ITunes Music Library and iTunes Music Folders Contain Different File

I recently lost all of the music off of my iPod because of a defective hard drive. I have now reloaded it all and bought an external hard drive to back-up my music (which music I either purchased from iTunes or copied from CDs I own). When I open iTunes Music Library all of my content is present and it is all on my iPod as well. When I look at iTunes Music Files on my C drive - not all of my content is present (for example, only 2 of 3 Billy Joel cds show up). Thus, when I attempt to back-up, I am not capturing everything that is in my iTunes Music Library. Is there a way to synch these, or is there a reason that they are not the same. Again, in the case of the Billy Joel example, all three discs were owned by me so presumably there is no source issue.
Thanks

Assuming that you're using the external drive strictly for back-up purposes and keeping "working" copies of your music on the C drive, you can use the Advanced menu > Consolidate Library option to make sure that the entire contents of your Music Library is placed in the iTunes Music folder - default location C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes .

  • I am trying to rebuild my iPhoto library and noticed my backup contains aliases (pointers?) and not the actual file. What's the best way to rebuild my library?

I am trying to rebuild my iPhoto library and noticed my backup contains aliases (pointers?) and not the actual file. What's the best way to rebuild my library?
    Facts:
In moving to a new iMac, I copied the iPhoto library to an external HDD assuming that I would point the new iMac to the backed up iPhoto Library
All worked fine when I pointed the new library but noticed that some folders contained aliases and not the original file. So when I attempt to open that photo it can't find it because the alias is pointing to another drive.
I do have all original photos from a couple of external HDDs. In the folders titled, "Originals" (from older versions of iPhoto) and "Masters" (from current iPhoto)
I'm thinking I can create a new folder and drop the original files and make that my new iPhoto library. Is there a better way to rebuild my library? I do not want to create any future aliases.
Thanks in advance for any help!

do you have a strongly recommended default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library - you have unchecked that option?
It sounds like you have a referenced library and are now experiancing one of the very siginificant drawbacks of a referenced library and one of the many reasons they are strongly not recommended
Also note that iPhoto '11 may use alises in the originals folder as part of the upgrade
It is important that we understand exactly what you have and what is not sorking - what error messages you are getting
You must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure of content of the iPhoto library - there are no user servicable parts in it  --  and you can not rebuild yoru librtary - only iPhoto ir iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  can rebuild a library unless you are a SQL programmer and understand the structure that iPhoto uses

What happened to all the Library and application support folders in Yosemite? How can I access them?

    1. They’re still there, but hidden.
    2. Open your home folder, choose Show View Options from the Finder’s View menu, and check the box to show the library.

OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....

  • How do i unsync my iphone from itunes library and sync it to a different one without wiping my phone

I bought an iphone 5c and synced it to a windows 7 thinkpad laptop. I backed it up on this device and transferred music off there to my iphone. I recently had an acer aspire e15 laptop and downloaded itunes so i could now do everything i did on my old laptop on to this one, but it isn't letting me unless i sync my phone and wipe its memory. Although i can restore my phone it doesn't restore the music. So is there a way to unsync from one itunes library to another without wiping my data, or is there a way to transfer the music off my phone to my new itunes library so when i restore my phone its easy to restore the music i had on it previously.

The warning message provided is all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased, not all settings and data. The same applies when selecting to transfer any photos from the new computer. If you had a computer backup for your old computer that included your iTunes library and all photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your computer that could be transferred to your new computer, this wouldn't be a problem.
iTunes includes an option to transfer all iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes Store. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. Or with your iPhone connected, right click on your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Transfer Purchases.
There are some 3rd party utilties that provide for transferring photos from an iPhone that were transferred to the iPhone from a computer, but the original resolution of these photos will be lost. When transferring photos from a computer, the photos are optimized for viewing on the iPhone. The same utilities provide for transferring music from an iPhone that was not purchased from the iTunes Store.
Contacts, settings, and photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are not affected by this.

  • Zipped folders containing InDesign files

    Hi,
I'm providing advertising material (ads in InDesign) on a FTP server ; the folders containing layouts and links are compressed in .zip.
Some users can't open the .indd files, it seems they got corrupted, either while the FTP transfer or the zipping process.
Has anybody heard of trouble with zipped InDesign files ? Should I compress them in .sit instead ??
    Any help greatly appreciated !
    jean-philippe

One of the best reasons for zipping transferred files (whether transferred by email or FTP) is precisely so that you *know* about file corruption. If your users can extract the .indd file from the zip file, then the zip file made it through intact. If they can't extract the .indd file, then the zip file got corrupted.
Because your users are able to unzip the .indd file you can be assured that they're getting the same .indd file you put into the zip file. There's some other reason they can't open the .indd files.
In what way can they not open your .indd files? Do they get an error message?

  • Folders containing m2v files crash

Folders / Windows containing m2v files crash when opening or while trying to "arrange" the files.
Some folders will not even open.
It began after a recent series of upgrades. I've tried trashing various related preferences, etc. to no avail.
Could it be a Java problem? Any other suggestions will help lower my stress.
    Thank you for your time.
    G5 PowerPC Dual 1.8GHz 512   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I had the same problem. Theoretically, the problem is solved by assigning the QT Player as the default application via the INFO panel. Practically, the Finder crashes immedately if you select a m2v-file.
    Here's the solution:
Step 1: select a file that is NOT m2v. Take a AIFF file, for example, or something else.
Step 2: Hold down the "Apple key" and select TWO m2v files. The result is that three files are selected: the file from step 1 and two m2v files.
Step 3: Still hold down the Apple key. Click on the file from step 1. That deselects it. The result is that you have just the two m2v files selected.
If you do this as described, the finder has no opportuniy to "read" or open or preview the file (that's where the crashes come from).
Step 4: Now press Apple + i (the Info panel)
Step 5: In the Info panel, select the Quicktime Player as the default application. Make sure to assign this to all m2v files (extra button in the panel).
    Step 6: Close the panel.
Step 7: Check if the m2v files show the Quicktime icon again.
    Step 8: Reboot
Sometimes, the Finder would not assign the Quicktime Player as the default application to ALL m2v files. If so, select all the files, type Apple + i, and assign them manually.
If this solves your problem, rate this post as "helpful" (by clicking on the »+« button above this post), so that other users find the solution quickly.

  • Compressing large folders containing video files

Is there any way to compress large folders (600GB) containing video files? I have footage on my internal 1TB drive which i need to get to a client, who does not have a big enough drive but needs the footage urgently.

    BanditBiker wrote:
And then what... How can I select them and copy the directory containing that VIDEO_TS folder to another folder ?
If you search for Video_TS, then the smart folder will contain links to those folders. Just copy them.
When you click on the results of that smart search, Finder will open up with all those files showing.
    They are already selected.

  • How do I recover the original jpg photo files from my computer? They are embedded in the iPhoto Library and I cannot see the actual file.

I am trying to locate the original jpg or photo files that I uploaded from my camera. I know that the photos are there, because they show up in my iPhoto Library. Where can I go to find the original file ex: DSCN1242.jpg or OLM4564.jpg ?

Select the photo in iPhoto and use the command "File > Export" and set the "Kind" in the Export panel to "Original". That will write a copy of the original to a folder you can access in the Finder.
The command "File > Reveal in Finder" will show you the original inside the iPhoto Library, but you must not access the files this way. If you access them from other apps using the Finder, you will corrupt your library.

  • Library and Develop Module Photos Appear Different

I am using Lightroom 4.4   Dell Ultrasharp monitor is calibrated.  I own and have been referring to Scott Kelby's Lightroom4 book for digital photographers.  I recently took some photos of my daughters prom.  She had on a beautiful reddish orange dress.  I notice that the dress appears very red in the develop module, however, appears a bit more orange in the library module.  The change is very noticeable between the modules.  The dress also appears similar to the library module view (a bit more orange) when viewed on the web via Flickr utilizing Chrome, Firefox, or IPad.  It also appears the same when exported to a JPEG file.
I have done some experimenting and have determined that this color change effect appears to be very noticeable utilizing the Adobe Standard Camera Calibration Profile.  It does not happen (at least to a noticeable extent) with the others such as Camera Standard where the dress appears a bit more orange in both the library and develop module.  I do, however, like the appearance of the Adobe Standard profile better and this happens to be the default profile as well.
I have also noticed that the dress looks more orange when Soft Proofing is enabled.  The change happens immediately when the check box is enabled.  Checking the box makes the photo appear similar to the Library module view.  Enabling Soft Proofing does make noticeable that there is Destination Gamut Warning which mainly involves the dress which is the point of interest, however, there is no warning with the Monitor Gamut Warning.  I am intending to place the photos on the web at this time via Flickr.  I will be printing several later so will be worrying about the printer gamut at that time.  But for now, I would like to get the photos on the web looking as intended.
Having the photos look so different in the Library and Develop Modules is very frustrating.  I am hoping that there is a simple setting or fix for this problem that I am experiencing.  Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi Victoria. Thanks for your reply. Re the saturation of the yellows, an example of a photo which shows the behaviour is that of a sunflower shot in direct sunlight. So a typical bright yellow. The raw files are from a D7000, so I have several "camera" profiles to choose from in LR4, in addition to the default Adobe Standard. None of the camera profiles show a difference between Library & Develop. Also, the Adobe Standard profile only shows the described behaviour when yellows are present. I can find plenty of examples where the photos are identical between the two modules when there are no yellows in the shot. I doubt this is a monitor profiling problem, given that it affects just the Adobe Standard profile, however I will try re-profiling. My U2412M display is not wide gamut. I posted here because the issue I am seeing sounds very similar to the original poster's. We're both using Dell Ultrasharp displays, although that could be a coincidence. I'll see if I can get some screen grabs from my Mac and upload here later today. I'm on my Windows 7 laptop at the moment.
    R
    Update:
I have a pair of screen grab JPEGs from the Mac which I'm happy to share, however the upload here in the forum is limited in size. Any suggestions how I can best share the full size JPEGs?
Re-profiling hasn't changed anything. I'm pretty sure my profile is good. Ambient natural lighting, monitor warmed up, etc. Native white point used as always. The difference between profiled and unprofiled is very subtle. The U2412M appears to be pretty accurate at factory settings.
If I turn soft proofing on in Develop I see the less saturated image which matches Library. Turning it off again and the differences return.
LR4 on my Windows 7 laptop doesn't have the same problem. The screen on that is calibrated with the same Spyder3, however the laptop's screen is of a mediocre quality compared to the U2412M.
Found another thread where the poster is having the same problems with yellows, this time in LR5.

  • Why does FireFox freeze and the only way to unfreeze it is to open the task manager and close the plugin-container.exe file??? It has been happening more and more often and it is getting VERY AGGRAVATING!!!!!

When Firefox does freeze (not responding appears in parentheses in the page tab) I am not able to access any of the webpages (the entire webpage is hidden behind a vaguely white transparent foreground) and more often than not any files I might be downloading are stopped before the entire file has been transferred - which means that I have to start those downloads from the beginning AGAIN. This has been happening for quite some time and I AM SICK AND TIRED OF IT HAPPENING!!
If it continues to happen for much longer I will swear off FireFox FOREVER!!!!! Either a program works or it does not work and lately Firefox has not worked worth a damn...........
The ONLY way to force Firefox to allow me to access it is for me to end the plugin-container.exe file process using Task Manager. Clearing there is a SERIOUS problem here that has not been resolved - why not???

The pluging container opens up unnecessary copies as the cookies/history are cleared, this is a known issue, it might be what you are seeing, and it is hoped to be fixed in some future release of firerox.
There are some hangs affecting some users, with symptoms being high cpu usage, occurring as bookmark changes or syncing is in progress, there is a work around for that.

  • How to copy a files spotlight comments for an entire folder and place them in a different file with that same name

I have the same question in a different discussion but I already marked it as solved because one of the questions was answered. Here's the linke to the other discussion if your interested https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5970421
I have movie covers saved as a jpeg for every movie my family and I own. There is about 700 and they each have a comment of the main actors, release dates, and descriptions. This makes it easy to find what to watch. Is there an applescript, automator, program I can download,  or program code supported in xcode that will do the following set of inscructions?
Take the name of the picture file and spotlight comment, copy and paste it to a movie file's comments to a file with the same name but obviously has different extention. For an example
    In a Pictures folder
Name: Dark Knight, The.jpeg       Comment: (2008) Genre: Action...             <- copy comment
    In a Movie Folder
Name: Dark Knight, The.m4v       Comment:                                               <- paste
and do this for all 700 files

    Clendenen02 wrote:
where should I run the code? in the terminal, or an applescript, or should put it in xcode and run it from there or the terminal.
    What MrHoffman said.
But if it's easier, you can wrap it in Automator and have Automator ask for the Folders: (Test on a sample of your files before running on all 700 files)
(do you really own 700 movies??)
    The Workflow is:
Put this in the Run Shell Script Action (and pass input as arguments":
    PicDir=$1
    MovDir=$2
    for f in $PicDir/*
    do
         if [ ! -d "$f" -a "${f##*.}" = "jpeg" ]; then
              comment=$(mdls -raw -name kMDItemFinderComment "$f")
              if [[ $comment != "(null)" ]]; then
                   picname=${f##*/}
                   movname=${picname%.*}.m4v
                   if [[ -e "$MovDir"/$movname ]]; then
    osascript <<-EOF
    tell application "Finder"
set comment of file (POSIX file "$MovDir/$movname") to  "$comment"
    end tell
    EOF
                   fi
              fi
         fi
    done
(BTW, I know that this is a bit of sloppy scripting (wraping an osascript in a Bash Script wrapped in Automator, but it does what you need)

  • Can iTunes monitor folders for new files and add to library?

    Hi,
Is there a way to have iTunes monitor my media folders so that if I add any media files in those folders, iTunes will catch the added media files and add them into the library automatically? I have been using something similar in WMP10; moving to iTunes since iPods are not supported in WMP Sorry if this has already been asked (couldnt find anything similar through search)

  • Explorer slow showing folders containing PDF files

I have Windows XP SP2 and Acrobat Pro 7.0.9 on a Dell Precision
    M65 about 4 months old.
Windows Explorer experiences a significant delay displaying the
contents of folders that contain large PDF files. Process Explorer
shows that during these delays explorer.exe is reading from the
disk at about 200 MByte/sec. The thread that's busy during these
delays is ntdll.dll!RtlAllocateHeap+0x18c. The duration of the
delay is proportional to the total size of the PDF files in the
directory. If I rename these files to have, say, .doc extension
instead of .pdf then the delay disappears. The delay to display a
folder containing 300 MByte of PDF files is about 25 seconds.
    Enough to be really annoying.
In ShellExView I tried disabling all non-Microsoft extensions,
including several Adobe Acrobat related extensions. Made no odds.
    Any suggestions?

I see exactly the same thing, but I suspect this is partly a Windows issue. I completely uninstalled all the adobe products from my machine (Acro reader, acrobat pro 7.0.9, FrameMaker 7.2) such that the pdf file associations were gone, and it still takes forever to list the files. Of course, there could still be some remnants lurking in the system that uninstalling didn't take care of.
My workaround was to change the .pdf extension to .mypdf and then associate that extension with Acrobat reader 8.0. The folder contents now update very quickly (as they should) and I can open them with the correct Adobe product. I just have to remember to change the extension back to .pdf if/when I email a file to someone else.
Still, would be nice to not have to work around this.

  • Merging existing 2013 Public Folders and 2010 Public Folders from different organization.

Following recent acquisition of another company we faced the following situation:
Company A has Exchange 2013 Organization up and running and already using new Public Folders migrated from 2010 when we upgraded.
Company B has Exchange 2010 Organization with their own PF infrastructure.
When it comes to migration, there's already public folder mailbox which was created when first migration occured.
I cant figure next steps to merge those PF infrastructures at the moment, as removing public folder mailbox prior migration is not an option, since we already have big amount of data in 2013 Organization.
Have anyone done similiar task and if so, how did you overcome this limitation?

You're looking at a third-party product.  MigrationWiz does public folders.  There are other cloud-based migration solutions, but I don't know whether they support public folder migrations.
