ITunes movies are skipping

I try to play movies and tv shows on my computer and they skipp the entire time. What is up with that? I have all the updates on everything and I know that I have an old computer, but even when I don't run anything but it, it still has problems. Can anyone help me?

One thing I have noticed is that the Xena episode I downloaded is at a much higher total bitrate (1653kbps) than the episode of Reno 911 I downloaded over the summer, which is only (668kbps), to check i downloaded a free 2 minute video 'Scrubs' with a total bitrate of 1543kbps. iTunes has increased the size of there total bitrates on TV Shows and probably movies. If your computer doesn't have the juice to handle that bitrate the video will be jerky. Does anybody know how to lower the bitrate on downloaded videos from itunes, help the little guys out here. : )

My ipod and itunes both are skipping to another song about in the middle of the song. It doesn't happen on all songs...only some songs. I have reset the ipod, I have done a restore, I have reloaded itunes, I have updated the ipod but still am unable to figure out why. It did not used to do this. I can't figure out any pattern to the songs it does it on versus that it doesn't do it on. Some of the songs are purchased, some are imported, etc. We are running Windows 7.

how long have you had your ipod? mine did the same but after a while you need to get a new one because of the battery...

Please understand I am a frustrated customer like you,  , but the availability of movies that have been shown before is dependant on licencing from the rights owners. Sky quite rightly have to pay the film studios for the ability to show to Sky's customers. As I understand it they purchase the right for a period of time, hence when the right expires then it has to be removed. The costing of the movies does reflect on the anticipated popularity of the programme, hence an older less popular movie might seem expensive but if not many people watch and pay that would be right. The apparent silliness of having movies in the store and on demand, allows those people who do not have a movie subscription to rent the movie on a one off basis. I agree that Sky seem to be licencing some programmes for shorter periods and it really upsets me when movies appear in buy and keep but not available to rent only. I recently queried Sky about Fortitude being available in OnDemand until 2022!, then of course found out that Sky owns the rights of the series. I can only say be careful if you are a movies subscriber and wish to watch a movie, not to select the Sky Store version if it is available in the Movies on Demand section. I recently wanted to watch a film that I found in Sky store at a cost, and just to be sure I searched for it and found it was to be shown on Channel 4 in a few days. I don't think we'll ever understand how such decision are made as to how long they licence movies for and how the charging model works with the film studios. Logically you would think that a smallish fee to have available indefinately and to pay the studio fee based on the number of rentals would be better, but that might be difficult to administer and Sky would have to have extra server storage fees, which they outsource. Hope that help you understand

  • HD Itunes movies are too dark on tv but fine on ipad

So this is my first post and i have run into a dilema with the itunes video quality. i have seen a couple posts on similar problems like this, but no answer. so here it go's. Ive notice that when i watch my movies that i downloaded from itunes (hd not sd) that when you get to a dark area in the movie is not just dark but pretty dark (for instance the desolation of smaug, when they are in the tunnels towards the end of the movie, its so dark on tv you lose out on detail). its not the tv settings or the computer settings because i have tryed calibrating to correct the issue. i have noticed from reading another post that the darkening so to speak only happens once the control bar on the bottom of the screen fades away when your in full screen. if you are not in full screen it retains the brightness and the detail levels. to add to this i have noticed that the movies i downloaded a long time ago are not affected by this plague of darkness, they seem to work fine, however i believe they are sd videos. (i also have loaded my personal blu rays onto itunes and it does not have the same issue that the itunes movies have). if this helps to i have a late 2012 mac mini 2.3ghz quad and my monitor is samsung tv ln46a650a. this also may help, i didnt notice thses issues until after the latest security update 2014-002 ver. 1.0, although that may be just a giant coincidence. any help you be appreciated, THANKS!

I agree that this does work.  Thanks.
However, I now have the issue that I scroll the whole screen down to show the shows at the bottom.  When I highlight the last show, the 10 shows are not visibile as they are at the top of the screen.  I have to scroll the whole screen back up to the top to see episodes.
This is not the most elegant solution but at least with lots of double scrolling, it is possible.

  • AppleTV 2 - Streaming Movies are Skipping

I have had an AppleTV 2 since the day it came out and have never had a problem with 720P content skipping, until now. My setup is an Apple Airport Extreme 3rd Gen, MacbookPro Retina (late 2013), and an AppleTV 2. The AppleTV is hard wired via Cat5e cable to the Airport Extreme. The MacBookPro is on Wifi and using 802.11n on both the laptop and the airport.
I'm using iTunes home sharing and all devices are up to date. I only see the skipping while the movie is starting (for the first 5-10min) and is being downloaded to the AppleTV. As soon as the movie's progress bar is full, the skipping stops. It's as if the AppleTV2 is overloaded doing both tasks and this was never an issuse before the latest AppleTV update.
Is anyone else having the same problem and is Apple aware of this? This should be somthing Apple can fix with an update to the 2nd Gen AppleTVs.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
        1.    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
        2.    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
        3.    Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
        4.    Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
        5.    Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • Not all of my itunes movies are showing up in icloud

I have bought many movies on itunes, but some of them don't show as available on my ios devices for icloud download. Specifically, Tangled does not show up (but my other Disney movies do). Anyone know why this is?

On itunes on my PC I see all of my films. If I use a device, lets say an iphone5, I go to the itunes store and then over to movies then over to "Purchased" and then to either "All" or "Not on this iPhone" certain films, like Tangled, don't show up. Same if I go to videos:movies, the icon for Tangled isn't there.

  • Itunes songs are skipping

Running Windows XP- I-tunes is skipping on all songs, regardless if added from store or CD. Have run repair diagnostics, reinstalled itunes, updated it, etc. Still skips on EVERY SONG. Am nauseous when I think of the time that I have spent trying to fix this ridiculous problem....
    HELP!

I also experience massive frustration with version 12.0.1.26 with my XP sp3
spent hours uninstalling and rooting out files by hand, re-installed and still cannot get more than a few seconds into my songs and iTunes starts burping and skipping. I cannot afford to spend hours on the computer when I have to be working.
Last version worked FINE, this new version is really ******* me off!

  • All my Itunes songs are skipping! Again.

I have a brand new HP stream so everything is new, the ITunes version is up to date. I have plenty of storage and ram.  All my billing is in order.  I just want to know what to do because this started right after I got the new U2 album which I am so excited about (huge fan).  What gives ITunes?  I can't play songs on my brand-new computer, each one sounds like it keeps skipping (yes the old songs too).  I can't just delete them again, because I just downloaded them...yesterday.  Help!   I have invested so much in my music resources....very frustrating!

There is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using:" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).
Another possible remedy relates to a potential clash between the 64-bit version of iTunes 12 and Google Chrome; some users have reported that uninstalling Chrome (not just not having it running) resolves the iTunes playback issues without having to install the alternative version referred to above.
Finally, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • Apple TV Itunes Movies are Not runing on Apple Tv

I just synced my movies from my Itunes account with the apple Tv. If I am going on my movies to choose a movie I like to watch, I am getting the message that the movie is not allowed to be played on Apple TV!
Do I have to turn on my computer as well if I like to watch movie?

The message can be when AppleTv can't find the movie - if the movie has really synced, it should play, but if it's simply streaming (the sync library streams stuff not on AppleTV) and computer is off it may not be able to find the streaming movie.
Restart the AppleTV it may correct the problem.

  • Only some iTunes movies are seen by iMovie

I have around 60 video clips in my iTunes library, yet only 4 show up in iMovie '08 under "iPhoto Videos". Every clip in my library was shot with the same camera, using the same settings, same codec.
This is a fresh Leopard install with iMovie '08.

I'm not sure I understand, what makes you think itunes content should show up in iphoto videos.

  • ITunes movies with no storage left on Macbook air

Where can I put my Itunes movies if i have no storage on my mac?
Itunes movies are taking up to much space, so can I move them somewhere? Or if i delete them, and get a Mac Desktop, will they be able to be redownloaded?
I need the space for other things, but do NOT want to have to repay for the movies I have bought.

    auxi.trejos wrote:

    clear cut case
You need to change the premise of your SSD use.
    see here:
Your Solid State Drive and having enough space inside your Macbook Air & Pro
Solid State Drive usage premise, or the “more space / upgrade SSD” question
There have been questions posed and positions taken by many people who are trying to use their Macbook Air or Pro’s solid state drive (SSD) as a mass media storage device, for either pictures, videos, massive music collections or all three combined; but this should not be the working premise of a ‘limited’ SSD and its use.
In which, it’s the case of those users with either 128GB, 256GB, or even 512GB of internal SSD space, that have or are running “out of space”, that questions are raised. The immediate premise of some users can sometimes be “(how to / if) upgrading my SSD” when in fact in nearly all instances another approach is the logical and sensible one that needs to be looked into and exercised.
Any Macbook containing a SSD should be idealized as a ‘working platform’ notebook containing all your applications, documents, and weekly or bi-weekly necessary files. All collections of media files such as pictures, music, and videos, unless directly needed should be kept off the notebook and on an external hard drive or likewise. While the ‘working platform’ premise is also the case with larger internal conventional hard drives of 1TB+, its implementation isn't as critical except in terms of data protection.
Realistically, you should at most coordinate roughly 20 to 25% of your total SSD space to all audio-video personal use media (picture / music / video collections), leaving the remaining amount on an external HD.
Nobody should consider any notebook a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device; and in the case of a SSD, this is more important for purposes of having sufficient working space on the SSD and reducing SSD ‘bloat’ in which cases someone is wrongly attempting to use the SSD space as a large media storage nexus.
The rare exception to the collective usage and premise of SSD use in which a much larger SSD is truly needed are for those in video and photography professions that require both the extremely fast speeds of the SSD and the onboard storage for large and or many video and photography files. However this also falls under the premise of a ‘working platform’ for such peoples rather than the intent of many who are using the SSD as passive and static data storage for media files very infrequently needed or accessed.
All on-notebook data collections should be logically approached as to necessity, and evaluated as to whether it is active or passive data that likely doesn’t need to be on the notebook, allocations of space-percentages to as-needed work and use, apportioning space for your entertainment media, and questioning whether it should it be on the notebook for more than short-term consumption.
Considerations should be made in the mind of any user in differentiating the necessary system data (System hub) comprising the Mac OSX, applications, necessary documents that both must and should be on your internal SSD, and that of the users personal data (Data hub) comprising created files, pictures, music, videos, PDF files, data created or being created and otherwise, that likely unless being used soon or often should be parked on an external hard drive for consumption, or temporarily loading onto the internal SSD.
You both can and should purchase whichever SSD size you need or see fit, but even in the case of the largest of SSD, unless use-considerations are made, and SSD spaces are allocated as should be the case indicated above, one can easily and immediately run into this quandary of “needing more internal SSD space”, in which instance a different approach in usage must then be implemented.
However it is almost always the case, that such large media files are wanted to be stored internally rather than actually needed, in which case the external HD is both prudent as well as necessary. Additionally costs per MB are infinitely less on an external HD than an internal SSD in any consideration of data expansion needs.
    A Professional Example
In the case of a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro Retina with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.
You should also never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your Macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’. This is especially what your external HD is for.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their notebooks internal SSD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your Macbook has a SSD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your notebook to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.
Slim USB3 1TB external hard drive
    External Hard Drives
External hard drives are both extremely cheap and regardless of the size of your internal SSD (or even internal hard drive if the case), you need an external hard drive with your SSD equipped Macbook for several reasons:
    1. Data backup and protection.
    2. Redundancy for important data.
    3. Necessitated ideal space for large media files for collections of pictures, videos, and music etc.
While ever changing in price, typical portable 2.5” external hard drives in USB3 run roughly $65 for 1TB or $120 for 2TB small portable USB3 hard drives. Such drives range in thickness between 5mm and 15mm, with recent improvements in storage of 500GB drives in 5mm profiles.
There is almost no premise in which a small 12mm thick 1 Terabyte USB hard drive cannot be taken along with any Macbook as an external large storage extension inside any Macbook carry case or pouch. Typically such external HD profiles are not much bigger than a deck of cards.
External hard drives are a foregone necessity for purchase with any Macbook for at the very least Time Machine backups, data redundancies, and ideally for large media storage.
    Parking it
75% of the data that's stored on someone’s notebook from countless studies has not been accessed for more than one year. Keeping this ‘dusty’ data on your notebook SSD is bad due to:
    1. Internal SSD/HD bloat.
    2. Encourages the hazardous and lazy practice of pivoting important data on your SSD, which can fail, be stolen, lost, destroyed, and which would result in serious data loss.
    3. Such data needs to be parked into passive external HD archives.
On any SSD drive, unless you are using the data at least every month or so, or more accurately on a regular basis every couple of weeks, it is extremely unlikely that data needs to be or should be on your internal SSD as static data and wasting space when it should be on an external hard drive instead.
The best use of large media files on external portable slim hard drives is to load the media when needed from your external HD to your Macbook, consume it, then delete it from your internal SSD, leaving it on your external for use again later at some point.

  • Why does AppleTV 2 not buffer itunes movies

I have tried to order two movies through iTunes to watch on my ATV2 and each of them have indicated that they will be available for watching in over an hour. This is unacceptable! Why are the movies not buffered? Why can't part of the movie be loaded and started why mthe rest is loading.
Please do not tell me that this is my internet connection problem because that is not the right answer. If this device can play movies instantly from other soources it should be able to do so through iTunes. I have had this product for a year now and have yet to watch a movie from iTunes.
My husband actually ordered this movie on Saturday to watch Sunday night and when we went to watch it it still needed to download. I would like to get a refund for this movie.

That's exactly what does happen, the movie is downloaded and at the point the Apple TV calculates that enough has downloaded that the rest can download while playing without catching up with itself and stopping, it starts the movie.

It very likely is your internet connection, the reason you see different loading times from different sources is because the movies are of different qualities, HD iTunes movies are up to 10 times the size of netflix movies and consequently can take up to 10 times longer to download.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
My husband actually ordered this movie on Saturday to watch Sunday night and when we went to watch it it still needed to download. I would like to get a refund for this movie.
It only needed downloading again because you had either used the Apple TV for something else or allowed it to be turned off, both of which erase anything on its drive. If you don't have sufficient bandwidth to your internet connection either order SD movies or download to your computer for viewing later.
