Itunes mix down file too big?

Greetings from the bayou,
I am trying to e-mail a band mate a mix of a song from GB in itunes. I didn't notice this before, but the file is 24.3 MB. Is there a way/program or a setting in itunes to compress these files to meet my 10MB limit. Also, I would like to give some direction on the other end for him to open it in windows/itunes if possible. Should I store these songs in such a large file format for that matter? Mix down to itunes then transfer to smaller file size, then delete large files...
Thanks for your time,

That's up to you. The uncompressed AIFF files are of the highest quality, but you can always make another mixdown from the GB file if you want to.

  • Is an 8.7GB file too big to import into iMovie 9?

Is an 8.7GB file too big to import into iMovie 9?  I am using iMovie 8.0.6 on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8 on 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB Memory.  I can't get my movie file to import into iMovie...any advice would be much appreciated!

When you import into iMovie, your video is converted into DV format. This uses 13 GB per hour of video. So the first thing you have to do is make sure you have 26 GB free on your hard drive, plus another 10GB free for OSX to perform, plus 10GB free if you plan on burning a DVD.
iMovie has non-destructive editing. If you have used any part of a clip and discard the rest, that entire clip is still saved in your project - unused but eating up disc space. If you use no part of a clip and discard the clip, then the clip can go in the trash and you get back disc space. So...
If you import 2 hours of video (26GB) as one clip, and only use 2 minutes, your 2-minute segment retains its 2-hr source in memory. 2 min = 26 GB.
One thing you can do is set the iMovie preferences to automatically create new clips every 3 minutes. (2 hours of 3-min clips = 40 clips.) This allows you to find the 2-minute segment you want and delete all of the unused clips. Say your 2-minute segment comes from 2 of these 3-min clips, so you keep 6 minutes of source footage and delete the rest. Clips that are entirely unused will be completely deleted and give you back disc space. At .65 GB per clip, your 6-minute project is now only 1.3 GB, and you've just regained 24.7 GB of disc space.

  • Published site won't load. Are my video files too big?

I'm a video editor and have published a site through iWeb. I have about 8 movie files on the site. The site never fully loads. Are my video files too big? If so, what would you recommend the average MB's should be?

You need to use a movie player that doesn't require the files to load with the webpage...

  • Backup file too big using Disk Utility

I need to back up my 160GB Mackintosh HD on my imac OSX 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard) using disk utility. After a short period of the imaging process I get a message saying 'file too big'. What can I do to resolve the problem? My external drive is 1TB with 500GB available.
I've tried using Time Machine but this seems to want to wipe my external disk.

You may or may not be able to use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to shrink the single partition and create a new one in the free space.

  • Exporting a sequence and getting an Error file too big message

I have tried to export a sequence using Quicktime conversion. It is a two minute clip and I keep getting an "Error, File too big" message. Does anyone know what can be happening?

What exactly are you exporting to? Settings, codec, data rate? What drive are you exporting to? How is it formatted?

  • Lightroom reports file too big

Problem with panos stitched with PTGui. Three D2X NEFs converted in Lightroom then opened in CS2, saved as TIF files and stitched to one 75MB image in PTGui are then reported by Lightroom to be too big to import. The resulting TIF file opens happily in Photoshop and other applications (ACDSee, Neat Image etc). It makes no difference if I then save it as JPEG (takes it down to 15MB), Lightroom still refuses to import. I have a feeling that this is not related to file size (15MB JPEG?)
    Anyone with a hint?

Your are welcome Peter, I believe that it is only in recent times that PS moved to 30k pixels so we might have to wait until the other bugs/features are sorted out !!

  • Files too big

I've been trying to render a 1 hour presentation in .avi best quality. It chug's on it for an hour and half way through says the files to big. Am I to settle for a lower quality or is their a limiter I can raise somewhere?
Also what are the best setting for export to iDVD from FCE4. would you notice much difference in using the medium AVI, should I be re rendering it to some form of .mov or mp4
I'm using SD RAW DV AVI footage catured as DV AVI file from Pinacle that connected to mixer. It recieving from 2 Canon XL2's and a Canon GL2

I was using mp4 but it was taking 4 hours just to render and get to the point I could edit. avi in its highest quality is direct miniDV. its simply what the capture PC is spitting out. and was trying not to change that formate, but I'll try having it render out a .mov and see what happens, it just really time consuming. hopefully after 3-4 more runs through this process hopefully I'll have a work flow down. it my first mac so I have quite a learning curve

  • Encore CS6 - File Too Big For Disk

My Computer Stats:  Imac 3.4Ghz,Core i7, 8GB Ram, About 2 years old.
My Project:  Standard Definition, 16x9 Aspect Ratio, About 4 hours of raw footage captured from dv tapes to external usb drive dock with a 500 GB drive in it, footage edited down in Premeire Pro CS6 to 1:55:00 and used Dynamic Link to bring the project into Encore to make a standard definition DVD. Rendering the ISO file to the desktop of the iMac.
I have done this process many times with projects of similar length.  Each prior time I was able to make a DVD.  I have tried many of the DVD Presets.  The lowest quality preset estimates the file size at 3.4 gig.  But the resulting file is 5.43 gig.  I have adjusted many of the Project Settings and Quality Setting, even setting the quality to its lowest setting.  The resulting ISO file will not get any smaller than 4.92 gigs. Too big to fit a 4.7 gig blank disk.
I have tied this process on the iMac listed above and on a Mac Mini.  Prior to this project I had not had any issues making DVD's on either machine. The only thing that is different and common to both machines is that I had installed Premeire Pro CC recently on both to test it out.  However this project was captured in PP CS6 and edited in PP CS6.
My client wants the DVD's he has paid for.  My deadline has passed.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The first preset has been selected.
Okay; but that is why I want to see the project panel. You can "select" a preset in the edit panel, but not "select" it as the actual transcode setting.
The Transcode Settings panel, not the Edit Quality Presets panel, is where you actually set the preset to be used.

  • Im Thinking About Migrating to QuickBooks Online, But My Files Too Big!

Thinking about migrating from QuickBooks desktop to QuickBooks Online Edition? What if your file is too big? There is a way around this obstacle, but first, a little background. It used to be that if your QuickBooks file was bigger than 200MB, it wouldn’t migrate to QuickBooks Online…too big. You’d get an error when you… Continue reading →

    Well, a couple of thoughts:
    1. In CS3 if you have your photos converted to DNG format [and I think you can convert TIFFs] then ACR 4 that is included as a plug in when you installed CS3 [I hope I have the terminology right here, I do lots of things rote from previous experience and sometimes my directions are off] will open and DNG file [that I am sure of]. Then you can resize using the ACR controls. You can open multiple files and operate on them all at once.
    2. I think you can do this in CS3 directly as well since you can operate on multiple files there as well. The problem you will have is available ram. If you start opening 30 MB files [lots of them] you will bog down pretty fast.
    3. I think this discussion has got beyond the bounds of LR and I am willing to continue the discussion off line at [email protected]

  • Music files too BIG! Pleas Help!

I'm probably just new with this iTunes program but for some reason my music files are insanly big. Files that should be 2 to 3MB are 20 to 30MB. I have checked the sample rate under importing preferences and it says automatic. What am I doing wrong and can I change the ones that are too big without reimporting.

Thank you for your suggestion however since I upgraded to the new iTunes software nothing has seemed to work correctly. I am currently using the software that came with my iPod which is the version previous but with all the problems from the new software. as you suggested I tried to change the format of my audio files. The formats the worked were MP3, WAV, and apple lossless. When I try it with the AIFF I get and Unknown error (-213) message. Unfortunatly thats the only format which will make my files smaller, the others only made them larger, 40MB for one song ouch. I believe my problem is stemming from the software upgrade, before I upgraded I could import music and the files were the correct size, I could import photos with out them coming up white blank pages on my iPod. Needless to say I am pretty frustrated. Also my iTunes won't even play the AIFF files any more (since I upgraded). I guess the thing that would help me the most is how could I restore my Itunes to the way it was before I upgraded software?
Everything worked "perfectly" then. I hope this gives an Idea of the problems I am having. Thank you for your time.

  • File Too Big to Open?

I have a ~26 MB CSV file, which I had wanted to open in Numbers 09. But when I did, Numbers displayed the Opening dialog box, and then said that the file can't be opened because it was too big. How can I work around this and open the CSV file?

CSV is a text file, so if it's a spreadsheet, it likely exceeds the 64K row limit for a Numbers table.
You might be able to open the file in TextEdit, then split it into smaller pieces which you will be able to open.
Or it may be possible to open the file using either NeoOffice or OpenOffice.org, both of which can be downloaded from their respective websites (linked to the names in this line).
Make a copy of the file to try these with.

  • Archived file too big for DVD

    Hello
I have created an archive file that looks to be 7.4 GB - obviously too big to fit on one DVD. Is there a way to put this file onto TWO DVD's, or do I have to try and make two files that are smaller in order to put them on DVD?
It doesn't look like the archive file is much smaller than the originals put together - there was an M4V (iPod movie - 163 MB), a disk image of the same (iDVD - 1.77 GB) and the original file from iMovie (6.6GB). I'm afraid that even if I split them up into two files, I won't be able to get the iMovie file onto one disk just by itself!
I really want them on a disk rather than an external hard drive - at the rate my son is making these movies, I'll have no space left really soon! Please help! Thanks.

"SuperDrive" is just Apple's term for their internal DVD writers. In the last couple of years, SuperDrives have been updated with DL-burning capability.
A "regular" single-layer DVD has around 4.7GB of capacity, which roughly translates to 90 minutes of video.
Commercial movie DVDs have long used the DL format, meaning that they can fit twice the length of video onto the disk. You will specifically need "DVD +R DL" disks to record this amount of data. Apple sells them, but you should also find them at good office stockists.
DVD players/readers can read both formats.

  • Keynote - files too big to email/share, looking for PDF resolution solution

Has anyone worked out how to change a keynote presentation PDF resolution when preparing for sharing? The file I get is too big to email (6 photos gave me 55mb) as it appears to retain the input resolution of the embedded photos?

If using Acrobat 9 Go To Document>Reduce File size.
If Using Acrobat X or XI to tot he tools sidebar and use Optimize for Web Distribution.
If you do not want to fool witht he pdf in any way then download Adobe Send Now app and use their free service or subscribe for a year for a whopping $29.95.
The free version allows you to upload files upt to 500MB there may be limitis to how many files you can upload it sends an e-mail to the parties you want to download the files and they simply follow the link and it downloads.
The paid version allows you to upload files as large as 2 GB and gives you 20GB of storage. I immediately myself purchased the paid version.
If you hppen to upgrade to the cloud then you get the paid version free.

  • Flv files too big?

i have three video files on my website. each is 1 minute long
and each is just under 5 megs big. is this an acceptable size for
the videos or are they still too big and require further
compression? what is considered acceptable? i am finding that when
they play they play fine (streaming from my website) however they
are not reliable in actually starting. sometimes it takes 2 or 3
clicks before they start to stream. i am not sure why this is
happening. i thought it could be related to the file size
    thanks !
    angus

I don't understand why so much detail on my process is needed. It's just a file conversion to view a movie I downloaded. I do have FCE and work in it, but not in this case. It just seemed that most Streamclip discussions were in this thread area, so I came here. Anyway, thank you. I will try what you suggest, but I do think it's a useful feature for these programs to clearly show, when possible, final converted file sizes based on what parameters have been chosen. For example, the newest Quicktime photo conversion window features a slider that allows you to SELECT the file size for .jpg. I always needed something like this and was delighted to see it appear in the new version. It's the great thing about Apple - user-friendliness.

  • TS3276 server says file too big to send-file says 33MB server says 44MB

I cannot send a short video which is 33.1 MB in the description but the server won't process as it claims the file is too big(44MB) and it can handle only 41MB.
I've tried to compress it but still reads as "too big to send"

You seem focused on the difference between 33 megabytes binary and a 44 megabytes transfer — the messages have to be encoded as SMTP mail was never intended as a binary transfer mechanism — mail servers transfer printable text messages — and the text-encoded attached binary files are inherently going to be larger than the original files.
You're going to have to raise the mail server limits (which requires administrative access to the mail server), or find an alternate means of transferring the file — mail servers aren't very efficient at large transfers, large files tend to blow out mail server storage quotas, and blow out mail files.   Or chunk up the file into smaller files, send the chunks independently, and then concatenate the file remotely.  (There are tools around to do this — at the command line, have a look at the zipsplit tool — but I'd generally discourage this approach as it adds effort and complexity to the process.)
The usual approach is a file transfer service.   Dropbox or SpiderOak or some other file hosting or file transfer service are the most common approaches here, and are also more efficient than the overhead involved with large attachments sent via a mail server.   Many of these file-hosting services offer more than enough storage here, and often as part of a free service tier.
Some folks can and do run their own file-hosting services, but that generally involves configuring and managing a server system and the associated network connections.
