ITunes match service multi user compatibility question

I have a brand new iPad and I am thinking about getting iTunes match.  My wife and daughter both have ipod touches.  Can I synchronize music and apps across diferrent family users accounts and devices or just a single users account and devices?

iTunes Match seems to be designed for using all your iDevices with just one iTunes Account. I think the best way to use it between all the family members devices is to have one iTunes account for all devices. This means you will share music playlists and all purchases from iTunes Store/AppStore will be charged this one account.
(You can still have different iCloud accounts to synchronizing contact, calendars etc.)

  • ITunes Match - Service Now Working - Root Cause?

From 7 Aug - 12 Aug '13 iTunes Match service failed to operate, it is now reliable in UK - has anyone seen an explanation from Apple?
Throughout the system status showed iTunes Match status Green with no issues logged: http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/
Many iTunes Match service users from multiple countries raised support calls (via support page above) and provided feedback direct to Apple via: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
It would help to know where to look for Apple notification in case a future multi-day service outtage.
Everyone should have learned the importance of secure backup, discrete from iTunes.
Certainly iTunes Match cannot now be relied upon, which is a great pity.
Since launch it is only the adding of too many coutries at once that has caused such severe service interruption.

iTunes Match now running very smoothly in the UK.
Issues reported from other nations on forced timeout at Step 1 now very rare, Swiss & Belgians the most recent.
Likely that a significant round of infrastructure update / repair is complete.
Arguably the main shortfall is absense of communication from Apple.
Delighted that the service has been restored.

  • Will the iTunes Match service ignore my personalised metadata? (I have a very particular way of organising my iTunes files)

I know this isn't somthing popular or substantial but, all the files in my iTunes library are 100% tagged! From each individual song composer to hi-resoloution artwork. Will the iTunes Match service revert the metadeta back to the iTunes default on my iPhone and other Apple deveces?

The metadata on your library will not be touched.

  • Icloud & itunes match for windows users

Hi I need a little help I want to purchase the itunes match but have some reservations hoping to get answers. I have read through some of the post for answers and here are my remainng questions. Thank you in advance for your help
I have 160gb ipod classic and I use windows 7 on my pc & laptop. I want itunes match so that I have exact matching itunes libraries on both devices and it seems as itunes match and the icoud can do that right?
I want access to all of my music and not just my itunes purchases everywhere I sign on, Is this possible even though I am not using iphone, ipad or a mac?
Is the $24.99 something I purchase every year to keep access? I can upload up to 25,000 songs max using this service?  How do I back up library after having this service, I don't want to lose any music especially uploaded music from cd's
    Thanks again

iTunes Match does what you are thinking, you can download your library to iTunes on any connected device (your iPod will still sync with iTunes, not iCloud directly) And it is a yearly subscription.
Back up your library using any conventional  method, Match is not Backup.
This is entirely independent of iCloud, you do not need an iCloud account for Match.

  • ITunes Match and additional users

I have a 15" Late 2008 MacBook Pro with 8 Gig of RAM and a 256 SSD. I am running 10.8.2 and iTunes 10.7 (21). I subscribed to iTunes Match shortly after it was introduced.
About a week or two ago I discovered a serious problem with my iTunes songs. Any songs that are in iCloud and matched will no longer play. If I try to play them iTunes just skips them. It I try to download a song I receive an error message that says
"This computer is already associated with an Apple ID. You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 72 days."
After a delay of a few seconds a second error screen appears which says "There was a problem downloading" + song. Error 11111.
Oddly enough, I created a different user on this computer 18 days ago. It is my wife. I imagine the error happened then.
I do not have all of my songs downloaded. When I purchased iTunes Match, I did so in part to preserve space on my SSD and for the convenience of having everything stored in the cloud.
I would very very much appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide me.

I checked and I didn't enable iTunes Match on the other computer.
I sent an email to Apple's iTunes team and I got a reply that this was a known issue and they are working on it. Pretty frustrating. I have not had such good luck with iTunes Match.

  • I'm having trouble streaming music from iCloud using iTunes Match service.

I'm having trouble recently after five months of subscribing to iTunes Match. I listen to music on my Apple TV and until recently everything was working fine. Now, whenever I try to play music from iCloud on Apple TV via iTunes Match, Apple TV says, "iTunes cannot connect to the newtork now. Try again later." This happens while all other services are working fine.
My iTunes Match account is active and valid. It works on my iPhone and Mac, but not the Apple TV.
Is this happening to many others as well. Any solutions? Thanks!!

    Hi ckwools,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!

  • Multi User Upgrade Question

I have a question about the Snow Leopard upgrade. Back when I bought Leopard, I only had one Mac at home (G4) so I bought the single user version. Since then we have purchased a MacBook and a G5 (both came with Leopard) and all are running on the same network. I want to upgrade them all to Snow Leopard and wonder if I can do that with the multi user license version of the upgrade even though each machine has a separate user license of Leopard? And if not, what is the most cost effective way to upgrade them.
    Thanks,
    Wes

    Hi Wes;
I am sorry to break the bad news to you but Macs that use G4 or G5 processors are not capable of being upgraded to Snow Leopard.
Only Macs that have Intel processor are capable of running Snow Leopard.

  • ITunes Match with an iOS device question

I just finished setting up iTunes Match on my iMac. I have an iPhone (16GB) that I keep a few hundred songs on. What happens if/when I enable iTunes Match on the phone? Do I lose what is currently on the phone? Does iTunes start downloading all 3000 songs I have in iCloud (which will not fit)? Or does everything stay the way it is, but I have the option of downloading any/all songs from iCloud to my iPhone?

After thinking this over. Let me reword my post.
When you turn on iTunes Match on your iPhone, what happens? The bottom line for me is I have much more music in iTunes than I can fit on my iPhone. I keep a few hundred songs on my phone and thats the way I want to keep it. If I turn on iTunes Match on my iPhone I get a warning "iTunes Match will replace the music library on this device" It doesn't say what it will replace it with. Will it try to add all 3,000 songs from iTunes? Will it just replace the songs currently on my iPhone with the iTunes Match versions?

  • ITunes Match and iPod Nano Syncing Question

I recently subscribed to iTunes Match.  My son and husband still have iPod Nanos.  How do you sync the nano with the iTunes match?

I subscribed to Match because the USB ports in the laptop where my iTunes playlists resides are toast - do not work.  I could not sync my iPod to it.  So I thought if I subscribed to Match, I would be able to access my playlists with my other laptop.  I have iTunes installed on my other laptop and the USB ports work!  I also authorized my other laptop for the account.
So I thought "great - I'll access my original playlists with my second laptop and connect my iPod Nano and sync it to the second laptop and it will load my playlists on my Nano".
Nope - I get nothing.  I have it set up to sync automatically - didn't work.  I tried to sync manually - it acts like it's syncing, tells me it's done and there is nothing on my Nano.  Help?!

  • ITunes Match/Cloud on 2 machines, question

    Hello,
I put 60GB of music on my Macbook onto Itunes Match/Cloud.
I have an iMac that serves as a back up for my Macbook, and therefore it has the exact same music
When in iTunes on iMac I want to add it to Cloud but it starts scanning the music (in the iMac). So Im wondering if it will try to add the music on the iMac and therefore duplicate on the Cloud/Match what I already have there which is the same exact music on the laptop (which remember I back up on the iMac)
    Your thoughts?
    Thank you

Basically there's no need to worry that having the same song on two different computers will result in a duplication of songs in the cloud. It could happen but the circumstances are likely to be rare. If you bought the music from Apple or another online retailer (like Amazon) or if you ripped a CD and copied the ripped CD to the other computer, there's almost no chance you'll get a duplicate in the cloud.
    For the curious....
If the song on your iMac came from one source and the song on your MacBook came from another, and if they were significantly different (by whatever metrics iTunes Match uses to match songs) it is conceivable that the two might get duplicated. The good news is you can look through your library once matching is finished and if you find dupes you can selectively delete them from the cloud (and computer).

  • IPhone/iTunes/AppleTV/iPod - Multi-User, Multi-Device, Multi-Issues

    *The Setup* -
    iMac Intel - 2.33/2G Rm/700G HD
    OS - 10.4.10
    iTunes - 7.4.2
    2 iPhone (8g) - 1.1.1
    1 iPod (60g) - 1.2.1
    2 Apple TV's - 1.1
    Shared Music/Photos
Connected via USB through Self-powered USB Hub
    Wireless - 802.11n Apple Extreme
    *Shared Files*
Music/Photos placed in Shared Folder outside of each users Home Folder. Permissions set to system with r/w for both uses who have Admin rights.
iTunes library is independent, allowing for creation of own playlist. Additions to library are done by drag/drop of Music folder to import added songs/video
iPhoto library is setup in the shared folder as well with permissions updated for all photos to system with r/w for both users.
    *The Issues*
    1. _First to sync, first to own_ - Once one user syncs iphone to iPhoto, second user can not. "Not Enough Permissions" error appears when second user attempts to do so.  Deleting iPod photo cache each time iphone is sync'd seems to be only work around.
    2. _In the Sync, down the drain_ - I have four devices that could be syncing at one time, 2 Apple TVs, 1 iPod and 1 iPhone.. I am finding that if all are syncing at the same time iTunes becomes unstable and crashes.  Once iPhone stops syncing issue resolves and iPod and Apple TVs complete without issue.
    3. _You own what you import_ - This is more of a request than a issue. Photo's brought in to the same shared iPhoto library by difference users on the same system are owned by that user, though the library is set "system" rights, new photos are not updated with this setting.   I would to see a preference for this option in iPhoto and iTunes, when library's are shared, new imports are updated to reflect that state.

I finally found this. It is the same question and I didn't find it at the time I opened my discussion. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4431992?start=0&tstart=0
Looks like I am not the only one to be locked out of iTunes Match

  • Time Capsule & NAS Multi-User Security Question

I want to know how time capsule manages multiple users backing up to the internal or USB drive attached to it. I understand that, in general, time machine uses all the drive's space, and just deletes the oldest backups, is this correct with the Time Capsule too? if so, how does every user get a fair share of the backup space? And if multiple users backup to the same drive (same Time Capsule), is there any security, or could someone just run the migration assistant to steal another user's data?
Oh, and if you backup to the drive attached to the capsule via USB, what do you see when you take that drive and plug it into your computer directly, is it like any time machine backup, or is it formated differently, like if there are multiple people backing up, is each person's backup stored in a password protected growing disk image or something? That would be great if it worked that way, where it would require a password to restore from the backup...
