ITunes music won't play on a new computer

Just installed iTunes on my new computer (Win 7 premium 64bit) and while all the music i purchased through the iTunes store shows up none of it will actually play. Any suggestions?

Thanks -- actually I worded the question wrong.  I was trying to find my songs icon and kept reloading Itunes to try to find it.  All I could get was the store.  I finally figured out how to reset the desktop and I got my icon back.  Thanks for your answer.

  • I have an old itunes account and the music won't play on my new account

I have an old itunes account that I downloaded on my computer about 100 songs. I since then have started a new account and now my old music will not play at all and it says that my old itunes account has been locked out by itunes. What gives? I have over $100 worth of music I cannot access on my own computer?!
    PLEASE HELP!!!

I since then have started a new account
Why? Just update the info for your old account and continue to use that.
When you create new accounts, it's highly probable you will run into problems (as you can see).
it says that my old itunes account has been locked out by iTunes.
More likely it says that your iTunes account has been locked for security reasons and that you need to contact the iTunes store to unlock it.

  • ITunes music won't play with burned QT movie on CD

I made a slide show movie on my Powerbook using Quicktime Pro and purchased a song (purchased just for this use) on the iTunes store to add to the movie. Then burned the QT movie to a CD and gave it to friends to commemorate a party that they gave. But the music wouldn't play. A window came up on their PC computer asking them to go to the iTunes store for verification or something like that.
Then I made another movie on my Powerbook using Quicktime Pro and added music to that one that was already on my computer. It wasn't music that I'd bought on iTunes. It was music I had imported to iTunes from a CD that I had purchased. I burned that movie and music to a CD and then tried to play it on a 20" iMac. The music wouldn't play. I didn't have that music installed on that computer but I wouldn't have thought that would be necessary. It should have been burned to the CD.
This is puzzling. I have done this same procedure in the past. I may have done an upgrade to the OS since making movies previously. What changed? How can I get music to play with movies on CDs that are played on other computers than my Powerbook?

    Hi!
The sizes and everything of your music files are normal right? Between 2 and 10 MB or so?
Edit: Copying one of the songs from your laptop back to your desktop works fine on the desktop? That would rule out the following...
This is getting a little bit desperate, but it might help us figure out what the heck is going on with your songs!
Can you install Notepad++ and try to open a malfunctioning song file in it?
Maximize the window and maybe hold Ctrl and scroll down once or twice to bring the font size down. Then take a screenshot of what you see in Notepad++'s window and share that here.

  • How to import itunes music & playlists frm extrnal drive onto new computer?

HI! i have had my itunes library on an external drive for some time because my old laptop didnt have enough memory. i have now purchased a new computer (HP 6700 w/ Vista) with enough memory to hold that library. i think i'd like to import the library to the new computer and leave the external drive and old laptop as back-up. can someone please advise me how to import the library from the external drive onto my new computer in a way that is sure to include all my playlists (im a dj & my playlists are my life!). THANK YOU!!

Ok if you active library file is in the iTubes folder in c:\...My Music, you should have the location of your iTunes Music folder pointing at the folder with you music file on the EHD.
    Look in Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General.
(This just confirms things are as you say).
First you need to be sure all your music files are in the iTunes Music folder that you are using on the EHD. Consolidate if they are not.
I assume that the iTunes Music folder in c:\...My Music\iTunes will be empty if you moved all your files to the EHD.
You need to install iTunes on your new computer, but don't add any new music.
Copy the iTunes folder from your c: drive into a convenient place on your EHD.
Now go to your new PC and, with iTunes closed, drag the iTunes folder out of Music to the desktop.
Now copy the iTunes folder that you just saved on the EHD into Music on the new PC so that it replaces the one you dragged out.
You will probably need to set the permissions on the folder to allow your account full control.
    Vista file folder permissions help

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/05/25/how-to-take-ownership-and-grant-permiss ions-in-windows-vista/
At this point, you could duplicate your previous setup by setting the location of your iTunes Music folder to the EHD, but you said you wanted the music on the laptop.
Delete the empty iTunes Music folder in c:\...Music iTunes and replace it with the iTunes Music folder from the EHD. If this folder is not called iTunes Music, rename it. Also check the permissions are OK.
With any luck you should now be able to start iTunes and have your library intact.

  • Cannot listen to itunes music after relocating it to a new computer, Help .....

I have replaced my computer and have moved my itunes music and playlists to the new computer, but I cannot listen to the music. I received a message that itunes cannot locate the file with the music. How can I find this? During the move I used my external hard drive, put the music and playlists on the hard drive and then retrieved them from the hard drive to the new computer, it looks like alll the playlists and music are there. Also, there is an exclamation point beside the songs. Where does itunes search for the file? Is there a specific place that Itunes looks for the file? I believe that I may have it in 'My Documents' file, should it be in 'My Music' or another file?
I use this music with my ipod to teach fitness classes, so I don't want to lose it all or have to replace it all. I also need to be able to syn this ipod nano to itunes to update any new music.
Since I have purchased most of this music from itunes, is it still accessible, as I have already paid for it once.
Anyone have any suggestions for me to try. Please.

The "missing file" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. The way that you've backed up and restored things might have caused iTunes to expect the files to be in the wrong location or layout.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive. Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library hasn't been restored to the correct place then it might be possbile to move it now you know
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

    Hey Clifton Hill, jr.
I understand that you are having issues tracking down your Apple ID for use with the iTunes Store. Whether you have lost track of the email address you used, or your password, the following resource should help to resolve your issue:

  • Purchased itunes music won't sync from phone to computer

I downloaded a preordered album today onto my iphone 5. The songs will show up under the artist name and album but NOT in (either) purchased playlists. I went to put the new album onto my computer from my iphone and it will not back up. I also tryed to go onto itunes via my computer and get the purchased album from my history but it would not give me an option to download it from the cloud.
Has anyone had this problem and found a solution??

i figured it out never mind.

  • Older itunes purchases will not play on newly authorized computer...

before i got an apple id i was using my aol account for my itues account id.  eventually got an apple id which i've used to make purchases over the last couple of years.  just got a new computer and the songs i purchased with my old aol itunes id will not play on the new computer.  when i try to authorize the song using my current apple id it says my computer is already authorized to play the song.  any ideas?

I meant to mention that I bought a new song from iTunes since getting the new iPod hooked up as a 'test' and it will not play either. I thought possibly the older purchases were associated with the other player...
    Thanks

  • I have iTunes Match, but some of the music I loaded from CDs and I can see in the iTunes store won't play. It recognizes the album but is playing literally the only 3 songs I don't want to listen to.

have iTunes Match, but some of the music I loaded from CDs and I can see in the iTunes store won't play. It recognizes the album but is playing literally the only 3 songs I don't want to listen to.
How do I get to play all of my music that should be stored either on the computer or in the cloud?

    Hi,
Initially your music should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Once match completes its scan, your music will have been matched or uploaded. I suggest that you add iCloud status column to song view. This will tell you what has been matched, uploaded, purchased, inelligible, duplicate or waiting. What is the status of your tracks that are not playing.
If space is not an issue, I suggest that you keep the music on the internal hard drive otherwise you can delete the tracks and play from cloud. In both instances, you should maintain a back up of all your music on a separate hard drive.

  • My music won't play on iTunes

When I try to play a song on iTunes, it won't play. Tt says it's playing but it never plays on past the 0:00 mark. It even does this for music I have recently bought on iTunes and my music works fine on my iPhone but not on iTunes. I haven't had this issue until recently when I updated iTunes. I have never had this issue before.

Here are a few quick tricks that I would try:
    - Restart your mac
    - Go to System Preferrences and check your audio settings
    - If you have a portable, check your headphone jack for obstructions or anything strange
    - Test the audio with some headphones, if those work you may only have a settings issue
    Good luck

  • Itunes progress bar is not moving and music won't play. I also have no audio from my laptop at all. Any ideas? I am running windows 8.

Have had no previous problems with iTunes but for past two weeks my I tunes progress bar is not moving and music won't play.
I also have no audio from my laptop at all. Any ideas? I am running windows 8.

I'm having the same incredibly frustrating problem. I have 50-60 GBs of music and now literally ALL OF A SUDDEN most of my mp3s won't play in iTunes. Of the songs that do play, many of them sound garbled (almost as if you were listening to them underwater). As others have noted, the songs do in fact play properly in other media players (VLC, MPC, WMP, etc).
I feel like I've tried just about everything but I can't seem to fix the problem. Nor have I been able to find any viable solutions after hours of scouring the internet. Here is a list of the steps I've taken so far, in chronological order:
    1. Closed/re-opened iTunes
    2. Re-booted computer
    3. Uninstalled/re-installed iTunes
    4. Tried deleting songs from iTunes library and then re-adding them, but after dropping files into the library they don't show up at all, iTunes refuses to import them
    5. Downgraded from iTunes 8 to iTunes 7
None of these things have helped at all and I am amazed that even after completely uninstalling iTunes 8 and then installing version 7 I'm still experiencing the same problem. And, on top of things, I've found that iTunes 7 is not recognizing the ID3 tags for many of the songs it does import.
My apologies for the length of this post. I just want to be specific and provide as much info as I can so that maybe we can find a solution to this thing.
So, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • My music is not playing in my new iphone4s

i just bought an  iphone 4s and i downloaded purchased music from my library through icloud. when i open my music app in my iphone and play a song, it doesn't play anything. everytime i press play, nothing happens. it shows that it's playing but no sound at all.

I am having the same problem with my new 4s.  It's not all of my music, and not even all of my purchased music, but certain songs purchased from the iTunes store won't play.  In my case, these are songs I purchased a long time ago, so I can't imagine how I could be experiencing an iCloud problem.  I know it has something to do with the 4s because the songs play fine on iTunes, and on my old iPhone 3gs (which I now simply use as an iPod). I'm reluctant to reset my iPhone because I have so much music on it.

  • Music won't play and shuts down. Helppppp

Randomly my ipod music won't play music. When the song is clicked on it goes to the song and album artwork but then doesn't play and flashes back to the playlist screen. Also, it shuts down a lot and I have to restart it to turn it back on. This seems to happen whenever I am using it and set it down instead of just bringing the black screen up where I can press the button and start it I have to restart it which is slow.  Help please!!!!

    Try the following in order:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes on yur computer
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • I reauthorized my computer but my music won't play.

I didn't realize the prior computer--long since traded in towards a new one, the laptop I'm currently using--hadn't been deauthorized.  I did that and then reauthorized current one but my music won't play.  I checked my account and it has been updated and confirms the new laptop is authorized now.  What gives?
