ITunes Music Store Slow Down

Since upgrading to the latest version of iTunes and Tiger 10.4.7, whenever I try to access the Music Store I see the progress bar with the "accessing music store" message for several minutes. It does eventually load, but everthing in the store is slow. Podcasts also download painfully slow. And it's not a bandwidth thing, I am on a cable modem and the windows box next to me accesses iTunes just fine. Safari, web downloads, and evrything else on the web still accesses as fast as it used to. Can anyone help? Apple?

I've also found all aspects of the Store extremely sluggish since upgrading to 6. Previews and radio streams constantly getting rebuffered (even with the cache set to "Large"), single track downloads taking 5 minutes or more, and searches taking 30 seconds or longer. It makes browsing & purchasing music on iTunes completely impractical and I've since given up my one track a day purchasing habit, probably for the better.
I've found this sluggishness to exist both on my university's campus (T1 Lines) and my home DSL line.

  • ITunes Music Store VERY slow

With the rest of my internet connections working at full speed, I find that the iTunes Music Store has virtually become unresponsive. Minutes go buy waiting for every last click to finish. How can I improve this? It takes 3-4 minutes at least to go from one item to the next in the iTunes Music Store. Browsing is impossible at such speed. Everything else on my Mac is just fine. Using 9.1.
    Help!

I think mine is my Internet provider - Optimum Online.
Did a speed check last night and was getting 2Mb/sec.
    This morning I'm at 13.
I guess Friday night at 10:00 is Optimum throttle down time.
Just coincidence that I noticed this issue when I moved to an external HD... but I did see an answer somewhere saying that could be a problem. shrug

  • Very slow iTunes Music Store performance

Since upgrading to the latest version of iTunes, whenever I try to access the Music Store I see the progress bar with the "accessing music store" message for 5-10 minutes. It eventually loads but then then trying to navigate within the store is just as slow. The other interesting thing is that content on Apple.com that's related to iTunes Music Store (like banner ads, promo content, etc.) is not loading either or might load after 2 or 3 minutes. And it's not a bandwidth thing. I have fiber optic service. Any ideas?

Must have been an ITMS server problem at Apple. Everything is smokin' now.

  • Slow Connection with iTunes Music Store

Hello. I just got to college with a 1.83 Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro that I've had for a couple of months so I am familiar with it. My Broadband Ethernet connection is fine except for the iTunes music store, which is incredibly slow. It takes about 5 minutes to connect to every link within the store, and finve minutes for the initial connection. I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions, un-installed iTunes, re-installed iTunes, emailed and telephoned apple care, and this is my last effort. I do not have a firewall, but still the Music store is incredibly slow. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I just screwed?

Download speed has improved a lot compared to last week. Yesterday I downloaded several albums and it took just a few minutes. I must say it was faster than importing from a CD. That said I must say that there may be some issue with your internet connection. Maybe the ISP is blocking the downloads. Check with your ISP first.

  • Slow response from iTunes Music Store

This is a problem for a lot of iTunes Music Store customers. Many people have complained that they get "cannot connect to the Music Store" error messages. Apple replies that repairing the Keychain can fix the problem, but I and several others in various discussion forums find that doesn't help.
After upgrading to iTunes 6 and repairing my keychain, then restarting, I find that I can connect to the Music Store only after repeated attempts. I get the error message repeatedly, but if I keep trying enough times, I finally get through.
A similar problem happens when I try to preview or buy songs -- I get several error messages, then finally connect.
Using the Radio feature is similarly frustrating. I have to wait ten minutes or more after clicking on a genre to get a list of stations, and often I have to face a long wait with no error messages after selecting a station.
I don't have this problem when connecting to the Music Store from other computers, but I have no other problems connectin to the Web from Safari or Firefox, or with any e-mail program.
However, Apple's site seeems wonky -- lots of "document contains no data" when I click on forums or even to log in.
I am using an iMac G4 (the dome computer) with Mac OS X.2.8.
    Apple, what's the solution?

    You're not alone. Since Saturday I seem to be experiencing two problems;
1: The previews of tracks don't work properly - that is to say, they don't download correctly - I'm on 2Mb broadband and I've had to switch it into download the whole preview before playing due to it only playing 12 seconds of the 30 seconds if I leave it 'on the fly'
    2: I have repeated problems downloading tracks from the ITMS. THey get 50% of the way through then I get ;
"There was an error downloading your purchased music. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
After repeated retries I eventually get the track downloaded but it's painful.
Again - this has only started happening since Saturday (I've been using ITMS on my mac since it opened in the UK), and like I said I'm on 2Mbits/s broadband with no other issues.

  • New Episodes of my Podcast are not showing up in the iTunes Music Store?

this isn't really an "itunes for mac" question, but since i do my production on a mac, i'll ask it here!
i produce and record a weekly podcast (about 2 hours each week) which has been listed in the iTMS since it started (last february)
this last week we recorded episode 31 and uploaded it to my .mac account, and all went well... the new episode is downloading to anyone who already has subscribed to the rss feed (homepage.mac.com/airplayradio/podcast.xml), but it hasn't shown up in the iTunes Music Store... the software i use to upload the shows generates an automatic ping, and i've done a manual ping a couple of times a day since wednesday, but nothing...
any ideas? absolutely -nothing- (software/hardware/etc.) has changed since i uploaded episode 30 a week ago, and that showed up within an hour...
    many thanks for any advice!
    cheers

well, i never got a reply directly to my question, but i was directed by email to post my problem within itunes... go to the podcast page of my podcast and then select "report a concern"... i always thought this was to report offensive podcasts, but if you click on that button you'll see a pull down list with a bunch of problems... i selected "difficulty downloading" and then explained the problem completely... as i said, i never heard back from anyone, but about 4 days later my podcast episode showed up... and this past wednesday we uploaded the latest episode and it showed up in the iTMS almost immediately... go figure?!
if anyone's interested, the podcast name is Schnauzer Logic and its comedy and talk and music and pop culture (i used to be the host of a morning show)... good for a giggle once a week for a couple of hours.
    cheers!

  • Why can I not buy songs from iTunes Music Store?

Earlier this year I moved from the U.S.A. to Sweden... changing my 'Mac.com' account address while doing so.
Last week, I tried to purchase some songs from the iTunes Music Store with my American MasterCard (a debit card) which is listed with my Swedish address at my U.S. bank. As I had never purchased at the iTunes M.Store before I was instructed to 'review my account'... which I did. It had my present Sweden address and my Mastercard listed as method of payment. Upon submitting the form, it was rejected, saying that my MasterCard was 'invalid for Sweden'! So I then go to the Apple-Sweden Store and purchase an iTunes Music Card which I receive in the mail the following day. Now I follow the Apple advice posted for purchasing music by redeeming an iTunes Music Card without listing a credit card (http://www.apple.com/se/support/itunes/store/giftcard/#GCA)... except there is no selection for NONE as indicated in these instructions.... So once again when I submit the form it is rejected, meaning that this time I have already spent money for the iTunes Music Card that is now worthless to me!
Is there another way I can redeem this card without going through that 'review account' window...?
I don't care to set up another account by setting up another e-mail address just to do this... as I want all of the Apple business to go through my Mac.com account as it should be configured to do so!

O.K. Everything seems to be in order now!
I don't know what happened but this is the results....
After attempting to edit change the information on my iTunesMS account at least 7 times, I posted the above question, logged out of iTunes, closed down all my apps and turned off my computer.
A few hours later, I thought I would give it one more try and when I turned on iTunes, went to the Music Store and then 'reviewed' my account... it had my old American address on it with the country listed as Sweden... I just left it alone, as it didn't have my credit card info listed at all... Curiously, I'm clueless about that (though I did send this same complaint to Apple during the first posting... did that have anything to do with it?) When I clicked the continue button (without changing any info) it prompted me that I was finished setting up my iTunes Music Store account and I was immediately able to download some songs....(using the iTunes Music card--- I have not tried my MasterCard!)
So basically, I did nothing except close iTunes, turn off my computer and later rebooted it and opened iTunes! Strange... does that seem like a fix or what?

  • Cannot connect to iTunes music store on iPad 1

When I try and connect to the music store on my iPad I just get a message "cannot connect to iTunes store". I can however access the apps store. I can also access the music store from my Mac.
I have read a lot of discussion topics on this and it seems that this is a problem experience by many others especially on iPod. However I cannot find comments specifically related to iPad 1 and none of the suggested solutions in the existing discussion threads have worked for me.
    - I have a good wifi connection (this message sent via the connection)
    - There is no antivirus software on my iPad
    - All software is up to date
    - I have tried a reset (holding down home and sleep buttons simultaneously)
I have spent ages trying to sort this out and its driving me nuts  anybody got any thoughts?

    Carolyn
Many thanks for your reply. However, have already seen this discussion and have tried all of the suggested fixes. As noted above my software is up to date and I have a strong wireless network (proven by internet access over the same IPad). I am at a loss to thing what else could be an issue - seems to me that there is a sofware glitch in how the iTunes music store interacts with the iPad.

  • ITunes Music Store Search ERROR?.

Everytime i search for an artist in the search window of iTunes music store i get this error; ???
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I've tried the program repair & running QT stand alone 7.1 & nothing?
Has anyone out there run into this problem?
    Thanks!
    I'm running version 5.0 & never had a problem until 6/3...
Also, the "power search" does the same thing...

There has been very heavy traffic on the store due to the release of iTunes plus. The error should go away once traffic dies down.

  • ITunes Music Store Crashes - Doesn't finish loading - Help?

    Hi all,
For some reason my iTunes Music Store hasn't been able to load up on my Mac Mini with Leopard. It's been months since I tried to access it because I moved (I got a new ISP), and I am just getting this computer working after months of being down. I just re[placed the PRAM battery in ordewr to get the CD Drive working. After crashing a few times and checking the boards, I have tried a few things. I upgraded iTunes & all my Apple Apps with Software Update. No Joy. I downloaded Safari and reinstalled. No luck. I downloaded iTunes and reinstalled. I ran Disk Utility to repair permissions. No luck. The Store gets about 60% of the way and then quits with the message: iTunes has unexpectedly quit.
    Details:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x00000000b1ffbd84
    Crashed Thread: 0
Don't know what else to do at this point.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. So long for now, Tom

    Hi all,
I tried a few things suggested here, but they didn't solve the crashing issue, so I gave up and upgraded to Snow Leopard.
Sometimes things just go south I guess.
    so long for now, TOM

  • Music Store shuts down (Still)

For over a month now, I have not been able to axcess the Itunes music store from this computer (Persario 2100 Window XP) I tunes seems to work fine until I click link for music store / I can see the store loading in the Itunes message window on the progress bar, however as the progess bar reaches the end the entire Itunes program shuts down. I believe I tryed every helpful hint listed in the help files and posted in these discussion, I just purchased a new Ipod for my son and use his disk to install the newest version, however nothing seem to work.
Help Help Help!! this is driving me nuts.
    Presario 2100   Windows XP

Well the USA store is up and running, I just accessed it now at roughly 2:30 am Eastern Time (11:30PM Pacific time).
Theres something blocking you or something not set right on your PC or connection. Just to cover the basics do this....
    1) Goto control panel>add and remove and uninstall iTunes AND quicktime. Then go here and roll down to "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Scan the PC for malware with Ewido http://www.ewido.com
Then disable your antivirus and security programs and goto apple.com to download/install the latest version.
    2) Try disabling programs one at a time and then try accessing the store. Disable your firewall and try, if that doesn't work disable antivirus and try again ect ect...
    3) If you are connecting to the net thru a router or some device, try (If you can) connecting your internet connection directly to the PC instead of thru the router/device
    4) UPDATE, goto Microsote/windows update site and make sure windows is up to date. Goto the PC makers site and manually look for updates to your PC model, Make sure your internet browser is up to date, If your connecting thru a router goto the routers web site and make sure it has the latest firmware updates. If you have a router that came from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) ask them or look on there site for firmware updates for the router

  • When I play my Ipod shuffle 3rd gen there's a moment when I start hearing interference until it stops playing, when I turn it off and on again it starts playing from the first song all over again, and once it sounded like the music was slowing down.

My Ipod shuffle 3rd gen starts playing songs with some kind of interference until it stops playing, when I turn it off and on again it starts playing from the first song all over again, and once it sounded like the music was slowing down.  First I thought it was the earphones, but I exchanged them for newer ones and so far its the same

You may want to do a Restore on the shuffle in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If it's a software or data corruption glitch, the Restore should fix it.  After the Restore, reload or resync your songs, and try it again.  As a test, you may want to initially select a small number of songs to put back on the shuffle.

  • Conecting to iTunes Music Store

I am unable to purchase music from the iTunes Music Store. I am able to preview the music but when I attempt to purchase a song, I am prompted to log in. When I put in my user name and password, it appears to be logging in then gives the following error message: "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. An unknown error occurred (-9812). Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
I have sought the support of my ISP (verizon) and they assure me that the connection is active and I have been able to access other websites. I have also contacted the manufacturer of my router (Linksys) thinking that perhaps I needed to open a port as per the suggestion on your online help files; that did not work either. I have also tried as suggested on another post to power down my PC, router and modem, wait 30 second then reconnect/restart the modem, router and then PC but that did not work either.
Someone please help!!! I am at my wits end. I received an iPod for xmas and have not been able to download a song yet. At this point I am very tempted to return the iPod and wash my hands of everything Apple/Mac.

    Does this help?

  • Itunes music store not available in your country yet.

I just did a clean reinstall of OS 10.3.5, and when I try to access the music store I get
"itunes music store not available in your country yet.
You will be able to browse and listen to previews but wont be able to purchase music. To browse music store, select a country below."
So I select United States and nothing happens.
I am in the US and have an itunes account.
    The itunes version is 4.2.
Also, what is the highest itunes version I can use with 10.3.5?
I am held down to this OS version because of some other software on my mac that won't work with anything higher than 10.3.5.
    thanks
    roger c.

First, the iTunes Store has required iTunes 6 at minimum for quite a while now. So you're going to have to upgrade from iTunes 4.2. If you want to run iTunes 7, you'll need to get to Mac OS X 10.3.9. Otherwise you can download iTunes 6.0.5 here, but you won't be able to purchase movies or (I believe) videos unless you have iTunes 7. There's also no guarantee how long iTunes 6 will work.
Second, you've posted in the iTunes for Windows forum. Normally you'll get the quickest and most accurate responses if you post in the iTunes for Mac forum.
    Regards.

  • ITunes Music Store Canada account creation issues

Hello everyone! I'm hoping someone could help me out with my problems.
I'm trying to setup an iTunes Music Store (Canada) account for my brother. I already have an account of my own and never had any problem with it. However, this time, I can't complete the account creation process. I get to the point where I enter the credit card information and address. I fill in every box, including the Province one: it's a drop-down menu and I select Quebec from it. When I click the Submit (I think it's Submit... it might be Next... I can't remember) button in the lower right corner, instead of going to the next step in the creation process, the page reloads and it tells me that I DID NOT fill in the Province box. There's a big arrow in a red circle pointing to the box. So, I reenter every information INCLUDING the Province field, reclick on the button and, lo and behold! I get the same message: You did not specify the Province (I'm paraphrasing).
I have contacted Apple using their support form, but I got an absolutely useless reply. I think the person didn't read my message because he referred me to a beginner's tutorial on how to setup an account. I clearly explained the situation though, so I was disappointed.
Did anyone ever encounter something similar? What do you suggest I do? Should I recontact Apple and re-explain the situation? Should I re-install iTunes? Will it affect the music libraries on my computer if I re-install it?
For the record, I'm using a new 20" iMac with iTunes 7.0.2 and OS X 10.4.8.
Thank you very much for any help you can provide me.
    ~Marc

Your Dad should also check any credit/debit cards associated with his apple account... just incase anyone has been charging things to his account without him knowing.
