ITunes Match unresponsive

Since downloading the latest update and turning on iTunes Match, I can't run iTunes from my Mac. My iPhone, iPad and even my work PC all run iTunes Match, but my Mac will become unresponsive everytime I open the program and just show me a pinwheel. Any help?

Hey Spencer -
For what it's worth, I'm having the same issue. I immediately experienced long periods of unresponsiveness on my iTunes and after troubleshooting and isolating everything I could think of, I discovered it was the constant queueing and checking-for-updates that iTunes Match does. I finally just split my library into two files - one, which has all my local music that I keep along with TV/Movies/Podcasts/Books/Apps and does all my iTunes syncing and streaming to Apple TVs (which is why this particular library is always running), and the other, which I only use when I need to add/change something related to iTunes Match (like when I'm ready to buy new music, or when I'm ready to import a CD, etc). That way, I only have to deal with this issue when I'm dealing specifically with music, which fortunately for me (and probably less for many others) is not very often.
If you'd like to do what I am doing, just turn off iTunes Match in your primary library (this will keep your main library from freezing all the time). Exit iTunes, then hold the Option key and click iTunes again; it will then prompt you to create a new library. You can create it and save it somewhere else (and append it to say iTunes [Match] or something so it's easy to distinguish between the libraries), and then turn iTunes Match on in that library.
I am Apple-certified and work as a Network Engineer and even I was only able to identify the problem; I have my own thread about this elsewhere on the support group and I have yet to find any resolution. I've tried rebuilding / repairing the library, creating it from scratch, and even testing it on other Macs. I have the same issue on any Mac on which I enable iTunes Match.
I have seen that this isn't the case (noticably, anyway) on smaller libraries, as the checking-for-updates time takes less so there's no freezing.
One more useful bit: I had similar freezing/unresponsive issues with this when the Genius feature was unveiling in iTunes. To fix it then, I was able to just turn Genius off. With the iTunes Match function though, it appears that Genius is part of its system and has to be enabled to allow iTunes Match. This means your database is constantly sending information to iTunes to help match/recommend/build mixes for you, and that seems to be what's causing the issue. So while it's an "iTunes Match" issue, the root of the issue is something to do with Genius mode.
Sorry for the long reply. I've spent a lot of time on this and I just thought I'd share what I've uncovered about it so far.
PS - I'm in OKC, so we're not far if your handle is related to Oklahoma. So there's that :-)

  • ITunes Match - Step 2 creates Unresponsive iTunes

I have read multiple threads about this issue, but I am hoping someone can give me the newest solution or work-around to fix my problem.
I am trying to upload my iTunes library (9020 songs) to iTunes Match.  When it gets to Step Two, it freezes around 8,684 songs of 8708 that are found to be matched.  I continue to let the beachball spin, assuming it was still scanning, even if the application was unresponsive, but, it never moves to Step 3.
I have tried every suggestion seen in previous posts.  I have started with updating the Genius Match.  I have disabled/reenabled the internet connection.  Starting in Safe Mode.  Nothing gets me past Step 2.  I have also reviewed all the potential 'questionable' songs (audiobooks, mpeg files, low quality, etc) and tried to remove and restarting the Match process.  Same results.
I have to Force Quit iTunes, restart, immediately turn off iTunes Match (because it will start scanning as it launches and subsequently freeze again) and then Turn On iTunes Match again.  But, again, it locks up so close to the end of Step 2.
Does anyone have a way to fix this problem?
    Thank you!
    KC3Dogs

How long are you waiting between force quits? Step 2 can take several days to complete. The matching of my library with 22000 songs took more than two weeks. Let the match run over night without interrupting. It will depend on how busy the iTunes Store is. When everybody has just updated iTunes, it is not a good time to start matching a new library.
You seem to have tried really all things that can help to ensure that the match is successful. You have not mentioned your Energy Saver settings. To prevent timeouts, set the Energy Saver so, that the mac will not fall asleep during the matching.

  • ITunes Match reboots my computer

    First, the technical specs:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac13,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed: 3.4 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 4
    Memory: 32 GB
    Boot ROM Version: IM131.010A.B05
    OS: Yosemite 10.10.3
    iTunes: 12.1.2.27
My iTunes library is located on an external LaCie 3TB Thunderbolt drive.
For some time I've been trying to determine why I could not get iTunes Match to work properly when syncing with my iOS devices (an iPhone 5 and iPad 2 (maybe). Both are on iOS 8.3. After much poking and prodding, I realized that the issue was due to my having over 35,000 songs in iTunes. I spent a lot of time paring down my library until I got down to about 24,000 songs (this includes the 200 or so purchases on my Apple ID, so I should now have plenty of buffer).
I also wiped out the iTunes Match data from prior syncs by clearing out my library then deleting the songs that iTunes indicated were up on Match. I wanted a fresh sync of data.
However, every time I try to launch iTunes Match, whenever I get about a third of the way through Step 1, my Mac reboots. It appears as if Yosemite freezes, but instead of the grey screen of death, the computer just reboots. I've tried looking for crash logs, but there is nothing I can find. Even though I am not an expert by any means, I can usually find the crash log or even the entry in some log somewhere I can grab a screen cap of to send to the more tech savvy. But right now it looks like nothing's getting recorded and Yosemite is treating the reboot as just that: a reboot.
In my attempts to troubleshoot, I have reinstalled Yosemite, reinstalled iTunes, deleted and rebuilt my iTunes library database. I've run Disk First Aid on both my boot drive (through recovery mode) and my Thunderbolt drive. I've even re-imported every song, twice, and culled any file that caused an issue on import. I've scoured my collection for not only absolute duplicates, but also, when the choice came between a song contained in a full album and a song in a partial album, I deleted the partial album's file.
At this point, I've run out of ideas on troubleshooting. Well, maybe not quite. The only variable I did not check out was the presence of my husband's purchased music. Ideally it should be ok, since we linked our accounts (through the family feature). Yet this was a newer feature and this is the first time I've tried to re-sync iTunes Match from scratch since the Family feature went live.
In any event, any suggestions or advice would be most welcome. I rather enjoyed iTunes Match, and am loathe to give it up. Yet I can't see paying for a service that won't work. If you need to look at logs, I'll be happy to provide. Key words to look for would help greatly.
    Thank you.
Edit: I also repaired permissions as part of my troubleshooting.
Edit: I removed all purchased music. I also deauthorized and reauthorized my iMac and logged out of and back into my account (I only have one account). iTunes Match still stalls about ⅓ of the way in to Stage 1. I stopped iTunes Match from processing right now.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
When you post the log extract or the crash report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

    Hi judysings
    Thanks for your help.
I tried to follow for each topic from your link. Actually it doesn't contain any topic about uploading issue.
After I turn on my iTunes Match again, the same problem appears. My iTunes hang again after iTunes Match status bar updating in a while.
Before I turned on, I've check and never seen any duplicated except from different albums.
Actually, this problem happened since a few days ago that iTunes down for the whole world area. So, my iTunes database most likely the same even before and after it down. My one seems not fully recovered.
    Anyway. Thank you very much

  • ITUNES MATCH NOT WORKING AT ALL AFTER LAST ITUNES UPDATE

So I updated I tunes to 11.2.2 and now guess what ? Itunes Mtach fails to start at all. To add salt into wounds Apple have just taken my renewal fee. Ituned Match when it works is great (which is very rare!!) but now it is not even working at all .. Why??? Anyone???

  • Why isn't iTunes able to access iTunes Match?

After activating iTunes match on my work laptop it seems to pass all 3 steps fine...but then it does not make any of my songs appear. The little cloud icon keeps scrolling inside but nothing....even after 12 hours.
Would love to get this working.

Ok so an update, after loads of tries to get this to work I have noticed a few things that always occur.
    1. All 3 steps pass every time and I get the "Your music is now available in the cloud" with the 'done' button.
2.Once it says done I get a barber-shop cloud icon next to the music dropdown, which will freeze after about 10 secs and crash iTunes.
    3. Once I reopen iTunes I have the dreaded lightning symbol in the cloud icon which when clicked will barber-scroll forever.
Once, I have no idea how, I managed to get my library to display as grey text...needless to say that the lightning icon was still there and the music was unresponsive, when I tried to sign out of match iTunes crashed once again. Match is working fine on my phone / tablet connected on the same network.
Before I sign into match, but have signed into the store (after fresh iTunes install) my purchased (from iTunes) music appears and plays instantly. Unfortunately, this would be a very small fraction of my library.
Why am I crashing and why will match not work as intedned?

  • Use one account for apps and other for itunes match

    Hello everybody
My question today is quite simple. I use one account for apps and tv shows, but inwant to use a different itunes account for purchasing itunes match. How can I use them both on my devices? Will it be asking for my user-pass each time i play a song? What other thing should i consider?
    Thank you in advance

I would strongly recommend you not do this.  You will regret it.
I have played with this issue a lot.  You have to remain signed into match in order for it to show up on your phone. If you sign out to purchase an app or redownload one from your appstore id you use then match will be removed from your phone and when you go into your music app the icloud will not be there.  You then have to go sign back out of the store id you used for your app purchase and then sign back into match and everything will have to go though the download to your device process again.  This really is not what you want to do.
Sign up to match with the apple id that you know you will use the most or has the most purchased items and use that for all purchases, i.e. books, apps, movies, and music.  You don't want to go though the other process.
Plus apple will start not letting you sign into match because you signed out and back in, in to short a period of time.
all store purchases on an iphone are linked to the store id.  if you sign out of your match id on the appstore and sign into another account to purchase an app then itunes match will sign out in the music app.  You can't have two store id's signed into your iphone at the same time.  They are all linked together.

  • How can 2 family members who share an iTunes library both use iTunes match?

My wife and I both share an iTunes library on the same Macbook and both sync our phones to that computer. We each have our own Apple ID and we use a 3rd account for iCloud for Photostream. In ios5 we were able to both access the music library on our iPhones via iTunes match while signed in under our unique IDs. Now, it will only let one ID access the music on the phones.  How can I get it to work like it used to, where we can both access the music while both continuing to be logged in under our own IDs on our own phones?

I am taking this slowly so I have not added my iTunes music to the new laptop yet until I figure out how to make it work. But I have just downloaded a digital copy of The Dark Knight and when I log on to my girlfriends user and open iTunes, the video is not there. When I log back into my user and connect her iPhone to iTunes, I am not allowed to drop in the movie. That is where I am at. I need to be able to add my stuff to her iPhone and her stuff to my iPhone without syncing and losing all info.

  • Itunes match has removed my playlists from itunes and my iphone. Not only that, many of the songs 'matched' on itunes do not show up on my iphone. Seriously annoyed, wish I'd never paid for it

Please read the title; itunes match has removed my playlists on itunes and iphone and the songs that are supposedly 'matched' on itunes are not showing up on my iphone.
    Any Really annoyed about this

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.

  • Itunes match  how do you to select multiple songs or do you click each one

In ITunes match  how do you to select multiple songs to download to pc or do you have to click each one.

First make sure you have the current version of iTunes, which is actually 10.5.1.  I had to manually download it from apples website, for some reason, it wouldnt auto-update.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Once that is complete, go to the iTunes store. In the Quick Links secion to the right, you should see iTunes Match. This will prompt you to activate your subscription to iTunes match.  After that it should ask you to add your computer and once youve done that, it should begin the process of scanning your library and adding it to the cloud
Alternatively, once you activate your subscription, you can also go to the Store dropdown menu in iTunes and select Turn On iTunes Match.

  • How do you move an iphone from one mac to a new mac when both are using Itunes Match

I have an Imac (Mountain Lion) with two users sharing an Itunes account (Ver 11).  We each have iphones syncing to the computer (and to icloud separatly). I have just activated Itunes match on the IMac and on both phones.  I just bought a new MacBookPro and have activated Itunes match on it so I am sharing Itunes. Now, I want to move one of the iphones to the new MacBook and have it backing up to that computer instead of the Imac.  How should I proceed with synching the phone with the new computer?  How about the photos on the iphone?  Will they just load into the iphoto library on my new MacBook Pro.
Also, can I still synch the phones manually and move over playlist from Itunes to the phone?  I am assuming that when you turn off itunes match on the phone those playlists will be active.  I want to make sure that say, when I am on a plane or have no wifi or cell, that I can still use the phone as an Ipod.  With Itunes match you are streaming and always need a signal.  There has to be a way to retain the simple music player functionality, right?

There's too much above for me to specifically answer your questions, but I'll assume from the title that you're basically trying to sync to a new computer.  So here are some articles to help you.

  • How can an iTunes Match user prevent songs from being uploaded to the iCloud?

Has anyone who is currently using iTunes Match found a way to prevent selected songs in their music library from being uploaded to the iCloud. I have a number of audio files that are hour long mixes, but aren't quite large enough to run afoul of the 200MB size limit. I'd like to keep using iTunes Match, but would like to prevent it from trying to upload any of these larger files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Another oddity I just discovered is that if I turn on wifi hotspot on my phone and connect my iMac to my phone's 3G service then iTunes on my iMac will stream music just fine from iTunes match (yes, the music was only in the cloud, not on my drive).
I've tried everything I can think of to get iTunes Match to play tracks over cellular.. including totally deauthorizing all my computers and devices, totally removing all tracks my itunes match in the cloud and re-scanning/uploading everything. Purchased new tracks, and they won't play unless they are downloaded. But they will play just fine when previeing them for purchase in iTunes app.

  • How can download all the songs from itunes match to an ipad 2?

I activate itunes match in my Imac, the process of scan and identify the library songs is finished successfully, after that i activate the itunes match in my ipad,  I need download all the songs in the ipad, I select Music Icon and don't appear the (download all) button in the section of songs,  i have to push the cloud button in each song to download?
I enter in the section of albums and playlist and in this section the button download all appears. How can i download all the songs to the device?

I just found the answer by myself.  Instead of clicking Cloud icon one by one, highlight all the songs in Cloud (after sorting by Cloud status) and riight click, download.  Now I am getting all the songs back to my local machine.  I will sync my iOS devices tomorrow and just GET RID OF iTUNES MATCH.  To me, it was a disaster.  Worse than their map app.

  • Can I use iTunes Match for 2 iPhones with different music, same account?

My wife and I each have an iPhone and share an iTunes account.  We share a master music library but each manually manage our music on our iPhones.  So she has certain songs on her phone and I have different ones on mine, both coming from the same master library.  I'm trying to figure out if I can use iTunes Match in this scenario.  I don't want to see her songs on my iPhone.  Is there a way to only see music on my iPhone if I use Match or am I stuck seeing my entire library on my iPhone?

I think I'm getting it finally, thanks for the clarification.  So at least I know there is a way to not see all music in my library from my iPhone.
So in my case i have about 800 songs on my iPhone out of about 1600 on my iTunes library.  If I'm understanding correctly I would have to enable Match on my iPhone, then turn off the "show all music" option.  This in turn should leave me with my original 800 songs listed which I woud then have to download from the cloud.  Once I have all of my 800 songs back down from the cloud I won't be required to download them again from that phone.
A worse scenario would be that I enable Match, and then have to find my 800 songs out of the total 1600 manually from the list and then download them from the cloud.
    Which scenario is correct?

  • ITunes Match Unable To Get Past "Waiting for Apple to deliver your iTunes Match results..."

Been trying for days but it just gets to "Waiting for Apple to deliver your iTunes Match results..." and then stops and allows me to press the Start button again to start the match process.  Sometimes I get error -3231.
I've called Apple and they want $19 to solve the issue even though I paid the $25 for Match.
I've turned iTunes Match off.  Turned Genius off.  Logged out of my iTunes account.  Quit iTunes.  Restarted. Logged back into iTunes account.  Turn Genius on.  Turn iTunes Match back on and let it go through the process again with no success.
My library has a couple hundred songs less than the 25,000 max but it is pretty large.  Had the same issue when I tried with a smaller library some time ago.  I've created a new library and have the same issue.

    Hi,
You should consider rebooting your internet router
Then try holding option key whilst turning off match. Close iTunes and then reopen. Turn on iTunes Match and select add this computer.
