Itunes Multiple library problem

hi all...
on sunday i decided to make a library for different music - because i didn't want the songs on my ipod and i didn't want to auto update. my normal library is 15gb.
today, when i went to open itunes (for the first time since this) it opened to the new library. I tried opening iTunes while pressing shift (is this right?) to no avail. i also tried going to my original itunes library and finding the .itl file and tried opening it to no avail (new library opens).
Now, since doing that, iTunes will not open at all.... please help - those playlists and rating are precious to me - too much time.... if all else fails can i pull my playlists off my ipod (the music is still in my documents!)
thanks

Try to locate where the new songs are by right clicking on the song and asking for "get info".. then use your partners password to log on and see whether you can access the songs that way. Failing that copy the new files and add to ITunes again while loggen on as your partner. That should do the trick. Good Luck

  • Multiple library problems

I created a library for my iPod Touch and have a lot of albums in it. I recently bought an iPhone4 and created a new separate libary for it. I want to have different music on the Phone from the Touch.
When I import music from CDs into the iPhone library it puts the tracks in the iPod touch library.
How do I get iTunes to put the music in the correct places?
    Thanks,

  • Itunes Multiple CD Problem

I want to burn a large playlist that must be put on 200 or more CDs because of its size. I select the list of tunes and tell the first CD to burn the tunes and I receive a message that I will need to use more than one CD. I indicate O.K. and the first CD burns normally; it's spit out and I'm asked to insert a blank CD. When I do, it burns the first group of selections over again. rather than automatically progressing to the next group of highlighted selections. It has automatically unchecked the later group of tunes although they are still highlighted during the period when the first group is being copied or burned.
Anybody have this problem? Anybody remember the automatic progression to the next group of songs, or am I losing my mind? Anybody have a solution that works automatically?

Not a solution, but surely easier and cheaper to burn this list to a data DVD and use a suitable player wherever you were planning to make use of these CD's.

  • ITunes multiple library syncing for music composed on 2nd Mac

    Gentlemen,
*I know* this question has been asked and answered before more than once. The answer is NO. I fully understand why Apple has this policy.
    Question
Syncing with two iTunes libraries in two different Macs
    *But this is my case*
I have a MBP at home with a LaCie 6TB eSATA HDD RAID box with all I need when at home. I am using around 1.7TB of space currently. The box weighs 23 lbs (11kg) so not portable.
I am happy syncing my music on the MBP when I am at home. So far so good.
I travel a lot though, every week a different country (marketing work) and happen to be a prolific composer. I have a second mac, a PowerBook G4 with Logic Pro 8 for my composing. When I am at home use a vintage Fender valve amp and a Gibson guitar too... bliss. But let's not get carried away.
The issue is I do most of my music creation (1 or 2 full songs, lyrics and all) every week so have a few albums in my PowerBook G4 when I am in, say, China.
    *Issue to resolve*
I need to be able to sync MY OWN CREATIONS into my iPhone when I am away, but the message is always the same "...this will erase all your music and replace it with...".
I need this to, while I spend 9 hours flying over Siberia, be able to listen to my partially completed musical work on the iPhone and make notes, to improve it etc. next time I get the time in the next hotel with the second Mac plugged to the wall.
How do mobile music composers working on a mobile music station (my PowerBook G4) who also have at home a normal music collection keep it all in sync?
_I need an expert to explain to me if there is anything Apple sells as part of Logic or whatever that will let me sync my creations on this second mac without losing my usual music when I am in (let's change country) Russia._
    Appreciate the help,
    best regards
Signed: a happy marketing professional, prolific musician and frustrated Apple customer

    Thanks,
    had seen that before.
I am actually looking for something that Apple may offer for (many many many) customers who are music creative people using Apple's software and hardware exclusively (so the real good customers, right?) and work on the move on a G4 or MacBook Air and at home with a bigger box/laptop but cannot use their iPhone for both.
As a last resort I may try your advice....
    cheers..

  • ITunes Music lIbrary Sharing problems; repeatedly asks to authorize computer after it has already been successfully authorized

Having a very frustrating issue. I want to share music from my iMac's iTunes Music Library to my MBP. Purchased music plays fines on my iMac but not on the MBP. I can see the iMac's shared iTunes library from iTunes on my MBP. I have successfully authorized both of my computers using the same iTunes account username and password. When I try to play any purchased iTunes music on the MBP, it asks me to authorize the MBP again. Then it verifies that it is already authorized. Trying to play the same song again asks me to authorize my computer again at iTunes, over and over, ad nauseum. I can log into my iTunes account from both computers (via iTunes) which verifies that the username and password are correct. Both computers have the same version of the MacOS and iTunes, 10.5.8 & 10.4.1, respectively. It does this from multiple user accounts on the MBP. I went to iTunes and deauthorized both computers and reauthorized them again, no change. I uninstalled iTunes & all iTunes preferences and downloaded a fresh iTunes 10.4.1 from Apple, no change. I searched the Apple Communities and tried the suggested fixes in the knowledgebase article,  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1389  with no change.  I also ran Disk Utility and rebuilt disk permissions but there were no problems found.
Short of doing clean install of the OS or even a reformat and restore, does anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem, the only way to fix it is to oddly enough de-authorize your computer and reauthorize it and you'll have the correct number of authorized computer again.
I do not know why iTunes does this maybe someone else can explain why?

  • I previoulsy have adding many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. And I could the CDs in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music but won't play it. Why

I have added many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. Then I could the play them in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music library but won't play any of it becuase "the original could not be found". If I attach my iPhone, then it pays them through the iPhone, but still not through the library in iTunes. How can I get the music library on my iPhone to transfer (i.e. restore it) to iTunes? I have iPhone 4S but have not upgraded to the iOS 6, and have not had any problems until last week.  Help!  Thanks.

Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.
How to restore data to your PC is outside the scope of these forums.

With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Reboot and see if all is well
In case that your OS is Windows 7 (64 bit)
    1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    2. Copy file "SQLite3.dll"
    3. Open new windows explorer, to to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support

  • Question about upgrading iTunes multiple computers with shared library

    Greetings,
I have a question about upgrading to the current version of iTunes.
Currently, my household uses 3 Mac computers (2 Powerbook 17in laptops and a Mack Mini). We are all (currently) on system 10.4.11 (with iTunes 9.2.1). Between the 3 computers we have a shared iTunes music and video library on a networked high capacity hard drive.
We recently purchased an iPad. In order to make it easy for updates and to use media from our iTunes shared library I decided that we should upgrade the systems on our home computers to Snow Leopard. I have ensured that all the computers have at lease 2 Gb of RAM and adequate hard drive space.
The only possible problem I see is that one of the Powerbook laptops uses the old Motorola processor. (This is one of the last Powerbooks to use that processor.) I don’t think this computer can be upgraded to Snow Leopard.
My question is, if I upgrade 2 of the computers (and iTunes in the process), will I still be able to access the shared iTunes library using the older computer with the older system and iTunes? Will the upgrade process change the iTunes library in such a way that the one older computer will no longer be able to properly access that library?
Are there any other problems I might encounter having a mixed system/iTunes environment?
    Thank you,
    Tim

Just a thought. Should I somehow open iTunes on MBP2 using MBP1's Library file??
both Macs can access the same library file, however, only one at a time !
to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
or, you could have two separate libraries and keep those in sync using third party tools such as Syncopation, TuneRanger or SuperSync.
for purchases from the iTunes store, you could set up _*Home Sharing*_ - it can be configured to automatically transfer new purchases to home shared libraries.
Can I create a script to have MBP1 always save the iTunes Library file on the shared hard drive?
    no need.

  • Older itune version 10.6 trying to reinstall, library problem?

I reinstalled older itune version 10.6 on Win7 after I reformatted the drive.
    1. Now i have a  library problem? the itunes will not open and i get a message "itunes library.itl" is from newer pgm. how can i work around it?
    2. i want to restore my itunes music library like it was before with the old libray i had from my backup, how can i do that?

your serial number is for an upgrade version.  you need to prove you have a qualifying upgrade product.
after you enter your upgrade serial number and the installer failing to find a previous version, you should be given the option to choose the previous version and enter its (the older version's) serial number.
if that's not working, what version are you trying to install and why didn't the above work?

I don't know who/what Indira Budiman is, but you can contact iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
If it's an app then does it allow you to make in-app purchases within it ? If it does then you can turn off in-app purchases via Settings > General > Restrictions on your device.

  • Consolidating itunes media library-how to shorten file names or how to find the file that is creating the problem?

Hi I've switched to Mac for six months now, so is still new to mac and I am using my old 1TB windows PC side by side for my music collection. Now I have seen the posts already in apple community about consolidating itunes music library but could not get the proper way of doing it. My system and itunes is also saying 'file name is too long' and it stops but the questin is how do I know which file is creating the problem and how do I shorten it?
If anybody can answer I'll be obliged to him/her, because its my 6/7 years of music collection stuck in an old pc. Thanks in advance.
    - Javed

By 'it stops' I meant the consolidation process in itunes stops.

  • Using External Hard Drive as storage for iTunes Library - Problems

I currently use an external hard drive to store my iTunes music, does anyone know why when I copy folders to iTunes library, duplicates appear - sometimes 2 or 3 copies of same song, same artist, album everything. A trud copy. Also, when you are setting up your music folder on the External Hard drive, would you copy from C: the entire iTunes tree - ie. iTunes/iTunes music/iTunes library or just have one folder called iTunes library? Also, when specifying location for finding music in preferences, again would you use entire tree of just iTunes music library.

See Dave Sawyer's post here - it's the easiest way
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1866272&tstart=0
Also, make sure Windows assigns a drive letter that won't change

  • Import iTunes Media Library, some files were not found problem

    Hi guys,
I am trying to restore my music library info via importing from iTunes Media Library xml file I backed up. During import, iTunes gave me error message box saying that some files were not found and therefore won't get imported. After it's done, I checked the iTune and I noticed many of the music files did not get imported at all, even their locations are correct. Is it because iTunes stopped importing at the first entry that it found its location not existed and therefore skipped the rest all along? Even later ones might be valid. Is this the case?
Is there an easy way to find out what those entries are? So perhaps I could go and edit them directly in the xml file. The message box did not give much information
Any help would be really appreciated,
    Thanks alot

    Hi Chris
I have now experimented a little more and discovered that although Time Capsule (TC) is showing in Finder as a Shared Drive at laptop startup (and showing a status of a connected user, me) it is not actually 'mounted' in the true sense of the word i.e. the unmount/eject symbol is not showing next to it nor either of the drives connected to the TC. By clicking on either of the 2 drives (i.e. the TC 'Data' disk or the TC USB-connected drive) the status changes to show the dismount symbol on both the selected drive and the TC in the Finder side bar. Launching iTunes after this intervention works every time as per your advice. Not the Apple 'it just works' that I have come to expect and appreciate but at least I now understand how to make it work reliably..........many thanks and I hope Apple just makes it work sometine in the future

  • ITunes 7 - 4 problems I've encountered. Please help!

First, I am not getting any error messages. These are just problems I have noticed.
1.) When I try to "Add folder to Library", it only adds 1 song on the first try, no matter how many new music files I have in the folder that are not already in the library. All are .mp3 btw. I could only add new files earlier, by reloading iTunes, and now at this point, it does not even work. The only other way is for me to manually enter each file individually, using the "Add File to Library" option. But that is too tedious with the amount of files I want to add. This is first and foremost the main thing I want fixed.
2.) When I do attempt to add a folder to library, it starts going through the "Processing Album Artwork" process. Why? Don't know. It only did this one time with iTunes 6, and never again.
3.) When I put a music CD in my drive, it shows up on iTunes, but none of the album info is retrieved. I've tried multiple CDs, and none work. And some of these are albums I ripped using iTunes 6, and the album info was retrieved off of that. Now before anyone asks, iTunes appears to be uplinking to get the album info. No luck.
4.) Lastly, when I have a CD in, there is no import button for ripping the music anymore. It's just non existent.
One last thing, is it possible to retrograde back to iTunes 6? All these problems are really putting me off.

add this 3: iPod doesn't show artwork any more, when it is "optimized" by itunes 7 (6 works well, for 2 ipods)
Error -50 using old (itunes 6) library (trying to "optimize" artwork), had to create a new one on itunes 7.
Half of the ipods (statistics based on both mine and my brother's ipod) didn't upgrade to 1.2, because of the 1417 error (no, the unplug-plug trick didn't work)
    List growing fast...
