ITunes Match stalls

Three days trying and still no luck. iTunes Match goes through Steps 1 and 2, then stalls repeatedly in Step 3 on uploading music and artwork. Many, many stops and starts with the same result: stalling (no freezing, just stalling). Just my problem?

Try this solution. It has worked for many. check here
After deleting all the songs with cloud-slash icons, it matches the library successfully in a few minutes.
Hope this can help someone.

  • ITunes match stalling on step 2

My step 2 has also stalled. After reading the prior posts I understand the issues with the server and response to the new service. My question is, if I close my MacBook, will the sync continue when I reopen it? Or will I need to stop it and start it over. Thanks!

Suggest selecting iTunes Match from the left pane and requesting 'stop' prior to closing iTunes client.
When you start iTunes again, iTunes Match will automatically attempt to synchronise the library.

  • ITunes Match stalls at step 1... for days

I'm trying to run iTunes Match and it simply stalls at stage 1. Yes, I believe I've tried the fixes listed in other places where this seems to have been an ongoing issue since launch - and not all of these work for the people there, either. These include removing stoping and starting Match, stopping and starting Genius, stopping and starting Genius and Match, moving the iTunes Library files and reimporting them as new libraries and so on. Nothing is working for me.
I run iTunes match and it matches "most" of my songs and then stalls. I've left it for days to see how long the stall is and it never clears.Over the last few days' stops and starts, it's matched as follows:
    13508 / 14010
    13535 / 14010
    13541 / 14010
    13998 / 14010
    13999 / 14010
    13966 / 14010
    14002 / 14010
    14007 / 14010
    13964 / 14010
    13348 / 14010
    14008 / 14010
    14003 / 14010
    14008 / 14010
    14001 / 14010
... you get the picture. iTunes frequently also can't access the iTunes Store or comes up with unknown errors. Anyone any ideas (please exclude the ones I've tried). As far as I can see, this service simply isn't ready for prime time.
As a background, this is an entirely new music library. I set up my Mac from scratch a few months ago with a new SSD. My music library had a lot of old files sampled at low bit rates - I was re-ripping to flac for my hifi, so I decided to re-rip to iTunes as well at the same time (my previous iTunes Match had lots of stuff it couldn't match, but was uploaded at a low bit rate since that was all that was available). My network connection is wired and I have very good broadband (cable) speed.

It would be useful to know which files iTunes Match is stalling on, but I can't find any way to do that.

  • I've twice tried to use iTunes match. It stalls in step 2. I've rebooted my Mac computer and still stalls. Apple's taken the $25 but not delivered the service. Can I get some personal help?

I've twice tried to use iTunes match. It stalls in step 2. I've rebooted my iMac computer and it still stalls. Apple's taken the $25 but not delivered the service. Can I get some personal help? There are 12,733 songs, a few dozen of which are not going to be in the Apple music library because they are unique to my collection. Also, some titled "Track XX" and no artist. I assume these would either not upload or else just be uploaded. But, after an overnight of step 2, the iTunes match program was still on song number 7384 or 12733 (it was on that number for over 12 hours). Looking in the music library, activating the iCloud icon and status fields, there were hundreds of songs with the status "waiting."

I also took it to my college tech support center, they tried to take the ram out and reinsert it and clean up the dust, but the problem still remains.
I am able to use my computer in Safeboot mode (only)
Well it could still be a software problem if you installed a third party program after the OS X wipe and install, because by booting into Safe Mode it disables certain functions of OS X and hardware. Check for updates or problems for all your third party software, include everything, including menulets, System Preference panes, hacks and so forth.
If you restored any sort of software from backup like TimeMachine, it likely was corrupted data and now is returned.
If the college tech support found a lot of dust clogging the rear exhaust vents behind the fans, then likely the heat damage done to the machine has already occured and can't be reversed. Video cards are usually first to go, which Safe Mode does disable the video card somewhat.
Run through this list of fixes, it's systematic in nature, also has a Hardware Test to see what's going on

Too bad this is occurring to a mere 4 year old machine, but dust will do that. Here is the culprit that Apple doesn't tell anyone about.

  • ITunes Match now stalls on step 1.  I have a PC with Windows Vista.  I've use Match for a long time

iTunes Match now stalls on step 1.  I have a PC with Windows Vista.  I've used iTunes Match for a long time & it has worked well until last week.  Most of my songs now have a dotted outlined cloud beside them & I can't download to my phone.  6 new albums can't be seen at all.  I've turned off Match (with shift key down) & turned it back on - restricted my upload speed to 75% of max - I even uninstalled iTunes & re-installed it.  Any suggestions?

iTunes Match is stalled in the same place again today.  Step 1 seems to have completed as the blue progress bar is complete.  The message says "Delivering your iTunes Match results..."  When I went to bed last night, this is where iTunes was stuck.  But this morning, Match had stopped trying to "deliver."  It obviously did not finish because 6 new albums do not show up on my iPhone 5 - all of the 3 steps on the Match page were grayed out this morning & the "Start" button was available.
This is what I did yesterday - I looked at My Music and clicked "Songs."  I then added the "iCloud" column and sorted by that field.  I found about 100 files that had a problem of some sort (cloud with exclamation point inside).  Each of them had lost track of where the music file was - even though the music files were exactly where they should have been.  I re-linked (one at a time) all of the music files to the song titles.  In the cloud field one song was described as "ineligible for iTunes Match."  It had a could with a line drawn through it.   I didn't know what that meant, so I deleted the song.
I then turned off iTunes Match holding the shift key down & iTunes began collecting information from my library.  This took several hours but it did seem to complete because it changed to the "delivering results" message.  However, this morning I noticed that all of the files I re-linked yesterday still had the "error cloud" symbol today - a cloud with an exclamation mark inside.  Yesterday these songs wouldn't play until I re-linked the files.  Today they will play as expected, but they still have the "error cloud.'  To add to my confusion albums marked with the "error file" are still able to be downloaded to my phone, but the songs with the "error cloud" will not play smoothly on my PC.  They stutter regularly throughout playback.  However, if I download one of those songs or albums to my phone, it plays perfectly.
I hope this helps someone to explain what my problem is & the appropriate solution.  I have a little more than 12,000 songs in my library in case that makes a difference.  Should I just delete the files with he "error cloud"?  All of the songs appear to be still in the cloud because they are available for download to my phone.

  • My Itune match doesn't work.  When it tries to update, it stalls on step 3.  If I don't cancel it, I get a window saying "Itunes has stopped working" and the program shuts down.  How can I fix this???

When my Itunes Match tries to update, it stalls every time on the third step "Uploading remaining songs and artwork".  If I don't cancel it, very shortly I get a message saying "Itunes has stopped working" and then Itunes shuts down completely.  Is there a fix for this?  I have the most recent version of Itunes.  HELP!

    Hi folks,
I found a solution in case your MATCH is still buggy...
JUST BOOT YOUR MAC HOLDING THE SHIFT KEY (until you see a progress bar).
Then in itunes disable and re-enable iTunes Match.
It should rescan all your library and eventually works.
At the end just reboot your Mac normally.
    Best regards from Paris.

  • ITunes Match is stalling on Step 2. Anything I can do?

Just signed up for iTunes Match and left it running overnight. Step 2 stalled about halfway through my library (i.e., 10k of 22k songs.) Restarted, stalled at a bit earlier. Will try restarting the process. Anything else I can do?

    Hi,
Try holding shift key whilst turning off match. Close iTunes and reopen then turn on match. You will be asked to add this computer, do so. Match will remember previous matches and uploads, so process will be quicker. It will take time and I suggest that you don't allow the computer to go to sleep.

  • ITunes Match problem - Stalling at Step 2

Thought I'd give iTunes Match a go. However, the process keeps stalling and erroring at Step 2, trying the match songs with iTunes Store library. It always gets to "101 of 4158 Songs Checked" and no further. Been doing this everytime for about 5 days. Any thoughts before I contact Apple for a subscription refund?

This is a known current problem. Please see this thread for more info: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6355061?tstart=0
Its very frustrating and it may be that the best alternative is to persue a refund and use another cloud service that doesn't stop working for a week at a time.

  • 2 HUGE Issues with iTunes Match that I am having...

Okay, so I have now had iTunes Match for one week and am having two MAJOR issues which I cannot seem to sort out.  Apple is at least investigating the first, but unless anybody here has any suggestions I am out of luck on the second for now...
Issue # 1: Literally every song that was uploaded to iCloud because it could not be matched is freezing when attempting to download them to my iDevices (all high-quality to begin with, encoded at 256kbps AAC "iTunes Plus quality)
Say, for example, I wish to download an entire album.  It will download each song one by one, but whenever it is finalizing the download on an uploaded song, the little progress wheel stops at about 11 o'clock.  It then stays in that position and skips to the next song, repeating this process any time it hits an uploaded track.  The end result is a partial album where I can play any songs downloaded from Apple's matched selection, and a whole bunch of progress wheels next to my songs I had to upload.  I have tried deleting my iCloud and iTunes library, and then re-adding the entire collection, with no luck whatsoever
Issue # 2: Not quite a technical glitch like above, but rather a playback experience issue due to the fact that Apple likely has many different versions of the same album from country to country.  Any matched Gapless albums (such as most live albums, Pink Floyd's discography, etc) end up skipping even though they are the Apple downloaded (matched) versions straight across the album.  The volume also seems to vary from track to track as they skip, leading me to believe that it must pull the songs at random from one of likely many albums spread across Apple's worldwide iTunes stores.  This is likely due in part to the fact that many albums have varying distributors across the world, resulting in a different set of AAC files for each distributor's release of the album.  I'd like to say that the problem is isolated to one or two albums, but pretty much my entire collection suffers on at least a few songs
Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions or commiserators out there on these two problems???

(all high-quality to begin with, encoded at 256kbps AAC "iTunes Plus quality)
Reading this, I assume you mean they were imported into iTunes, then AAC copies were made and the originals deleted.  If this is not how you produced the AAC versions, I may know at least part of the answer.
iTunes Match will allow some flavors of AAC to be matched/uploaded, but the uploaded files will not play.  If they are part of an album where some songs were matched, when it comes time for them to play, playback will either stall, or skip forward until a matched track comes up.
I know this through personal experience.  I identified two encoders that I used in Audacity to create AAC files that Apple let through, but simply would not play.  My fix was to delete the offending files from my iTunes library and from the cloud, re-import to iTunes, make new AAC copies within iTunes, then start up iTunes match again.  The new files uploaded and played just fine.

  • ITunes Match reboots my computer

    First, the technical specs:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac13,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed: 3.4 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 4
    Memory: 32 GB
    Boot ROM Version: IM131.010A.B05
    OS: Yosemite 10.10.3
    iTunes: 12.1.2.27
My iTunes library is located on an external LaCie 3TB Thunderbolt drive.
For some time I've been trying to determine why I could not get iTunes Match to work properly when syncing with my iOS devices (an iPhone 5 and iPad 2 (maybe). Both are on iOS 8.3. After much poking and prodding, I realized that the issue was due to my having over 35,000 songs in iTunes. I spent a lot of time paring down my library until I got down to about 24,000 songs (this includes the 200 or so purchases on my Apple ID, so I should now have plenty of buffer).
I also wiped out the iTunes Match data from prior syncs by clearing out my library then deleting the songs that iTunes indicated were up on Match. I wanted a fresh sync of data.
However, every time I try to launch iTunes Match, whenever I get about a third of the way through Step 1, my Mac reboots. It appears as if Yosemite freezes, but instead of the grey screen of death, the computer just reboots. I've tried looking for crash logs, but there is nothing I can find. Even though I am not an expert by any means, I can usually find the crash log or even the entry in some log somewhere I can grab a screen cap of to send to the more tech savvy. But right now it looks like nothing's getting recorded and Yosemite is treating the reboot as just that: a reboot.
In my attempts to troubleshoot, I have reinstalled Yosemite, reinstalled iTunes, deleted and rebuilt my iTunes library database. I've run Disk First Aid on both my boot drive (through recovery mode) and my Thunderbolt drive. I've even re-imported every song, twice, and culled any file that caused an issue on import. I've scoured my collection for not only absolute duplicates, but also, when the choice came between a song contained in a full album and a song in a partial album, I deleted the partial album's file.
At this point, I've run out of ideas on troubleshooting. Well, maybe not quite. The only variable I did not check out was the presence of my husband's purchased music. Ideally it should be ok, since we linked our accounts (through the family feature). Yet this was a newer feature and this is the first time I've tried to re-sync iTunes Match from scratch since the Family feature went live.
In any event, any suggestions or advice would be most welcome. I rather enjoyed iTunes Match, and am loathe to give it up. Yet I can't see paying for a service that won't work. If you need to look at logs, I'll be happy to provide. Key words to look for would help greatly.
    Thank you.
Edit: I also repaired permissions as part of my troubleshooting.
Edit: I removed all purchased music. I also deauthorized and reauthorized my iMac and logged out of and back into my account (I only have one account). iTunes Match still stalls about ⅓ of the way in to Stage 1. I stopped iTunes Match from processing right now.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
When you post the log extract or the crash report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • ITunes Match Step 3 Stuck on Last Song

i just signed up for iTunes Match and already experienced a bug ...
Going trough installation I am stuck in Step 2 on the last song...
I read on other forums that people restarted computers, stopped-restarted the installation yet after having tried even this I found no success...
I saw other people suggesting you might wanna convert your files into other format as maybe itunes does not reckognize certain format but that was a pretty long post and Im wondering if Itunes has figured out a ... more smooth way ! !
im not a tech expert and neither have time to bang my head to much around this issue...
I was hoping to have a easy installation but Itunes Match seems to actually have this problem reocurring in many users... (on step 3 too)...
    Any good alternative solution ???

Hey everyone...I've been futzing with iTunes Match since the beta was released (I'm a developer) and every time I started iTunes Match it would lockup all my applications usually at Step 1 but sometimes at Step 2 (I could move between them but everyone was beachballing). I've tried for months to get iTunes Match working without result. I would close every app to give it maximum CPU and memory, repair permisions and every other Snake Oil remedy I could think of, without luck. Then today I had a breakthrough. Here's what I did and hopefully it helps someone else:
    1. Enable iTunes Match, let it run and lockup/stall/freeze at least once. Restart iTunes and go to iTunes Match in the left bar and click the "stop" button.
    2. Go back to your music library, right click on the column names at the top and add "iCloud Download" and "iCloud Status". You should see all your tracks as "Waiting...".
    3. Select a group of tracks (I do about 500 at a time), right click and chose "Add to iCloud"
    4. iTunes will whirl for a bit and with a bit of luck you'll see it actually processing and uploading/matching music.
    5. Repeat this for the rest of your library (increasing the number of tracks you selected if you're brave) and in no time you should be up and running on iCloud.
It's a bummer that the technology isn't better but at least I found a way to get it going.

  • Reactivate ITunes match on windows 8

Everytime I start my windows 8 System, I have to reactivate Itunes match to play my Music. It shows all songs but I am not able to play them. Up to now, I have no problems on my Windows 7 system.

You can use the iCloud Status and iCloud Download fields to determine which Song is causing iTunes Match to stall.  Post backup, temporarily removing such Songs will allow the process to complete.  Often converting the offending Songs to 256 kbps AAC with iTunes tools will allow you to 'match' or 'upload'.

  • Itunes match step 2

I'm having major issues trying to transfer my itunes my from my pc to my new imac.
tried migration assistant and couldnt find any of the files, tried direct copying and it couldnt seem to find any files upon playing, then via homeshare but not copied any metadata for the files, so finally thought i would give match a try. the problem now is that it keeps hanging on the same number 17315/17334 in step 2. tried reatarting a couple of times. turned off imatch, turned off and on genuis. nothing sees to work. getting realyy hacked off now. any ideas?

Whilst the solution certainly works, unless the Songs concerned are re-purchased from the iTunes Store attempts at recovering them cause the Step 2 stall to recur.
The issue appears still to be with the Apple infrastructure since even trying to restore a previously 'matched' Song causes the stall.
As an illustration, the example below shows a Song from Jet that had been successfully matched.  The 'get info' to  the left is that for the newly re-purchased Song, the 'get info' on the right is for the previously 'matched' Song.
    Example:
At present the previously 'matched' Song in the iCloud is shown as available for download, however, it is greyed out allowing neither download or play.  With the local version of the Song removed iTunes Match completes Step 2, attempting to restore the local file causes Step 2 to stall - this despite successfully playing the Song in iTunes in its originally 'matched' state earlier this morning.
Whilst we can use the solution to restore iTunes Match to working order at least for current and new Songs, it appears we will have to wait for a solution from Apple before existing Songs will complete the matching process.  All indications are that we will need to allow several days for the current high loading on the Apple infrastructure to ease.
