ITunes music only playing for 5 seconds

Hello, everyone. I'm pretty new to iTunes. I just bought an iPod (1st. gen. Nano) from a friend of mine. It still had some music on it. When I play that music through iTunes, on some songs only 5 seconds play and then it goes to the next song. What causes that? Is that because the music was bought by someone else? Can I fix it?
Thanks in advance...

If you are not authorized then you shouldn't hear anything at all. But if they are purchased on another account you can't play them. If you get 5 seconds then consider that as a part of "you can't play them."

  • Can't import songs and ones in library only play for 45 seconds

I'm in the process of moving my music collection to a new computer with a bigger hard drive. I installed the latest version of iTunes on the new computer, copied all the folders and contents of the itunes folder to the new computer in the same location.
I bought a couple new songs successfully but now I can't add any of the files from my previous computer to the new library. I was able to import a few songs that iI purchased when on my original machine but now they only play for 45 seconds and jump to the next song in the playlist (if check) And now when I drag and drop songs on the Library to import them absolutely nothing happens.
And yes, the new computer is authorized and the permissions on the folders are read / write.
Any one have an idea of how to fix this? If not, I just going to burn all my songs to CD and import them that way and say so long to iTunes... just too much BS to just move a music library!

Sounds like the PC's authroization file is messed up, or else the iTUnes preferences files.
Follow the directions in this article, the SC Info file holds the PC authroization for iTMS songs.
iTunes Does Not Open After Upgrading
And also deleted these 2 preferecnes files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
They will all get rebuilt when you open iTunes the next time. It should ask for authorization one last time, is all.

The Song I just purchased only plays for a second. How do I fix this?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting it from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking them to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTune) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

  • HT1567 trying to preview song but only plays for 5 seconds

When i preview a song it will only play for 5 seconds instead of the 1min/half it allows. I 've never had this problem before. I update the software, but it still will not allow me to listen to the song no more tham 5 seconds

I have had this problem for quite awhile.  Sometimes the preview plays all the way through, or not.  I had it in the previous version and now the new version.  There is no help from Apple/iTunes.  It seems odd that WE must continue to try and find the solution to THEIR errors without any comments or help from Apple.

  • My songs only play for 6 seconds

My imported music is only playing for six seconds then going to the next track. All of my purchased music works fine though.  The imported files also play in their entirety on Windows Media Player so I know it's not the files' fault. Any suggestions?

  • Itunes purchases only play for 30 secs

I have purchased songs.  When I go to play them they only play for 30 seconds. I went to 'Store' to download them but they downloaded the 30 seconds. I purchased the song again and it still gave me on 30 seconds of the song. Please help!

In windows goto control panel>add and remove and uninstall BOTH iTUnes and quicktime. THen go here and roll down to "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
There are some adware programs that interfere with iTUnes, especailly the Qoologic adware that seems so ramped on the net. Scan the system with your adware/spyware program or Ewido (Its good at catching qoologic) http://www.ewido.com
IF you have restored the PC, you need to goto the PC makers site and see if they have any patches/updates for issues with itunes. Some PCs, especailly HP and Dell PCs have issues with itunes after a restore is done. While there its best to just install all updates they offer that apply for your model.
Now disable any Antivirus/security programs and goto apple.com download AND SAVE itunes to the PC. Once done goto the location you saved it and double click it to install.
If after this, itunes still will not open, disable your antivirus again and go here to download and install "Quicktime WITHOUT iTUnes". This is the stand alone version of quicktime and usually fixes an itunes not opening.

  • Podcasts only playing for 20 seconds?

    Hi,
The new interface does not list times for my podcast, like the previous one did.
My podcast episodes only play for 20 seconds from the iTunes store now, but play fully and have a time when downloaded.
    How do I fix this?

Which "interface" are you referring to, the iTunes Store, your iTunes Podcast Library or your iPod (in which case, which model of iPod)?
I assume that you are referring to the Store. I've just checked and it took me several attempts to find a Podcast in the Store without times listed. I think, for the time to be listed in the Store then that information needs to be included in the "tag information" completed by the Podcaster when they create their Podcasts. In other words, if you want to "fix" it, you'll need to contact the shows producers. I wouldn't hold out much hope of them meeting your expectations in this respect.

Surely what plays in the Store is only a preview, it's never meant to be the complete episode. To hear all of it, download it, that's what Podcasts are all about. In case you didn't know, Podcasts are not located in the iTunes Store. All the iTunes Store does is list them, and if you choose to download one, the Store instructs the server (where ever that particular Podcast is stored) to download to your library. So I'm surprised to hear that you ever managed to listen to a complete episode direct from the Store. That would be "Streaming", not Podcasting.

You are the second person to complain of this new phenomenon. What you and he have in common is that neither of your feed contains the 'itunes:duration' tag, which is why the duration is not displaying (it displays when subscribing only once the episode is downloaded).
My guess - and it is a guess - is that when this tag is missing the Store defaults to playing only the first 30 seconds. My own podcast includes this tag, and the Store displays the durations and plays the complete episode.
So you should add this tag to your feed: please see the earlier thread -
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2325024&tstart=0
As you are using Podbean I can't advise on how you would do this; presumably it provides a placed where you can enter the duration.
If you need to post further queries on this or any other matter could I ask you always to include the URL of your feed (please include the http://) as well as the iTunes Store URL.

  • I bought an album and one song only plays for 8 seconds

I bought an album and one song only plays for 8 seconds then skips to the next song why is this? How can i fix it?

    Hi bholdrofjustice,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may want to delete the song that doesn't play, and download it again using the steps in this article:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If the song still skips after 8 seconds, you can report an issue with your purchase:
