ITUNES MUSIC ARTWORK QUESTION

Hi there iTunes Peeps,
I recently downloaded the latest version of iTunes (I believe version 8), and now all the album artwork on my iPod Nano is messed up. Different songs by the same artist have the same artwork as the first song... this wasn't a problem with the prior versions of iTunes... Can anyone help me out here, because to be quite frank, it's very annoying when you're listening to Chris Rock's " All Summer Long" and the artwork you see in your library is by Santana... Thanks in advance.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. I think I'm confused myself, I'm sorry. The problem isn't with my iPod (again, my appologies), but with the iTunes library itself. Like when I play music from my computer... You hear for instance a song by Kid Rock and the album image/artwork that is being displayed is that of... say... Madonna... How is that possible... I un-installed and re-installed iTunes twice on my computer already, and the problem persists... When I check to see if the artwork for a song is correct, it always IS correct. But when the song is playing, it's not... I tried deleting the artworks of all songs, then added them again after I rebooted the computer... and still, same thing... I mean: HELLLPPP...

  • Itunes music sorting question, itunes is sorting part of a cd incorrectly

ok here's the problem. I just imported a cd onto my itunes music file. it was originally filed as two cd's, one with the regular cd, the second with four bonus tracks that were released on various versions of the particular cd. this is what happened. itunes put the regular cd with the other cd's I have by the artist, but the bonus songs? they were stored in a new list, same band name, in an unalphabetized location on my itunes browser. the band is called "10 years" and the regular cd is, like I stated above, filed with the rest of the ten years tracks, but the bonus material? it's stored near the top of my artist list in a now new label that says ten years. i selected all the files for the cd, put them in as one cd, with one cd title, all filed as (correct track number) of 17 tracks, and its still sorting them separately. so in summation, the regular cd's 13 tracks are filed with the rest of the ten years tracks, but the bonus songs are filed in an all new ten years artist label at the top of my artist list, instead of at the bottom where the band names that start with numbers are stored. in the six or so years i've used i tunes this has never happened. i've imported hundreds upon hundreds of cd's into itunes and this has NEVAR happened. I tried deleting the cd, after it was correctly labeled and then re importing it but to the same no effect. it still files them separately, and incorrectly i must add. lastly, the actual file location of the tracks is correct. they're all in my ten years file, all in one folder under the cd title. when i select the "correct" ten years file on my itunes browser all the songs are listed, but the bonus songs are above the regular songs on the list. so track 1-13 are UNDER track 14-17. now I know its not a big "problem" but it IS quite frustrating. I'm a little OCD about my music and dont want anything out of order or mislabeled, etc. if you have ANY idea what is causing this issue please help. i would appreciate it.

Ah, that's the same fix as I describe in One album, still too many covers. I've no idea why iTunes does this one either. Funnily enough it seems to happen sometimes when I rename an existing album which is properly grouped so I know the values must be consistent because I've only just changed them, and did so all at the same time.

  • AOL and iTunes Music Store Question

I have never been able to connect to the iTunes Music Store and I have tried everything on here multiple times. I also have AOL and I was wondering if AOL has any firewall settings that may be blocking me using the music store. Any help would be GREATLY Appreciated.

I don't know about AOL firewall settings, but I'm pretty sure I've seen some posts about them having a software accelerator that blocks iTMS.

  • Itunes Album Artwork Question

Why does itunes sometimes display multiple album covers for one particular album?
It does not do this for all albums just some at random. These albums are not compilation albums either and have been performed by the same person.

I have noticed this on the Mac also. Especially noticeable when two tracks are next to each other in alpha order. This is a recent issue, as have not seen it until recently.
Perhaps is some confusion when iTunes looks for artwork and there are several versions of artwork at the search site.
Also had the problem of some older CD inputs not finding the cover art and having to go to Amazon to cut/paste their artwork and then manually putting into iTunes.

  • Post iTunes Match Artwork Question

I ran through about 10,000 songs in my collection and got them up to the cloud via iTunes Match.  That all went well.  Except I'd say about 2,000 of them don't have any artwork.   I'm going though and changing that, but hat's on local files.
Once I change them, how do I go about getting the version of the uploaded file up there with the art?  The only way I can find is to delete them locally and from the cloud, and then readd 'em and re-run the match.   Is there a way to delete a track from the cloud and leave it locally?  If I could do that, I could re-run the match without having to destroy my local metadata like playcounts and things like that.

I've noticed that if I simply Store/update iTunes Match from within iTunes and then view the album on my iPhone, the "updating circle symbol" in the top left where the wi-fi symbol is will start to spin.  It takes a bit, 30 seconds to a minute, but eventually my album art will appear.

  • Credit Card + iTunes Music Card Question

I have $15 worth of credits on iTunes, but when I tried to pre-order the new Franz Ferdinand, I received a message that said it would charge my credit card upon downloading.
Will my credit be charged, or will my credits be deducted?
    Thank you.

If you sign in to the store (click your store ID/e-mail address, enter your password), how does it report the credit? If you have a credit, your ID should be replaced in that area of the display with either the amount of cash credit or a number of songs credit.
The difference is quite important. If it's a "song" based credit, those cannot be used to purchase an "album", they can only be used on individual songs. In other words, you have to click "Buy Song" for each song on the album. I doubt an album available through pre-order supports that method of purchase.

  • ITunes and Album Artwork question on Mac with two users

Hey everyone, I have what I hope is a pretty simple question. Right now, on my iMac, I have 2 user accounts, one for me and one for my wife. I wanted us to be able to share all of our music, so when I was setting up the computer, I put the iTunes Music Library in a /User/Shared/Music directory. Then, inside iTunes, for both users, I pointed to this new library. Everything here works great. When I add a song under 1 user, I just have to go to Add to Library under the other user and the songs are added. Works fine.
My main question is about the album artwork. I recently spent a lot of time under my user account going through and making sure I have all of the album artwork for every song we have in our library. I never thought about checking this on my wife's account, but when I did I realized that all of the stuff I added is not there. Anyway, I did some checking and found out that the album artwork is stored in each users Music directory. I did some reading on the web, and what I did was move my album artwork folder to the /Users/Shared/ directory, then created a symbolic link in my user directory to the shared folder. I did the same in my wife's account. I thought this would do the trick but it hasn't changed anything. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks so much for your time.

The artwork is stored in Music/iTunes/Artwork.
iTunes handles everything in that folder when iTunes adds it to the database.
This info is maintained in the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder.
iTunes will not do anything by copying or pointing to the artwork folder in your folder.
Unless you are both using the same iTunes library file, you will need to get your own artwork.
I put the iTunes Music Library
Do you mean the iTunes music folder?
Here's a way to do what you want.
Move your *iTunes folder* to the shared directory.
Open iTunes holding Option and select *Choose existing library*.
Select the iTunes library file in the Shared directory.
    Everything should work fine.
    Quit iTunes.
Move the *iTunes music folder* from /User/Shared/Music directory into the *iTunes folder* you moved into the Shared directory.
    Start iTunes. Everything should work.
    Quit iTunes.
    Log into your wife's account.
Start iTunes holding the Option key, select *Choose existing library* and select the *iTunes library file* in the iTunes folder you moved into the Shared directory.
Everything should be there including all artwork.
Each user needs to quit iTunes before the other user can open it.
Shouldn't be a problem since you are using the same computer.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

    i'm using iTunes 10 BTW

Hello, I got a new computer with the old harddisk. Can't play my itunes music because not authorised. Apple ID is very old e-mail adress that doesn't exist anymore and I forgot the password (5 years old??). When chose for secret question birth date seems wrong. Tried everything. I need to make a new apple-id but cannot connect the music that I bought under my old name to my new name. Can't reach anyone!!! Automatic FAQ system is of no help. What to do?

That doesn't help me. For itunes it brings me to the express lane which doesn't help because my case is not in it. It's all standard procedure things. I understand those but my situation is different. The combination of a passport forgotten and an non-existing email adress (and birth dates that are not correct or not accepted). What I need is my password emailed to another email adress than the original one because that no longer exists.

  • Album artwork not found for album in iTunes music store

I have ripped the Foo Fighters album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace CD and was hoping to grab the album artwork in iTunes, but iTunes claims "Artwork for 'Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace' could not be found".
I have double checked the spelling of the artist and album names, as well as checked for errant spaces or other characters, but I don't see why iTunes doesn't want to download this album art.
Has anyone overcome an issue like this before?
    Thanks.

    Tom Cassel wrote:
Yes, statistically you are correct. Although when you take into account that additional art enclosed in each song could in some cases cause a single file to tip over into the next 'block' of disk space (is HFS+ using 4K blocks these days?), and multiply that by the 13,600 songs I have ripped into my iTunes database, it is not something that interests me.
But if you're only missing a few album covers, then adding them manually won't add much space. I let iTunes find what it can find, then add the few it doesn't find manually.
And yes, if you look at my previous posts I have double-checked and even re-entered by hand the artist and album names to exactly match the ITMS entries with no success.
You wouldn't be able to detect, for instance, an extra space at the end of an album name. It's also possible that the artwork database doesn't exactly match the displayed data in the iTunes Store. You might be right that it's a problem with your iTunes, though; mine is almost never unable to download artwork.

  • Another "Moving my itunes music" question...

I too have recently purchased a new computer and have already move my itunes music folder via "target disk mode" from my G4 to my Dual Core. (Both systems operate itunes7)
I have also exported my playlist and library files from the G4 and have the music folder too.
I see a lot of confilicting information in the discussions specific to my situation. Rather than screw up my new computer, I thought I start a new post.
Where exactly to I place the music folder and the exported playlist/library files?
I know by placing the .xml files into my library folder, itunes will show my playlists, but not the music files.
I don't have any downloaded itunes songs and don't care about playcounts, etc. I just want my playlist and library to mimic my g4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

You need to move your entire iTunes folder including the iTunes Music folder and you put these back into Username/Music/.
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
