ITunes music and app recovery

A couple months ago my house burned and I lost my computer that had my iTunes on it as well as all of my back up discs. I did get my iPhone out though. My question is there a way to recover or re-download all of my purchases for free?

As far as apps downloaded from the appstore, you should be able to re-download them for free.(http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1469) Music and videos seems to be a different story.
You may be able to contact apple and ask them to allow you to re-download your purchased songs, but I'm not sure what they can do.
Some people have also been asking about transferring their music from an ipod to a different computer. While this is something that isn't possible through iTunes, there may be 3rd party software out there that can extract your music from your device. I suggest searching for what software options are out there.
Good luck,
~Bill L.

  • Itunes music and apps question

I was just wondering if you could get any type of virus or spyware from downloading music and apps (free apps and non-free apps) from itunes. Thanks for the help in advance!

I've never had any problems with that. I've been getting the free singles of the week since sometime in 2004.
Most malware from song files comes from torrent downloads.
Illegal free downloads, in other words, where you don't have a reputable source, like itunes or amazon.

  • ITunes Music and Apps in C Drive

I'm using iTunes in Windows. It is storing all the imported Music files and apps in C drive which is taking upto 15 GB.
All the apps are already available in my iPhone and iPad. If I need to install any deleted app I can download and install. So is there anyway to prevent app backup while syncing?
Also all my music files are available in D Drive. So is there any way to prevent backup of music files in C Drive?

Open Finder. Press shift+command+H. Go to Music>iTunes. Drag and drop the iTunes Contents folder onto iTunes (you should see a green + sign when you mouse over).

  • Itunes music and apps back

how can i get what i already bought back

    Hello j.vogt,
Music is 1 time only download, but Apps can be redownloaded for free.  For more information, see this document.

It might not hurt to at least try and contact iTunes support and describe your situtation to them.  There's a chance they might let you redownload your music.  To contact iTunes support, use this form.

  • My computer and ipod crashed deleting all of my itunes music and apps how do i restore my full itunes account?

My computer was struck by lightning completly erasing all of hard drive and memory. Along with that my ipod touch 4th generation crashed and just got it rebooted but don't have any of my music, movies, or apps on it. So i redownloaded itunes and signed into my account but all of my music is gone along with my apps. How do I get back my music onto my itunes on my computer?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to do this, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

  • My husband and I have separate iTunes accounts and multiple devices (iPads, iPhones, iPods etc) how do we share our music and apps between our devices if we have different iTunes accounts.

Help! My husband and I have multiple devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod ) that we we have linked to individual iTunes accounts ie he has his account with iPad, iPhone, PC and iPod linked/sync and I have my account with iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, PC etc.. How do we share our music and apps across/between our accounts?

It probably means that only one of you can use iCloud or at least sync calender/contacts with it. I would guess that you could manually manage the other phone as you have before.

  • My itunes will not start in Win XP. I get an error that says MSVCR80.dll can't be found. I am scared if I just reinstall iTunes that I will lose all my music and apps that are in the old itunes. What can I do.

My iTunes will not start in Win XP. I am getting an error that says MSVCR80.dll can't be found. I am concerned that if I just do a reinstall
of  iTunes it will overwrite or delete all the music and apps I have on the current app that won't start. When I boot the PC I get the following:
APSDaemon.exe - unable to locate. MSVCR80.dll not found. Reinstalling application may fix this problem. How can I get iTunes started without losing
all my music and apps? Thanks

It won't unless a problem occurs. Back them up, uninstall iTunes and all related components, and reinstall them.

  • If i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it as the option 'set up as new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos and ect?

if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...
and i hope you understand my problem..
i would REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me a solution to my problem!!! thank you so much!

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • I just got an iPod touch 4th generation for my daughter. I already have a iPhone 5 setup with iTunes. All I want to put on her iPod is music and apps. How do I set the iPod to only get that information using my iTunes?

I just got a new iPod Touch 4th generation for my daughter. I have a iPhone 5 that is already set up on iTunes. The only thing I want on her iPod from my iTunes is music and apps. How do I set her iPod up so that it only gets that information? Do I set it up as a new device? If so will that alter my iTunes?
    Thanks.

You can set up more than one device on your computer, and iTunes will remember the settings for each of them:
How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
But you'll have to use your Apple ID to sync bought media to her device. Disable all other things you don't want to sync like photos, contacts, etc.

  • My wife and I share an iTunes account, if I create her own account can she still access all the music and apps we have purchased together over the years?

My wife and I have been sharing an iTunes accound and library on our own iPods then iPhones for years without much trouble. Now, Mai ly because of the cloud and a new desktop, I think it's time to create her own account but I don't want to have to repurchase all her music and apps. Is this poosible?
    Thanks!

Yes, with the credentials of the account that the media/content was purchased with.
Content is permanently tied to the account it is purchased with and cannot be merged, moved, or transferred to another account.

  • My dad and I shared an iTunes account for years and now I'm getting my own, how can I keep my music and apps?

My dad and I shared an iTunes account for years and now I'm getting my own, how can I keep my music and apps? I'm worried that I won't have any ability to access my apps and music. We have our itunes separated on different computers, so I have all of my stuff separated from his, but I don't know how to put them in my new account.

Well... there really isn't any fully legal way to do this.
The simplest solution is to continue sharing the same iTunes purchasing acct, but create different ones for iCloud (assuming that's why you needed to do the split).
Slightly less kosher: Burn AUDIO CD's, of the music then copy them back to your new account.
BE sure to do this from original acount, To keep the music info, you'll  copy over the CDDB file (in prefs somewhere) - since this maintains the data of CDs that you've had in library.... (it isn't carried over onto a user created CD.)
