Itunes music disappearing from library

I recently got a new laptop and copied all my music across however after working perfectly for weeks I found that when I went on to itunes all my music had disappeared from my library. I then transferred it again and it did the smae, as in it worked fine for a while and then was empty again. This has happened 3 times now and it is really frustrating. Another thing I have noticed is that I find an itunes genius file and an itunes extra file in my recycle bin, when I havent deleted them??

I have a similar problem. My internet wasn't working properly on my screen name for my computer, so my mom made me a whole new one for when i loggin to my computer. She transferred all my old files to my new sn and when I went to open my itunes, my library was completely empty... so i went back on my old sn to open it up and it was also empty... I don't know what happened, and i'm freaking out can anyone help me

  • How do you stop synched iTunes music disappearing from my iPhone 5?

I have about 35G of music on my iTunes on my iMac, a good % of it having been purchased on ITunes.  The music sync setting for my iPhone 5 is automatic / everything.
For the past couple of months, I've been noticing music disappearing from my iPhone when it's offline (eg on the plane, when I listen to my music on my iPhone the most).  Such music would come back as "in the cloud" when I regain wifi / data access.  I would then download them onto my iPhone again.  And then they would disappear again!  How can I stop such annoying behavior?  Does switching music sync to manual help?  Thank you.

    Hello claire267
In the Messages app, in the drop down menu go to Messages > Preferences. Once there click the Accounts tab and then remove the iMessage account and that will stop all messages associate with your phone number from showing up on your computer.

  • Music disappearing from library

It seems i'm not alone in this problem.  Is iTunes doing anything about it for anyone?

Me too. My laptop just updated to Windows 8.1 and I lost a lot of songs.
Can't scan wirelessly anymore either. Love these updates.

  • Music disappeared from itunes

I have done nothing to my computer but I loaded up iTunes this evening to find that all my playlists and more importantly, the music, has been deleted!
Thankfully I managed to find the track on my hard drive and then imported the 'My Music' folder back into iTunes.
However, all my 'play counts' and star ratings have disappeared and so have the playlists.
Is there a way to get these back?

umm...very new to iTunes (and to Mac,) building an iTunes Music folder from CDs mainly to have tracks to use in videomaking.
Started recently to have tracks come up flagged with exclamation point and message box saying "original file cannot be found, do you want to search for it?" I can always locate them, but it's cumbersome.
I haven't read the iTunes directions (don't even really know where they are...) and have probably done all sorts of things to confuse or **** off iTunes - I've moved around folders, backed up my iTunes Music folder by just dragging it onto the external hard drive and renaming it, made little special subfolders, in short, acting like the PC user I have always been...
I know all the music I've imported is still on my Mac hard drive (and duplicated (twice) on an external hard drive,) so I'm not worried about losing it. Today I reinstalled iTunes and the new blank iTunes music folder was working fine. Ripped 2 CDs and their tracks were accessible, no exclamation points. But when I lassoed, highlighted and dragged all the album icons from one of the backup folders into the new iTunes Music folder, they had the same old problem.
Is there a way to import, copy/paste, drag or otherwise transfer the music from my backup folder into the new iTunes Music Folder so that iTunes will understand that they are there? Or, at worst, how should I proceed from now on? What would be the correct way to back up the iTunes Music Folder? (And what's the difference between the Music Folder and the Library, BTW?)
And is there anywhere I can read about this in some systematic way?
sorry for long post, thanks for any help...

  • Music disappearing from playlists after sync with itunes?

So I have a bunch of songs that I ripped from CDs or got the MP3 files from friends. I add some of them to a playlist, that's fine. But when I purchase a few songs from iTunes on my phone and add them to the playlist, they appear there temporarily. The problem happens when I sync my phone with iTunes, then all of my purchased music disappears from the playlist. It's still on my phone, but not in the playlist. Why does it do this, and how do I fix it? This is really discouraging me from using iTunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPhone glitch: Music disappears from iPhone...

For reasons unknown to myself, music has disappeared from my iPhone. I set up iTunes to look for an external hard drive for my music. So, whenever I want to play my music through iTunes, I plugged in my external HD first, and then launched iTunes. This has worked fine for a long time. Then one day, I noticed an iTunes folder on my MacBook Pro's local hard drive that contained ALL of my music. The whole point of my putting my music on an ext HD was to free up my laptop hard drive. Simple enough, yes? Common choice? Yes.
I recently changed my preferences in iTunes to NOT copy music from my iTunes Library after noticing that my entire music collection was being copied to my MacBook Pro's hard drive. Since then I've noticed music disappearing from my iPhone. Is this because of my preference change? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

My mistake. I think it's a problem with iTunes and not the iPhone. Music that I had added to my iTunes library has mysteriously disappeared.

  • Purchased Music Disappearing from iPhone?

My purchased music randomly disappears from my iPhone 6 (16GB).  This happens to some songs, not all.
    Details:
I purchase music from iTunes directly from my phone.
These are songs that I have had for months.
Go to play them and they are gone.
I go to the store and repurchase (download again).
    Why are they randomly disappearing?
    Very frustrating.

I'm having the same problem. Albums/songs that I've purchased on my iphone5 through iTunes keep disappearing from my music library. When I switch on the 'show all' setting in the iTunes and App store settings I can see it there again and download from the cloud, but it's still a pain in the *** having the keep re-downloading music that i've already downloaded! It only ever seems to be the last album I purchased that it happens to, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when or why it disappears. I thought maybe it might be to do with the overnight backup process, but my phone backs up every night when I plug it in to charge and the music doesn't disappear every night! It seems completely random. I go looking for a particular song and it just isn't there anymore. I've scoured the net but can't find a reason why this is happening.
It's an iphone5 on ios 8.0  Anybody got any ideas?

  • Somehow, my iTunes music disappeared.  I restored it with Time Machine and have all of my music.  However, my playlists and song ratings did not restore.  Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to restore my playlists and ratings?  Thanks.

Somehow, my iTunes music vanished from iTunes.  I was able to restore my music from Time Machine, but I lost my playlists and song ratings.  Does anyone know how I can restore the playlists and ratings?  Thanks in advance for any help.

iTunes as you see it is more than just a file or two.  It is all the contents of the iTunes folder including the critical library.itl file.  That holds pretty much all the information about what you see when you start iTunes.  You need to restore the whole iTunes folder, not just media files.

  • Link to iTunes music store from a web page created in iWeb

Is there a way to create a link to the iTunes music store from a web page made in iWeb. I'd like to make a list of songs, and link each one to the song on the music store.
    G5 Dual 2.7 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

James, am I right in assuming, then, that one has to
have purchased that iTune from the iTunes Store? So,
logically then, if I have song that I copied from a
CD in my iTunes, iWeb would not link to it?
Sure, you can link your own music .mp3 files this way...but it doesn't go directly to your music library. What you would do is to have a copy of your music file saved to the desktop. Then make a link to file (one of the options in the Inspector Hyperlink tab) to this music file. When you publish your page, a copy of the music file will be uploaded to your site as well...so that people clicking on the link that you made can download the file.
You can also drag in your music file to iWeb and use QT to play the music file on your webpage.

  • Copy Itune Music Files from Laptop to Windows Home Server

I just picked up an Acer easyStore unit which runs on Windows Home Server (WHS). This has an Itunes Server functionality and you can see the shared folders from this server in iTunes under "Shared". So, I copied my entire "iTunes" music folder from mu C: Drive on my laptop to my shared music folder on my WHS. Note I did not delete the original files from my C: drive nor have I changed the "Media Folder Location".
Off first glance it looked like all the files and folders copied to the server folder when I check the properties of each folder in Windows (i.e. the properties are identical). However, when I jump back and forth between my "Music" and my "Shared" Libraries within iTunes, it appears that the "Shared" library is less 110 songs (0.5 GB). Why would this be?
    Thanks

  • Itunes has disappeared from my ipad. how to get it back?

itunes has disappeared from my ipad. how to get it back?

You don't have iTunes (per se) on the iPad. There is a Music app which is an orange icon. Native apps cannot be deleted, but in the event that it has somehow disappeard you could go to Settings > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • Attempted to download a movie and movie disappears from library.

Attempted to download a movie, looks complete, but unable to sync to iPod... restart iTunes and movie disappears from library.  No files in media folder and iTunes store thinks that it has been downloaded already.  Worked with iTunes account people who were very responsive, but after multiple resends on their side, the problem continues and they suggest a local problem on my side.  Thoughts?

Hey Jerry... I ended up submitting a formal feedback issue and someone got back to me fairly quickly.  Responses are typically from an offshore team I assume, since they happen at night.  The email address that I have been corresponding with is [email protected] .  I'll keep this string posted if I make any progress... Good luck!

  • Can I copy music iTunes Music Folder from my external Hard drive to new PC?

not sure if this is possible but I copied my folders (documents/music/itunes/itunes music folder) from my local hard drive from laptop to my external (for backing up purposes) and now i have a new computer. can i just simply copy/paste this folder to my new computer and open itunes and it will be there. i know it's probably too easy but was hoping someone could help me out???? thanks.

You can by dragging them from itunes to your external drive this will copy them to it. Then do the opposite for from you drive to the new computer. Just make sure if you don't intend to keep the drive connected to your new computer. That you put copies of the songs in a folder on it before putting them on itunes or you have problems playing your songs.
