ITunes music skips only in iTunes

Okay, I have a pretty decent laptop and have half of my memory free on it, however, my music on iTunes constantly skips and I can sometimes press pause and play again and it will be fine or sometimes it just goes away but the problem will happen again. This doesnt happen in Windows Media Player or any other audio player but those dont play all the songs I have on my iTunes so I need iTunes. Please help me.

Hmm, that's what I did. I downloaded into WMP and listened to it to make sure it wasn't skipping like iTunes. Sounded fine. I had always used WMA but my girlfriend had changed it to MP3, so when I downloaded it into WMP I thought maybe MP3 wouldn't be the way to go. I am not sure how to confirm it is MP3 other than the drop-down under ripping has MP3 checked. I'll try it again ED, thanks very much for your advise in this matter.

  • Why is my itunes music skipping and how do i fix it?

my music is skipping when i play it, and it is not music that i have burned from a scratched cd, and it worked without skipping a day ago. it is not just one song, most of them skip at at least one point in time on the song. the only thing that i could think of that may have caused this is that the other day when i tried updating my ipod the cable fell out and so it was unplugged from my computer in the middle of an update, which is obviuosly bad, and then when i tried updating it again it got stuck on one song that i have since deleted. the music on my ipod that i updated works fine too. so could that have caused the problem, and how do i fix it?

Jeff, is the music skipping in iTunes? Or is it on the iPod?
    If in iTunes, try this:

  • ITunes Music 'Skipping' every 41 seconds...

I have had a recurring and annoying problem with itunes of late...ever since I recently upgraded. At one time I could burn a disk and play it without any sound quality issues but after upgrading to 8.0.1 or so I noticed that every 41 seconds the music would skip, much like the stylus on a record for a fraction of a second, it happens throughout the song.
I've tried searching assorted forums to see if they had any ideas and following some other fixes tried- switching off the equalizer, only ran itunes alone, used different brands of CDs, downloaded the latest version of itunes from the Apple website itself(8.1.1), used the lowest burn speed etc etc and still the problem persists. I've wasted about ten CDs now and the cost is adding up but even worse is the project needs to be completed by Saturday AM and time is running out for me....HELP!!!

Yes, it seems that iTunes is flaky no matter how much you give it. The only thing I can suggest is that you try rebooting and quitting ALL processes before starting iTunes and attempting to burn the CD. If that fails, you may have to try to find another program to burn the disc.

  • ITunes music in folder but iTunes can't locate it after transfer to exHD.

I recently purchased an external hard drive to transfer all my music to since my internal hard drive is full. I followed all the directions to change the iTunes folder to the external drive but it only copied 338 of 619 folders(artist). I tried it again and it copied 558 folders. I finally changed it back to the original folder but now most of the music, videos, etc. are not found by iTunes. However, the info in the current iTunes window shows I have all the albums, artist and songs. All the album art is there too. I've tried selecting a few songs and bringing them over manually and iTunes plays like normal. I really need to get the music off the internal hard drive to free up space but I first need to have iTunes find all the music that is in the iTunes Music folder. I have also tried removing the iTunes library file and replacing it with the previous one before the 8.0 but that didn't help so I put it back the way it was. Is there a simple way to tell iTunes to search the folder and replace the missing songs/movies/etc. inside of locating them one by one?

Well I finally got it to work. Part of my problem was with my Time Capsule. When I finally got it working and could access the iTunes folder on it and I just restored the old iTunes Library file and erased the current one. It couldn't find about 10 artist but I just did the "add to library" command and got them all back. I also create the new file location in the window pane through iTunes instead of creating a folder on the external drive then just picking that folder. I think iTunes prefers you create the new folder within the software. Lastly, I copied the new iTunes Library file and dragged it into the "Previous Library" folder as a backup.

  • How can I move my iTunes music to a new iTunes account?

I need to unsync my iPhone from my spouces iPhone and I understand the only way to do this is to have my own iTunes account.  Can someone please help me with instructions on how to move my music to my new iTunes account?

Well according to what I said earlier about an account being the online account for purchasing music and what you said earlier about what you meant was indeed the online account, not what you have on your computer, then leilaboxergirl's answer was not correct.  Since you marked it as correct then what you meant was not an account after all but files from your iTunes collection.
By the way, you can do it all without a CD just by dragging tracks to a flash drive, then dragging them to an iTunes window on another computer.  Alternatively, if the computers are on the same home network you can use Home Sharing and do it all wirelessly.
Incidentally, you don't "burn songs from disc to that account".  You will rip songs from the CD to the iTunes collection or library on your computer.  Burning is what you do to put tracks on a CD not get them from a CD to a computer.
Terminology is important here or confusion will end up with you doing something wrong another time and wipe all your files or something.

  • Can I add the iTunes Music Library (old) to iTunes Music Library?

Hi, I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend and I don't want to give her incorrect advice ... She has an Intel G5 iMac running 10.5.8 and iTunes 9.0 (she has downloaded but not installed the iTUnes 9.1 update).
Her problem is that she has deleted certain songs from her 'Jane Doe's iPod Playlist' so that she didn't have those songs on her iPod - I don't know the method she used to do this, nor does she. However, it has resulted in those songs now not showing up in the iTunes music library on her computer. There's just an exclamation mark and a dialog box asking if she would like to locate the songs.
She asked me to help her out and I discovered that all these songs (there are dozens- more than a hundred - of them) are still on her computer in a folder called 'iTunes Music old' - this is a sub-folder of the iTUnes Music folder where the path is Music - iTunes - iTunes Music.
    My question is this -
Is it possible to select all the albums in this 'iTUnes Music old' folder and simply drag and drop it onto the iTunes Music folder (after making sure that the location I'm dragging and dropping to corresponds to the location for her library as specified on the advanced tab of preferences) so that the songs will be back in the default library?
It seems to me that it should work but I don't want to be responsible for the person who loses all her music for her if it doesn't.
I would really appreciate someone who knows their way around iTUnes telling me the best way to sort her music and whether or not she should install the 9.1 update before or after reorganising the library.
    Cheers
    Tricia

If you're seeing the , that's generally an indication that media files (the mp3 or m4a, etc., files) were moved using Finder. They were moved or removed and the iTunes library wasn't able to keep track of where they went. If this is an old machine that she's messed around with, it can be a bit of a crap shoot trying to figure out where the stuff should go (iTunes is quite unhelpful in telling you where the music for the broken links was expected to be ... you can take some guesses, but iTunes 9 and iTunes 8 use different folder structures, so getting the stuff in the right place can be a nuisance).
Surprisingly complicated question. If you were confident of where the music files should go, you could try moving them (safer, copy them) to your current iTunes media folder and if you drop them in the exact same spot they were before, your broken links problem will be solved. It's a long shot, though.
There are apps out there for rebuilding libraries, but if you don't have extensive playlists that would take forever to rebuild (or you don't have lots of ratings or things like that which you are trying to preserve), I'd personally be inclined to rebuild her library from scratch by:
Create a new library by pressing and holding down the option button while you start iTunes, keep holding the button down until it prompts you to create a new library.
Go into the "Advanced" section of the "Preferences" screen and tell iTunes to (a) keep your folder organized and (b) to copy music to the new media folder.
Use the "Add Folder to Library" command on the "File" menu to add the music to your iTunes Library. This will copy the music to the new folder you specified in the previous step. Repeat this for her old iTunes folders (sounds like she might have it in different areas). Nice thing is, you can select some common parent folder (e.g. your parent "music" folder) and you'll only have to do this once.
Once iTunes is done copying music to the new media folder and has rebuilt the new library, you can clean up the old music media files that it sounds like are scattered about on her machine.
Again, I personally lean towards just rebuilding the iTunes library, allowing iTunes to organize the files like it wants, and then rebuild your playlists. But, if you'd rather try to repair her old library in situ, then you'll want to check out some of the apps designed for repairing broken links in libraries. Let us know if you want to do that and we can point you to some apps that might be able to help.
It seems to me that it should work but I don't want to be responsible for the person who loses all her music for her if it doesn't.
It's kind of hard to lose the music unless you do something nuts like drag stuff to the trash without making sure you've got a copy/backup somewhere. In fact, go ahead and have her back up her machine before you start. And when you're all done, and you've confirmed that everything is great, do another backup.
I would really appreciate someone who knows their way around iTUnes telling me the best way to sort her music and whether or not she should install the 9.1 update before or after reorganising the library.
Unless her version of iTunes is archaic (v7 or earlier), I'd suggest fixing her library first, and then doing the upgrade. Let's not add variables to the situation. Also, I don't know what the iTunes upgrade process would do with the broken links in her existing library.
Frankly, there are enough bugs/problems with 9.1, you might want to wait until 9.1.1 comes out anyway. I personally regret doing the 9.1 upgrade. It works, but I'm working around various bugs. And some people are having very serious problems. If you absolutely need 9.1 (e.g., iPad), you can do it and you'll probably be fine. But unless you need 9.1 for some reason, I'd wait for 9.1.1 release.

  • ITunes Music saved twice in iTunes and iTunes Media folders

I am using an old MacBook Air for my iTunes, which has limited hard drive space.  My husband also has his music on this computer under his own user name.  We keep having problems with disk space now, and when doing a search with OmniDisk Sweeper it is showing that the iTunes music files are double the amount of music actually stored - it seems that the music is being stored both in the iTunes folder and iTunes Media floder.
Can one of these folders be removed, or can they be consolidated in some way, or is the only solution to put all our music on to an external hard drive?
I'm fairly new to using Macs, so please bear that in mind!
Many thanks in advance for your help.

  • Share iTunes music folder - Vista SP2 - iTunes 8.2.0.23

I have one new computer. There are 5 users that all need to be able to access all exactly the same music.
I've followed the instructions on page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 but it doesn't work.
Specifically, Windows Step 2 is not right for Vista - the directory \Documents and Settings\AllUsers.WINDOWS\Documents doesn't exist. And the folder \Users\Public\Public Music is publicly available.
I've set the iTunes music folder to C:\Users\Public\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
But the other user's don't 'see' any of the music.
    1. Is it possible to fully share all iTunes libraries (including mobile apps and purchased songs and apps - so any rip or purchase by any user appears in everyone's libraries).
    2. How do I get the other users to 'see' this music. Or asking another way, how do I reset each user's iTunes profile.
    3. On a similar note, why is it not possible for each user to even load iTunes if another user is logged in and on iTunes? All other apps can be open even if another user is using it, e.g. Word or Excel.
    Thanks for your help.
    Peter

Step 2 for Windows lists the Vista path right below the XP path:
    +Windows Vista: \Users\username\Music\iTunes+
Did you see the sentence below step 9?
+Repeat these steps for each account that is sharing music with other users.+
    So to answer your questions,
    1. Yes, it's possible. Make sure you read all the steps in that article.
    2. Same answer.
    3. Because itunes wasn't designed to use Windows fast user switching. It's quite annoying, isn't it?
Once you get things set up, you might want to look into using a little free program named "iTunes Folder Watch" so you don't have to add music to all the users by hand.

  • ITunes Music folder with my iTunes folder

I'm trying to organize my music and I have a problem: If I open my main music folder and then open my iTunes folder, I see many folders of all my assorted artists. Among those is another folder called "iTunes Music" that seems to duplicate all the same artists. What's the safest way to delete these so that I don't have all the duplicates? Also, how did that get there? I seem to recall deleting these in the past, but somehow they have reappeared. Thanks....

  • When transfering music into itunes, music not showing in itunes app, but songs are in music folder.

when i transfered many songs from external hard drive into itunes library, the songs do not appear after transfer completes. it appears as if songs are being added to library. when i search through itunes app, songs are missing, when i go to the folder on computer that holds my itunes library songs are there. any help?
latest version of itunes with windows 7.
    thanks

Create a smart playlist that would match one of the albums. I suspect you'll find the tracks show up in it...
My guess is that something has gone wrong with the internal index of the Music playlist. Download the current iTunes Free Single of the Week. I know it sounds odd, but it should  fix the problem.
If that doesn't work close iTunes and delete the hidden file sentinel from inside the main iTunes library folder, then start iTunes again. iTunes should run a consistency check when it starts up which ought to clear up any anomalies.

  • ITunes music library only syncs a few albums

I got a 16GB 3GS today and have just updated iTunes to v9.2 as required. The iPhone has also been updated to OS4. However, when I try to sync 'Entire music library' (which should be 227 albums), iTunes will only sync 313 songs. Have tried manual sync as well as auto, un-syncing and re-syncing, but it always syncs the same 313 songs (which appear to be a random selection from my library). Anyone have any ideas - it's driving me mad!

Same issue here, only iTunes is only syncing 32 random songs (several I've never even listened to... they just happen to be on the CDs) out of 2827 possible songs. Tried manual, tried rebooting the phone and laptop, tried entire library (which won't fit but it still sticks the same 32 ***** songs in there)... nothin' doin'!

  • Front Row/Air Port Express/iTunes music skips

I have my main music library on my Mac Pro. I'm using the Front Row interface on my MacBook to pull songs from the Mac Pro via AirPort Express. I'm also shuffling a large playlist. The MacBook then sends the song back to AirPort Express and to a set of wired speakers. When playing through Front Row, the song will skip and delay. Sometimes I have to back out of Front Row to get Front Row to proceed to the next song or change volume. Any thoughts?

I have the same problems with my iTunes playing over AirTunes from my PowerBook. Certainly it occurs if iTunes skips over a track that is not currently available to the library (e.g. if it is on a disconnected hard drive). iTunes itself doesn't care about the missing file (it skips over) but the playback through AirTunes stops; even though the track appears to continue playing on the iTunes application.
I have not found a cure (other than ensuring every one of the tracks is available at the point where it is playing - and everything else is working flawlessly!).
