Itunes music sorting question, itunes is sorting part of a cd incorrectly

ok here's the problem. I just imported a cd onto my itunes music file. it was originally filed as two cd's, one with the regular cd, the second with four bonus tracks that were released on various versions of the particular cd. this is what happened. itunes put the regular cd with the other cd's I have by the artist, but the bonus songs? they were stored in a new list, same band name, in an unalphabetized location on my itunes browser. the band is called "10 years" and the regular cd is, like I stated above, filed with the rest of the ten years tracks, but the bonus material? it's stored near the top of my artist list in a now new label that says ten years. i selected all the files for the cd, put them in as one cd, with one cd title, all filed as (correct track number) of 17 tracks, and its still sorting them separately. so in summation, the regular cd's 13 tracks are filed with the rest of the ten years tracks, but the bonus songs are filed in an all new ten years artist label at the top of my artist list, instead of at the bottom where the band names that start with numbers are stored. in the six or so years i've used i tunes this has never happened. i've imported hundreds upon hundreds of cd's into itunes and this has NEVAR happened. I tried deleting the cd, after it was correctly labeled and then re importing it but to the same no effect. it still files them separately, and incorrectly i must add. lastly, the actual file location of the tracks is correct. they're all in my ten years file, all in one folder under the cd title. when i select the "correct" ten years file on my itunes browser all the songs are listed, but the bonus songs are above the regular songs on the list. so track 1-13 are UNDER track 14-17. now I know its not a big "problem" but it IS quite frustrating. I'm a little OCD about my music and dont want anything out of order or mislabeled, etc. if you have ANY idea what is causing this issue please help. i would appreciate it.

Ah, that's the same fix as I describe in One album, still too many covers. I've no idea why iTunes does this one either. Funnily enough it seems to happen sometimes when I rename an existing album which is properly grouped so I know the values must be consistent because I've only just changed them, and did so all at the same time.

  • "iTunes music" folder inside "iTunes"

in iTunes preferences i have  /Users/me/Music/iTunes for my iTunes Media folder location
inside this folder i find a folder called "iTunes Music" that contains: duplications from the "iTunes" folder (in the higher level), songs/albums which are exclusively there but not linked from iTunes (when i ask i tunes to "reveal in finder"), and some which ARE linked from iTunes -- so, i cant really understand the logic of it.
something tells me it got to do with the home sharing, because i find there some tracks from other libraries/computers... but all and all, it takes some lots of space on my HD, and i would be happy to know if there's a way to consolidate all of it into one folder and get rid of the duplication.
    thanks for the help!

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called iTunes Music instead of iTunes Media. The extra Music folder inside the media folder is used if you have allowed iTunes to Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization (iTunes 9) or used File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (iTunes 10). Depending on your choices for Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other.
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your files the following steps should tidy things up (should it be necessary):
    1. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" and click OK. Skip if this option is greyed out (already upgraded) or you prefer the older layout.
    2. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Consolidate files and click OK. This will bring any files currently organised outside the designated media folder into it.   NB This will create duplicate copies of any file that needs to be consolidated, and you will need to manually clean up afterwards. If space is at a premium try Doug Scripts has something that will move files rather than copy them.
    3. Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab, uncheck Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK.
    4. Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab, check Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK. This triggers iTunes into reorganizing everything according to your preferences.
    5. (Optional) Close iTunes, rename the folder iTunes Music as iTunes Media then restart iTunes. Check under Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab that the location has automatically updated. If you can't access the media for any reason just undo the folder rename. (Assumes you don't already have a folder called iTunes Media and that iTunes Music is the currently designated media folder.)
PS If you really prefer the older layout, but it is already in the new one then edit the file called .iTunes Preferences.plist in your media folder and change the integer from 1 to 0 before doing step 3.

  • I use itunes to store my music but I use Virtual DJ Broadcaster to play it. Somehow itunes has changed from Itunes Music Library to Itunes library. Virtual DJ does not Recognize the change.

I use itunes to store my music but I use Virtual DJ Broadcaster to play it. Somehow itunes has changed from Itunes Music Library to Itunes library. Virtual DJ does not Recognize the change. Virtual DJ  at present seeing an older version of my libraries. Is it possible to Save my last library and Playlist and re-name everything else in my itunes account so it will again show "Itunes Music Library" Past libraries are of no consiquence . I'm hoping removing everything except  the last Library on my computers will make Virtual DJ  recognize it. I tried renameing  the Library to "Itunes Music Library" but it did not work. I fear the problem is in the Registry and without the correct path I am reluctand to play around  in there. Any help would be appreciated.

Incidentally, my first thought was to map a network share from the NAS to my computer, so that my music files appear on the Z: drive, say on my computer. I could then set up iTunes to store music etc in that folder, and to copy all new items to that folder. However, if I do that, all that'll happen is that on my NAS, the library file will become out of date as I add music to the collection but not to the index.

  • ITunes Music Library vs. iTunes Library

What is the difference (datawise) between "iTunes Music Library" and "iTunes Library?"
To add music files to the library while in my C drive, do I click and drag the files into where?? ...the "iTunes folder" or another folder? I can't add them to the .itl or.xml files, so how do I add them??

*to add music files to the library while in my C drive, do I click and drag the files into where??*
You open iTunes and drag the songs to the Source list (the long pane on the left hand side). Alternatively in iTunes go to File>Add file to library or File>Add folder to library and navigate to the file or folder of files that you want to add.
The iTunes Library file is the database that holds all of your library information, song titles, artists, playlists, playcounts etc. The iTunes Music Library is an XML file iTunes uses to communicate library information with other programs. You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?

I have never been able to connect to the iTunes Music Store and I have tried everything on here multiple times. I also have AOL and I was wondering if AOL has any firewall settings that may be blocking me using the music store. Any help would be GREATLY Appreciated.

I don't know about AOL firewall settings, but I'm pretty sure I've seen some posts about them having a software accelerator that blocks iTMS.

  • Using Time Capsule as External Drive for iTunes Music Folder in iTunes 9

First, prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard and iTunes 9, I had my 210 GB of music on a 1TB Time Capsule which I accessed wirelessly through my Macbook Black and I set my path to the "iTunes Music (External) Folder" I created on the Time Capsule as the default path for iTunes to access the iTunes Music (External) Folder. My iTunes Library and Album Art reside on the Macbook hard drive. Unless I opened iTunes when the Macbook was disconnected from the Time Capsule (e.g., not at home), it always remembered the drive path the next time it was opened and would play music fine. If I had to reset the drive path, iTunes would remember it (again, unless I was disconnected from my Time Capsule). Now, under iTunes 9.0.1 and Snow Leopard, iTunes always defaults back to the iTunes Media Folder on the Macbook each time I open iTunes even if I set the path to the Time Capsule. The TC is also used as my airport connection to the cable modem and Home Sharing is enabled. Oddly, iTunes seems to play music just fine even though the drive path to the iTunes Music (External) Folder is not being utilized, which it would not do under the old version of iTunes. A screenshot is below. Anyone know what is going on here?

Make sure the Time Capsule is ready and mounted before launching iTunes.
You can add it (the Time Capsule) to your Login items in System prefs -> Accounts.

I've tried drag and drop and I get nothing i've tried impoting but itunes dose'nt recognize.Even when I try to play the music through itunes nothing happens!!

If you burned the purchased music on a Data DVD, try adding (not importing) them to the library.
Set iTunes to 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' in Preferences>Advanced>General.

  • ITunes Music Library and iTunes Music Folders Contain Different File

I recently lost all of the music off of my iPod because of a defective hard drive. I have now reloaded it all and bought an external hard drive to back-up my music (which music I either purchased from iTunes or copied from CDs I own). When I open iTunes Music Library all of my content is present and it is all on my iPod as well. When I look at iTunes Music Files on my C drive - not all of my content is present (for example, only 2 of 3 Billy Joel cds show up). Thus, when I attempt to back-up, I am not capturing everything that is in my iTunes Music Library. Is there a way to synch these, or is there a reason that they are not the same. Again, in the case of the Billy Joel example, all three discs were owned by me so presumably there is no source issue.
    Thanks

Assuming that you're using the external drive strictly for back-up purposes and keeping "working" copies of your music on the C drive, you can use the Advanced menu > Consolidate Library option to make sure that the entire contents of your Music Library is placed in the iTunes Music folder - default location C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes .

  • Last sorting question Itunes!?

    Hi there,
I haven't really found the answer i was looking for in this support community. Hopefully someone has the right answer for me. Sorry for the image being Dutch, but i will explain in English.
The thing i want to do is:
    1. Being able to see a various artists album in one group (1 coverflow). This i know how to do, on the left side of the image you'll see.
Naam = name or title if you like
    Artiest = artist
Album-artiest = album artist (by keeping this in format of Various Artists, this keeps the album ''together'' as one cover)
    Album = Album
    On the right side
Naamsortering = name sorting (obvious blank, since there are multiple titles in this album, otherwise it sorts no more on the artist which i prefer instead of                          title order)
Artiestsortering = Artistsort (here i copied the artistname, so in the artist list it sort there on alfabetical order) Doesn't work btw see part 2 of my question.
Albumartiest-sortering = (here again i copied the artistname, so when you view a album it sorts the tracks on artist order, i like that!)
Albumsortering = albumsort (this is for sorting the album between other albums on alfabetical order)
So i think i got this end covered. Now for part two.
    2. Search on my Apple TV within artist for example: ''Ultravox'' (see picture above).
The problem i'm having here is that this artist ''Ultravox'' couldn't be found by the search query of my Apple TV. Why is that? I stated that the Artist is named ''Ultravox'', but never the less it can't be found unless i change the album-artist field into ''Ultravox''. But this looses the keeping the album ''together'' as one cover.
So could anyone tell me if its possible to maintain the various artist album and still be able to search for an artist in this album on a Apple tv?
Already many thanks in advance for your time and help

Ah, that's the same fix as I describe in One album, still too many covers. I've no idea why iTunes does this one either. Funnily enough it seems to happen sometimes when I rename an existing album which is properly grouped so I know the values must be consistent because I've only just changed them, and did so all at the same time.

  • Sorting Question iTunes 11

This may be a bug, this may be me doing something incorrect.
I have a CD that is a compilation of music from the 80s.  I want to have it come up in iTunes as a single album in Album view, but when I look at Artist view, I would like the songs to be listed with the artists.  I can't seem to make that happen.
If I put the name of the Album in for Album and Album Artist, but list each song's Artist correctly, the songs will be grouped correctly as a single album in Album View, but they will not be grouped by their artist in Artist view. And, on my iPod and iPhone, the songs will not appear with their artists in Artist view.
If I change the Album Artist to the name of each song's artist, the songs will not be grouped as a single album in Album view, but will group with their individual artists.
I have tried changing the view options and checking and unchecking the Compilation settings, but I haven't found the magic setting.
    Any suggestions?

Actually I have thought in the same way, but it is not.
They are being played as-is in the list, and not alphabetically (random is unchecked).
However, when I copy the same album into iPhone, the tracks are automatically organized alphabeticallt, and played in the proper order.

  • ITUNES MUSIC ARTWORK QUESTION

    Hi there iTunes Peeps,
I recently downloaded the latest version of iTunes (I believe version 8), and now all the album artwork on my iPod Nano is messed up. Different songs by the same artist have the same artwork as the first song... this wasn't a problem with the prior versions of iTunes... Can anyone help me out here, because to be quite frank, it's very annoying when you're listening to Chris Rock's " All Summer Long" and the artwork you see in your library is by Santana... Thanks in advance.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. I think I'm confused myself, I'm sorry. The problem isn't with my iPod (again, my appologies), but with the iTunes library itself. Like when I play music from my computer... You hear for instance a song by Kid Rock and the album image/artwork that is being displayed is that of... say... Madonna... How is that possible... I un-installed and re-installed iTunes twice on my computer already, and the problem persists... When I check to see if the artwork for a song is correct, it always IS correct. But when the song is playing, it's not... I tried deleting the artworks of all songs, then added them again after I rebooted the computer... and still, same thing... I mean: HELLLPPP...
