ITunes Match: Stuck in Step 1

I've seen some older posts on this subject, but I haven't seen a definative resolution or explanation.  So, I'm posting my own request.
I had iTunes Match over a year ago... then I cancelled to subscription.   Just yesterday, I decided to start iTunes Match again (I was without it for about 8 months).
I have an iMac which has about 9,000 songs in iTunes.  And a MacBook Air with about 250 songs.  iTunes v11.0.2 (25)  OSX 10.8.3
My concern is with my iMac and the 9,000 songs.
I start iTunes Match... "Add this computer".
It enters the Step 1 'Gathering' phase.   The progress bar starts...
THEN the process stops.   The 'STOP' button at the lower right turns to 'START'.
If I wait for a minute or so,   iTunes Match seems to start again still in Step 1,  the progress bar seems to get to about the same place, and hangs there until the process stops again.  Only to start again by itself a short time later.
This has been going on for HOURS!  It never seems to get any further on the progress bar.
ALSO, with my MBA, even with it's tiny database of 250 songs seemed to be trouble.  The process only took about an hour or so... still it STARTED and STOPPED the process maybe 50-75 times to get through... at least with the MBA I was able to see some movement of the progress bar during each renewed Matching session.
Is this enough information for someone to tell me what is happening?  Is this a 'Problem'?  Or is iTunes Match just taking super long to 'Gather' info.
HERE'S WHAT I'VE TRIED... only to get back to the same symptom above:
Rebuilt the iTunes Library.
Turned OFF Match, then turned ON Genius... THEN turned on Match
What I DIDN'T try was to create an entirely new iTunes Library and copy everything over.  I hope that is not the ONLY solution.
Thanks for any input on this subject!
- Craig

Hello Kelsoguy
If you are having an issue with iTunes Match, the first thing I would do is quit iTunes and turn off iTunes Match. Turn it back on and see if it starts it process again. If you still cannot get it to work, report the issue to iTunes.

  • ITunes Match stuck on step 1

I'm running iTunes 11.1.5 on OS X 10.9.2. I can't get pass the step one. I have about 20000 songs in my iTunes Library, it's about 180GB.
The status bar in step 1 has finished - but I'm now stuck with the message that it is still "Gathering information about your iTunes Library".
It's been like this for hours.

Hi - I have exactly the same problem,  but this didn't help me.
I'm trying to run iTunes Match and it simply stalls at stage 1. I believe I've tried the fixes listed in other places where this seems to have been an ongoing issue since launch - and not all of these work for the people there, either. These include removing stoping and starting Match, stopping and starting Genius, stopping and starting Genius and Match, moving the iTunes Library files and reimporting them as new libraries and so on. Nothing is working for me.
I run iTunes match and it matches "most" of my songs and then stalls. I've left it for days to see how long the stall is and it never clears.Over the last few days' stops and starts, it's matched as follows:
    13508 / 14010
    13535 / 14010
    13541 / 14010
    13998 / 14010
    13999 / 14010
    13966 / 14010
    14002 / 14010
    14007 / 14010
    13964 / 14010
    13348 / 14010
    14008 / 14010
    14003 / 14010
    14008 / 14010
    14001 / 14010
... you get the picture. iTunes frequently also can't access the iTunes Store or comes up with unknown errors. Anyone any ideas (please exclude the ones I've tried). As far as I can see, this service simply isn't ready for prime time.
As a background, this is an entirely new music library. I set up my Mac from scratch a few months ago with a new SSD. My music library had a lot of old files sampled at low bit rates - I was re-ripping to flac for my hifi, so I decided to re-rip to iTunes as well at the same time (my previous iTunes Match had lots of stuff it couldn't match, but was uploaded at a low bit rate since that was all that was available). My network connection is wired and I have very good broadband (cable) speed.
I also tried as you suggested, above - this did do one thing thing - changed the number of songs iTunes sees from 14010 to 13951, but it is still doing the same thing - stalling at around 10 songs or so shy of completing stage 1.

  • HT204406 itunes match stuck on Step 2!!

    Hi,
I-tunes match has suddenly started to play up today. It gets as far as 16033 of 16034 then gets stuck. I have tried a number of ideas from the support pages plus the obvious stuff, still nothing. It's pushing the tracks out to my devices but as it's not going in to step 3 none of the recent art work goes, Ahhhhh!
I am not great with coding, any easy routes to fix this? Are apple going to fix this. The only ineligible tracks in my library are music videos and they have always been there so have been ignore previously by match.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there
I was having this same issue after re-enabling iTunes Match despite it having worked previously.
It turned out to be a problem with some of the new tracks i'd added since the last time it was enabled. To locate them, I had to wait until the match process was on step 2 and got to the point where it stopped matching. It got to something like 9822 of 9870 songs.
In the songs view I then changed the visible fields to include the iCloud Status field, then sorted the songs by this field.
When I scrolled to the bottom there were the exact number of remaining songs sitting on the "Waiting" status. All of these were new additions. I removed them from the library and retried the match and it completed perfectly. I'm now re-adding the songs back into the library one album at a time to see if they will match now.
    Fingers crossed...

  • ITunes Match stuck at step 3

I subscribed to iTunes match 4 weeks ago and have been trying to match my music since, with no success.
iPad says not subscribed to iTunes match.  I'm getting tired of trying after 4 weeks of attempting to get it to work.
I called Apple support and spoke to someone at the Apple store, but no one knows anything about iTunes Match.  The support person told me it would take a long time to load the music files.  Is 4 weeks not long enough to upload files?
It is stuck at this step 3 for days, sometimes I see it restarting at step 1, but always stops at this step and never gets beyond 1 of xxxx items uploaded.
I tried two different libraries, multiple starts, stops, reboots and permissions repairs, but still the same results.  Can someone tell me why Itunes match doesn't work?  So far i have not found why.  It makes me feel like I'm back on my old PC running Windows.
    Thanks,
    Matt

I went into View, View Options and added iCloud Status column.
I sorted by that and deleted all the ERROR and Ineligible Protected songs.
I stopped iTunes Match from the Store menu, Exited iTunes, ran Repair Permissions From Disk Utilities.
Started iTunes and Turned on iTunes Match from the Store Menu
Then the songs that were left started making upload progress.
The upload stalled near te end of te last upload, so I had to stop and exit, then restart the iTunes Match and it finally uploaded all and was Done.
I still have the problem where my iPad, when I try to enable iTunes Match, states that I am Not Subscribed.
Can you help witih this?  I tried both Apple IDs.

  • ITunes Match stuck on Step 3

So I started setting up iTunes match yesterday, it took mopst of the afternoon completing steps 1 and 2. When I went to bed it was making slow progres on step three. Whe I woke up this morning it seemed stuck saying it had uploaded 361 of 6310 tracks. It has made no progress from there in the last hour. Any suggestions on what to do now?

I joined iTunes Match, 5 days ago, everything went well, the matching, the uploading, until I decided to turn off the computer; that was the single biggest mistake!!. Came back a few hours later and the uploading was stuck, took me 1 hour to upload 2 songs vs 4 hours to upload 450!!.
After reading endlessly in all the forums; I found out the following: It's not your connection, the software or how the songs are ripped or encoded, (believe me, I've tried EVERYTHING, now... never got an error message due to my itunes crashing or my mac). it's the iTunes Match servers fault!! sometimes you are lucky to connect to a fast one, sometimes you're not. So my advice is the following:
If you are stuck in a very slow upload process (unless, it's a very long song), you need to try again some other time, and don't waste electricity by keeping your computer on for days (like I did). I had mine once on for 24 hrs, and only 70 songs were uploaded (not worth it).  Basically: I tried a different times, and there was the last time I hit the jackpot (when I finished uploading ALL of my music), somehow I connected to a faster server, was uploading over 250 songs per hour, I just left the computer on, until it finished.
Now... by trying EVERYTHING I mean the following: resetting  my Internet connection a million times, I even increased the speed of with my Internet provider (comcast, blast feature), thinking it was my crappy upload speeds, which of course, didn't help. I created special playlist (like some of forums recommend), to focus on the 'waiting' ones vs the ones that are ineligible, but again, it didn't help, all ********!! I tried converting a lot of my music to iTunes ACC standards, and never noticed a difference, some old MP3 files were uploading at the same speed of ACC ones, so that has nothing to do (in my experience).
NOW... I recommend you do the following before you join the Match...
Clean your Music, by cleaning, I recommend you get software to help you with the missing info of the songs, I spent some money and got TuneUp, and that helped me get rid of over 600 songs and cleaned around 4K of my music collection (I have ~12K). Although it wasn't the best software out there, it worked fine with me.
Interesting fact: when you rip your CDs with iTunes, in some cases, info is missing, so using some software to recognize and fill that info, helps a lot, and the match works better.
Get rid of duplicate songs, iTunes does a good job, but other software can help you with that too (see above), also remember to keep the ones with the higher bit rate.
I noticed that some songs showed the "ineligible" sign, don't worry, try some other time by selecting them, and then click 'match on the icloud' and they will change to "waiting". I think it's a server problem, and it's all about speed.
At the end I end up with ~2K songs that needed to be upload to the cloud, (I was a little surprised, because it was a mix of mp3, acc and even songs that I bought in iTunes that didn't match). I lived in 2 different countries (with two different languages), and iTunes match was able to find most of my music.
So at the END my two cents are: try connecting at different times, doesn't matter that iTunes gets stuck doing the 3 steps over and over again, you'll connect to a faster server somehow, for me, the day I hit the jackpot was on a Monday around noon, suddenly the uploading speed went up to the roof!!.
have a good upload speed day soon!!, may the faster servers be with you !!
    pace!

  • ITunes Match stuck in step 3 - but not uploading at all

My iTunes Match is stuck in step 3 with exactly 2711 songs left, and in iTunes it has the swirling busy marks next to "iTunes Match," "My iPad," and "Genius Mixes."
I cannot access the iTunes Store. I cannot update my apps. It will not show our other iPad or iPhone on the menu even if we plug them in.
Basically, iTunes is stuck in an endless loop on Match, with no progress over 48 hours, and is preventing us from doing anything else.
I've looked through the web and this discussion board, and other solutions are not working. In fact, I cannot even "turn off iTunes Match" because the button is grayed out. Force closing iTunes, restarting the computer - none of these things work.

I thought my email from Apple would amuse, in it they imply I was unable to make it work. Not them. Note no apology whatsoever - it would imply guilt.
They also threatened me with an effective year long ban if I get my money back. Here's the email:
    Hello David,
I understand that you haven't been able to get Match working, so you'd like to see about receiving a refund. I can imagine you must be eager to get this sorted out. Edna wanted to make sure this gets resolved, so your case was escalated to me. My name is Adam and I'm an iTunes store senior advisor.
Please keep in mind that if you cancel your iTunes Match subscription, you will no longer have access the Match features. In addition, if you receive a refund, you will not be able to subscribe to iTunes Match again until a year from the refund date.
If you would still like to cancel, just reply to this email with the billing address and the last four digits of the credit card on the account. Upon receiving your response, Apple will verify your information, cancel your iTunes Match subscription and issue you a full refund. You will receive an email confirmation in regards to any refund.
I'm looking forward to your reply and the chance to get this taken care of for you. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.
    Sincerely,
    Adam

  • ITunes match stuck on step 3, '1 of ...' forever!

I've been playing with this iTunes match fr three days now. I've stopped and started it 3 or 4 times, everytime because iTunes crashes. I started it once again this morning before work. When I got home it was stuck on 1 of 5400. All day! So I stopped it. Closed iTunes. Opened iTunes back up and started iTunes match again it's now 3 hours later and is still on step 3, 1 of 5400. What's up?!?

I had this problem too, and you've done all the right things.
After going all the way up the support chain with no success, I ultimately got it resolved very simply: by getting Apple's iTunes Store team to cancel the Match subscription and issue a refund so that I could purchase and start Match again from scratch.
When you do this, wait until your iTunes account shows the credit before purchasing and running Match again (just to be sure the entire cancellation process on the Apple side has completed).
It's so awesome to have it working perfectly.

  • ITunes Match stuck at Step 1 for hours

I just signed up for iTunes match and it has been stuck on Step 1 for hours. It analyzed all the music and the lower blue progress bar is full blue, but the top iTunes progress bar is just candy cane stripes and stuck on "Sending information to Apple..."
My music library is about 80 gigs. I'm on OS X Lion. Airport Extreme router. Plenty of bandwidth on my cable modem plan. Anyone experience this before? Any solutions, or are Apple's servers on the fritz? From the looks of previous posts, seems like a lot of people have problems with the Match process...

I had a lot of issues uploading my library with itunes match on Lion and it got worse after I upgraded to Mountain Lion OSX. I was stuck on Step 1 for hours...  I called applecare, they were troubleshooting with me for a bit until I found a fix.
Here's a few fixes if you are stuck on step 1,2 or 3 in iTunes Match:
One I've seen before but didn't quite work for me:
    1. Click "Stop" on Itunes Match
    2. Go to "Store" > Turn Off iTunes Match
    3. Then  DeAuthorize This Computer
    4. Then  Authorize thie Computer
    5. Then Turn on iTunes Match
    6. Click "Add This computer" again and see if these steps go any faster.
They also suggested pressing Option while turning on iTunes Match but that just slowed things down further for me.
What actually worked for me was to connect DIRECTLY to the internet with an ethernet cable. I have a Macbook AIr with no ethernet so I had to buy a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter.
That made Step 1 and 2 go by in a few minutes, and Step 3 is going to take a day to upload the remaining 1700 songs I have in my library. I guess because we're connecting to "the cloud" on Apple's Server via wifi its terribly slow. Best to connect your computer  through ethernet for this process.
Hope this works for anyone out there!

  • ITunes Match stuck on Step 2 (new subscription)

    Hello.
This is a new match subscription, I've been uploading songs for 3 days now.
Just when there were some 100 or so song to be uploaded, the process stalled and never continued.
    I use windows 8.1.
I tried restarting the PC and tried again to re-start the process it gets stuck on step 2 (13,292 of 13,293 Songs Checked). I also tried restarting the router. All songs checked the first time I ran it.
How do I know what song is the one messing up with the process?
There are some files with "Wating" status, others "Ineligible" and others "Duplicate"
I don't want to delete my library and add it again, what should I do to make this work again and finish the whole process?
    Wilfredo.

Now, playlists that were working on icloud yesterday now says it contains other media that are not audio.
Thing is those playlists only contain audio. What's going on?
Can someone please help me with these issues?

  • ITunes Match stuck in Step 3.  Runs constantly.

First, iTunes Match runs and reruns on my computer constantly.  I'm not talking about "updating," which happens as soon as I add a new song to my library, I'm talking about a full scan of my entire library.  Then in the third step iTunes Match returns an error message saying there was an error with the iTunes Store. Also, a huge number of my songs are marked as "waiting," and never get matched or uploaded.
iTunes Match seemed to work perfectly until this past month.  I have no idea what happened.

Jim and Mr. Cole, thanks.  Following the process you both described I discovered that many of the "waiting" tracks were tracks where the link to the actual song file in the library was broken; I reimported those songs and deleted the "waiting" entry (now a duplicate).
Some of these "waiting" entries referred to files that did not exist -- somewhere along the line something happened to them.  My iTunes library is pretty old and has been through many iterations among many desktop computers over the years.
Some of the "waiting" tracks turned out to be duplicates of songs that had already been properly matched and uploaded; I deleted those entries as well.  (I also had many "error" entries which were all duplicates of other songs that had been properly uploaded, matched, or deemed ineligible -- don't know why those weren't marked as duplicates, but I deleted those as well.)
So it turns out that all of the problems with iTunes Match stemmed from irregularities in my library -- none of which iTunes Match caused.
It should be noted that I marked Mr. Cole's answer as having solved my question, when in fact Jim had already suggested the same thing -- I just had not followed through on his advice properly.  (I thought that last entry was Jim's when I clicked the "solved my question" button.)
Thanks to you both.  I should have discovered the problem with my iTunes library sturcture earlier, but these libraries are now so enormous that it is sometimes hard to track down the precise problem with the file structure.

    Hello Kelsoguy
If you are having an issue with iTunes Match, the first thing I would do is quit iTunes and turn off iTunes Match. Turn it back on and see if it starts it process again. If you still cannot get it to work, report the issue to iTunes.

  • Itunes match stopped in step 2 3188 of 4525 checked. how do i recover?

itunes match stopped in step 2 3188 of 4525 checked. how do i recover?

You've tried tapping on the Collections button at the top of the bookshelf to see if they are in a different collection ? If not then do you have a copy of them in the Books part of your computer's iTunes library (though PDFs aren't iTunes purchases, if you've done 'transfer purchases' whilst they were on the iPad then they should have copied over) ?
ibooks and PDFs aren't included in a device's backup, so if they aren't in your computer's iTunes library and/or you don't have your own backup copy of them then they won't be on your computer (for info there isn't an iBooks app/program for a Mac or PC).

  • ITunes Match stuck....

Itunes Match stuck on "waiting for apple to deliver your iTunes Match results" any ideas as i cannot get access to my music on my macbook pro. Using iTunes 11. Match is working fine on my iPhone and on my iPad

iTunes Match on Mountain Lion doesn't work on my 2012 MacBook Pro. I had Lion before, and iTunes Match worked fine. Now it disconnects and back every few seconds. I tried resetting cache, iTunes, turning on/off match, but nothing works. Now what?

  • ITunes Match stops after step 3

    Hi,
I am not able to finish the iTunes Match workflow. Step 1 & 2 are going through successfully, but when it comes to step 3 (loading graphics and songs) it sometime is loading a few articles and then stops. The button on the bottom right corner change to "Start". when I start it again it shows the same behavior and I am not able to finishing the process.
Any help or hints would be highly appreciate
    Johannes

I am having the same problem. I have 6000 songs that are waiting to be uploaded (they are all unprotected 256kbps AAC files). When iTunes Match reaches step 3, it seems to upload 1 or 2 songs and then stops. Sometimes it doesn't upload anything. What is going on?

  • Itunes crashes when iTunes Match runs its Step 3 (not before) - any ideas why and how to fix it?

Every time iTunes runs the iTunes Match, when iTunes MAtch gets to Step 3 - iTunes stops working - ie crashes. Any idea why and how to fix it? The songs are still uploaded to iCloud etc... but it crashe iTunes every single time

I cannot explain the failure, but I can tell you that I have a string of approx. 24 emails with Apple and a combined 10hrs of talk time with Apple customer reps that tried helping me precisely for the issue that iTunes Match would crash at Step 3 without fail. Apple even logged my Console and I was talking to an engineer that literally wrote part of the code for iTunes Match (that was the fourth and last level of customer care I was escalated to). The poor man almost quite his job, and I just about demanded a refund for my $25, since iTunes Match simply wasn't working.
Then I studied at a friend's place, and I noticed that all of a sudden, while iTunes was running in the background, half my library was already uploaded and things were progressing smoothly. It turns out that it had something to do with my modem specifically, as I had already hooked up my computer straight to the modem, taking the router (TimeCapsule) out of the equation. Nothing worked. Firewalls were turned off, no AntiVirus existed, and Apple engineers tried everything possible, incl. remote access on my computer, to get this to work. Nothing worked as long as I was connected to a Motorola Surboard.
At every other network, wether at Starbucks, my university, or at friends places, however, iTunes Match worked flawlessly.
After some research online, it turnes out that a handful of people with Motorola Surrboard Xtreme cable modems had similar issues. Eversince, I simply use my neighbors wifi should I need to upload songs, and I have no issues. Oddly enough, matching (not uploading) works just fine with my Motorola.
Don't ask me how or why, I am interested in computers and work with them a lot, but I am no engineer. I can tell you that simple scientific method pinpointed to the modem, and I haven't had issues since then.
