ITunes match question (manual sync and iTunes library)

Hi all
Just noticed that iTunes match is now avaliable in Denmark, and therefore I have a few questions that I can't seem to find answers for elsewhere.
My situation is that I have all my music on a NAS (and on at USB backup drive). Some of the music is in 128 AAC and is 320 mp3.
On my macbook pro I have all of my music converted til 128 AAC so I can fit all of my music on my iPhone (10000 songs). All my music on my iPhone is manage manually through iTunes. I normally 1) add it to itunes, 2) transfer it to iphone and 3) remove the music again from my iTunes library. I mostly just have an empty iTunes library (since i play music from my iPhone and my Sonos system) and just use iTunes for ripping CDs and editing of tags.
Since my iPhone is running out of space, I thought it would be a good idea to have some of my music i iCloud (iTunes match). From what I've read it is not possible to have both music transfered manually from iTunes to my iPhone and at the same time accessing music from Itunes match? What I really would like is to have 20 GB on my iPhone with the rest avaliable through iTunes match (20 GB) for when I need it. Is this possible?
My second and most important question is about the itunes library. What happens if I connect to iTunes macth and afterwards remove all my music from my itunes library? As I just explained I prefer my itunes library to be empty unless i want to transfer music to my iPhone.
Hope you can help me with some answers?
Thánk You.

That info has not been released yet but to venture a guess, I doubt any extraneous info such as comments will be used.
Also, iTunes Match will not use your tags to identify songs. Some algorithm will analyze the audio file to match.

  • Download vs. Sync and iTunes Match

iTunes Match(ed) my +9,000 song library (~1/4 purchased, the rest ripped from CD's & "acquired from other sources") last night! I've had no problems with it thus far and feel it is superior to whatever Google will try and Spotify offers.
I understand that when I activate iTunes Match on my iOS device, any currently sync'd music will be replaced by the complete iTunes Match(ed) music library, My first thought - great, this will free up plenty of storage space. Then, playing and/or downloading songs and playlists saves them locally on the device. My concern - during previous syncing with my PC and iTunes library, I chose the option to sync higher bit-rate songs at 128kbps; this has a significant impact on file size. If I download songs from iCloud to my device, I'm assuming they are at 256kbps and I'm stuck with that. Are there any options for iCloud music (via iTunes Match) syncing at the lower bit-rate?

Hmmm, ok. I guess that this is definitively unclear... I did removed the actual physical files from my drive, actually just backed them up somewhere else...  And in addition to that it was also confusing to have iCloud and local files in iTunes....
iTunes Match does not magically change the location of the iTunes library to the cloud. iTunes still requires the files to physically be on your computer HDD so it can play them, unless you delete the files from your library.

To be clear, is there a way in iTunes match to download all of your music back in one shot, I.e. select all and download, or something similar? That's important as it will let me change the way I see and use that service from apple....
Yes. Highlight all the tracks you want to download, the right-click (or Control+click) and choose "download." However it will be more efficacious for you to restore your iTunes library from the backup you made prior to deleting all the files.

So what happens when I buy some music in the iTunes store? Isn't it automatically just added in iTunes match? Note that I haven't bought new music since i started using imatch.
Yes. Any new music you purchae from the store will be downloaded to your computer, marked as "purchased" and immediately be availble to any other iOS devices you have assocciated with your iTunes Store account ID and have iTM enabled.

  • HT1349 how can i sync my iphone to itunes?  I have wifi and itunes match?

I lost all my music, when I reset my iphone 4s by mistake.  I have a pc computer. I tried transferring my itunes by hook up and wi fi.  nothing works. I got itunes match and icloud, but can't get my songs back on my iphone.  HELP

If you are using iTunes Match you have to download your music to your phone from iCloud rather than syncing it to your phone with iTunes.  Just be sure your computer is logged into the Apple ID you used to purchase iTunes Match, and has iTunes Match turned on (Store>Turn on iTunes Match).  This will make your music library available for downloading on your phone.  If you don't see it on your phone, makes sure you are logged into the Apple ID used to subscribe to iTunes Match in Settings>Store and that you have iTunes Match turned on in Settings>Music.

When you say a new user ID, are you referring to your Apple ID that you use to make purchases in the iTunes Store, etc? Or are you talking about a new user account on the same Mac?

  • HT1844 Library Issue:  I just imported 2 CD's into ITunes.  They show up in "Recently Added" and on my other devices via ITunes Match, but NOT in the ITunes software on the computer where I added them.

Library Issue:  I just imported 2 CD's into ITunes.  They show up in "Recently Added" and on my other devices via ITunes Match, but NOT in the ITunes software on the computer where I added them.  They show up in the search box, but when I click on the results it just kicks me to ALL my music.  I have imported thousands of songs/CD's before and this is a new one.

Something may have gone wrong with the index of the Music playlist. Making another change to the library such as downloading the current iTunes Free Single of the Week, or deleting one track from your library and reimporting it, should fix the problem.
If that doesn't work close iTunes and delete the hidden file sentinel from inside the main iTunes folder, then start iTunes again. It should run a consistency check when it starts up which ought to correct things.

  • ICloud Drive vs iTunes Match questions

So I have been looking into different ways of having my music accessible throughout all of my OS devices. From what I have seen, I can either purchase a subscription to iTunes Match, or I can just purchase additional iCloud storage. Now just for the sake of my music, I would need to purchase a 200 GB plan, costing me about $50 a year, therefore the iTunes Match subscription would be the cheaper alternative at $24.99 a year. However I do have a couple of questions regarding both options.
Ideally, what I would like to do, is to be able to open iTunes on either my MacBook Air or my iMac, or the Music app on my iPhone or iPad, and be able to access and play any song in my entire collection. Also, syncing of playlists throughout my devices is something I desire greatly.
Now that OS X Yosemite is out (all my devices are either running OS X Yosemite or iOS 8), I understand that file sharing is made much easier. So this led me to think that maybe I should purchase additional storage and store my music in the iCloud Drive. But here is where I start needing some clarity. Suppose I open iTunes or the Music app on a device. Will my entire collection be visible through the app(s), or would I have to access iCloud Drive and play the files from there? Also, assuming that my entire collection can be seen via the app(s), will any playlists that I create be synced? Also concerning the iPhone, if I choose to play a song, will it get downloaded from the Drive onto the device, taking up internal storage, or will it get streamed? Is there, perhaps, a way to have these app(s) continuously sync their libraries with a specific "Music" folder on iCloud Drive (with playlists being synced)?
From what I understand from iTunes Match, all of my songs that are matched with songs from the iTunes Store will immediately be made available to me in my iTunes Library for playing. Now the songs that do not get matched: do they get uploaded to the storage that is provided by iTunes Match (25,000 songs), or do they get uploaded to my iCloud Drive? Are the songs that matched included in this 25,000 song limit, or does it only count the songs that didn't match? Will iTunes Match sync my playlists across all devices, regardless of which device the playlist was created on? Also, on the iPhone, same question as before, will songs be streamed from the storage that iTunes Match provides or will they have to be downloaded to play?
Based on how I want to be able to access and play my music, I'm inclined to think that maybe iTunes Match is the better (and cheaper) alternative? If simply using the iCloud Drive is good enough, then I wouldn't mind paying the extra amount for storage because I'm sure I'll be taking advantage of file sharing even outside of music. iTunes Match also has the ad-free iTunes Radio which might be cool too.
I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about this or if you have any better methods of keeping all music files organized and synced across all devices, then I'm all ears.
P.S this is my first post so sorry if it's lengthy.

ITunes match does not use iCloud Drive to store music. if you want to share music with all your devices, you should purchase iTunes Match. ICloud Drive provides storage for other non music data and you have 5gb free - you can purchase more if required.

You have posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question does not appear to be related to. You will probably get better help by posting in the Using iPhone forum.

  • Add even one song to iPhone (manual sync) and now iPhone erases rest of music library?

    Many thanks for your attention.
This has been happening more and more - especially with more recent iOS and iTunes updates.
I long have kept many Movies and much Music on my iPod or (now) iPhone.
In the past, whenever I wanted to add a new song to the iPhone, I would just drag and drop the song into it from my desktop.
Almost all of my music I converted over from CDs I own. Same with the movies.
I almost never buy music or movies from the iTunes store.
I have always had iTunes Sync set to Manual.
Until a couple years ago, no problems.
Now, sometimes I drag one film over or add one new song - and the rest of my music library (and all the movies) on my iPhone are seemingly automatically erased. Poof - they're all gone!
It doesn't happen each time - sometimes the song or songs are copied over and my iPhone music library is added to - as I planned.
But sometimes, I perform the same step - and the new song is added - but all (over 4000) of the songs already in library, all the playlists, etc., vanish.
It takes a while to add over 4000 songs to the iPhone (again and again). I had read over last couple years of bugs that would be fixed, etc., but it seems to be much worse now, not better.
Except - the few songs I once downloaded from the iTunes store. Those appear - ready to play yet  - but ready to be downloaded again.
I have tried several things to combat this - deleted Pref files, etc. But there is no pref file on a Mac for the iPhone. Only for iTunes.
I should say I do not keep an iTunes Library on my computer. It is mostly empty (to save HD space). As my iPhone is 64GB - that would be 64GB of needless space taken up - when I only listed to music or watch movies via my iPhone. Up until about two years ago - this was never an issue though, since back to the first iPod. And I have always had my iTunes set to Manual Sync.
I do not use iCloud to backup my music.
I would just manually add a song or a movie to iPhone via my desktop.
Any suggestions to stop this from repeatedly happening welcome. My thanks in advance for any help.

Many thanks for reply and suggestions, Lawrence.
If a corrupt music database on iPhone - why was this happening on iPods (in the past)  as well?
I have done complete Restores and Re-installs of iOS in the past. But this problem keeps popping up.
But - will try your suggestion.
It seems to be connected to Apple moving to iCloud and people backing up their music there. Also, many (or most) people also keep all their music on their Mac. I don't do either. iPhone always recognizes the few songs or films I downloaded from Store (they are also erased - but I have the joy of the option to download them again).
But - most of my music and movies come from my own CD collection and my own DVD collection - not from iTunes Store.
Your Playlist of All Music suggestion. If I understand right, I would have to load all music to iTunes first (some 40GB?)
    Then Sync.
But I don't want to keep all 40GB+ of music perpetually on Mac.

  • My Music from iTunes Match will not sync on Apple TV

I cannot seem to get my iTune Match to sync to my Apple TV.
Selected MyMusic and get the message that it will take a few minutes depending on library size and internet speed.
Library size is big and speed is quick yet I have left this buffering for a whole day on a number of occasions and it is still buffering hours later.
ANy any help would be most appreciated.

I had the same problem. I "Reset" (not just restarted) my Apple TV and when I reconnected to iTunes Match it successfully connected and I'm able to play songs through iTunes Match. Not sure if it matters but I'm using a wired connection.

  • Hi,  iTunes is no longer syncing my iPhoto library to my iPhone 4. Everything was syncing fine when I first got the phone, but, over the past week or so, it's stopped syncing photos.   Now, after attempting to start from scratch by deleting all the photos

    Hi,
iTunes is no longer syncing my iPhoto library to my iPhone 4. Everything was syncing fine when I first got the phone, but, over the past week or so, it's stopped syncing photos.
Now, after attempting to start from scratch by deleting all the photos on my iPhone, iTunes won't sync ANY photos from iPhoto back to my iPhone. I've restarted my phone, computer, etc., force quit all photo-related apps on my iPhone, and tried various combinations of turning iTunes' photo syncing on/off, switching photo sync folders, etc., all to no avail -- I can't get my iPhoto library back on to my iPhone no matter what I do.
Anyone encounter a similar situation? (I've already sent feedback to Apple.) Thanks in advance.

Try deleting what is called the iPod Photo Cache.

    Backup drive?
    Subscribe to iTunes Match?
If neither of the above and you don't have the CD and can't find your tracks on the computer then they you're stuck.  A file recovery utility will cost $100, plus another $100 for an external drive to which to resue the files, and may not even work.  You can buy a lot of CDs for $200.

  • My itunes match will not sync properly

    Mac User same thing
Hello there here is my problem. My itunes match will not sync properly. It shows a lot of songs over 100 with the icloud match status as "Waiting"
Here is what i have done
    1. Reinstall the entire OS delete everything and start from scratch
    2. Turn on and off itunes match.
    3. Hold down the option key
    4. Move my music out of the music folder clear everything out of my itunes and bing back my music.
    5. Use backup copies of my music in case the music files had been corrupted.
    6. Checked numerious mac community forms that report simular issues.
    7. Tried another macbook pro that I have
    8. My wifes account which has about 8000 songs did no have the issue. My account seems to have the issue sobeservices2. I beleive this to be account specific. My account has 11481 songs and about 100 to 100 show with the status of "waiting"
    9. I get no error messages
    10. I've tried multiple ISP - COMCAST - FIOS - I even tried multiple computers
    11. Redid the entire os
    12. My account has problems "*****s2" but my wife account does not
    13. Replicated the issue on more then one computer it seems only has problems with my itunes account. Suck waiting to upload
and its not always the same songs sometimes it's different songs that it gets suck waiting to upload.
    14. Removed the waiting songs and attempted again
    15. Started with fresh iTunes had the server match a blank itunes folder  to the point where it said "0 Songs Match" then re-added them
    16. Called Apple Care and spoke with a Senior Advisor who told me he would have to escalate a ticket and he to thought I had done all the tsing possible and that it was up to the engineers to figure out a solution.
I have been working on this for about 4 weeks now. All my trouble shooting has pointed it to be an account specific issue.
    Any advise from the community

    Hi
I have had a similar set of issues.  8000 songs, 800 in waiting.  All ripped from CD into Apple Lossless - mainly classical so most didn't match directly.
First I ripped all these 8000 songs for my father first on his laptop from his CD collection.  Eventually got them all matched or uploaded to his Match account (except one) by the usual tricks people suggest (e.g. recoding as AIFF or MP3 etc, deleting, re-adding blah blah). Though of course I shouldn't really have to waste my time doing this.  One song absolutely refused to upload. Tried everything - including buying a pristine downloadable version off the publisher's website.  Still resolutely refuses to upload.
Anyway - main problem is now with my PC. I copied all these 8000 tracks over. Re-installed everything etc.  800 remain in "waiting" (even though they uploaded Ok on a different account).  When I rip my own CDs even some common stuff (e.g. Bowie/Stones) gets uploaded instead or matched and often with one or two tracks stuck in 'waiting'.
If I then look at my IPad (with Match enabled), it will show these waiting tracks as if they were already downloaded to it (which of course they are not). If I try and play one of them it just skips over it.
