ITunes Match problem with Mastered for iTunes tracks

My question is, has anyone solved the problem I'm describing here?
My wife bought an album (David Bowie, The Next Day, it's great), as a Mastered for iTunes album, under her Apple ID. I copied the album to my computer using Home Sharing. My computer is authorized with both of our Apple IDs.
I have iTunes Match activated on my Apple ID. This album uploaded - didn't match - to iTunes. I assume that this is because Apple is trying to keep people from getting the Mastered for iTunes version of things and refuses to match that version if it's not already associated with the Apple ID. This seems silly, but so be it.
Now I try to listen on an iOS device and see more strange behavior:
- The uploaded tracks stream fine, but
- They will not download. No matter what network I'm on, no matter the time of day, there's always an error in downloading them.
I'd be interested to know if anyone has any insight into what's going on; how to get around it; or just if you've seen the same.

So I infer that - to keep the "no free upgrades to Mastered for iTunes" policy with the technical limitation that iTunes cannot perfectly match to the same master - it has a policy not to match to Mastered for iTunes unless the track was purchased with the right Apple ID. This seems like a silly but obvious solution to those two constraints. No?
No, there is no such policy. I know this because I was recently able to get Eric Clapton's new album Old Sock matched to the Mastered for iTunes version. All the downloaded tracks have the logo on them. Same goes for the matched AC/DC tracks I have downoaded. All are Mastered for iTunes. These are my rips from CD which were matched.
This is completely different from if someone has an album that was previously bought from the iTunes Store, such as Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which then gets re-released in a remastered version (Mastered for ITunes). Of course we don't get a free upgrade to that version. We have to buy it if we want it. It is just as if you bought the album on CD, then a remastered version is released. You have to buy the CD again.
As you are talking about an iTunes Store purchase, of course you can't re-rip it, since it was never ripped from CD in the first place. But you might want to read the iTS TOS which can be read here: http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html
But, to get back to the original question, this does seem to be an issue with this particular album for whatever reason.

  • ITunes Match problems with new PC

I have around 25,000 songs that were mostly matched, some uploaded, when I first signed up for iCloud on my previous laptop (64 bit Windows 7 Pro). My iTunes library resided on an external USB drive and iCloud/iTunes Match was mostly working, though I still had some problems with duplicate songs that I had hoped iTunes Match would be smart enough to help me eliminate (it's not). Duplicates came mostly from several earlier attempts to move and clean up my iTunes library, but that's another story...
Anyway, I got a new laptop (previous one died, hard disk failed), on which I installed iTunes, which I set up with the same external hard drive holding the iTunes library. So the music files were the same. Had to import all the songs from the hard drive which was set up to hold my iTunes Library. The trouble is, iTunes Match apparently thinks I am trying to add 25,000 more songs, when in fact they are the same songs as before. How can I tell it this? When I run iTunes match it says I already have the maximum 25,000 songs, and all the songs in iTunes show up as an error. I can't delete them from iCloud because I can't see them in iTunes! The other laptop is gone. There is apparently no independent way to access iCloud-based music except through iTunes.
I just realized that this is probably the problem: since the previous laptop hard drive died, whatever secret info Apple stores to identify it as authorized for my iTunes account was lost, and I had no chance to deauthorize it. So it thinks I am trying to match a new set of 25,000 songs (though these are almost all the same songs as before, so I would think iTunes Match could figure this out, but I guess not). I decided to deauthorize all 5 PC's on my account - but I can't do this until March 13, 2013, because I apparently did this last March, no doubt to solve another iTunes problem (seems to happen at least once a year that something in iTunes gets screwed up).
I sent Apple a request to deauthorize the dead PC (or all of them if they will), but does anyone have any alternate suggestions? I would like to be able to remove non-needed and/or duplicate songs from iCloud, and apparently the only way to do this is to delete them from iTunes (locally), in which case you are supposed to get a prompt to remove from iCloud or not. But all my songs are flagged as "error" in the iCloud status column, so I have no way to see or modify what's out there, since the associated PC is dead.
I also have most of these ~25K songs on Google Music and in Amazon Cloud. So I'm considering just dumping iCloud and using iTunes locally only (though I'm afraid if I do that it will delete all my local iTunes songs - guess I would have to reinstall from a backup in that case). When iTunes Match works, it's very nice and automatic and convenient since I listen to music on iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad (yes, I drank Steve's Kool-ade). But as with many things Apple, when it DOESN'T work, it makes you want to slit your wrists. LOL (not).
    Thanks,for any advice.

Thanks bmw249. I have good news and bad news. Good news: Apple very quickly deauthorized my computers so I was able to drop the lost computer that was taking up a slot and (I suspected) confusing iTunes Match.
The bad news is that this didn't make any difference. Nearly all the songs in my iTunes library have an iCloud status of "error" and when I turn on iTunes Match, it churns for a while before telling me that I already have 25,000 songs in the cloud and can't add any more. What I expected is for it to recognize that most of the 25K songs are the very same ones sitting in this local iTunes library. It should be substantially fewer than 25K because I also deleted 1000+ classical music pieces that I have sitting in Amazon Cloud, in hopes of freeing up space for my recently purchased and created music to be uploaded to iCloud. But no dice.
I am now downloading ~800 songs that iTunes thinks I have only on iCloud. I then plan to figure out how to deactivate iCloud and iTunes Match on this PC so that nothing will be deleted locally when I cancel my iCloud account (it runs out in March 2013 but I assume I can cancel and deactivate the account sooner). The "convenience" of this service isn't worth the many dozens of hours of hours I have spent trying to get it to work the way Apple says it works. Amazon Cloud (also costing ~$25 a year) has a limit of something like 20 GB and no specific limit on number of songs. I buy most music there anyway and have already uploaded most of the rest, so this makes the most sense. I really like the way iTunes Match can (in theory) keep all my music sync'd and smoothly stream to my iPhone even over 3G. Amazon Cloud takes a bit more effort but does much the same thing.
Thanks for listening. I'm assuming this is a "moderated" forum and that this post will soon be removed for my Amazon comments.

  • ITunes Match problem with accessing all my songs on all my IOS devises

Why are some of my iTunes purchased songs not able to be synced with iTunes match? I can access the songs on my iMac but not on my iPhone. I'm not happy about this and I'm thinking I made a terrible mistake buying iTunes Match

Cause you data got corrupted during either upload, matching process or download. Most likely first two, since you already tried to download to ipad as well.  Decision to use or not use match is up to you.

  • ITunes match- Problems with editing tags

    Need some Help.
I have changed the tags on some of my albums either before or after updating on iTunes match
For example I have the Paul Simon anthology on which one song has the artist Simon and Garfunkel so changed it just to Paul Simon. Unfortunately after doing this it has created two duplicate artists / albums one listed in the alphabetical list under 'S' and one under 'P' ???
Another example is a compilation country cd (Yes I do occassionaly listen to country!!)  changed all artists to ' Various country artists' rather than have my artist list cluttered.  It has now appeared as 'Various country artists' under 'F' in the artist alphabetical list. Only one entry this time though.
I am making sure all the edit boxes ie artist / album are ticked and hit iTunes update after the changes.
Where am I going wrong. Intend to put a whole load of compilation cd's on in the future and need to sort this before I do.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Bryan

    This may help you out.
I handle complication CDs by entering the actual artist name for the track in the Artist field. Then I enter Various Artists in the Album Artist field. I also uncheck the "compilation" tag in the options for the album. This will then display the album under V in my alphabetical listing by artist. So the Album Artist tag is what is important.
I'll try not to make any judgements about your occational country music fixation.

I have a strange problem with iTunes Match on Apple TV (the Latest Apple TV)
My ipad lists all of my iTunes Match songs, about 10000 or so songs, where as my Apple TV only lists 50 songs.
I have rebooted Apple TV numerous times.
I have upgraded Apple TV and fiddled with Apple tv settings.
My Apple TV can find all music when my Mac and iTunes is turned on, but can only find 50 songs through iTunes match.
    My ipad is on ios6.
Please help me fix this Apple TV problem.

  • NO PHONE TAB IN ITUNES PREFS problem with V3i and iTunes

Hey everyone. Just got a V3i and it won't mount in iTunes. It mounts on my desktop, and iSync, but not in iTunes. In iTunes Preferences I don't see the Phone tab. There's iPod, Parental, Music Store, Sharing,Advanced and all that but no Phone Tab. I've tried formatting the card several times, reset the phone, repaired permissions, and changed the cable. Nothing has worked. I just find it strange that iTunes Prefs does not show the Phone Tab to make edits. I have the Phone driver kext and the latest iTunes 6.0.5 also installed. Anyone with this problem solved please help. Thanx.

  • Mastered for itunes issues with iTunes match

I am rather confused over the itunes match and mastered for itunes programs overlap each other.
First of all I imported "coldplay mylo xyloto" album and when re-downloaded from itunes match it did not download the mastered for itunes versions of the songs.
Then i just imported "Bloc Party - Four" and when I re-downloaded these songs from itunes match it downloaded all the songs with the Mastered for iTunes logo.
So do I get my other imported songs from itunes match to download the mastered for itunes versions as it appears for some albums it does and for others it doesn't?

That all depends on the mastering of the Album and what is available in the iTunes Store. There's not anything you can do to affect the results one way or the other.
I don't know this for sure, but I would hazard a guess that when the Coldplay album was released in 2011 it was first released on the iTunes Store in a non-mastered for iTunes version, then later released in the mastered for itunes version. So the two are just different enough, from a mastering perspective that your CD rip does not get matched to the iTunes Master version.

So, in iTunes, when you look at the shuffle's content (in the sidebar) and click on the playlist under the shuffle, over to the right, the songs are in your desired order, correct?  Where do you look, or what do you do, that indicates the playlists are in alphabetical order?  Are you saying that when you play the songs while using the shuffle, they play in alphabetical order?
If so, when you listen to the songs on the shuffle, are you using the playlist, or are you using the All Songs list? If you are in the default All Songs list, with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order (the middle position), the songs play alphabetically, I believe.
The 3rd gen shuffle uses VoiceOver.  If you are in the All Songs list, you need to use VoiceOver to switch to the playlist (see manual linked below for details).  When you are in the playlist (with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order), then the songs should play in playlist order.
There are more details in the manual for the 3rd gen shuffle, which is online here
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_3rdGen_UG.pdf
See page 22 for the section about setting up and using VoiceOver.  The part about switching playlists starts on page 23 (Using the Playlist Menu).

  • Can't download music - seems to be an iTunes Match problem

I have iTunes Match activated, which is working fine on my iPad and iPhone.  However I cannot download purchased music onto the iMac.
In my household there is a shared iMac and each user has a different login & password.  Only I know my login password.  I have been using iTunes successfully on it for years, and have been using iTunes successfully for about 6 months now.  Auto-download has been disabled for several months now because I don't want everything downloaded automatically.  All has been fine until about a fortnight ago when the iMac stopped downloading newly purchased music whenever I clicked the little iCloud icon.  This is for music that I have successfully purchased and downloaded on my iPhone whilst at work, and now want to listen to at home.  Whenever I click the iCloud icon to download the new song I get an error message telling me that the computer is already associated with an Apple ID, and I have to wait 54 days etc to sign in with a new Apple ID.  However I'm certain no other Apple ID has been used with my account - when I go to the Store menu it is showing my current and correct Apple ID.
The most telling proof that my Apple ID is correct on both iMac and iPhone (and iPad as well) is that when I plug the iPhone into the iMac, the new music syncs across EXACTLY as it should - and it can then be played without problems.  Both the phone and the computer are correctly logged in to the same Apple ID, which is the same Apple ID that I use for iTunes Match.  Also when I click Store -> Update iTunes Match there appears to be no Apple ID conflict.
Obviously this is an iTunes Match problem which I cannot resolve, can someone please provide assistance / advice.

  • Need guidance - replace entire iTunes Match library with new library

Been using iTunes as my music manager/player since 2003. Currently have about 5,000 songs which are a mix of selective CD song rips, iTunes purchases and Amazon Mp3 downloads. Lots of missing artwork, incomplete albums, wrong genres, etc. I use iTunes Match to sync across multiple Macs and iOS devices, including 3 Apple TVs. It all works OK, but I recently undertook a major project to re-rip all of my CDs/Box Sets in their entirety – about 20,000 tracks. I performed the new rips on a Mac Mini running Windows 7 in BootCamp using Roxio Creator to get a 'universal' Mp3 (256kbs) format and keep everything separate and apart from my current iTunes/Match libraries. Total library size came out around 80-85GB, saved on an external USB HDD.
Recently had my iMac 1TB HDD replaced under Apple’s recall program and looked at it as an opportunity to totally rebuild my iTunes library from scratch using the new, complete album rips. I’ve loaded the new 80GB library onto the iMac and am currently using TuneUp Media to ‘clean up’ metadata and album artwork on the new library. I've turned off iTunes Match to isolate the iMac during this stage of the process.
When cleanup is complete, I would like to totally replace my current iTunes Match library with the new larger library. I think the songs will sync OK, but I’ve put a lot if effort into cleaning up the album artwork and am afraid that, if I don't take some precautions, iTunes Match will overrule and mess up my new artwork when I activate it.
    My plan is to
From the iMac, first copy (or should I export) the entire rebuilt library to an external drive as a backup, hopefully preserving all of the artwork and metadata corrections in the process (true?).
On my MacBook Pro, copy my current Match library to a different external drive to ensure preservation of any unique tracks I may have missed in building the new library. Then delete the entire library – both local and Cloud. I should then have an empty iTunes Match library, correct?
Then, on my iMac, activate iTunes Match and let it upload/match all the new songs/data to create a new Cloud library with all the new albums, descriptors and artwork.
Do I need to individually deactivate Match and delete local libraries on all my other devices also, or does the total Cloud library delete I perform on my MacBook Pro then transfer to all my other registered iOS and OSX devices that have Match activated?

Thanks bmw249. I have good news and bad news. Good news: Apple very quickly deauthorized my computers so I was able to drop the lost computer that was taking up a slot and (I suspected) confusing iTunes Match.

  • ITunes Match Syncing With Two Out of Three Devices

I use iTunes match on three devices, (1) a windows computer that is about 4 years old, (2) a Mac Book pro that I bought this spring, and (3) an iPhone 5. Before buying the Mac Book pro, the music library was created mostly though the windows computer, although I occasionally bought iTunes content on the iPhone 5. Everthing in the iTunes library -- purchased from iTunes, purchased from Amzaon, purchased from Bandcamp or ripped from CDs -- was available on the phone; everything purchased on the phone was available on the windows computer.
For the first several months of using the Mac Book pro for purchases (mostly outside of iTunes) or for ripping from CDs, all content uploaded through iTunes was accessible on the windows computer and the iPhone. However, sometime recently (I can't pinpoint the day), non-iTunes purchases and CD rips from the Mac Book and uploaded through iTunes Match stopped being accessible on the windows computer. There is no issue with the iPhone. All uploads are immediately accessible on that device.
I have checked all of the iTunes settings on the windows computer. Everthing is enabled. I have turned iTunes match on and off on that device, to no avail. One odd glitch is that "icloud status" is shown perpetually as "waiting" in the library on the windows computer. Again, though, the tracks shown in the library on that computer are only those that were either purchased on that computer, purchased from iTunes on another device, or ripped from CDs on that computer.
So it appears that iTunes match has been "missing" for a couple of months or so the windows computer as respects non-iTunes content purchased on the Mac or ripped from CDs with the Mac.
I am using all of the most recent software updates on the Mac and the iPhone and as respects iTunes. The windows machine uses Windows 7.
Any suggestions as to how to fix this? Thanks,

The iCloud status cleared. Thanks. But the iTunes Match items uploaded from the Mac are still not showing up in the library of the windows computer.  Everything is still enabled, but the synching between the Mac and the iPhone on the one hand and the windows computer on the other hand is still not working. And the match process on the windows computer took a couple of hours to complete, so it seems like something was happening. But just not everything.

  • ITune Match Problem

I subscribed to iTunes match to be able to download and listen to my music from my cd collection. I downloaded the music in iTunes, status says music is available in iCloud. problem is, in iTunes, the icloud icon is not shown by each song as it suppose so I do not think they are downloaded to icloud athough available (that's possible right?). Also, on my iphone, I do not have the option to 'show all songs. If I select to turn on iTune Match, it wants to replace my existing music on my phone. Can anyone help with this? I do  not want to lose my currect music, that's why I paid for iTune Match.

Thx for your reply. Itunes Match was actually off on itunes as I could check with your clue
But when I click on the iphone icon on itunes and select music, there is no option to sync songs and it says "itunes Match is on".

  • Difference between mastered for iTunes and previous versions?

Is there a noticeable difference between Mastered for iTunes albums and any previous versions? I purchased Bon Jovi's "Have A Nice Day (Special Edition)", and now it has been replaced with a Mastered for iTunes version. Is there any value or noticeable difference if I were to purchase the new version?

One of the inexpensive compilation downloads I purchased on iTunes was terrible, I'd much rather listen to the original mix of " I had too much to dream last night" than the remaster, which destroyed the song completely.
Well, there is really no way to improve on the sound of The Electric Prunes coming over an AM transistor radio!
I guess I'm suspicious of iTunes files in general. I am a dying breed, using separate amps and pre-amps and real speakers as well as Ultimate Ear earbuds and a great car system. The cuts that are engineered for iTunes are mixed for lo-fidelity appliances and just don't sound that good.
There are online download stores that cater to a more audiophile crowd.  Check out HD Tracks.

my icloud account on my new iphone does not match the user ID for itunes as it is an old apple ID. There is no password for this ID so I cant change it and it wont let me change the apple ID. Any help?

To change to iCloud ID on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID then sign in with the new ID.  If you don't know the password for the old ID, and if the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
