists organized into folders. ITunes Match syncs them over between an iMac and MBA, but won't organize lists into folders on the iOS devices.  Folders appear there, but only one list, seemingly random, will appear in the folder.  Anyone having this issue?

  • ITunes match creates YOG playlists. What is this?

I have thousands of Yog playlists populating automatically. I have no idea where they come from. Would love any thoughts or feedback.
    Thank you.

Sorry but I'm a newbie using this community and when I search for "Yog" I only see your post. I am not seeing other results for this issue. If you could refer me to some links that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why are playlists made in iTunes not pushing to my iPhone, even though I have iTunes Match?

I have made a couple both Smart and regular playlists on iTunes. Then I clicked Store > Update iTunes Match.  It updated and yet the playlists are not on my phone... I shouldn't have to sync my phone should I?

A solution I've mentioned in other threads for iTunes Match not syncing playlists to iPhone is to log out of your iTunes Account (Apple ID) in the iTunes & App Store page of Settings, turn phone off, then on, then log in again. This has solved problems for a number of people.  Cheers.

  • Itunes match playlists empty

I ran update itunes match, and all of the songs in my playlists were deleted.  The main library is untouched.  none of my itunes backups are restoring the playlists, and copying and re-naming the old .itl files isn't working either.  is there any way to revert itunes match back a few weeks or any other methods?

I have the same problem, anything can be done here?
I can restore everything back, i have backup BUT once i enable iTunes Match again, all playlists will have no songs in them in the main library all songs there just empty custom playlists

  • Lots of problems with iTunes Match

I signed up for iTunes match a few days ago.  I have a large library on my iMac with hundreds of playlists created.  The matching process completed. I switched it on on my iphone, and it loaded, except for the playlists. I get the endlessly spinning wheel.  I reset the phone, restarted the computer, reloaded iTunes, and nothing has helped.  So I switched off iTunes Match on the phone and emptied the music storage.  My whole iTunes Match library (minus playlists) remained on my phone. I then turned off iTunes Match on the computer, which did revert the iTunes library to normal.  But when I attached my iphone to sync, I got a "Step 1 out of 7 waiting to sync" message that wouldn't stop or proceed.  After restarting my computer again, now I cannot even keep iTunes running without freezing up within the first 20 seconds or so.
I'm at my wit's end.  All I want now is to return to normal syncing without iTunes Match.  I don't even care about the $25.  I consider that a lesson well learned.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks!

Lots of people are currently having this problem.
You may want to check out this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6355061?tstart=0
Seems like a service issue on Apples part. The problem seems to be is that either Apple doesn't know or doesn't acknowledge the problem yet.
Lots of us in the other thread are contacting tech support or the product feedback page here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
The more that contact tech support or feedback the more likely they are to look into it.

  • ITunes Match removes content that you paid for

iTunes Match will DESTROY playlists, your library and will in fact remove content from your library; this content can mean items that you burned into iTunes AND items that you purchased from iTunes (and have receipts for)
Here is an except from their terms and conditions:
iTunes Match is provided on an “AS IS” basis and may contain errors or inaccuracies that could cause failures, corruption or loss of data and/or information, including music, playlist, and play history, from your computer or device and from peripherals (including, without limitation, servers and other computers) connected thereto. You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match. You expressly acknowledge and agree that all use of iTunes Match is at your sole risk. To the extent permitted by law, Apple shall have no liability with respect to your use of iTunes Match, including the inability to access matched or uploaded content.
What is so disturbing is, that depending upon WHICH customer service agent you get, you may or may not get your files replaced!  DO NOT USE iTunes MATCH or GENIUS if you have a large library.  My library is 34,000+ songs (mostly purchased from Apple) 119 Music Videos (all Purchased from Apple) 504 Movies & 2200+ Television Episodes (movies and TV shows ALL purchased from Apple)....  iTunes Matched reeked havoc with my music playlists, it or Genius caused so many duplicates in my Movies and TV shows it was crazy and Apple's customer service has fallen off tremendously in the last couple of years.  My problem with Apple iTunes Match goes back to the beginning of iTunes Match, and I spent 4 years asking via email if iTunes Match was the culprit.  FINALLY I got a tech that was honest and admitted that they were aware of the problem.
The problem exists because Apple's iTunes library (the store having a MARVELOUS selection of Classical Material) is ill equipped to deal with Classical Music Albums without splitting them into numerous albums and confusing "songs" that have the same name.  It also happened with some of my Rock Collection when the files/songs shared the same name, it would assume it was a duplicate and remove one, effectively gutting an album that I had paid for.
So the question is why doesn't Apple see fit to at least restore the music that was legitimately purchased from the iTunes Music store that it's iTunes Match system has removed?  "At your own risk" should at least mean that the iTunes Reps are honest and knowledgeable concerning the issue.  "As is" is one thing, and "Good Faith" is another!  If you can't answer this question, please bring back the customer service we had when Steve Jobs was alive.  (I've been with you guys since 1988!!!!)

Oh goodness, I thought if I shared my situation that someone, even a Apple rep might say, "Hey I have a solution for you!"
The poster answered your question. Apple does not participate in the forum, and as users we wouldn't know why Apple does what it does. And, it is a violation of the TOS of the forum to speculate about Apple policy.
In response to the second post, you are not going to get an Apple rep here, since they do not participate in the forum. Unfortunately, no one here would be able to help you with your problem, since we are users, and do not have access to the iTunes Match system. You will have to deal with them on the situation. And yes, I did read that you have been dealing with them for 4 years, but again, that is not anything we can change. Good luck.

  • ICloud Drive vs iTunes Match questions

So I have been looking into different ways of having my music accessible throughout all of my OS devices. From what I have seen, I can either purchase a subscription to iTunes Match, or I can just purchase additional iCloud storage. Now just for the sake of my music, I would need to purchase a 200 GB plan, costing me about $50 a year, therefore the iTunes Match subscription would be the cheaper alternative at $24.99 a year. However I do have a couple of questions regarding both options.
Ideally, what I would like to do, is to be able to open iTunes on either my MacBook Air or my iMac, or the Music app on my iPhone or iPad, and be able to access and play any song in my entire collection. Also, syncing of playlists throughout my devices is something I desire greatly.
Now that OS X Yosemite is out (all my devices are either running OS X Yosemite or iOS 8), I understand that file sharing is made much easier. So this led me to think that maybe I should purchase additional storage and store my music in the iCloud Drive. But here is where I start needing some clarity. Suppose I open iTunes or the Music app on a device. Will my entire collection be visible through the app(s), or would I have to access iCloud Drive and play the files from there? Also, assuming that my entire collection can be seen via the app(s), will any playlists that I create be synced? Also concerning the iPhone, if I choose to play a song, will it get downloaded from the Drive onto the device, taking up internal storage, or will it get streamed? Is there, perhaps, a way to have these app(s) continuously sync their libraries with a specific "Music" folder on iCloud Drive (with playlists being synced)?
From what I understand from iTunes Match, all of my songs that are matched with songs from the iTunes Store will immediately be made available to me in my iTunes Library for playing. Now the songs that do not get matched: do they get uploaded to the storage that is provided by iTunes Match (25,000 songs), or do they get uploaded to my iCloud Drive? Are the songs that matched included in this 25,000 song limit, or does it only count the songs that didn't match? Will iTunes Match sync my playlists across all devices, regardless of which device the playlist was created on? Also, on the iPhone, same question as before, will songs be streamed from the storage that iTunes Match provides or will they have to be downloaded to play?
Based on how I want to be able to access and play my music, I'm inclined to think that maybe iTunes Match is the better (and cheaper) alternative? If simply using the iCloud Drive is good enough, then I wouldn't mind paying the extra amount for storage because I'm sure I'll be taking advantage of file sharing even outside of music. iTunes Match also has the ad-free iTunes Radio which might be cool too.
I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about this or if you have any better methods of keeping all music files organized and synced across all devices, then I'm all ears.
P.S this is my first post so sorry if it's lengthy.

ITunes match does not use iCloud Drive to store music. if you want to share music with all your devices, you should purchase iTunes Match. ICloud Drive provides storage for other non music data and you have 5gb free - you can purchase more if required.

  • ITunes Match - Metadata - Best Solution?

Having completed library matching and corrected basic issues (such as missing Artwork: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3650114) is there a neat way of completing the remaining Song metadata, such as Song bpm?
There are several 3rd Party services such as:
    1. TuneUp ( www.tuneupmedia.com );
    2. BeaTunes ( www.beatunes.com ); and
    3. Rinse ( www.rinsemymusic.com ).
Is there a preferred route?  Will the metadata updates that result be managed correctly in iTunes Match?

While I have read postings stating individuals have had trouble with metadata in general, as far as my own experience, if iTunes has a field for it and data is entered properly into that field, iTunes Match copies all of the metadata.
The real question as you pointed out, is how well does iTunes Match use that metadata if it's used to create smart playlists.   From what I have read, the overall experience has been mixed.  From my own experience, while smart playlists work fine on computers using metadata they could only be getting via iTunes match, those same playlists either are empty on IOS devices, or are populated in a manner that clearly shows the metadata isn't being read properly.
    Here are examples
    (1) A smart playlist based on text I had entered in the comments field displays fine on the computer it was set up on, as well as computer #2.  In both cases the playlist is reading the iTunes Match database, so songs that are local are mixed with songs available only in the cloud.
This smart playlist is displaying properly on my Apple TV, which perhaps not coincidentally, is the only iOS device that supports streaming.
However presently, this playlist is empty on the iPhone and iPad.
    (2) a smart playlist based on BPM over 60 displays on both computers and as with (1), it is clearly reading iCloud.  This playlist has not appeared on Apple TV as yet, so I don't know if it will behave identically to (1).  However it, too, is empty on the iPhone and iPad.
    (3) a smart playlist based on play count, set to show only 25 tracks displays properly on both computers and clearly is reading playcounts specific to each one.  Display of this playlist on iOS Devices has no logic to it that I can determine.
Each IOS device does have what appear to be tracks that have been played on one device or another recently, but the list is over 1,000 songs.  Setting the music app to display only music on the device will get the track count lower, but that seems simply to be based on how many songs are locally stored.  The 25 track limit certainly isn't being honored here.
This issue has been documented by at least one other person who has posted to the board.
My guess is that at this time, play counts unique to each device are not being handled properly, that some sort of aggragate attempt is being made. That there are tracks displayed all all is encouraging though.  Some sort of functionality for playlists based on play count clearly is there, just not working properly on iOS devices.
Based on my limited testing, Apple has built in support for playlists based on metadata that iTunes has fields for, but iOS is not currently capable of handling it properly.  My guess it that it will at some point (people do use playlists extensively - for Apple to basically kill the functionality for people who "upgraded" by purchasing iTunes Match doesn't make much sense).  However if a person were needing full functionality now in order to make a purchasing decision on a metadata "enhancement" app, well Match doesn't seem to be there yet

  • A Way to Tell Which rules (filter types) are supported by iTunes Match

There are tons of posts about issues with iTunes Match smart playlists not working as expected. I am facing these issues myself--hearing the same song several days in a row even when the playlist rule says to exclude if played within 60 days.
Anyway, I think I found a way to tell which rules Apple is intending to support. Device will output to its console the unsupported rule. One way to view the console is with iPhone Configuration Utility.
    1. Install iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU) - https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/
    2. Attach your iTunes Match enabled iOS device.
    3. In iPCU, select the device (under DEVICES), then pick the 'Console' tab on top.
    4. Change any smart playlist in iTunes. This seems to cause it to sync the change to iCloud immediately.
In my case I was seeing this:
    Oct  2 14:18:03 Kris-iPhone-4S itunescloudd[6392] <Warning>: unhandled match type: unfilterable type kITDBTrackField_CloudStatus (134)
    Oct  2 14:18:03 Kris-iPhone-4S itunescloudd[6392] <Warning>: unhandled match type: unfilterable type kITDBTrackField_CloudStatus (134)

I had two Smart Playlists using 'iCloudStatus is' rule. When I deleted one of them I got
    Oct  2 14:19:51 Kris-iPhone-4S itunescloudd[6402] <Warning>: unhandled match type: unfilterable type kITDBTrackField_CloudStatus (134)
    Oct  2 14:19:51 Kris-iPhone-4S itunescloudd[6402] <Warning>: unhandled match type: unfilterable type kITDBTrackField_CloudStatus (134)
When I deleted the other, I didn't have any entries like this.
(I am guessing that they are removed in pairs because I have two devices with iTunes Match? Or there is one playlist on the device and one in the cloud? Not sure, but anyway...)
Despite this find, there are still problems. I am having issues even with playlists that didn't have this rule, so I'm not surprised.
It seems to ignore these rules (that I care about):
    - Is Checked (completely ignores)
    - Last Played - not in the last - X (seems to sometimes work...I am hearing the same songs every day
Also after a few songs, it seems to get stuck on one song as if Repeat 1 is being used, but it's not...several times a day.

When I wrote this I was hoping there were only a few issues with iTunes Match, iOS 6, and Smart Playlists. I was still trying to troubleshoot them and hoped to live with the limitations.
However, the problems are very fundamental. Basic stuff like using Last played and random as criteria are just not working. iTunes and iPhone playlists don't match at all, which is odd if all the logic is in the cloud.
I filed 4 bugs about 3 weeks ago and none have been updated.
Today I contacted Apple Support and after a few minutes wait, the rep acknowledged that iTunes Smart Playlists aren't really working as expected today and there is no estimated date when it will work. She was not sure if this was a new problem for iOS 6.
We agreed that the best thing might be to request a refund. Here's how:
    http://expresslane.apple.com
iTunes>iTunesStore>Purchases,Billing, andRedeption>"The topic is not listed", etc...
I also mentioned that this page is misleading:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
Will my playlists sync across devices?
Yes. When you create, edit, or delete a playlist on your Mac, PC, iPhone, or iPad, those changes will sync across any iTunes Match-enabled device you own.
My guess is that when the new version (major update) of iTunes is released, this stuff will be changed and supported again. The number of people using Smart Playlist on iTunes Match must not be important enough.
