Itunes music library has vanished...help please!!!!!

PC broke and was rebooted back to factory settings. I downloaded itunes again but my entire itunes music library has disapeared and i have tried all the recommendations from itunes. Any ideas please.

This is one of the many reasons that maintaining a backup is basic.
Just use your backup copy to put everything back.

I recently updated my iPhone 4s to the iOS 6. Now I can not install application updates, my music library has vanished, iTunes Match (in Settings) keeps setting itself to "Off". I have also logged off of iTunes in Settings, and it will not let me log back in. Just a few moments ago when I again tried to log into iTunes, it asked me for my Password, then replyed that I had no Match account; but I do. Is Restore the best option?
    Any suggestions

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

  • Songs not showing in iTunes Music Library....Please help!

    Hello,
I'm running into a problem with my iTunes library. I'm pretty new to the Mac - so I was hoping one of the experts on this forum might have an answer. Since we just got our iMac (we're PC converts) I'm totally willing to accept that I may have just dome something incorrect.
I have a DVD/RW that has my music backed up to it (all MP3 and a few AAC), it has about 750 songs in all. I tried to add the music from that disc using "Add To Library" function. It seemed to copy and process all 700+ songs just fine, but when when I look at my Music Library in the main iTunes window, it only shows the first 40 or so (it only has artists A-B alphabetically), and that's it.
When I look in my user/music/itunes/itunes music folder, it appears that iTunes copied all the songs to the folder properly in an itunes music/artist/album format. For some reason it just only shows the first few Artists in the main Music Library.
The weird thing is, I have a couple other discs (CD/RW's) that have a few MP3's on them (10-15 per disc - songs I added after making my large backup)....and I was able to add those to the iTunes library using the same "Add To Library" function, with no issues at all.
This is a brand spankin' new just-out-of-the-box iMac (so a fresh install of Leopard), with all the latest software updates applied before I started putting any of my stuff on.
Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sully

Use the add to library function again, but just point the application to the iTunes library on the computer rather than the DVD backup.

  • Downloaded itunes 8 and my music library disappeared! HELP PLEASE!

Is there any way to get my library back after downloading itunes 8? It cleared everything - all my music, playlists....
and no....I do not have my music saved to disc/or external harddrive yet....

When you open iTunes do you have the dreaded ! next to each tune? If so then you need to put the tunes back where they were before the problem occurred. Are your PL listed on the left side?
The default path for iTunes is HD>Users>My Account>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music. iTunes music is where the folders would be nested by Artist>Album>Tune.
If in iTunes prefs>Advanced you have selected the options to 'keep' and 'copy' the above path is the normal place where your tunes should be. This is also where you set the path for iTunes to go find your tunes.

There is some preloaded software that causes problems, I believe it can be configured to exclude the iTunes folder.
Sony have released a software update for some models of Vaio but I don't have the link to hand. I guess you could look on their support site.

  • Half of my music library has vanished from iTunes...help!

Ive lost most of my music in my itunes account.  I cannot find it anywhere on my computer and am having trouble accessing the cloud.  Has this happened to anyone and how do I restore?

    Hi Nathan,
You need to make sure the external drive is mounted and accessible before opening iTunes.

  • I can't seem to create another iTunes music library...  Please Help...

I have tried what iTunes v9 tells me to do by holding the shift key while starting iTunes from the start menu...
    It doesn't work.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Has anyone found a fix yet?
    -Bill

You need to press AND HOLD the shift key. Keep holding it down until the prompt comes up.
If you still can't get it to work from the start menu, try it by clicking itunes.exe in
    C:\Program Files

  • ITunes music library has disapeared

I have a Mac mini with all my music stored on a Time Capsule. I've recently put the Mac mini to sleep but turned the TC off at the plug.
I've just gone to start up iTunes and now all the music has gone from my iTunes. It's still on my TC but the library is blank.
    Could anyone tell me why?

    try this:
    quit iTunes
go to your iTunes folder (on the TC or your boot drive) and move the file called iTunes library to the desktop
open the folder previous iTunes libraries and find the iTunes library file with the latest date appended
move this file to the iTunes folder and rename it iTunes library (i.e. remove the date)
fire up iTunes while holding option (⌥), click on choose library when prompted, and the select the iTunes library file you just renamed

  • How to compact iTunes music library files

I've been using iTunes for several years, and my iTunes Music Library has grown substantially. Still, with just over 22,000 tracks, it seems that the two library files (iTunes Music Library.XML and iTunes Library.ITL) are inordinately large. Those two files are taking 53MB on my hard drive. Which means that each individual track is taking almost 2.5KB of data! I'm not sure, but that seems like an awful lot of information, just to "catalog" the music tracks.
Is it possible that the library files need to be "cleaned" and/or compacted? Is there a method to use, to compact these two files? Or does 53MB sound like a reasonable size for these two files?

    Hi Frank,
You can delete these files, and upon reopening of itunes, they will be recreated fresh and new. However, you will lose song ratings, playlists, playcounts and possibly other information you have diligently passed to iTunes over the years, and you will have to re-add your music...
It might be fun to save backup copies and then "refresh" the files to see how big they are...but I have around 2400 songs, and my files are close to 4MB. So 10x sounds about right.

  • Itunes music library file cannot be saved (error -48) Help! please!

every time i either use iTunes, or look at iTunes, play any file in iTunes (even though it does play the file) it comes up with this message-
'The iTunes Music Library file cannot be saved, an unknown error has occured (-48)'
i would really appreciate some help, any ideas would br great

this is kind of funny. First I read from paper something that Apple is going to break every hacked or some other way touched Iphones to keep their business rolling. Now they did something with the iTunes which eventually broke up our playlist. I fixed this with by deleting my Smart playlists. What I noticed while deleting those was kind of... wierd..
I have all my classic rock etc in the play list named Speed metal. While I was listening WASP (ripped from CD, not bought from itunes - is that what makes you mad, Apple? ) from the normal library I got the error message. So. I though that there must be some broken link between smart list and this song and I deleted the smartlist (Speedmetal).
Wierd part is that I was still listening this song from iTunes Library but when I deleted the smart list it stopped playing the music. That is when I realized that the smart list system is some how affected with this newest update.
After deleting I didn't had to rebuild the library or anything so I still got my Date added and how many times played tags available and also my own genres! Thank god. Because I have all my CD's (~400) on iTunes with own Genres and settings...
Now... Can I update my Tiger to Leopard when it comes out or will it just spit my Samsung DVD drive out of the mac because I didn't get it from Apple Store?

I did not touch my computer the past week, I've only been messing with my laptop.  I had my computer off a whole day.  I turn it on, open iTunes, and everything is gone.
Is your laptop a different computer than your computer?
    You have two computers?
iTunes is missing everything from which one/both?
I system restore.  Everything is gone.  None of my podcasts, apps, or music files are there.
Do you mean you reinstalled the system from scratch?
Yes, that tends to delete everything.
Or you restored everything from a backup?
Directions on where to go to download all past purchases?
Selete Store on the left side of iTunes.
Make sure you are signed in.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick links to redownlaod your purchases.
Then make sure to regularly backup, backup, backup all your important data .

The error message I get on my PC is "The ITunes library file cannot be saved" An unknown error occurred (-50)and my music library has disappeared.  I recently tried to copy a CD to my library - it appeared to copy ok but then did not appear in my music library.  The library does not show up even when my iPad is connected to my PC.  My entire library is now held on my iPad and I wish to have it in iTunes so I can sync my iPhone to it as well.  Help?

Don't know what changed today but it downloaded and installed on the shuffle. So far so good.

  • Help!"Some of the songs in the iTunes music library, including song "x"..."

I got an ipod, installed itunes which then put all music that was already on my comp into my library. I was able to put those songs from the library onto my ipod. Now i am uploaded cds (store bought, good condition) into itunes. They play in iturnes but when i drag them over to the ipod icon i get an error message saying "some of the songs in the iTunes music library, including song 'x' were not copied to the iPod 'y' because they cannot be played on this iPod." What do i do?! Please help brand new iPod dying to use it!

iPods, can only play files in specific formats and at certain bit rates. My guess is that you have your import settings set to something not compatible with the ipod. Navigate to the preferences screen and locate the importing tab and tell me what the settings are.
