ITunes Music Previously On NTFS Volume

Greetings,
I have previously saved the contents of my iTunes to an NTFS volume (Win-7 on a PC) and now need to copy them over to 10.9.3. While OS-X will only read these files (which is fine for copy purposes) I am wondering if, once copied, anything need to be done to the perms prior to launching iTunes.
Current version of my OS-X is 10.9.4.
Any assistance greatly appreciated, and thank you.

Nothing aside from copying them to a writable drive is needed.

How can I get my old iTunes music onto my new computer without access to my old computer? I left my previous job and forgot to transfer my music. I bought iTunes match and it shows my old Mac as a device, but I cannot access any of the old music. All I can find are what was on my iPhone, but that's not what I want. I need all my old music from my old Mac, which has been wiped clean by IT at my old job. BUT, I did have iCloud at that time and I thought all my music would be accessible through it. I don't understand the Cloud! And I'm thinking spending $24.99 on iTunes Match was a waste of money because I still can't access my old music.

When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.

are you saying that your computer is autharized from guessing, or do you know it is becuase it says it. in itunes, go to the advanced tab and the last option in that tab should be either aurhorize, or de-authorize.  What does it say?

If you have an iBook G4, (PPC) you can't do much.
But if that is a MacBook (intel) you may be able to
upgrade the OS X, if the hardware is up to it...
Since there were about nine different build models
of MacBook (not powerpc iBook) to identify what
one you have would be the first step to knowing
what OS X and RAM upgrades it could use.
If the computer is not already at OS X 10.6.8,
it can't go online to get or use OS X 10.7.5. So,
when you more accurately describe the 'Book,
    detailed information is available.
When you find the serial number, there is a web
page that can be used to identify by serial no.
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
That'd be a first step. Or even the Model number
which should be visible on the outer case by hinge.

I am thinking about doing the itunes match, but when i do should i delete the music previously stored on my mac?

Here is the official answer, from the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions:
"iTunes Match is provided on an “AS IS” basis and may contain errors or inaccuracies that could cause failures, corruption or loss of data and/or information, including music, playlist, and play history, from your computer or device and from peripherals (including, without limitation, servers and other computers) connected thereto. You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match. FYI - I did have "copy files to iTunes folder when adding to library" selected in iTunes preferences.
Is this just a quircky deal that will make me move to iSongs? Or has anybody run into this and solved it? I'm not new to macs or OSX, but I am new to iTunes music store (such an honest downloader!). Any help out there? It would be greatly appreciated ... and possibly save me the loss of $100 or so to the iTunes black-hole. Thanks in advance ...

  • HT203433 I cannot find some of my previous purchased songs on iTunes Music Store? Lost?? Strange!

    Hi,
I have lost many musics in the same album which I had purchased on iTunes Music Store.
I bought an album named "100 Supreme Classical Masterpieces: Rise of the Masters" about a year ago. It is a collection of classical music. It was a 100 piece of music but now I want to re-download it but it only shows me 15 tracks. I've checked it is not hidden. I've tried to search for it in iTunes Music and I found it. It is a 100 track album and it says that you've purchased this but in Purchase section only gives me 15 songs. Please help
    Any idea?
    Thank you.

I'm having the same problem with iTunes 11. When I purchase songs for the iTunes Store, they don't appear in iTunes for me. They appear immediately on my mobile devices, but in order to get them to appear in iTunes, I have to turn off iTunes Match and then turn it back on, and even then they only appear as being available for download. Oddly enough, if I go into the iTunes Media/Downloads folder, the original downloaded files are there. It's as if they aren't getting fully processed by iTunes and indexed properly after they are downloaded. It's incredibly annoying. I could probably drag those files into iTunes to add them, but I haven't tried that yet. Hopefully Apple will resolve this issue quickly. In the meantime, check your iTunes Media/Downloads folder. The files are probably there.

  • I'm a new MAC user and I'm trying to transfer my iTunes music files to my Mac, however when I attach the external drive that contains the music files, they aren't visible on the MAC (but they are visible on my old PC).  How do I get my music loaded?

  • ITunes music in folder but iTunes can't locate it after transfer to exHD.

I recently purchased an external hard drive to transfer all my music to since my internal hard drive is full. I followed all the directions to change the iTunes folder to the external drive but it only copied 338 of 619 folders(artist). I tried it again and it copied 558 folders. I finally changed it back to the original folder but now most of the music, videos, etc. are not found by iTunes. However, the info in the current iTunes window shows I have all the albums, artist and songs. All the album art is there too. I've tried selecting a few songs and bringing them over manually and iTunes plays like normal. I really need to get the music off the internal hard drive to free up space but I first need to have iTunes find all the music that is in the iTunes Music folder. I have also tried removing the iTunes library file and replacing it with the previous one before the 8.0 but that didn't help so I put it back the way it was. Is there a simple way to tell iTunes to search the folder and replace the missing songs/movies/etc. inside of locating them one by one?

Well I finally got it to work. Part of my problem was with my Time Capsule. When I finally got it working and could access the iTunes folder on it and I just restored the old iTunes Library file and erased the current one. It couldn't find about 10 artist but I just did the "add to library" command and got them all back. I also create the new file location in the window pane through iTunes instead of creating a folder on the external drive then just picking that folder. I think iTunes prefers you create the new folder within the software. Lastly, I copied the new iTunes Library file and dragged it into the "Previous Library" folder as a backup.

  • ITunes music permissions and new user on Lion

Lately iTunes has been making me crazy.  I had to create a new user account on my iMac due to problems with my original admin account.  I tried to move my iTunes music library by changing where iTunes looks for the media in the original account and pointing it to the iTunes media folder in the new account.  I had keep iTunes music folder organized, did not check off Copy Music and said yes to the "Do you want iTunes to move your media to match the new settings blah blah blah."  It did indeed move most of the files to the new account.  Prior to that change I tried to change the persmissions on the music folder so that both accounts had full access then chose Apply to Enclosed Items.  In fact, what I really want is there to be no permissions restrictions on any of my files.  Now as I add my music files to the new User's iTiunes library, it no longer organizes the music like it did before.   I checked info on a random file and saw the permissions seemed crazy.  There were like sixentries, duplicates and one that said Custom.  I just want to no restrictions on this stuff.  Permissions are such a pain.  I am not at some company where only certain people can access certain stuff.  I want full access to everything regardless of which user I am in.  Please help me sort out this permissions stuff.  I have read extensively about them but obviously still don't fully get it.

I did that but now iTunes will not organize the files, presumably because they are set to the previous user.  It will add them, but not organize, which seems like it would mean the new user is only set to read only while the other can read & write.  I have tried changing permissions then choosing Apply to Enclosed Items but it does not always seem to change everything.

  • How to move iTunes Music Library from an external HD to another?

Yesterday I tried to move all my music from an external HD to a new bigger one.
Well, I encountered various problems, the most important one is that the “iTunes Music Library” file messed up.
I transferred all files and both “iTunes Music Library.xml” and the “iTunes Library” file in the new HD. I have to say that I didn't know so much about those two files and I thought that it was enough to move them in the new location; I discovered that those files included the information about where the music is located (among other infos), so it still redirects to the older HD.
However, now I’m trying to recreate the previous situation on the older HD, and I’m trying to “rebuild” the iTunes Library (I have a back-up of the xml file, even if it is not the running one).
This operation is very important for me because about two years ago I used (for a long time )an earlier version of iTunes that had a bug: even if wrote all the tag infos on an a mp3, the “artist name” and “album name” tags didn’t remained. But I still can see all the informations through the iTunes browser (thanks to the iTunes Music Library DB). So, I cannot recreate it from zero. I absolutely need to export the existing “iTunes Music Library” to the new HD, or at least to use the existing “iTunes Music Library”, leaving it where it already is and moving only the “iTunes Music folder” (even if I don’t want to use two external HDs, the older one holding the existing “iTunes Music Library” e “iTunes Library” files and the newer one holding the “itunes Music” folder I moved!).
As far as you know how can I move safely “iTunes Music Library” e “iTunes Library” files on the new HD applying them to the new “iTunes Music” folder??
    I really need your help!
    This article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307074 didn’t help.
    Stefano

Sorry, I wasn't responding to you, just the original poster. I didn't look at the date on that posting and didn't realize that you'd added a post that wasn't quite the same problem. In future, you'll find you get better answers if you start your own thread. You're issue really is a bit more complicated.
If iTunes currently recognizes all the music on both internal and the external drives, it should work. You have to make sure that both drives (old and new) are mounted. Make sure you have both "Keep iTunes music organized" (you probably already do) and "Copy files to iTunes..." (you probably don't) checked.
If not all of the music is currently in your iTunes library, perform the procedure with the music that is a part of the library and add the other stuff afterwards.
    Best of luck.

  • Can I manually edit the iTunes Music Library.xml file

    Here's why.
Noticed on my Apple TV that there were a number of podcasts that when selected would say "Apple TV cannot play the current song".
Looked in iTunes and these podcasts are no where to be found. Did some searches in Spotlight and also, turned up zeros. Not found.
I then looked directly into my iTunes Music Library.xml file and sure enough there are the records.
What is odd is that the location of all the bad songs have a similar invalid path.
    Bad path.
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/iTunes/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/Podcasts/KQED/podcast.mp3</string>
    Correct Path
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/iTunes/Music/Podcasts/KQED'/podcast.mp3</string>
Now, all of these have dates that lead me to believe this was due to an iTunes upgrade back in September of 2005. It doesn't look like they are causing problems with iTunes itself. However, it is quite annoying for my Apple TV.
Question. Is there a different way to fix this than just manually removing the entries from the xml file?
I haven't tried to edit the iTunes Music Library.xml file just yet as I want to make I don't totally screw things up first.

I did some additional testing here and I deleted the track information from the iTunes Music Library.xml
On start up of iTunes, it does not add the deleted file back in. On the Apple TV, it still shows the bad file.
What I think that means is that even the Apple TV gets its playlist information from another source.
I have also started on another track which is to remove all of my podcasts from iTunes. Which I have now done.
The only ones left are these bad tracks that only show up in the iTunes Music Library.xml file and more importantly on my Apple TV.
I'd put this on the podcast or the Apple TV thread, but still believe this is an iTunes issue.

  • Restored my Macbook Pro but my iTunes content was saved on a separate partition. When I re-setup iTunes the status bar reports 30gb less content than my iTunes Music folder. How can I find what is 'missing'?

My Macbook Pro software was failing and the Apple Store was able to restore it without removing the partition on my hard drive that contained most of my files including all my iTunes content. Initially when I re-setup my library I simply went to file--> add to library. Shortly after I realized that was essentially copying the library to the other portion of the partition because I forgot to change the location of the library. So I deleted the content already copied & then I re-setup the library, by asking it to be pulled from the previous location using this pages advice: iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
It appeared to work & everything I thought was imported. But on closer inspection, it appears that I have 30gbs less appearing on the status bar in the iTunes app than I do when I pull up the info on the iTunes Music folder in my finder. I'm not sure if this means somehow I have 30gbs of duplicates in my finder folder or if (most likely) I somehow didn't fully import the library from that file. Any advice? Is there a way to restore iTunes to factory settings again & set it up correctly this time?
Also I never actually trashed the original content I accidentally transferred to the other drive but when i skimmed those in my trash bin it appears they ARE indeed in iTunes, so I have no clue what didn't actually import. Any ideas?! I'd greatly appreciate it!

You could have all the computers point to the same library but it can't be opened by more than one at any time.
No answer for knowing which library is in use other than selecting it at startup.  This question gets asked here occasionally but I don't think it is a high-demand feature since most people have just one library.  I guess you could put in an empty playlist with the library name so you have an identifier.
