Itunes music saved on external drive, now have new system. How to get itunes to see my music

I have been saving my tunes on an external disk. I now have a new system. I went in to edit->preferences advanced tab and changed the Itunes Media Folder Location to my external location. I've done this before and seem to remember doing something else but can't remember what.

You need to learn how to type in "external drive" into the search box of the Support pages on this site for iTunes. Once you learn that you will find nifty articles such as this one...

I tried to transfer itunes onto an external drive, now have serious probs.

I tried to transfer itunes onto an external drive, then i deleted the itunes folder from the computer. This completely emptied itunes......oops... then i put back the music saved on the drive back onto itunes, but its only put on a small amount, all of my playlists are gone and most of the album artwork....aaaahhhh..... I havent synced my ipod yet, is there any way of replacing all of the lost data transferring it back onto itunes from the ipod itself?

Can I store my music on an external drive and have itunes pull from c:drive

so, without changing or reassigning my drive location is it possible to store my library on one drive and the itunes on the c:drive? i have tried to load itunes on my external drive, but it continues to place on my c:drive instead. and, since the space available on my c: is not nearly as much as an external drive i have......what can i do????

I currently have my entire iTunes Library (Music, Movies, TV Shows, etc.) on an external hard drive.
I have a new Mac arriving tomorrow, to replace my current one. What is the easiest way to get my entire Library into iTunes on my new Mac?
I know Migration Assistant is normally supposed to help with this, but I assume that's only if the Library has been stored internally. Can I simply plug the external drive into the new Mac, authorize the computer, and Import my entire Library from the File menu?
Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!

From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/Music/ as the folder's path, and drag the entire iTunes library, including the database files, to it.
Alternatively, you can drag the entire library to any location on the internal drive, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, and choose it.
If you only put the songs and not the database files on the external drive, drag it to the internal drive and from there to the library in the open iTunes application window.

Getting a new computer-how to get ITunes purchases onto it

Last year, my laptop with ITunes broke apart and I had to get a new laptop. When I re-installed ITunes and synched my IPOD, all of my purchases were gone and not showing up in my account. My Itunes had an error while updating, now have to reinstall, but keep getting errors

If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

Had to purchase new computer - how to get itunes to delete old one?

Yesterday after loading some itunes apps and stuff, my whole computer crashed. I got the dreaded BSOD. I ended up purchasing a new laptop today. I have went to itunes it keeps asking if I want to erase this ipod and replace with the library on this computer. I don't want to do that. I wasn't able to save anything from the old computer. It did transfer the songs that were on her ipod to the laptop, but not the games. It also did not transfer a new app I just purchased for her. It shows it in my purchases, but it won't sync over. Please help! I don't know what caused my crash and I don't want to go thru it again!!!

Regarding the games, is the computer authorized for the account that purchased the games? If not they will not transfer. You can always redownload them at no cost. See:

You will end up having to erase the contents of the iPod and replace them with those in Itunes of the new computer though.
