ITunes match on new mac book pro
I just bought my new MBP 13" with Ret. I have roughly 14000 songs on an external drive. i have an itunes match subscription. can i just import my entire collection to itunes then turn on match and all my songs will be available on all my devices? Is that the best way to "match" all my songs?

Do as you should always do when getting a new computer, copy everything from the old one to the new one. -
Hi I have a new mac book pro. I am swopping over from an imac. An authorize this computer message has come up for an old itunes account. I have no idea what the password is. Is there a way to find out or transfer to my new account?
Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though. -
Because of a lack of enough memory on my old Mac Book, I put all my music on an external hard drive. Now that I have a new Mac Book Pro with lots of memory, I want to move the music onto this new computer but I haven't been able to yet. I tried the migration assistant but that didn't work. Any suggestions?
I may sound like a real rookie here, but on my new MacBook Air there isn't a "Pictures" folder under "Users/kendallwilson" like there used to be on my old MacBook Pro (Early 2011). I had an 8GB 1st gen iPod in it's original box in storage and just took it out to hook it up. Charged it overnight, plugged it into new Mac Book Pro and it was recognized as being an iPod in recovery but other identifying information was all indicated as "n/a" (so, unknown OS, etc). Error code 1604 came up so I downloaded iTunes on the Mac Book and it is currently showing version 10. But now when I try to restore the iPod, error code 1611 comes up and the troubleshooting doesn't tell me what else to try. The USB connector that came with the iPod was also never used before - brand new also from the box so that should be fine. I also tried a different USB port on the Mac Book. Any ideas?

The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD." -
Trouble sharing Music and Photos on new Mac Book Pro
I am loving my new Mac Book Pro. Front Row seems quite promising, but I'm having problems with shared music and photos.
I have an airport network in my home and have most of my music and photos stored on my desktop (Dual G4). When I open iTunes on my new MBP the shared music works just fine. Similarly, iPhotos shows the shared photos from my desktop on my MBP.
But, when I try using Front Row, I get an error message saying that there is no shared content. I found a work around that seems to work most (but not all) of the time. If I open iTunes first, start playing a song (shared from the desktop) and then switch over to Front Row it shows that song as now playing and then the rest of the shared music is available.
I have used Software Update to download the latest version of all software on both computers and for my airport network.
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

If you haven't already please update to 10.4.8. If issue persists then try the following:
Remove the following files to the trash (do not empty until you test for function):
~/library/caches
~/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
~/library/prefernces/com.apple.iphoto.plist
~/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist

- Restart your computer again
- Test and see how its working

When you plug your iPhone to Mac,click the Summary button and select “Manually manage music and videos".Then iTunes would never delete your original music.

You cannot. Copy everything you want form the old computer to the new one, then sync it.
it basically says you have to erase your iphone to sync to a new itunes!
Correct Iphone will sync, or manually manage, with one and only one computer/library at a time. Syncing, or manually managing, to another will indeed erase the current content.
