ITunes match wont locate my music?

Ive had iTunes match for a while now. today i decided to tidy up my macbook and delete all my music (as its in the cloud). so when i done this i went into itunes and most of my music has a little locate icon next to it i tried to play it and i asked me to locate the file (which i deleted) so i pressed cancel and it started playing. (through the cloud i assume). my query is do i have to do this individually for each song? as i have thousands it would be very annoying and time consuming.
Any one have any ideas??
Thanks

Hi,
Yes, this was the wrong way to delete music. You should have deleted it from your iTunes library. Have you backed up your music files to an external drive? itunes is looking for the original file but is not finding it because the file is not there.
If you had deleted the tracks using iTunes, you would have received a pop up asking if you wanted to remove file from cloud or not, then another asking if you wish to keep file or move to trash.
What you need to do is now delete the track from iTunes library. You will get option to remove from cloud or not - you should leave this uncheck. As the file has already been delete, you will not get the next pop up. You will now see each track with a download cloud icon. You will now be able to stream or redownload if required.
By the way read this user tip Do not install MacKeeper

  • Can I have iTunes Match recognize that the Music is on my Hard Drive?

My PC (Windows 8.1) computer hard drive crashed.  My old computer was using an iTunes media file on an external hard drive so I still have that, but I also subscribe to iTunes Match.  After replacing my old internal hard drive, I went to set up iTunes, and I changed the iTunes media folder location so it would use the one on my external hard drive.  However, once I turned on iTunes Match, all of the music still shows up as being in the Cloud.   I can't figure out how to have it recognize that my music is already on that external hard drive.  It just wants me to download everything from the Cloud.   I have tons of music, and it would take days to download everything.  Is there a way to associate it with my previous library on the external  hard drive?

CHRISRMOR:  With iTunes match, as long as you uploaded all of your songs to begin with, the music should be there when you open a new iTunes on your new hard drive.  You will just have to download it all from the cloud.  If you use iTunes match on other devices, you  can download any or all of your songs from the cloud too.  So to answer your question, yes, you are correct.  When you download iTunes onto your new hard drive, authorize the computer and turn on iTunes Match and update it, then all of your songs should be there.  There is a symbol of a cloud with an arrow pointing downward that will show that it is in the cloud.  If you right-click on that symbol you can download an individual song.  Or if you select all or a group  of songs, you can download all of them with a right-click.

  • ITunes Match for the iMac - Music Files on an iPod?

I subscribe to iTunes Match and have an iPod Classic 160GB. Is it possible to use iTunes Match for my entire music library on my iMac & iPhone BUT put the actual song files on my iPod Classic? The problem is my music library is large, won't fit on my iMac Flash hard drive and iTunes Match is perfect. But I can't figure out how to get those songs onto my iPod Classic because iTunes Match is enabled on iTunes.
I would like to keep my iTunes library on the iMac using Match and have the physical songs be on the iPod Classic.
I tested this by putting 1 album on the iMac hd. Then syncing the iPod. Then deleting it from iTunes (the cloud icon came back so Match is doing it's thing and I deleted the physical song files). Sync'd again but this time I checked Manually Manage Music & Videos in the iTunes iPod Settings window before hand, thinking that would tell iTunes to not worry that the 1 Who album wasn't physically on my h/d anymore. But it didn't work. It removed the that album from the iPod Classic.
Is this possible and I don't have the correct settings in iTunes or on the iPod? Or is this a limitation of using iTunes Match?

Hey thanks, Jim... Actually I do have a back up of my entire library on an external drive. Is the process just dragging the songs and albums from the Finder (from the external drive backup) onto the iPod when I plug it in to iTunes and they copy over? Is it possible to create new or update existing Playlists with this method? But is key is to never sync the iPod with iTunes or do I need to check Manually Manage Music & Videos?
Or am I looking at this completely wrong. lol

  • I subscibed to ITunes Match and all my music has disappeared from my Ipod touch and will only play through WiFi so I cannot play music in my car. How do I get it back please

I subscibed to ITunes Match and all my music has disappeared from my Ipod touch and will only play through WiFi so I cannot play music in my car. How do I get it back please

You'll need to switch off iTunes Match on the device & sync the iPod with iTunes as hopefully you've kept all your music on your PC.

  • I downloaded music from iTunes onto my iPad. I enabled iTunes Match on my PC (where most of my music is stored). When I turned on iTunes Match on iPad it said the iPad music library would be replaced. How do I use iTunes Match without losing  iPad music.

I bought music from iTunes and downloaded it to my iPad. I have enabled iTunes Match on my PC (where most of my music is stored). When I turned on iTunes Match on iPad it said "iTunes Match will replace the music library" on my iPad. All of my iPad music is saved on iCloud, and some of my PC music is on iCloud. If I use iTunes Match will the music previously downloaded on my iPad be lost?
    Thanks!!

You need to either sync the iPad with iTunes so it will transfer the purchases to the iTunes library or download them from the purchase history. Then let iTM work on the "new" tracks in the library then all the music will be available on the iPad.

  • Should Itunes Match be deleting the music on my iphone and IPAD

Still trying to get this figured out.  I'm almost certain that yesterday, when I first did Itunes Match, that all the music that was already on the Iphone and Ipad was not deleted (despite the warning to the contrary) when I toggled the Itunes Match switch on both.
I'm almost certain that yesterday, even after turning Itunes Match had been turned on, the music was not deleted and as new songs were added (ie CDs ripped)they showed up on both devices with the cloud Icon.
That is consistent with what I read here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1163607/toggle_between_itunes_match_and_local_sy ncing.html
However, today, I re-downloaded some music after getting the higher quality versions with Itunes on my Mac.  I turned Itunes Match off on both my Iphone and IPad, thinking I would do a quick manual sync to the Mac, get all the songs put on each and then turn Itunes Match back on both.
I did so, but when I turned Itunes Match back on each, Itunes Match deleted all of my music, replacing all songs with the cloud icon now forcing me to redownload everything.  That seems inconsistent with what happened yesterday and is also inconsistent with the article above which seems to indicate that Itunes Match should be smart enough to realize the songs it doesn't need to delete.
Is the above article and my experience wrong?
    Thanks for the help!

What you are experiencing is normal. As soon as you turn on iTunes Match, it should wipe out all your songs that were manually put on your device and you will have to redownload. Its idiotic to me, but that is the way it is supposed to work. People have stated they sometimes fool the process, but it is supposed to remove them all.
Hope this helps. Down the road I wish they made it so you could do both, icloud and manual sync.

  • ITunes Match wont work in Israel

like other people noticed before me, itunes match wont work in israel, and no one replyed yet with an official answer.
can we know why it isnt working?

No one could possibly know the answer to your question unless Apple announces.
No one has access to any information that you do not.
If Apple has not announced, then no one would know.

  • Itunes match wont work, music never shows on my iphone.

i recently purchased itunes match, and it never fully uploads my music from my computer. it gets about 95% though the process, errors out, and makes me sign out, and back in to retry. it also states that over 5,000 songs are "now available" yet they never show on my iphone... any ideas?

If you delete the music from the iPhone, yes. But perhaps you should be looking at what else is taking of storage on the iPhone, back it up, and delete those things as well.

  • Will iTunes Match work if my music is stored on an external hard drive and not in my mac's iTunes Library?

Since my music takes up a lot of space, I've moved my entire iTunes Library to an external hard drive. If I subscribe to iTunes Match, can I upload the music from my external hd or does it need to actually be in my iTunes Library?

    Crawdaddy wrote:
I'm wondering if, AFTER uploading all my music to iCloud Match, will I need to have the external hard drive connected in order to access music from iCloud while in iTunes?
iTunes Match does not work this way. The location of your music in iTunes is not changed by iTM. If you needed the external HDD connected to play your music before you enabled iTM you will still need it connected after you enable HDD.
Now, if you wish to not have to have the extenal HDD connected, then you can create a new, empty library in iTunes by holding down the Option key while launching iTunes and enable iTM on that library. That will allow you to you stream your music in iTunes. You'll need to switch between the libraries to make changes to the metadata.

  • IOS 7, iTunes Match, and downloads to Music -- beware of your first use

I'll explain the situation in a moment. My question for the community is if someone saw a way to avoid this from happening.
I just encountered a perfect storm when I upgraded to ios 7. So far it has cost me $230 in excess data charges.
I am an iTunes Match subscriber.
Before the upgrade to ios 7, ios 6 had an option in Settings -> Music to tell it not to use cellular data. I had cellular data for Music disabled, so many times I'd download a playlist from Match down to my phone and would start this process at home on wifi, leave, and then it would complete later that day when I hit another wifi network.
When I upgraded to ios7, there were some changes in how to control access to cellular data:
    (1) Apple removed that control from the Settings -> Music UI
    (2) Apple added a menu option called Settings -> iTunes and App Store. In that UI< you have the option of turning iTunes Match on or off, and at the bottom you also have the option enabling cellular data. Just below that, it says "Use cellular data network for automatic downloads and iTunes Match." One of the first things I did after the upgrade, while still on wifi, was turn cellular data off in this UI.
    (3) Apple added a UI called Settings -> Cellular, and in there is a UI called "Use Cellular Data For:", and it gives you a list of apps where you can turn cellular on/off for each one individually. Right after the upgrade to ios 7, that list was very short. It didn't have Music or iTunes Match listed, only Mail, Passbook, and a few basic apps.
So after my upgrade, the only place that appeared to control downloads from iTunes Match was the menu in #2, which I had already used to disable cellular data for.
Since I had deleted all my music to make room for the upgrade, I picked a playlist that morning and told my phone to download it. It was about 1GB of music. Then I got on my bike and rode to work woth my phone buried in my bike bag. When I arrived at work, I had a series of text messages from my carrier that I had exceeded my data plan and was now getting charged .25/MB. I was at the very end of a billing month and at the start of my ride only had about 100MB left on my data plan.
    So what happened?
Well, as it turns out, the menu for Use Cellular Data For: in #3 above only lists apps once they've used cellular data (except maybe the obvious ones like Mail, Passbook, etc.). And for some bizarre reason, that download wasn't considered "iTunes Match" by ios 7, it was considered a download by the Music app in ios 7. So once I got to work and dug into this, I then found that Music was now listed in the Use Cellular Data For: dialog. So what happened was that I left the house, left wifi, and the phone kept downloading that big playlist on cellular and somewhere, probably right as I was screaming down the hill from my house, the Music app showed up on Use Cellular Data For:. I did some tests with other apps and they only appear on that list AFTER you've used cellular data for them.
Learning this with any other app, or at the beginning of a billing month, would not have been an issue, but my perfect storm of being almost tapped out on my data plan when I left my home wifi network killed me.
I have already contacted my carrier about this, although it's not their fault. I personally think it's Apple's fault for (a) creating a misleading UI for #2 above, and (b) for not listing "Music" in the list of apps in the Use Cellular Data For: dialog immediately after the upgrade.
Anyone else had this problem? If not, and you are an iTunes Match user who has just upgrade to ios 7, you can easily avoid this by downloading one song from cellular to get the Music app to appear in the Use Cellular Data For: list

I am also having problems with smart playlists on OS7 iphone 4s with mountain Lion on my mac
I have two smart playlists, one for music not played in 6 months, the other for zero plays, the other criteria for the lists are media type 'music' and track time ' less than 15 minutes.
These two playlists have 619 items and 108 items respectively in my mac but on the phone it shows 2962 items (for both lists) and a cloud symbol next to the track - although scrolling down, there are some tracks that do not have the cloud symbol - these look like the original 619 and 108 in the lists
Other smart playlists are fine and appear to be not affected

  • I have an iphone 6 with the most recent iOS.  iTunes Match is on.  Music app only showing songs purchased on iTunes and no playlists are displayed.  Just happened when updating iTunes Match.  Solutons?

I have an iPhone 6 with 64 GB of memory.  I have iTunes Match turned on my account and on the phone.  Suddenly, the Music app is only displaying music purchased directly from iTunes and no playlists are displayed.  This occurred after updating iTunes Match on my PC; when new music did not appear, I turned off iTunes Match off/on the PC then did the same on iPhone 6.  It looks like iTunes Match is trying to do a full download to the phone but it never completes.  Ideas?

  • ITunes match has destroyed my music library. Help!

So basically several years ago I bought an external hard drive to combat low storage space on my laptop, and moved all my iTunes files to there. However, the hard drive is broken, so most of my music could only actually be played on my iPod, the only songs I could play from my laptop were ones which had their files saved on to the laptop itself. I saw about itunes match and thought that would enable me to save songs from my iPod on to the cloud, thus allowing me to access all my songs from my laptop too. However, instead my ipod has now also lost all the songs that were saved to my hard drive, and only has the few songs I had saved to my iPod. So right now it seems I've paid £21 for the privilege of losing the vast majority of my music library. Is there anything I can do about this?
On a side note, this issue has made me realise how terrible and counter-intuitive apple tech support is.

Sorry to here about your problem. I'm afraid that there is nothing you can do to recover your lost music. Itunes match works by scanning your iTunes library on your computer not your ipod.
Possibly, you could see if you can get someone to recover the music from your ext hard drive.

  • ITunes match wont let me play my songs

I have iTunes match, so i am able to listen to all my music, where ever i am, on any device, without it taking up disk space.
That´s all fine and dandy...BUT every time i launch iTunes on my work computer (macbook pro retina, with mavericks, logged in to my Apple ID), all my songs a grayed out, and i am unable to play any songs. the only thing thats running is the little cloud icon next to "Music" in the sidebar.
The only thing that gets it going agine is when i turn off iTunes match, and then back on again. When i do this, everything works just fine.
This is beginning to be extremely annoying, can anybody help?

  • How do I get iTunes Match to upload my music library from my external hard drive?  It only got some of the music and not a lot of it at that.

I'm trying iTunes Match and not having a great time of it so far.  It only got a fraction of my music from my music library.  I contacted support and they told me that it would recognize my external hard drive and take all of the music.  My collection is all from CDs with the exception of a few from iTunes.  I just want more of my collection to be available.
    Can anyone help with that

The issue is not related to the external drive. iTunes Match has difficulties matching tracks ripped fom CDs because they may differ slightly from the versions on sale in iTunes. You can try the match again. Otherwise do a search of this forum. There are already many discussions on this subject here that may help you.

  • ITunes match and my household music library

I'm looking for ideas / tips here, as to what other people do.
My family shares the music library on 1 MB Pro. So there are a lot of songs in the music library that 1 person might like, but the rest do not. But I notice that all the music library's songs are now on my iPhone via the cloud. So when I shuffle, I'm getting all the songs from the music library to play, including those of my 7-tr old girl, ha.
Prior to signing up for iTunes match I only had on my iphone the 600 or so songs that I really enjoyed, and would shuffle thru those. I'm assuming the obvious suggestion will be to create a playlist of those same songs and then just shuffle that list. Any other ideas or suggestions are also appreciated.
    Thanks

Out of interest, how many songs are we talking about that you want excluded?
I have another possible solution if there aren't too many.
