ITunes Music files taking too much space???

In my innocence, I had imagined that the storage requirements of iTunes would match those of my iPod. The iTunes programme now tells me that I have 6,694 songs in my library, using 46.43 GB of space. However, my iTunes Music directory boasts 10,278 files and occupies 75.7 GB of space, which is a real problem for me. Whence the discrepancy? When I delete files from iTunes I send them to the Recycle bin. So, what are these extra 2,600 files which occupy 35 GB of space that I cannot afford.
Help, please.

Thank you for the sensible suggestions, ed. However, it is specifically, and only, my iTunes Music folder that shows 75.7 GB; and that does not include music files stored elsewhere. Is it possible that when iTunes imports a file it stores it simultaneously both in AAC and in its original format? That would seem pointless and wasteful. As for deletion, the question is to the point and all I can say with certainty at this stage is that, when I delete a track, I click the button for deletion; so, it seems to me, these files OUGHT to be deleted. So, I remain bewildered. And irritated. And, unless someone comes up with an easier solution, shall gear myself up to go through those thousands of files individually...

I am using Iphone which is taking too much time to play music & some time its shows one album cover and playing others song please help and let me know whats the issue

    Hello Sanjay,
I would recommend steps 1, 3, and 5 from our iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant found here: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/#section_1
Here is step 1 to get you started.
    Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • My iMovie videos are taking too much space

I want to burn all my iMovie videos from my iPad to a DVD, because they are taking up too much space.  Does anybody know how to do this, or have any better suggestions?
    Thanks

You have to transfer them to a computer first how you do that depend on the type of computer
And then burn it on a dvd there are tons of free software which let you burn movies to dvds

  • How can I safely transfer my 125GB of itunes music files to free up space, but still keep itunes on my MBP, and access the music with the cloud and match?

I have already backed up all the itunes files on two different external drives. And I have already set up icloud and itunes match. I am still paranoid about deleting the files from my MBP, but I need to free the space. What steps should I take to delete the files. And can I still keep itunes (w/o all the music files) on my laptop and access the music from the cloud? I know I can run them with the external drive plugged in, but looking for a way to do it w/o pluggin in.

I have tried that as well.  The purchased songs are not in my playlists and they are still there.  I manually deleted them on the phone but the sync puts them right back on there.
I only sync playlists and they aren't on there.

  • Music files taking up internal space

I am trying to free up space on my 80GB internal HD. I am at 65GB currently. I ran disk inventory and it reported 10GB of music under my desktop folder/emusic. I do have that folder on my desktop to keep track of my downloads then I empty it. Nothing is in that folder at this time. I have an EHD with 100GB of music. What should be on my internal in regards to itunes? My itunes runs perfect with my setup. I just want to remove those 10GB of tunes without messing up.

Unless you turned off the option in iTunes to copy tracks to the iTunes Music folder when adding a track to iTunes, and you changed the location of the iTunes Music folder to be that emusic folder, then iTunes will not be depending on any tracks in any other folder and you can safely delete them. You can confirm by doing a Get Info on the track listings in iTunes and looking at the path where it shows the tracks. If none of the listings point to the emusic folder, you can clear it.

  • My songs are taking too much space

I have like 7 gigs of music in my "my music" folder and all of it is on itunes.
And in the itunes music folder theres also 7 gigs of music..
So I have double the music files and I was wondering if I deleted all the files in my music would I still have them in itunes and on my ipod?
    heres a picture
    http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/1863/musikbv0.png

Your description doesn't make sense to me. And is that picture ONE screen shot and all three folders are found in the My Music folder? Or did you paste a couple different pictures into a single picture?
Here is the way it NORMALLY is organized...
    My Music
1-> iTunes (inside My Music folder)
2--> iTunes Music (inside the iTunes folder)
Now if your picture is one screen shot, then is your folder structure like this...
    My Music
1-> iTunes (inside My Music folder)
1-> iTunes Music (inside My Music folder)
1-> music (inside My Music folder)
where all three folders are on the same level (1) as each other?

  • The "other" is taking too much space on my phone?

Its almost six gb. What could that be?

You cannot remove the core apps included with the iOS.  You could try clearing safari's cache:Clear History & Website Data.  Depending on what third party apps you use, they may have a cache clearing function as well.  Go to General->Usage then under storage tap Manage Storage.  There you will see how much space each app is using.  Sometimes deleting & reinstalling an app can clear up valuable storage space.  Cleaning up messages, emails, & photos can also free up space.
    Hope this helps!

  • Aperture taking too much space, are files duplicated?

I am trying to create more open space on my MacBook Pro, that has a 120GB hard drive, that is nearly full, mainly with photographs. First, I relocated nearly every master in all my projects on Aperture to an external hard drive. Then I checked my Pictures Folder, and the Aperture Library file still had over 30GB. I went back to Aperture and looked under Library 2007 and it seemed like all the pictures were there again, that I thought I had relocated to the external drive, every picture I had taken or imported over the past year. Are these duplicates? How do I really clear photos off my laptop to maintain clear hard drive space? Ideally, I would like to just be able to retain the selected ones (Previews?) for slide shows and keep all my raw files on an external hard drive.
    thanks very much,
    Jordan

When you relocate masters, you should still be able to see them in your library - that's the whole point of referenced masters.
The master files you relocated - how big were they combined? does their size account for the reduction in the size of the library? Do you have previews switched on and if so, what preview size are you using?
Do you have lots iof rejected images that you are hiding and may not have relocated?
Use something like 'OmniDiskSweeper' to see what's on your hard drive and taking up all the space.
    Regards,
    Steve

  • ITunes taking too much space

I'm nuit sure but I think iTunes is taking a lot of space from my Computer for backups. Is there any way I could remove the useless purchases I made?

Would probably be a good idea to find out what is actually taking up space before trying to remove items.

  • ITunes libraries are using too much space on my HD

My iMac HD has 250GB; I have two external HD with 1TB each. I'd like to make space on the iMac by putting those files on one of the externals. Is that going to be a problem? If I can do it, will it affect my Time Machine (meaning will the back up I have in the Time Machine eventually be erased with each successive back up)? Any hints or tips you have will be appreciated.
    Thank ya much,

This knowledge base article has some good tips: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
"If your hard drive is nearly full after loading all your music and other media into iTunes, or if you just want to move all those music and media files to another hard drive on your system, here's a way to make the move while retaining all your playlists, ratings, and play history."

  • Apps taking too much space

A week ago iTunes reported that my apps too about 160 MB. I bought CoPilot NA, and tried to install on the phone. After a lengthy download, and then install, it failed. I then downloaded on my computer, and synced to my phone. CoPilot works fine, but, iTunes is now reporting that I have 4 GB of apps on the phone. CoPilot NA is about 1.3 GB and I have no other "large" apps.
My guess is that the install attempt on the phone left behind files, maybe 1 zipped file, and 1 app bundle that doesn't work and is invisible?
Any ideas on how I can get back some of this space?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I uninstalled Copilot, then reinstalled. Lost all my user settings, like My Places entries. That sucked, but, oh well.
Total app space went down to < 1 GB while Copilot was gone, then back up to 4 GB when it was installed, even though it is listed as 1.3 GB in the app store.
    Am I the only one?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • ITunes music files are too large, how can I compress them?

So yeah today was my first day using iTunes and buying some songs. I got 12 songs and it came out to 80.6MB, I really want to know if there is a converter in iTunes for this or if there is a trusted software I can use to convert them?

I think you might be a little confused, html5 documents use the <video> tag to display videos online, .mp4 is one of the video types used by the <video> tag...
    HTML5 Video
    HTML video Tag
Since not all browsers can see .mp4, you also need a .ogg or .webm video so those browsers have something to look at. That secondary source is added to the <video> tag in html5 pages so a browser can latch onto the first source it understands.
To make your video smaller, you would need to reduce its actual pixel dimensions (if they're full screen HD videos, dropping them to 640x480 or similar will reduce the file size) or framerate.
Here's a converter for .ogg format...
