ITunes music on 2 partitions - need to combine onto larger partition

My wife has an XP machine that has a small (15Gb) C: drive, and a larger (50GB) D: drive. At one time I had set up iTunes (7.5.0.20) to have the library on the D: drive. Those files are still there. At some point in Sept 2006, the iTunes library pointer got changed to the C: drive (c:\documents and settings\username\my documents\my music\iTunes\iTunes Music.
Now everything she buys from the iTunes store or rips ends up on the C: drive, and there's no more room.
I'd like to move the files from the C: drive to the D: drive, and then have iTunes point to the D: drive for the library.
Is there a simple way to do this?
Thanks in advance for any help...

I figured this out on my own, then bought my wife a new iMac this past March, so this is pretty much moot at this point...

Any fix to iTunes music turning off when iPad 1 put onto charging stand?

Ok, I found a solution that worked for me when trying to connect to the iTunes store by tapping the "update" button in the "App Store" app on my iPad 2. Before the solution was implemented I'd always get the error message "cannot connect to iTunes store". Once the solution was implemented I now can connect to iTunes using the "update" button in the "App Store" app and I get the normal message "All apps are up to date". The solution is this:  go into Settings, then General, then scroll to the bottom where it says Date and Time. Tap Date and Time and then turn OFF Set Automatically. When you do that a new option will be added that says Set Date and Time. Tap it. You'll now get a drop down feature. Set the Date AHEAD 2 YEARS. The Time you can leave alone.
Once you do that you might get a bunch of reminders and messages that your apps and stuff haven't been updated in two years. Click cancel or close on each of those messages or reminders. Now go back into Settings, General, Date and Time, and turn Set Automatically back to ON. Reboot your iPad. Open the App Store app again and go to the Update button. It might ask you to log back in to your iTunes account. It should now work. If not, close the App Store app completely and open again and try the update button. Hope this helps.

  • Itunes music store error -3256 Need help

Itunes error -3256 pops up everytime i try to go into itunes on my windows computer. I have tried everything to get it to work. If anyone has any suggestions please help me out?

I disabled all firewalls and other things that may
block the music store and it still did not work.
If you do a search using the error number, a lot of threads will come up and one of them may be more helpful.

  • How can I add songs to itunes music folder without them being duplicated within the folder (not on my hard drive)?

I have music files all over the place and want to put them all in itunes with no duplicates and get rid of all the rest. how can I do that? Some of my playlists are missing songs. I would like to move the playlist back to itunes from my ipod without having to put the songs in my media folder yet again! I have wasted so much time fooling with this. Really what I am trying to get at through all of this is to run the songs on the ipod through ivolume so they play equally.
Can anyone make sense of this for me?

It sounds like you have a few different problems.
To find all your music, try using a spotlight search. Type "kind:music" in the spotlight search (the magnifying glass in the far upper-right corner ) then choose "show all in finder". You'll end up with a window that shows all your music files, regardless of where they are on your hard drive. But don't move any files, because that may confuse iTunes (it won't be able to find files that you move, because - d'oh! - you moved them and now they're not where iTunes left them. That's usually how people end up in the kind of situation that you're in.)
If you want to let iTunes organize your music for you, make sure those options are turned on in the iTunes preferences (in the "advanced" section), then go to the "File" menu, choose "Library" and then choose "Organize library". That will put all your music in the iTunes Library folder (but leave copies of the originals wherever they were, all over your hard drive).
To find duplicates in your iTunes Library, choose "display duplicates" (or hold down the option key and it changes to "display exact duplicates" which might help in some cases). You'll still have to manually go through them to delete one of each duplicate.
Now you can start combining those three techniques - if you consolidate your music and let iTunes copy everything into the music folder, you'll know that iTunes safely has a copy of all your music in the iTunes Library folder. So you can do the spotlight search, and delete any duplicate files that are not in your iTunes library folder. Anything that's left over (that is, it's not a duplicate and it's not in the itunes music folder), you'll need to add to iTunes (try using the "automatically add to itunes" folder - spotlight search to find it -  anything you drop in there will get added to iTunes without leaving a duplicate file). Then you can use the itunes "duplicates" feature to find the duplicates in iTunes and fix those.

  • Obtain ID-tag from m4a, m4p, mp3, ... file bought on iTunes Music Store

How can i obtain ID-tag (... and an unique ID?) from m4a, m4p, mp3 file bought on iTunes Music Store?
I need to build C/C++ application to make this.
    Best regards.

Burn them to an audio CD then re-import them. This strips off the restrictions and protections rendering them like any other CD music you import. And then you can store the CDRs away as a backup of your purchase.

  • Retreival of iTunes music and library.

My music was on my work laptop and the Windows OS got corrupted. Conveniently for me, I'm the IT admin at work so I just pulled another machine out of inventory, imaged it, and made it my own. My old hard drive and all of it's data is still available including all of my iTunes music, library files, artwork, et al and I have a hard drive utility that allows me to use my old disc as an external drive.
Is there anyway to get iTunes on my new machine setup with all of my music/videos including playlists and song counts associated with my iPod? I hadn't synched my iPod with my old system in a few weeks, so I'll only lose some play counts if possible.
Is this as easy as just copying my music from my old drive to the new one and overwriting my iPod or is there more to it?

Only allow your iPod to sync if you are CERTAIN you have all your music in your retrieved library. If there are files in your iPod that are not in iTunes they would be deleted from the iPod - then it is back to your backups if you have them.
But ... presumably if you took your library from your old disk and it was a standard setup, things should be OK. If you had files outside the iTunes Music folder, you would need to add those to your library too.

    It is still possible.

  • How do I move my iTunes music library off my computer and onto Time Capsule, which I want to use as an external hard drive?

Does anyone know how I can move my very large iTunes music library folder off the computer and onto my fourth generation time capsule, which I'd like to use as an external hard drive?

This Apple support document may help.
Do you also plan to use the Time Capsule disk for Time Machine backups?  If so, that approach has problems.  For one, you don't be backing up your music library.  For another, eventually Time Machine will consume all the space on that disk, which will cause problems for your music.

  • How to combine two iTunes Music Libraries?

    So,
I keep two different iTunes Music libraries on an external store like an Time Capsule's share.
The problem I have is that iTunes Helper constantly resets it's Music Location back to the home folder instead of the network path where the actual iTunes Music directory is. This is one of the more annoying features of iTunes.
What I find is that the actual Library stores the path to the files ie. /Volumes/TC/iTunes Music/Directory/filename.mp3
Well the problem is that occasionally the actual mount /Volumes/TC is claimed by a root process and the Finder or disk abritration creates /Volumes/TC-1 for the user with the users permissions and consequently the paths in the iTunes Music Library are no longer valid because iTunes cannot access the file thru /Volumes/TC
So how else can you combine or provide a single iTunes Music Library with the ability to access music that actually exists in multiple iTunes Music Location's without depending on the actual name of the mount point?

Sorry it's the next day, I had to get off of my computer. Yes, you will have to pick a location. I would put it in the iTunes folder, or wherever you need it.
But if you've got all of the music you want to show up in your iTunes library, export it and put it iTunes folder (under music). Hopefully that should do it.
I had a similar problem once, but I solved it by simply dragging all of my music from several different computers (via network connection) to the iTunes music folder. After that if they didn't show up in iTunes I simply hit import and brought them in.

I have two different itunes music files on my computer.  How do I combine them into one file?

I don't think so. The only other ID I have is a developer id, and I didn't get that until several months after I got the phone. In addition purchases I made from the App Store onthe phone would sync up with It unes on the Mac meaning it would be the same id.
However I looked at the AppStore on my phone while it was connected to the Mac with iTunes open, and now the balance has changed to the same as the others.

No it is not possible.  Content purchased from the iTunes Store is permanently tied to the account from which it was originally purchased, and Apple does not provide a way to change it.

  • How do I fully import my itunes music from my external hard drive to my new HP computer so that I don't need the external HD attached to listen to my music? It won't promt me to fully import songs when I import the folder from the EHD.

When I select File> Add folder to library and then press "select folder" after finding the iTunes music folder I wish to import from my external hard drive, it does not promt me whether to fully import it or not. After the importing is complete, the external hard drive must be attached in order for me to listen to my music. I do not wnat this; I wnat my music fully imported so that I don't need my EHD. What can I do? Thanks!

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions

We have itunes music on a computer, an ipod nano, and a new ipod touch under two different accounts. How can we combine the music from both accounts to one device?

There is no "adding" a device.  Simply plug the iDevice into the computer.  iTunes should automatically detect the device when it is connected.
iTunes can sync/manage as many iDevices as you want... there is no 1 device limit.

  • Restored my Macbook Pro but my iTunes content was saved on a separate partition. When I re-setup iTunes the status bar reports 30gb less content than my iTunes Music folder. How can I find what is 'missing'?

My Macbook Pro software was failing and the Apple Store was able to restore it without removing the partition on my hard drive that contained most of my files including all my iTunes content. Initially when I re-setup my library I simply went to file--> add to library. Shortly after I realized that was essentially copying the library to the other portion of the partition because I forgot to change the location of the library. So I deleted the content already copied & then I re-setup the library, by asking it to be pulled from the previous location using this pages advice: iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
It appeared to work & everything I thought was imported. But on closer inspection, it appears that I have 30gbs less appearing on the status bar in the iTunes app than I do when I pull up the info on the iTunes Music folder in my finder. I'm not sure if this means somehow I have 30gbs of duplicates in my finder folder or if (most likely) I somehow didn't fully import the library from that file. Any advice? Is there a way to restore iTunes to factory settings again & set it up correctly this time?
Also I never actually trashed the original content I accidentally transferred to the other drive but when i skimmed those in my trash bin it appears they ARE indeed in iTunes, so I have no clue what didn't actually import. Any ideas?! I'd greatly appreciate it!

You could have all the computers point to the same library but it can't be opened by more than one at any time.
No answer for knowing which library is in use other than selecting it at startup.  This question gets asked here occasionally but I don't think it is a high-demand feature since most people have just one library.  I guess you could put in an empty playlist with the library name so you have an identifier.

  • Should I create a partition on external drive for iTunes music?

...or will it create it's own space outwith my backup stuff?
(Secondary question: would moving my iTunes music from internal to external drive noticably improve performance of my Mac? I'm using about 135GB of a 250GB drive, 60GB of which is in iTunes Music folder)

Should I create a partition on external drive for iTunes music? or will it create it's own space outwith my backup stuff?
I see no good reason to create a separate partition unless you're backing up with Time Machine. TM prefers to have it's own volume, so in that case partitioning would probably be a good idea.

No, probably not. As long as you're not getting the drive too full - opinions vary but about 20GB remaining should be plenty for most uses - you probably won't see any overall change in performance just from moving the iTunes content.
