Itunes music skips

when songs played on itunes get to 10 seconds the songs skip for about 2 seconds and then play. this includes songs purchased from itunes and songs i downloaded from cd. i uninstalled itunes and quick time and reinstalled the latest version of itunes. no problems with my ipod.

Why is my itunes music skipping and how do i fix it?

my music is skipping when i play it, and it is not music that i have burned from a scratched cd, and it worked without skipping a day ago. it is not just one song, most of them skip at at least one point in time on the song. the only thing that i could think of that may have caused this is that the other day when i tried updating my ipod the cable fell out and so it was unplugged from my computer in the middle of an update, which is obviuosly bad, and then when i tried updating it again it got stuck on one song that i have since deleted. the music on my ipod that i updated works fine too. so could that have caused the problem, and how do i fix it?

Jeff, is the music skipping in iTunes? Or is it on the iPod?

ITunes music skips only in iTunes

Okay, I have a pretty decent laptop and have half of my memory free on it, however, my music on iTunes constantly skips and I can sometimes press pause and play again and it will be fine or sometimes it just goes away but the problem will happen again. This doesnt happen in Windows Media Player or any other audio player but those dont play all the songs I have on my iTunes so I need iTunes. Please help me.

Hmm, that's what I did. I downloaded into WMP and listened to it to make sure it wasn't skipping like iTunes. Sounded fine. I had always used WMA but my girlfriend had changed it to MP3, so when I downloaded it into WMP I thought maybe MP3 wouldn't be the way to go. I am not sure how to confirm it is MP3 other than the drop-down under ripping has MP3 checked. I'll try it again ED, thanks very much for your advise in this matter.

ITunes Music 'Skipping' every 41 seconds...

I have had a recurring and annoying problem with itunes of late...ever since I recently upgraded. At one time I could burn a disk and play it without any sound quality issues but after upgrading to 8.0.1 or so I noticed that every 41 seconds the music would skip, much like the stylus on a record for a fraction of a second, it happens throughout the song.
I've tried searching assorted forums to see if they had any ideas and following some other fixes tried- switching off the equalizer, only ran itunes alone, used different brands of CDs, downloaded the latest version of itunes from the Apple website itself(8.1.1), used the lowest burn speed etc etc and still the problem persists. I've wasted about ten CDs now and the cost is adding up but even worse is the project needs to be completed by Saturday AM and time is running out for me....HELP!!!

Yes, it seems that iTunes is flaky no matter how much you give it. The only thing I can suggest is that you try rebooting and quitting ALL processes before starting iTunes and attempting to burn the CD. If that fails, you may have to try to find another program to burn the disc.

Front Row/Air Port Express/iTunes music skips

I have my main music library on my Mac Pro. I'm using the Front Row interface on my MacBook to pull songs from the Mac Pro via AirPort Express. I'm also shuffling a large playlist. The MacBook then sends the song back to AirPort Express and to a set of wired speakers. When playing through Front Row, the song will skip and delay. Sometimes I have to back out of Front Row to get Front Row to proceed to the next song or change volume. Any thoughts?

I have the same problems with my iTunes playing over AirTunes from my PowerBook. Certainly it occurs if iTunes skips over a track that is not currently available to the library (e.g. if it is on a disconnected hard drive). iTunes itself doesn't care about the missing file (it skips over) but the playback through AirTunes stops; even though the track appears to continue playing on the iTunes application.
I have not found a cure (other than ensuring every one of the tracks is available at the point where it is playing - and everything else is working flawlessly!).

ITunes music skipping

purchased and downloaded 8 songs from itunes yesterday. synced with ipod shuffle and they play fine on the shuffle but when playing them through the pc in the itunes player they skip. tried to burn to cd and some skip on the cd and some didn't even burn. tried to create aac version and still no luck.

Since installing OS X Lion yesterday my iMac 24inch (mid 2007) seems to be stuttering a bit in iTunes

Same here. iMac 27-inch as well. I've been watching the Activity Monitor thinking it was a CPU issue but can't seem to find any correlation between the "skip" and the processes. The place in the song where the "skip" occurs is not in a consistent place either. Nor does the same song always skip.

I keep getting error notices that multiple songs I'm trying to sync "can not be converted"! Originally out of 400 songs on my apple products 1/2 wouldn't "convert" then each time I sync'd it would "convert" a few more now I've have probably 25 songs that are on my phone, are in my purchase history on my phone in iTunes but will not play and skip to the next song or several songs down the play list. When I pull up my account on iTunes, music that I've purchased recently doesn't show in my purchases but shows in my purchases in my iPhone/iPad. Oh, and yes, I've wiped the phone several times and tried to recover to an older version without success as it continues to want to upgrade me to 8.1.2 which is junk!

ITunes Music Videos Skipping in Windows 8.1

About three iTunes updates ago, I began to have chronic problems with my iTunes music videos crashing on both of my Windows XP computers. I stopped purchasing altogether. I just bought a new computer with Windows 8.1. The iTunes videos play, but the quality is not great. I can hear little skips in almost every video, like an old vinyl LP with a few scratches. The same videos play beautifully on my iPod, and I've played music DVDs on my new computer with good results. I am so disappointed that this new computer didn't completely resolve this problem with iTunes videos. Any ideas without a lot of hoop jumping?

Replying to my own post to add that it is not just the sound that skips, but the picture. It seems very random.

Music skips on Windows 8.1 64-bit with iTunes 12.1

Okay, this is probably going to sound strange, but its true.....
When I am listening to music in iTunes 12.1 and I have Google Chrome opened, the music skips. I can open any other application and not have that problem, just only when Chrome is opened. Needless to say, I switched to Firefox and now the music does not skip. Has anyone else experienced this?
My PC specs:
Windows 8.1 64-bit
AMD A6-3620 (4 CPUs) ~ 2.2GHz
NVidia Geforce GTX 550 Ti (4GB memory) Dedicated Graphics Card
8GB RAM
Sound Blaster Audigy Fx Dedicated Sound Card
1920x1080 screen resolution

The section Install missing components may allow you to install Apple Application Support.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

I've never had problems with iTunes, but I recently moved to a SSD and now music skips.

Howdy all. I've recently replaced my Analog HDD with a Solid State drive, (Samsung 840 250GB) which is so much faster, but only problem now is when listening to iTunes, I notice serious skipping. I have reinstalled drivers for chipset, audio, optimized the BIOS, yet still experience skips while under processor load, and also when system is only playing audio. I had no problems with this prior to the SSD and all was solid. I have uninstalled iTunes, rebooted and reinstalled to no avail. I'm running a Dell Latitude E6500 with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz with 4GB DDR2 667. The SSD is a Samsung MZ-7TD250. All else on the machine is rock solid. Any advice on this? iTunes version is 11.0.4.4.

I don't have a definite answer, but by any chance do you have your hard drive encrypted? (e.g. Windows BitLocker, or a third-party full-disk encryption package)
Playing my iTunes media files on my laptop used to work perfectly. Ever since the full disk encryption software was installed, my music skips & buzzes (and sometimes just plays more slowly, which is really weird) whenever the files don't get decrypted fast enough. That's usually when other apps are also accessing files, maybe there's a disk access priority scheme that doesn't work as well when it has to funnel through the decryption driver?
Also, although my symptoms are occurring on a rotating disc drive, I've heard that there are some compatability problems between the disk encryption packages and the SSDs.

After the 11.1.1 upgrade iTunes skips songs after a certain period of time. The skipping moment is different for a bunch of songs, but it's staying the same for each of those songs (one song always skips at 0:34, another one always at 0:05, etc.). When I manually set the "marker" right behind that moment the songs play through to the end. All the files are ok. When I drag them to the desktop and play them in preview or VLC the problem does not occur! There is also no exclamation mark or anything...
Any ideas anbody? I'm really dazed...

Music on iTunes keeps skipping

I have the latest version of iTunes on my computer & every since I downloaded it all of my music skips after playing for about 5 seconds (like when your CD has a scratch). The only exception is the new album that I just purchased off of iTunes last week, it will play no problem.

My library started skipping today as well - very frustrating. First time since iTunes 1.0 has this ever happened. Any other ideas out there? Does not seem to matter is it's a personal CD rip or if it's a purchased download.

You can only add music to iTunes Match from your iTunes library on your computer, not from your iOS device. If you have music on your iPad that is not on your computer, you'll have to import it to your iTunes library on your computer to add it to iTunes Match.
Music purchased from the iTunes store can be imported directly to your iTunes library by authorizing your computer for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase the music (in Store>Authorize This Computer), then connecting the iPad to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases. Music from other sources will require using 3rd party software to transfer to your computer, such as Touch Copy.
