ITunes Match Smart Playlist sorting on iOS7 by date added?

Playlist works find on iTunes.
Messed up on both iPad + iPhone
Criteria basically sorts by genre, and only for songs added within X months.
I have tried to add the criteria "Kind = music", and also limiting to 9999 songs, sorted by date.
The first few songs are correct and in the right order, but after that there are just random songs.
Any ideas?

Hi guys, i have cracked it!!
Ok, manage music manually on your iphone, plug into your computer in itunes to do all this
. In each playlist, Sort by date added latest date at top of page
. On yr iphone, make a new playlist, call it ie: chill 2 or pop 2 etc
. Grab the chill playlist from iphone playlist and drag all into chill 2 folder
. Delete chill playlist from iphone
. Rename chill 2 playlist to be 'chill' same name as itunes playlist so it can sync when you sync again
I did this with all my playlists, within the iphone itself whilst connected to computer itunes, now on my iphone, i see all my playlists as date added not alphabetical!!
This has annoyed me for ages!! So glad i cracked it!! Found no answers on the internet, but so many people asking!!
Cheers and goodluck

  • ITunes Match: Smart Playlists now including videos that shouldn't be there

    Hi All,
Hopefully someone can assist me with this, as it properly doing my head in.
I am a big user of Smart Playlists in iTunes, which is brilliant with iTunes Match. However, I have a couple of smart playlists that I use all the time that I am having problems with. These two playlists are very similar so I will just use one as an example.
The criteria of this smart list is 1. Media Kind = Music, 2. Rating = less than one star, 3. Plays = less than 10. You may have figured out this is a playlist I use to listen to new music before I rate it.
So, here's the problem. On iTunes, this playlist is correct in that it only shows music, however, on my iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, the playlists include some of my music videos which all have a start rating of 1 or higher. Of course, these music videos dont meet two of the smart playlists criteria; media kind and rating. Given that the playlist is correct within iTunes, I can only assume that this is an issue somewhere in iCloud as opposed to my local settings, but I don't know for sure.
Apart from just being a general annoyance, when trying to play these playlists, as soon as a video turns up in a music shuffle, it then takes ages to buffer and often just causes the device to hang, requiring a reboot or similar.
Any suggestions guys and gals? Any help offered will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Stu

UPDATE: so i was looking through some more, and here's another issue: I bought James Blunts album many many years ago. If I look at the "matched" playlist it shows "Goodbye My Lover" which is track 4/11, the remaining 10 tracks are in the "purchased" playlist. Checking the info on "Goodbye My Lover" show that it is "Purchased AAC audio file"
I've also bought the AC/DC box set from iTunes, and some of those tracks are showing in the "uploaded" playlist!
In "View Options" i enabled iCloud status and it's just all over the place!  Music i've purchased (and subsequently added to iTunes from apple support allowing me to redownload purchases) are shown as "Uploaded" or "Matched", some songs from albums (imported) are matched and others uploaded. Parts of box sets are "uploaded", others are "matched" and others "purchased"...
what the?! I'm just confused! I'd like to use the option to upgrade my songs to the best quality (for my CD imports) and thought these playlists would help (actually a single button - "Upgrade" would be nice!) but they don't appear to be too accurate

  • ITunes Match Smart playlists refering to other playlists sync

Is it possible to sync smart playlists refering to other playlists in ITunes match?
This was not possible 1 year ago.

beans; everyone has this seeminlgy, and no one has a fix (smart lists accessing smart lists doesnt sync over Match, iTunes tells me. So best bet appears to be disabling match, canceling the Match renewal, and wait for io7...

  • ITunes Match/Smart Playlists/Holiday Music

Prior to iTunes Match, I use to use a "Smart Playlist" for my Holiday songs.  I would check them all and sync my iPhone to add them and, afte the Holildays, I would uncheck all the songs and re-sync my iPhone.  So, I only need to hear the songs during the time I want them.  I signed up for iTunes March and can't figure out a way to load the songs for the Holidays or -- more importantly -- unload the songs now that the Holidays are over.  (I am officially sick of hearing the songs.)  The song list is about 250 songs.     Is there way to replicate this "seasonality" that I use to be able to accomplish with my Smart Playlist in iTunes Match?

  • ITunes Match Smart Playlists Don't Appear to Work

    Hi all!
I was playing around with the smart playlists in iTunes last night, to try and keep an eye on how the sync to the cloud was progressing.
I created smart playlists with iCloud status is: duplicate, error, ineligible, local only, matched, purchased and uploaded.
Now, when I look at my full list of songs, I see the "ineligible" icon next to several items (mostly digital booklets) yet the ineligible playlist shows 0 entries. Similarly,  directly after importing a CD, the tracks on the CD show "waiting", I would expect my "local only" playlist to show these items, but again, that playlist shows 0 entries. The only playlist that appears to work is the "duplicate" playlist
anyone else had this before? am i doing something wrong (likely!)
    cheers!

  • ITunes Match smart playlist item count

after creating a smart playlist in iTunes that is supposed to limit to 50 items,
I can see the playlist on my iphone.  But the item limit does not exist.  The playlist is thousands of songs long instead of 50.
This REALLY needs to be fixed.
I truly hope more effort is put into properly supporting smart playlists in iTunes Match
I've attached an image that shows my smart playlist rules

This is a well known shortcoming of iTunes Match, it does not handle Smart Playlists on IOS devices well.
Current workaround involves use of standard playlists and 'download all' options - it is not neat and this capability is one of several needed in later versions of the service and IOS capability.

  • Bug: iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 podcast smart playlist sort order and how to fix.

There seems to be a bug in iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 involving the sort order of a smart playlist of podcasts. I created such a playlist and sorted by release date on iTunes but I noticed it had a different sort order on the iPod Touch.
After playing around with it a bit I found that the only way to preserve the sort order that I have in iTunes on the iPod Touch is to uncheck "Live Updating" in the smart playlist.

Confirming this incredibly annoying bug.  Basic list sorting not working... real bottom shelf work apple.
workaround update:  limit to must be turned on, set it to an absurdly high number if you don't want to actually limit the playlist, then one of the sortby options in that submenu will work.   The live update checkbox is irrelevant from experimentation.
This workaround does NOT fix the fundamental problem: sort order from itunes in smart playlists is not being synced and preserved in ios5 devices.
This is the latest in a long string of debacles which is making me seriously consider swapping to debian stable. (snow leopard to lion was a severe downgrade in performance for anyone doing heavy multitasking.. scheduling is FUBAR... when a command option escape beachballs on a brand new core 17 machine, your OS has serious problems with nice levels)

  • Smart playlist discrepency with iOS7

I found a weired discrepency when I sync one smart playlist on my iOS7 iPhone 5.
A smart playlist is like this,
    - Last Skipped is not in the last of (10) (days).
    - Limit (100) among (Mostly played)
What happen is every songs synced but only few songs are in the playlist in iPhone. In my iTune, all 100 songs are in the list with no issue.
I analyze what the problem is, and found out that
    - iTunes for Windows count songs that don't have a value of Last Skipped, which means "never skipped".
    - Music App in iOS doesn't count songs that don't have Last Skipped, which is WRONG
For example, I have 100 songs in the playlist, and if only 5 songs have been skipped before, there will be only 5 songs in the playlist, but other 95 songs are also copied to iPhone.
Anyone has a similar issue or can reproduct it? It should be fixed.

You won't like the answer, but if using the iCloud, your system doens't work anymore. I spent a lot of hours on the phone with apple support and basically, here is the fix...
Go into your smart playlist, remove the check mark on "live updating" and the problem will stop.
Here's the crappy part. That means when you rate something, it will not remove from your playlist until you sync to your itunes database and manually update the list again. Basically, smart playlists are broken. I don't know when this happened, but I used to do exactly what you did and now it doesn't work.
Wish I had a better answer for you. I am also disapointed.

  • ITunes Match and Playlists on iPhone - not syncing in correct order

Is anyone having problems with iTunes Match and playlists on their iPhone?  I normally have my playlists sorted by date, however, on my iPhone it is showing up in random order and not exactly like the playlist I have created on my computer. I wasn't sure if I need to change any settings or anything or if this was a glitch.

Please Please PLEASE DON'T reset your iPhone if you get this issue
As has been mentioned before try this first - connect your iPhone:
    1) Right click the iPhone icon in the Device list on the left-hand side of your iTunes window
    2) Click on the Reset Warnings entry
    3) Click on your iPhone icon in the devices list and look at the main window, then select the Applications tab
    4) Make sure you tick the Sync Applications box and select All Applications
    5) Press Apply in the lower right hand corner of iTunes
    6) Press the Sync button in the same position
You should get a warning that there are apps on your iPhone that should be backed up into iTunes. Select OK and your iPhone apps should be backed up with the rest of the Sync.
MAKE SURE NOT TO CHECK DON'T SHOW WARNING AGAIN!!!
I bet this is usually why people run into this problem, as we assume that it will do it automatically but it doesn't.

  • Copy iTunes 9 Smart Playlist to External USB Drive

Is is possible to copy iTunes 9 Smart Playlist to an external USB drive without burning CDs/DVDs? I have about 1TB of iTunes Purchased content that I have in a Smart Playlist (Kind=Purchased, Kind=Protected) that I would like to backup to another external USB drive. Apologies if I have missed a posting of how to do this, I did search. Thanks if you have a solution.

    Bump...any takers?

  • HT5637 How does itunes match sync playlists?

How does itunes match sync playlists between my computer, ipad and ipod?

It will tell you that the library exceeds the limit and will not proceed. So if you have more than the 25k limit (and keep in mind that iTunes Store purchases do not count against this limit) the only way you can use iTM is to move some music out of the library to get under the limit before signing up for the service.

  • IPad music smart playlist sort

I have a problem with the sort order of smart playlists being different than the computer I am synching with? Any ideas?. I hav ipad2 synced with an iMac 27" running lion. Any help very much appreciated

    it's a bug, but here's the workaround:
at the bottom of the playlist, select "Limit to [however many] items selected by [choose the order you prefer].
    • by "limiting" to a high number of items or GB, you won't be limiting the playlist at all.
    • to sort alphabetically, choose "selected by name." (or whatever other option you want).
after doing this, you shouldn't see any change to the items displayed in the smart playlist in itunes. however, the playlist will now sync properly to your idevices.  :-)

  • How can i make itunes alphabetize smart playlists with manual playlists...

...in the library panel on the left? its currently separated into two sections: smart, then manual. i want them alphabetized altogether, like previous versions of itunes did. i'm running 7.6.2 (9)

    Don't think it's possible.
I'm running 7.42 and it sorts smart playlists first.

  • Smart playlist sort order issue

I'm having an issue sorting a smart playlist. I've searched through other questions on here but can't find the identical issue.
I've created a smart playlist that contains the contents of two other smart playlists. I've tried to sort this list by 'name', by clicking on the arrow in the column heading, but the list still leaves the two playlists separately, ie. it sorts each original playlist separately, and then puts one after the other in the play order.
I have other smart playlists constucted in the same way, and have no issues with them, and I can't see what the difference is with this one!
    I'm using 11.0.4.4, on a Windows 7 PC.

I am also having the same problem. Running the newest iTunes and iPhone software my smart playlists are not working correctly. My "Recently Added" is correct in iTunes, and if I look at the playlist on my iPhone info in iTunes it is correct there, but the actual playlist on my iPhone is populated entirely with audiobook files. I have tried deleting and recreating the playlist which gives the same results. I have also specified that items within the playlist should be music files only and still get the same results.
I have a playlist that's Top 50 Most Played that's also not behaving properly (ie correct in iTunes but not on my iPhone).
    Any suggestions?

  • Smart Playlist sorting

Is there any way to layer sort in a smart playlist in Itunes?
    example :
A podcast is Tagged wrong so to link the four hours daily podcast I would need to sort as follows
    Release date
    => Track
I know you can edit the tags.. I want to know if there is an easier/faster path then dumping the four hours into a running dumb playlist in the correct order.

Its a daily radio show. The way I deal with it now is to sort by release day then drop the tracks in the correct order into a normal playlist.
Is there a way to sort a smart playlist twice, for example in standard music, First by year then by track?
