Itunes multiple libraries question, Help!!

first all thanks for any help that is provided....
my situation is this:
i have a MBP w/ an 80 gb HD. i have about 80-100 GB of videos and another 30GB of music that i would like to be able to store on my Apple tv and Ipod. i first tried using an external HD to store it all, but ITunes would change my music folder path on me.
so then i found out about multiple libraries, my question is this:
Can an ipod be synced to multiple libraries that are all on the same computer?
or anyone have any suggestions on how i can do this?

Hey acrahm,
The iPods that support Manually manage mode can sync with multiple libraries.

  • I want to set up an iPod for my dad... (Multiple Libraries Question)

My dad has a early Shuffle (back when HP made 'em), and has grown tired of no screen and all. Being technologically deficient as he is, I was going to give him my old iPod Video for Father's Day (since I'm getting the iPhone, hopefully), and have it loaded full of stuff.
If I use that Multiple Libraries deal, I can make a library for him, with his taste in music (that I want to stay far away from my library), and it won't affect my library at all, right? Max, I'd go into this library once a month, while I use my library every other day.

It is possible to have multiple libraries in a single account and use each one for a different iPod without affecting the other. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library but if you are only going to update your Dad's iPod periodically this shouldn't be an issue:

  • ITunes multiple libraries - how?

Like many people, I’m looking forward to buying the new iPodTouch. I’ll be getting the 16GB model, but before I do I have a question regarding iTunes.
I have a large music collection, about 50GB, which fills up my current 5th generation iPod (plus a bit of room for video and photos).
Now, I use iTunes as my music player on my MacBook Pro. It has all my music beautifully organised and works great. Whenever I get some new music, I load it into iTunes, synch it to my thrd generation iPod, and away I go.
BUT, when I buy the new 16GB iPodTouch, iTunes is going to copy only a fraction of my music library. The rest won’t fit on it.
What I need, therefore, are 2 music libraries. One, the main one, will contain ALL my music, for use on my MacBook Pro. The other will contain about 10GB of my favourite stuff to go on my iPodTouch (plus photos and videos).
My question is, how do I create TWO music libraries to do this task? TWO SEPARATE LIBRARIES, which won’t interfere with each other? So, when I connect my iPodTouch, it won’t automatically synch the first 10GB of songs in my 60GB library. It will synch ONLY to my specific 10GB library.
I don’t want, and shouldn’t need to, create a hard disk partition to separate my full library from my selected library by installing TWO copies of iTunes. This problem must be one faced by many users of the new iPhone, who only have 8GB of space for their music but who want to keep ALL their music in iTunes.
There must be an easy way to do this. Any ideas?

You don't even need to set up a second library. You can sync mor than one ipod to the same library and each iPod can be synced in its own way. So you can sync just specific playlist to the new iPod or even manually manage it while the other iPod sync everything automatically.

  • ITunes multiple Libraries?  Migrating, etc.

I have an iTunes Library that has, over time, become disordered with files that can't be found, etc. I want to clean it up and I think starting over is the best bet.
But, my first question is can I have multiple Library directories under iTunes - this would make it easy to copy-and-paste the valid content, then migrate it.
The next question is if I start over, is there a FAQ about how to rebuild your iTunes library, while weeding out the files that cannot be found. From the UI, I don't think you can copy-and-paste into another folder (I could be wrong).
Either way, it's gonna be a bit of tedious work.
I'm running the latest iTunes 9.0.1 on Snow Leopard 10.6.1.
    Thanks!

You might want to try this script first http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunestrackcpr

You can have an alternate iTunes library, but you can't have them both open at once. You can create an alternate library and then select it to import all your files by using File -> Add to Library and selecting your iTunes music (or media) folder.

  • Itunes multiple id question.

Ok, I have iTunes on my Macbook Pro and my Mom has it on her Windows pc system. She also has an iPod. She has one iTunes account and I have another iTunes account. If I were to log into her account on my computer, would I be able to connect her iPod to my computer without messing up the music that is on her iPod at this time? Would I need to authorize my computer before doing this(I think would need to do that but just to confirm it)? If I do do this, would it mess up the authorization under my own account? I wouldn't think it would mess up my authorization but again I want to confirm this. The whole point of this is really to help her with the iPod without having to keep going back to her computer which is a desktop.
    Thanks,
    Patrick Raiford.

You need to put her iTunes library on your computer and may need to authorize your computer with her Apple ID. This won’t interfere with your own data.

  • ITunes iMatch playlist question/help - Pretty Please!

I need help! I currently use iTunes iMatch and have all my playlist setup but now I only want to have some (like 5) of those playlists to sync to my iPhone 5, how do I do that?! I cannot figure it out! Please help me! Thank you!

Hi! Thank you for the reply. This is going to sound really lame ... but what do you mean "remove playlists from the cloud"? I don't want to remove the playlists, I just don't want them to sync to my iPhone 5. I only want certain playlists to play on my iPhone and everything (even the playlist i want sync'd to my iPhone) to stay on iTunes and all my other devices. Now that I write it out, I'm not sure if that even makes sense to me. Geez.

  • Itunes multiple libraries

I have three Ipods; Nano 3rd Gen (4GB & 8GB) and Touch 16GB. I have looked at articles which say that I can make different libraries, or select a particular library by holding down shift when starting Itunes.
When I hold down the shift and start Itunes, I don't get a dialog box at all, Itunes just starts as if I hadn't pressed the shift key.
Can anyone give me any pointers please.
    Many thanks

    Hello Joe,
So you click to open up iTunes and then immediately press the Shift key? Or are you doing these two things in the reverse order?
Are you opening iTunes by clicking its icon on your Desktop of opening it from the list of Start Menu programs?

  • ITunes Multiple Libraries and iCloud.

I currently have two separate iTiunes libraries. One 'home' library (mainly music) stored on an external HD (my Time Capsule) and one 'work' library (mainly language CDs and downloaded Podcasts) held on my Macbook Pro. I use the same Apple ID for both.
I would want to continue to keep these separate in the future, and I am concerned that iCloud implementation, with automatic synchronisation, might try to 'mix' the two.
Does anyone know if maintaining separate libraries like this is still posssible with iCloud??
    Currently using iTunes 10.2.2
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Assuming each library uses the same iTunes account, iTunes match will amalgamate all your content.

  • Ipod and Itunes multiple libraries

My girlfriend and I share an Ipod. We have separate Itunes accounts. I understand you can only sync one itunes account per Ipod. How can we transfer songs we purchase between the two accounts to the one ipod without losing other tracks on the ipod we don't have in both our accounts?

  • HELP! - iTunes 7 Multiple Libraries - iTunes Music Folder Location

I've created two libraries with the new multiple libraries feature on iTunes 7, but it appears that there is no way to choose separate folder locations for each of the libraries. I tried to do this and ended up with all of my songs in one folder, which is what I don't want. I would like to have would like to have two libraries, one for regular music and one for Christmas music, and I would like to choose a separate location/folder for each library. I keep all of my music on an external hard drive - I don't have enough room on my internal hard drive. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?

Shift key thing is cool. But I agree, why not let us switch while in program. Itunes Library manager seems to be a better bet still and keeps hard drive clean.

I use this to keep sound effects and music in two libraries and it works great.

  • Supposed support for Multiple Libraries in iTunes 7

Come on Apple, your website says iTunes 7 supports multiple libraries in multiple locations, yet there is no way to enable a second library or create additional libraries through iTunes. Is this just hype about the tedious manual workaround of not having iTunes copy everything to one location? When will we get true multiple libraries? This is sorely missing functionality for anyone with a harddrive smaller than 250GB.
    Quoted from http://www.apple.com/itunes/overview/
    "Multiple Libraries
Build your collection over multiple libraries, and keep them on different hard drives to save space."

I think there are a large number of us who are in the "for some reason" category: we want to have our libraries split across multiple HD's.
    Here's my exact scenario:
I have a small portion of my library stored locally on my PowerBook for when I am on the road (~30GB). I have the bulk of my music collection stored on an external drive at home (~160GB). I have another set of tracks that are works in progress that my band is in the process of writing/recording, stored on a 2nd external drive at our studio (~10GB). I want to be able to plug in any of the external drives, and have access to that content whenever I am at home or at the studio, without having to change the local library stored on my PowerBook.
Consolidating the library does not help at all in this scenario - not only does the complete library not fit on my PB's hard drive, but I also don't want the reverse, which is to consolidate to one external drive which I'd then have to carry around everywhere. iTunes should be smart enough to recognize different library files concurrently, and store the import/organize settings per library. I guess that's too much to ask...

  • Support for multiple libraries on iTunes server

    Hi All
I need help to understand if the following is possible, and if so, how I can best go about getting this working.
I have all of my music on my server, which iTunes can see.  Why I try and use Homeharing on my iPad it just takes too long to create the music library on the iPad (i waited about 3 minutes and gave up).  Therefore I had an idea.  Currently all of my music is in a library called My Music.  What I was thinking was that if I could seperate the music out so that multiple libraries were available via Homesharing on the ipad i could choose a suitable library, and not have to wait to load the entire music library each time.
Therefore, I thought I'd start with an easy split - creat a library of music for my young daughter.  That way she can have access to her music, and I never need to see it within my library.  I 've gone into itunes to create a new library for her music, but the only way i can se to create a new library is to log on as a different usr in iTunes.
All i ultimately want is a solution whereby i can have multiple libraries available whenever we open up the Homesharing option in iPad / Ipod Music player app.  Is this possible?

As of this morning I can't get Home Sharing to work on either of my iPhones. It gets stuck at 3/4ths the way through and I can watch my battery percentage drop in front of me. My phones get warm trying

  • I got married, and my wife and I have multiple libraries with several iTunes id's how do we consolidate all of our music

how do we consolidate multiple libraries? My wife had 2 or 3 different apple id's she changed emails and forgot passwords. please help

    Apparently, you cannot do that:
Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
If you have made purchases using more than one ID, call Apple Support and state your case. I have heard that they may be able to do something to help you.
I do not know why Apple makes it so easy to create Apple IDs; they suggest creating them left and right, but make it very difficult to undo once a person realizes how bad it is to use multiple Apple IDs for the same purpose, for example, iTunes Store, or App Store purchases.

  • I have multiple iTunes Previous Libraries

Are those songs in the iTunes library on the computer the device is normally synced with?  If so, sync them to the device.
