ITunes mixes up track order

When I put the CD into the computer for it to be imported to my iTunes, the track names are read correctly but all the tracks are mismatched. I've tried dragging the tracks into the right place, but that doesn't work. How can I get them back to the correct order again?

You have one of the OTHER columns besides the first one selected and are sorting by that column. For example, if you sort a CD by song title, it will remember that sorting for all CDs you put in.
So click on the top off the track number column to resort by track order again.

  • ITunes screws up track order and randomly screws up volume level

I'm really starting to regret replacing my 5g video with the classic. The video out issue is one problem, but my biggest issue is my Media Monkey isn't compatible and I had to go back to iTunes. First off I hate using iTunes to manage content. The format ***. But a bigger issue is why does having info in the id3 tag that has nothing to do with the track order of an album screw up the order? I shouldn't have to delete fields like "Album Artist" to get things to sort correctly. Track number should be the ONLY criteria for sorting tracks in an album. The second issue is, I've had problems witrh not being able to hear tracks, no volume. When I check in iTunes it has somehow adjusted the volume to zero for those tracks! I'll be happy when MM updates their software to work with the classic.

I don't know what column I am sorting on when I drag the mp3s over to iTunes. It's whatever the default order is when you create a new play list.
I believe the default is to sort the songs in the order they were added to the playlist. If you want to keep them in track order, you can click on the "Track #" or "Album" column headers.
As for the built in browser duplicating the individual play lists, how does my ipod know which songs belong together? The artist to album menu? I have never used the browser feature, so will have to play with it when I get home.
When determining whether songs are part of the same album, I believe iTunes and iPods look at the Album, Album Artist (or Artist if there is none), and Disc # fields, and whether or not the album is marked as a compilation. If all those fields are filled out, there shouldn't be any trouble with the Browser recognizing albums.

  • Itunes U wrong track order

My itunes U collections have the tracks in the wrong order.
all information on the "info panel" is the same
         titles are ordered my number
I've tried all the fixes that pop up online: edit the album number, the track number, album artist etc etc
Any tips on how to order the different files by name in itunes U ?
    Thanks!

  • Itunes scrambles album track order

All of the track titles under all of my albums are out of order, for example the order is track numbers 8, 5, 7,1 ,10,3, instead of 1, 2, 3, 4,etc.
This is making it a pain to make playlists.

  • ITunes changes track order when burning discs

When burning a playlist to disc iTunes changes the track order.  I want the disc to have the same track order as my playlist.  How do I do that?

    Jim VanLeeuwen wrote:
How your CD appears in iTunes depends on the column selections. In list view in iTunes, select the column to the left of the track names to see the CD track order. To see the actual order of the tracks on the CD, open the CD in Finder by double-clicking the CD on the desktop. The tracks will be preceded by a number corresponding to their order on the CD and that is the order they should play in your CD player. If you use the Finder's list view, your CD should reflect the order in the playlist you burned it from.
Play the CD in your CD player? Does the order match the original playlist?
Nope, when I put it in my car CD player the tracks are randomized. On the playlist I can put the tracks in the order that I wanted them in and when I burn them iTunes randomizes the order on the cd. I've burned it 4 more times and each time the tracks have been randomized. This is also with a cd that I bought from the ITS. So the playlist is in track order and I even checked the tags and the numbers are in the correct order.

  • Changing track order after importing

I am trying to import opera CDs into my iTunes library. Operas usually take up 2 or 3 CDs, and when I try to upload the multiple CDs to my library, iTunes mixes up the order of the tracks so that I can't listen to the opera in order. How do I change the order of the tracks in the iTunes library so that I can listen to the opera in order?

Try this, I found that it works for me. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album by year column. If you like you can then click on Artist, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Track Number>Album>Artist. Make sure the little triangle on the right side of the track number column header is pointing up. In that direction the column is sorted in Ascending order (lowest to highest).

  • I'm trying to import a new cd, but when I load it in, iTunes shuffles the track listing.  What the heck?!

I'm trying to import a new cd, but when I load it in, iTunes shuffles the track order.  What the heck?!

If you have music that was purchased on different iTunes accounts than the one you use, then you must provide the password, otherwise the tunes are not considered yours.  You can turn off iCloud and just use the usual USB sync method.  But I wonder whether you'll have the same problem?

  • When trying to upload a cd onto itunes it chooses to chop the original cd into 4 separate albums and mix up the track order. Any ideas why and how to overcome this problem?  ( the cd is guy gerber and called fabric 64)

When uploading a cd onto itunes on my imac it has choosen to copy the original cd into 4 seperate cds and mix up the track order, particularly annoying as this is a mixed cd (Guy Gerber, fabric 64) .  Any ideas why when everthing else copies perfectly and how to rectify this problem?

  • ITunes mixes up the track order of songs within an album??

My iTunes mixes up the track order, and there is no way to specifically order it by track.  i have even gone and individually marked each song as ie(2 of 12) but it still lists them in a random order.  How can I make the songs fit in their original order?  And none of that "click at the top to order it by artist, album, or time etc," because it doesn't click above track number.

If the songs are in a playlist open iTunes then click on the playlist. Click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move and drag it to where you want it to be. Right click on the playlist name and select "Copy to play order". Connect your iPod, if you are updating automatically it will pick up the change. If you are updating manually then you connect first and when the iPod appears in the source list carry out the process above directly in the playlist on your iPod. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.
If the tracks are out of order in the library try this, I found that it works for me. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album column. If you like you can then click on Artist, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Artist>Album>Track Number within Album (you can hide the track number column when you've done if you don't want it cluttering up the view)

  • Fix track order on itunes 11

Please please please can anybody help me sort out album track order in iTunes 11!?!  After I upgraded, the track order on hundreds of my albums became jumbled and there doesn't seem to be any rationale or pattern to this jumbling. As far as I can see, every album that is numbered 01, 02, 03 etc (as opposed to simply 1, 2, 3 etc) is jumbled. I've asked two individual iTunes support people for information and/or suggestions - one didnt respond; the other's response was that I should use the fee-based AppleCare system. Why in the name of all that's holy should I be referred to a paid service when it's Apple's own upgrades that has caused problems that previously didn't exist!?! Everything was fine on iTunes 10. After the most recent iPhone and iPad upgrade, Home Sharing doesn't work on those devices. And, apart from other aspects of iTunes 11, every time I now reduce to the dock, I have to Quit, wait a moment, then start iTunes all over again before the window will come back up for me. My faith in Apple is dwindling by the day ... Anyhow - any help with the jumbled track-order issue will be much appreciated, thanks.

  • Music playlist track order... iTunes vs ATV 2nd Gen

Streaming music from my iTunes Library to new 2nd Gen AppleTV: When I attempt to listen to a music playlist from my iTunes library through AppleTV, the track order within the ATV playlist does not match that of the playlist in my iTunes library. The songs within the ATV playlists are always sorted alphabeticaly by song title and do not match the sorting of playlists in my iTunes library.
I contacted an Express Lane advisor about this, case number 186510612, and was politely advised that there's apparently no solution. The advisor recommended that I submit feedback (which I did).
Track order on a music playlist is very important for several reasons. Any suggestions?

I couldn't agree more. I, too, have been an Apple/Mac user from the beginning. This seemed like such an elementary issue that I was convinced I was missing something simple. Evidently not, based on your experience and the response I got from tech support. I encourage you to report this issue in "feedback" http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and maybe Apple will fix it in a software update.
For now, ATV is almost unusuable for streaming live album playlists with "intro" tracks. Moreover, studio album track order on ATV does not correspond with that intended by the album producer which, in itself, denegrates the artistic experience.

  • ITunes Album Track Order

I basically spend 8 hr a day listening to iTunes and I have a really frustrating issue that I can't imagine should be as difficult to get around - but I can't seem to figure it out.
I buy quite a bit of music either through emusic, itunes or cd's. Since I had probably 1/2 dozen albums a week, I ideally want to open itunes and just start listening to the last album I imported (in order) followed by the 2nd most recent album, etc -- and ideally listen for my entire workday. The problem is multifaceted:
    1. Emusic automatically imports music I download. It processes them in reverse order, which is good since it makes song #1 the most recent "date added" which allows me to sort by "date added" and listen in order. Unfortunately, since it processes multiple songs at a time, shorter songs beat the song before it -- and it makes a mess of the track order. They get numbered correctly, but they're "date added" are incorrect -- which messes up my listening order.
    2. When I import a CD, it starts at track 1 -- making it impossible to use the "dated added"field as a sort.
    3. I believe Itunes acts like a cd on importing, so again the order is bungled.
I have about 6,000 songs so I don't think it's feasible to change each CD one by one, but I can't imagine there isn't some way to just listen to my newest album, in order, then my next newest, etc.
Does anyone know if there's a way to do this? I can't imagine I'm the only person who listens to music this way. Right now, I wind up filtering to the album, sorting by track, and listening to CD's one by one. I can get through like 20 albums in a day, so this it makes it really tought to get into a flow at work.
This has bothered me for well over a year, and I've searched many discussion groups and haven't come across any similar threads -- so I decided to just ask flat out.
Any help would be incredible, thank you.

hmmm... I didn't realize that was an option, but that definitely helps. I guess part two can be to request emusic to NOT IMPORT automatically, and I can just load the tracks in reverse order.
Of course that helps moving forward, but I guess I'm stuck with out of order imports on the existing library (not the end of the world).
I really wish Itunes would allow a secondary sort to allow us to sort albums and just leave the track numbers alone -- I'd say 99% of the time, people want the album tracks in order, so it's silly to have most of the sort options mess with that order.

  • Album track order in iTunes

Hello, I have a problem with a few downloaded albums.
I had downloaded album tracks off the net into album folders in My Music. The tracks were numbered. After importing the albums (folders) into my iTunes library, & updating my iPod with those, I see that in both the iPod & iTunes the tracks are in the wrong order. They are however, in correct order in their folders (in MY Music).
Any ideas how I can remedy this?

Try this, I found that it works for me. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album column. If you like you can then click on Artist which is how I prefer mine ordered, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Artist>Album>Track Number within Album (you can hide the track number column when you've done if you don't want it cluttering up the view)

  • SICK of iTunes messing up my albums' track order!

SCENARIO: I rip a CD, get track name/number and ID3 info from online database, convert to MP3, import into iTunes, sort by Album by Artist (with tracks displaying in correct order), and my iPod STILL chooses to play it in whatever order it darn well pleases.
What's up with that?! Come on, Apple!
    Oh yeah, my question:
As you can probably tell, I don't use my iPod/iTunes as a 'jukebox', I simply store my record collection on it. Concordantly, I want to listen to only my albums, and only in the track order the artist intended. How can I tell iTunes/my iPod once and for all that I don't want it to play albums in any order other than track order? If this isn't possible, my question becomes, which form of suicide could anyone recommend? I hear the Empire State Building is pretty high...

Your iPod will order the tracks by their "Track number" tag that appears when you ⌘-i a track and go to the "info" tab. Your iPod needs to know what the track number is in order to play the tracks in that order.
When this value is not present, I'm guessing it will order them in alphabetical order, or the order in which they were imported or some-such.

  • How do I get Itunes to list an album in track order including ignoring featured artists

I recently downloaded Daft Punk's new album after buying it on vinyl. after importing it to itunes, itunes wont list the album in track order. instead it lists the tracks in order per artists. example Daft punk, then Daft punk featuring Pharrel Williams ect...how do i get itunes to understand that they're all the same album and to list them in track order??
    thanks

    Hi bdm105!
Most likely, this is happening because the Album Artist field is different for each song from Random Access Memories. We have an article about song grouping in iTunes, and it can be found here:
Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1468
There are a couple ways to fix the information listed for Random Access Memories outlined in that article, but I want to point out one here:
Albums in which all songs don't have the same Album Artist information
iTunes 7 and later includes a new attribute for song files called Album Artist This allows you to assign a primary artist name for an album that many includes songs by several artists. It is important that all songs in the album have the same Album Artist name. To assign an Album Artist, select all the songs in the album and choose Get Infofrom the File menu. Next, type a name in the Album Artist field name such that it will apply to all the selected songs. This field can optionally be left blank if all the songs have the same album name.
The Album Artist field is shown in the above picture, but it is not highlighted. You will also want to make sure the Track Number field contains the correct information for the album, and information on that field can be found here:
