ITunes mixed some of my albums together

I'm quite new to the iTunes-thing and I wanted to make sure every album had it's cover visible. So I selected all the songs in my iTunes library and some of the different boxes in the info menu (Artisit, Album, Genre, ...). This caused iTunes to put all the songs into one album named 'Unknown album' from an 'Unknown artist'. This includes the songs that I bought from the iTunes store.
I already tried deleting them and downloading them again, but the problem stays.
Is there anyway to divide the songs/albums again?

The problem is that you've inadvertently deleted the information that iTunes uses to organize songs into albums - although other fields can affect this, without Artist and Album information iTunes can't show anything other than a collection of songs by an Unknown Artist collected into an Unknown Album.  For purchases from the iTunes store you should be able to recover this information - select Edit > Preferences > Store and make sure the Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases box is checked; this should overwrite any changes you've made locally by that pulled from the Store.
If you have chosen not to have iTunes organize your library (Edit > Preferences > Advanced) then your songs should still be in the original folder structures (e.g., by artist and album) - it may be possible to use a script solution to make some repairs.
Otherwise (assuming that you don't have a backup of your complete iTunes library folder structure - which you really should have to be able to recover from situations like this) you're faced with either deleting everything apart from iTunes Store purchases and reimporting from the original source (CD, etc.), or going through songs one-by-one and re-entering the Artist and Album info that you previously removed.  It is one of the less-friendly aspects of iTunes that there are cases, like this one, where selecting a checkbox next to an apparently blank field can result in bulk deletion of important data.

  • My itunes separted some of my albums...how do I put them back together

I added some albums to my itunes however some kind of way it seperated the albums into 3 differetn ones with different tracks. I am trying to get itunes to combine the songs back to one album....HELP!!!!!!!!

Select all the songs you want to be in one album, right click and choose "Get Information", delete the album name, if any, and type the one you want. You can also paste the Artwork in the right bottom box. Then click "Accept".

  • Songs didn't load properly into itunes; each song is an album

I moved several albums of songs into itunes, but some of the albums didn't load properly, with each individual song going into itunes as an album itself. I went into the info for each song and found that the album name is correct, and the same for each song, yet they don't load under one album. Is there some way to get each song into its album besides just changing the album name? Is there some other setting in those songs that needs to be changed?

If you right click on them and select Get Info and go to the Info tab are they shows part of a complilation/different tracks of one album?

    - Are the apps missing or are the icons white?
    - If missing have yu tried using the Spotlight search and trying to find them?
    - Have you tried downloading them on your iPad and then syncing?
    - Have you tried deleting them on the computer and then syncing?  That might also delete them from the iPad so you can redownal them
    - Have you tried reetting the iPad?

  • ITunes 10 (Humpty Dumpty) - Getting albums back together again?

Why has iTunes 10 suddenly split compilation albums? Some tracks will not join back into the correct album, no matter how hard I try to shepherd them there. Some tracks do not have album art, when their siblings do.
I have tried selecting all tracks, selecting 'part of a compilation' and trying to get them sorting as one album, but alas, they will come back together again.
What has apple done? Any hints?

    turingtest2,
I read your link above and found it very helpful.  I do have a question regarding it.  I am not in front of my laptop with iTunes on it, so I will go from memory.
From what I recall, in iTunes 11.0.1 on my PC laptop, it seems to be organized as such that when I click on artist (left pane) I can see all albums by that artist including compilations that they are on.  This seems tidy and well from what I can recall.
On my iPhone, when I click on artists, not all of their albums show up, specifically, if the album is a "compilation" or they are part of a soundtrack.  When I click on albums on my iPhone, I can finally see the album that they are on.  Now, this is not true for all artists it seems as some of them show up (the compilation album) when I view by artist on my iPhone, so, slightly inconsistent.  It is very frustrating because some of the albums which are straighforward albums show up as compilations so I can't see them unless I click all albums on my iPhone and then know the speficic album I am looking for.
Regardless, like I said it all seems tidy in iTunes, however I would like to:
    1.  Be able to see all albums the artist is on on my iPhone
    2.  I am concerned that if I turn off group compilations that it will split up all these tracks and make a mess of my library.
    3.  In order to tidy this up, I entered Album Artists for some where albums were split up (tracks that have feat. or your example of Clapton however the track was by Cream) so that they all were grouped on the same album as they should be.
I guess my bottom line is, how do I see all the albums for each artist even if it is part if a compilation/soundtrack without messing up my iTunes since it seems fine now that I have altered album artists in some cases and in others, artists that are part of a compilation show up as seperate artists?
    Am I making sense?

  • How can I delete or transfer some (not all) Albums, Music and pics in "Photo Library" NOT purchased in iStore from my iPhone to a computer, when the original computer that did the original iTunes to iPhone synch is no longer available (stolen)?

The iPhone iOS 4 User Guide sees to indicate that the SYNCH function is all one way from computer to iPhone, unless it is for purchased items in iStore on the iPhone.
    1. How can I delete some (not all) Albums and Music from my iPhone when the original computer that did the iTunes to iPhone synch is no longer available (stolen)?
    2. How can I transfer Albums and Music (not purchased from iStore on iPhone) from my iPhone to the new computer?
    3. How can I delete some (not all) pictures in my iPhone "Photo Library"  when the original computer that did the iTunes to iPhone synch is no longer available (stolen)?
    4. How can I transfer pictures in my iPhone "Photo Library" to the new computer?

    Hi wjosten,
thanks for the "TouchCopy" software link. I have downloaded a demo copy and it will resolve my transfer of music from iPhone to the new computer. I can then delete any unwanted music on the new computer, then re-synch the updated music to iPhone.
I am not sure about the photos.   On my iPhone, there are two photo "albums" - one called "camera roll" and the other called "photo library."  TouchCopy finds the pictures in the "camera roll" DCIM folder, and I can copy them to the new computer etc.
However, TouchCopy does not seem to find the "Photo Library" folder.  Any clues?

I recently transferred my ITunes library to an external hard drive.  I made sure to copy all the data from the saved location.  After the transfer I noticed that a lot of albums are missing the first song and some recently purchased albums are missing.  Is there any way to recover the data?  Thanks for any help.

I may have found an answer here:

They only thing I can assume is that my external hard drive was slow to start and iTunes defaulted to its old directory (see the last paragraph at the link above). However, once my external was recognized shouldn't everything have fixed itself?

  • "Unknown Artist" comes up on iPhone music library for some albums even though they have an artist in iTunes, Also some artwork not showing on iPhone even though the artwork for the album is on the iTunes library on my iMac

Trying to copy full albums onto my iphone 5s, some (About 25%) albums have "unknown artist" where the artist should be, even though they have the correct artist names in Itunes on my MBP.
Also some albums dont have artwork on the iphone but it is there on itunes on my MBP.
    Is there a fix?
    (itunes 11.1.2, iphone 7.0.3)

When you fix track names and album art in iTunes the information is written to an XML database and not to the file itself. You can use Doug's scripts to embed meta information to the file.
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=embedart

There is also an iTunes vbscript if you're using windows.

this actually just happened to me the other day- some of the artwork was messed up on my Nano. I restored the nano, and then resynced it. Artwork is fine now. So, assuming the artwork is fine in iTunes, you could give that a try.

  • ITunes mixes up the track order of songs within an album??

My iTunes mixes up the track order, and there is no way to specifically order it by track.  i have even gone and individually marked each song as ie(2 of 12) but it still lists them in a random order.  How can I make the songs fit in their original order?  And none of that "click at the top to order it by artist, album, or time etc," because it doesn't click above track number.

If the songs are in a playlist open iTunes then click on the playlist. Click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move and drag it to where you want it to be. Right click on the playlist name and select "Copy to play order". Connect your iPod, if you are updating automatically it will pick up the change. If you are updating manually then you connect first and when the iPod appears in the source list carry out the process above directly in the playlist on your iPod. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.
If the tracks are out of order in the library try this, I found that it works for me. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album column. If you like you can then click on Artist, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Artist>Album>Track Number within Album (you can hide the track number column when you've done if you don't want it cluttering up the view)

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • TS1362 i have downloaded an album off iTunes and some of the songs stop half way they just go silent! should i buy the album again? or what can i do to fix it?

i have downloaded an album off iTunes and some of the songs stop half way they just go silent! should i buy the album again? or what can i do to fix it?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Adding compilation albums to iTunes. Some artist get listed separately

When I add a folder containing a COMPILATION album to my library in iTunes occasionally it splits the album into 2 or 3  and each of these will have just one track in it from the original compilation.
Why does iTunes do this and how can it be remedied.
Please will someone answer this CLEARLY. All the answers I have explored do not!!
    Thanks in advance

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
