Itunes music greyed out

I am trying to sync my iphone 4 to my itunes and unable to get the music on my phone to match what is " on my phone according to itunes". I normally make a playlist in my library, and then "manually manage music" >Sync Music > Selected Playlists and then I select all the playlists that I want to have on my phone. I have been adding music to my phone this way for a long time with no issue. And now I can't even remove playlists from my phone.
When I go onto my iphone on itunes, its says that the music I want on my phone is there, however, when i turn on my phone, nothing has changed, including music I have either added or removed.
FYI I have all updates, I have factory restored my phone and have plenty of available space.
Thank you!

I am trying to import an audio file into iMovie, but
when I go to the Audio pane, and select iTunes, some
of the tracks are available, but a lot of them are
greyed out, so that I can't select them.
Any ideas how I can access these tracks?
I just started experiencing this problem. It seemed to occur after I moved my iTunes Music folder to the Users/Shared folder (per Apple instructions) so I could share my music with another user on my computer. Does anyone think this could be the cause or just a coincidence. Also does someone have a better idea than burning desired songs to a CD and reimporting them. I have 11,500 songs in iTunes and I use it extensively during iMovie projects.

  • HT204291 Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and AppleTV while using Airplay Mirroring for the TV?

Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and Apple TV while simultaneously using Airplay Mirroring to view the computer screen on the TV? Whenever I try, by clicking on 'computer' radial button for volume in iTunes Airplay, the TV automatically reverts to the Apple TV screen. I usually end up using preferences to 'bring back' the audio to the computert while leaving the picture on the tv, but this means i have to suffer from the inferior sound quality of my Macbook internal speakers.

  • Music greyed out in iTunes

I got a brand new iPhone 5s (iOS 8) yesterday. I want to transfer my music to it using iTunes (11.4.0.18) on Windows 7 (64 bit). So what I did was : on the Music page of the iPhone in iTunes, I checked "Sync Music". I then checked "Selected playlists, albums, artists, genres". I then selected a bunch of artists (at the top it says 915 songs). I then click sync. The result: no music on the iPhone, and under the Music section on iTunes, all the artists I selected is there, but all the songs are greyed out with a grey circle next to them. I googled this problem. I tried several things, including deleting everything in the "purchased" folder in the raw items on the phone, using iFunbox. That didn't work. I have tried to "Manually manage music", then delete all the greyed out songs on the iPhone, then sync. Then select the music i want and sync again. No luck.
I cannot understand how it can be this difficult to get music on my phone. Any ideas ?

  • IOS5/Itunes 5 sync issues - music greyed out, not syncing across

    Hello,
I am having issues syncing music from iTunes to my iphone and ipad. I use autofill, but have had the same issue when using the sync all music option. All the files are listed in the music tab under the device, but half are greyed out and unplayable on the device (they are greyed out on the device too). There is a sync icon next to the files, but clicking on it does nothing.... I did a clean restore to ios5 and it copied my apps over, but none of my music, pictures etc. This is really annoying can anyone help?

I have been fighting this problem with both my iPhone, my partner's, and my nephew's. It seems to have something to do with music purchased in iTunes vs. music that is ripped, since all my ripped music transfers fine and stays put.
On the other hand, downloaded content shows up doubled (one black, one grey) when I look at my music through the iTunes, just like that screen cap. As long as there's a "black copy" showing, it plays fine on my iPhone 4s, but I find I have to remove the greyed out copies manually and then manually transfer from my iTunes library or from the purchased option on the phone itself. In other words, if the music on the phone in only greyed out copies, and it's not on the phone, it doesn't transfer manually unless I first delete the greyed out versions. -- And then the greyed out versions magically reappear after it contacts the cloud and backs up.
I also sometimes end up with doubled copies, and my albums don't all sort the way they should -- so for example some Diane Schuur shows up under the artist name, and some shows up under albums. To put it all together I had to make a playlist, which is stupid.
Finally, there are some 46 items it tries to sync everytime I do any wi fi syncing of anything with my phone. I have no idea what that is.
I'm tempted to wipe and let all iTunes content be restored from the iCloud, a process that would require an overnight restore. I'm guessing that might solve the problem, but why should it all be this hard? Does Apple look at these comments, because I notice there are several different threads on this site concerning the music app and the iTunes/syncing issue?

  • Why is all of my music greyed out on my iPhone 4?

I haven't been able to sync my iphone with my iTunes music for several months now, which is getting increasingly frustrating, and as the holiday season approaches, I really need something to tune out all the holiday music >:-|.
To avoid all the obvious questions: I am running the newest version of iTunes (11.0) and iOS (6.0.1), I have over 4 1/2 gb free on my phone, I have unselected and selected different folders of music (being sure it can all fit in space available on my phone), attempted to auto-fill free space and not, restarted iTunes, my computer, my phone, shut down all the apps, connected and disconnected my phone to my computer, and connected and disconnected the wi-fi sync. Changed settings to sync only checked songs, and manually manage music and back, I have attempted a sync every step of the way.
The music shows that it is syncing, the blue bar of music content volume shows that it's filling up, then at the end of the sync it disappears again. My music folder on my phone has all of the songs I want to sync listed but greyed out and unplayable.
Reading through a bunch of other discussions I have found a few unsuccessful solutions and have attempted this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747, as reccomended, but my efforts were thwarted with a "iTunes can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X." message, so I didn't get very far.
I cant seem to make podcasts sync either, but books seem to sync fine.
I did to a restore when the problem first happened, but am afraid to do it again as my iCloud is also acting up (another battle for another topic...) and I'm afraid I will lose everything.
Am I missing something really obvious? Why isn't this working???

    Hello Donna,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you have some purchases that for one reason or another are grayed out and will not play on the iPhone.
You can delete the songs and then download them again for free from the iTunes store.
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.
    From: iPhone User Guide
              http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf page 61
And then to re download the song use this article.

  • ITunes Match - Greyed out songs when iTunes restarted

I am using iTunes 12 (latest version) on a Macbook 2010 running Yosemite 10.10.1
I do not store any music locally, and access around 2000 songs in iTunes Match. When I turn on iTunes Match, all songs display fine in iTunes.
The problem - When I quit iTunes and relaunch it, the songs are all there, however they are Greyed out and do not respond to any clicking or playing. This results in having to turn off and on iTunes Match every time I open iTunes, extremely annoying.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Hopefully when you deleted them locally, you did not check the "delete also from iTunes Match."  That said, while I don't right-click, I do believe that if the item is grayed out, and it has a cloud icon next to it with an arrow, it's telling you that it's available for download.  If that's what you're seeing, then just click on the cloud icon to download.

  • Ipod music greyed out?

I'm trying to add songs to my wife's ipod. (It looks like a nano, how do I tell which generation?)
A while back we swapped computers. But we'd synced and updated this laptop and ipod with no problem (same music on all.)
Now I've added new songs to the laptop itunes. The songs are mp4, not copy protected, and play fine on the laptop.
I connected the ipod and hit sync. Then when I open itunes>her ipod>music, all titles are greyed out, and the new artist or songs are not added (either there or when I eject the ipod & check it's own screen.)
    thanks

    Hello anotherjones,
This article should help you identify which iPod model your wife owns.
    [Identifying iPod models|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353]
As to the songs being greyed out, this is because the iPod is tied to another iTunes library on a seperate computer. The only way the songs wouldn't be grayed out and you could add songs to it from a second computer is if you are manually managing the music on your iPod. You can check to see if this option is enabled under the Summary tab for the iPod in iTunes.
Here are two helpful articles on manually managing music and syncing an iPod to multiple computers.
[Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535]
    [Using iPod with multiple computers|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202]
Otherwise, in order to sync it to this new library, you will have to restore the iPod via iTunes and start over from scratch with it.
    Hope this helps.

I don't understand. Are you saying the CD will not play on any of your CD drives? What happens when you try? Have your tried the CD in a non-computer CD player, such as a car player?
    Which album is this?

  • Why is music greyed out in music libary, and nothing will play.

After upgrading to IOS 5 and re-syncing my music libary, all the songs appear on the itouch but they are greyed out (i.e. not the normal bold font) and it isn't possible to play them.  I've tried restoring the itouch but same issue.

Try to resync your device with your Mac or PC pressing the sync button near your device name in iTunes.
    Don't stop it manually.
And be sure your device and your Mac or PC are in the one WiFi network during all sync process.
This solved the same problem with my iPhone and iPad.

  • Open iTunes option greyed out - why?

Hello - I am wondering why, when connecting my ipad to my mac, it opens up in iPhoto, and why the open iTunes option is greyed out on the summary page. Any ways to change this? Thanks!

You can do this while the iPad is connected to the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac and from the menu at the top go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if the box at the bottom - prevent iPods, iPhones .... from syncing automatically is checked. If it is checked - uncheck it. Then go to the Summary Tab and you should be able to check - Open iTunes when this iPad is connected.
I think this may be something that you can try as well. Go to System Preferences on your Mac and click on Accounts. Open your user account - you will need the administrator password - go to Login Items and make sure that iTunes Helper is checked.
For the iPhoto issue - launch iPhoto and from the menu - iPhotos>Preferences>General>Connecting Camera Opens no application.

  • All iTunes Files Greyed-Out in iMovie 5(HD)

Hi all - all iTunes files appear as they should in Garageband and in iMovie 6, but I have just now noticed they are greyed-out in iMovie 5. Last night I also found that the iPhoto pane in iMovie 5 was blank, but managed to fix that - by following the Apple Support advice for that. Their advice for fixing a 'no display of iTunes in iMovie' did not work for me, however.
I have repaired permissions and re-created plists to no avail.
My iTunes version is 7.6 - that and a few other up-dates were installed a couple of days ago. Is there some known incompatibility with the latest iTunes and iMovie 5? I've been away from civilisation for a while so may have missed something in that regard.
    Any help appreciated!

    Hi Fbrown,
Do you have a firewall turned on? If so, try turning it off to see if it resolves your issue.

  • Laptop crashed, iTunes music wiped out, how do I get music out of iPhone to my computer?

May I know whether it is possible to transfer my songs out of my iPhone music library to my computer or my new iTunes? The music files which i lost were mostly on soft copy.
Is it also possible to sync my iPhone to a new empty iTunes without losing my music files?
    Thank you!

Use the backup of the computer to put everything back.
Syncing is one way, computer to iDevice.
If for some silly reason you have chosen to not backup your important media and data, iTunes purchases can be transfered from the device or redownloaded from iTunes.
Google is your friend to find instructions.

  • Reorganize files in "itunes media" greyed out

The other threads about this feature tend to either say it didn't work; I sort of have the opposite problem.
I did this once, and it worked spectacularly, but it misorganized media added since (for example, since media added as a movie can be changed to a TV Show, but not organized as such, etc.). Is there any way to reenable the feature and have it organize with my new media?
