ITunes 'misplaces' songs downloaded as podcasts

When songs are downloaded as podcasts, KEXP's Song of the Day for example, they are not appearing in a master search, which only searches music. So if I want to listen to all songs from a particular artist by searching that artist, any songs that are downloaded as a podcast are missing.
I did try relabeling genre and manual removing the files in the Podcast folder of my library, to no avail.
Am I missing something? Any thoughts are MUCH appreciated!

Thanks for the reply. Two follow-ups if you will.
1.)Is there a simple way to move the song from my Itune player to another person's machine via our office network or the internet to have him burn it (i.e. are than any "tricks" to getting the file and permissions from one machine to another)?
2.)Is there anyway to have songs from ITune Music Store downloaded in an alternate format?

  • Itunes continues to download old podcasts i have played

With this latest update, iTunes continues to download old podcasts I have already played and deleted.
Is this an iTunes problem or is there a setting a missed with the update?

No. Those purchases/downloads were made with her Apple ID and are permanently linked to it. To download those updates you will need her credentials regardless of which Apple ID is signed into iTunes.

  • ITunes refusing to download a podcast episode

I subscribe to four podcasts and I like to download all episodes and keep them to listen to them whenever I want to.
But I am having an issue with an episode of one of my podcasts.
As one can see in the print screen below, the episode 397 of the podcast is not downloaded, and even if I try clicking the cloud button or right-clicking the episode and choosing "download episode", it doesn't download.
I have the lastest version of iTunes, my OS is Win 7 x64 updated.
My podcasts aren't syncing with my iDevices because of the iCloud issues that obliviate all download podcasts that aren't synced.
    Thnak you for any help!

    In my experience;
an episode of a podcast may come from one server to a portable device, and a different server to a desktop. So if I'm correct, that could mean that only the desktop version is not working.
when I have seen an exclamation mark next the Podcast header, clicking on the exclamation mark displays a message saying "the Podcast could not be found on the server", so that is why I suspect that in this situation, it means the episode cannot be located.
iTunes (Apple) does not host Podcasts. The Store simply lists them. If you choose to download an episode of a particular Podcast, iTunes asks the host server to download the episode directly to your Library. It does not go through the iTunes Store.
contacting the Podcast's producers is (in my opinion) the second best method of getting the issue resolved.
the best method for getting the issue resolved (because it involves no effort at all on your part) is do nothing, and wait until someone else sorts out the issue.

  • Undoing iTunes Match songs downloads on my iPhone?

I have over 48,000 songs in iTunes Match.
All of my songs showing on my iPad are in the iCloud. But some of my iTunes Match songs on my iPhone are downloaded onto my phone and I don't want them to be.
How do I reverse them into just being in the iCloud?

That approach works when I am loading new music.
I have found it doesn't work for music that has been loaded much earlier in time. For those songs, the swiping my finger to the left approach doesn't work.
I noticed recently that sometimes the songs that appear to be downloaded on my phone - that show no cloud by them - will subsequently show a cloud, which might mean that they actually aren't downloaded on my phone but something isn't working or efficient with iTunes Match.
Has anyone had that happen to them? Are some of my issues potentially due to the number of songs I have on iTunes Match?

  • ITunes 7, slow downloads for podcasts

Since installing iTunes 7, my regular podcast downloads are really slow (like 20 mins for a 30min podcast). This used to take about 5 mins. I have a 2Gb connection. I have tried turning off my firewall but this makes no difference.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Same problem here in Vienna, Austria. I have a 4 Megabit broadband cable connection but the podcast downloads in iTunes 7 take forever - literally. Sometimes hours for just 30MB. Also song previews in iTunes Store don't work, most of the time. It regularely displays an error message about having lost connection to the network and rebuffering the stream, this happening about ten times during the 30 second sound clips.
Funny thing is, internet connection itself is perfectly fine: downloads via safari and other apps work fast as ever, only iTunes (since installing version 7) is showing these problems.
I have no solution either, hope something comes up soon (maybe software update?).

  • How do I transfer the iTunes Match songs downloaded on my computer to my iPhone?

I downloaded all of my songs from iTunes Match to my computer and was hoping to transfer them via USB to my iPhone. It appears that the only way to get them on my phone is to download them from the could though. Is there a way to transfer the songs to my iPhone via USB? Or do I have to download them (again) from the cloud?

I turned off iTunes Match on my phone and things seemed to work how I wanted. The songs that I downloaded on my computer just transferred over like normal.

  • ITUNES Failure - Song download interuption - Windows XP

    Installed ITUNES for Windows XP.
    Established ITUNES account.
    Purchased an albumn for download.
First three tunes downloaded, then went into "processing" phase.
I let this processing continue for ~5 minutes before manually shutting down the application as I realized the app was frozen.
Started it back up and re-initiated the download, which continued with songs 4 thru 6.
Upon reaching the processing phase, same thing occured (froze and I shut down).
Restarted for a third time and now, all tunes downloaded and post-processed with no issue.
However, the first 6 tunes are not recognized by itunes as being part of the album. They have data in them, but as their post-download processing was interuppted, they are no recognized by the application.
HOW CAN I RE-DOWNLOAD THIS ALBUM? As there does not appear to be an easy way to do it in ITUNES? Thanks

  • ITunes Match song download error on iPhone

All songs matched or uploaded sucessfully.
I've tried to download just 1 playlist after enabling match on my iPhone 4, but 3 songs are stuck in download queue in iTunes (phone).
They say 'download error, tap to try again'
When I tap the progress bar shoots up really fast then at processing they fail.
    Anyone any ideas?

The only way that worked for me was deleting the songs in iTunes (both iCloud and Mac while keeping the files). Then updating iTunes Match. Next, drag and drop the album back to iTunes and update Match.
Next, on iPhone, the only way that worked to download them is to actually playback each song in the album NOT "download all" button or even individual download button. If I use the buttons, it downloads part of the song then I get the error message or it stops midway and you can't delete the song from the download queue. Again, the only way that worked for my iPhone was to playback each song without skipping any of them and they easily downloaded on my phone. Hope this helps
PS: The check downloads on iTunes did nothing to me as it never showed the iOS queue items, only my undownloaded purchases from iTunes Store.

  • ITunes tries to download old podcasts

    Hi,
I have two computers (home and office) with the same podcasts subscribed to on both and the download setting is 'manually'. They both run on WinXP.
My office computer's iTunes works fine. I choose 'Update podcast' and it downloads the latest episode. No problem.
My home version though has suddenly gotten the dates wrong and when I want to update my podcasts it tries to download episodes from several weeks ago. Deleting the subscription and re-subscribing doesn't help.
I assume — but what do I know ? — that some file containing my podcasts list got corrupted. It somehow doesn't realize what the current date is and tries to download whatever episode was available when it got corrupted. And, yes, the date on my computer is correct.
If I am right, what file should I delete before resubscribing to my podcasts?
If I am wrong, has anybody got an idea about what's happening?
    Thanks for any reply.

Sorry for the bumps but I'm still looking for an answer to this problem. Sad thing is that I can't think of any other related program that has this problem. I don't want to abandon iTunes but I may have no choice.

  • ITunes continues to give me a message that it cannot download my podcast from podomatic -- what am I doing wrong? I am following the instructions exactly and copying and pasting the rss feed.

Help! I've watched two tutorials and it appears that this should be so simple, but iTunes will not download my podcast that I host on podomatic.com. I've copied and pasted the RSS feed. What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!

The feed itself seems OK and can be subscribed to manually in iTunes, and the latest episode downloaded OK.
However, on checking the URL of the latest episode's media file in Safari resulted in a download: it should play in the browser. Though forcing a download doesn't seem to upset the iTunes application, the Store doesn't like it since it needs to be able to stream the file to play it in the Store page.
It's also a requirement that the server can handle 'byte range requests' (where only part of the file is requested at a time instead of the whole thing) because this is the method used by iTunes. It was testing for this that showed there was a problem because I got a 'forbidden' error (in other words, because a download is forced it's not possible to request only part of the file).
It must be possible to get this straight on Podomatic since they handle a lot of podcasts, but you will need to take it up with them and check that it's been corrected.
The first test is to paste the media file URL into Safari's address bar and hit return: after a short delay it should play in the browser window. If it downloads you still have a problem.

  • "Itunes has stopped updating your podcast" message -- is there away around?

When new podcasts are downloaded into Itunes, I transfer them straight to my ipod. I don't play them in Itunes.
As a result, I have to tell Itunes that I DO want to continue downloading new files - for every podcast to which I subscribe, on a recurring basis.
Seems to me that transferring the file shows signs of interest - same as playing.
Is there a way to set Itunes to treat a transfer to the ipod the same as playing it?

You're right, there is no way to turn off this asinine, infuriating feature. It's this kind of thing that drove me away from Windows and made me so happy when I got a Mac. I felt like I didn't have to fight the Windows Big Brother anticipating my needs and only allowing me to do things in a way that Windows wanted me to.
Anyways, there is a partial solution, although its pretty sad compared to how easy it would be if Apple included a little checkbox in the options menu that said "Do you want iTunes to stop downloading your podcasts if you listen to them in any other way than on iTunes, even if you listen to them on your (Apple) iPod?". Go to http://www.dougscripts.com and check out the NeedleDrop script. It will let you automatically play 1 second or so of each podcast in your directory. You can then tell iTunes to update your podcasts and it will retrieve all of them, as it should anyways. One downside is that you'll have to run the NeedleDrop script every so often to update the playcount of your podcasts. Another downside, if you're a Windows user, is that the AppleScript will only work on Mac.
As a tangent (read "rant"), iTunes is becoming really annoying lately. For starters, the interface has been looking more and more repulsively Windows-esque for the last few versions. Just recently, when I updated to the latest version of iTunes, it took me a week or so to delete the previous version because there was an application called "iTunes Helper" that wouldn't close. It didn't appear in the list of processes on my computer. Finally I found that it was a startup item in my list of startup programs. After disabling it, I was finally able to delete the old version of iTunes. Now iTunes doesn't update my podcasts if I don't listen to them in a way that iTunes deems fit. What is going on? Ugly interface, hidden processes, uncontrollable "features". Is Apple outsourcing their development to Microsoft or something?
