ITunes need to close... ...........

i know that happyendings already has kinda posted this question. but my situation is slightly different. i'm currently running on windows XP and i'm kinda getting what happyendings is getting/has been getting.
but instead of closing 30 mins after opening, mine doesn't even start up AT ALL!! i guess it should be roughly the same prob as happyendings but mine just occurs a lot sooner.
it's extremely irritating cuz i have an entire library waiting to get into my iPod and no way to get it in.
iTunes 6.0.2   Windows XP

I have the same problem. I install a brand new IPOD 30GB and then when I try to open Itunes, it give me a window that Itunes needs to shoot down. It then locks up my IPOD.
I have been working on this for six hours and is very troubling. I have reinstalled, repaired, even did a indian dance.
Anyone know how to solve this?

    Hi johnbpl,
It sounds as if you are having difficulty connecting to the App Store to check for updates for applications on your iPad. If that is the case, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
Can't connect to the iTunes Store - Apple Support
Start with the section Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch then if needed the section Learn more.

    Thanks

do you also get that message if you try to launch itunes prior to plugging in?
or does it only happen while you're transferring material to the PC?
if the latter, what kind of things does it happen with? music, videos, podcasts or something else?

  • Still with Error itunes needs to close

I don't get it. I've installed uninstalled done all sorts of things and the fact is. I need itunes to work! Now my problem is that supposedly a new version of quicktime is installed yet I can't see it or delete it. I don't konw how it would help but I want redownload it.
Other than that, any help with getting my itunes to open would be appreciated.

+"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."+
let's first check to see if this is associated with a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • ITunes needs to close - Sync Outlook contacts or calendar

I installed iTunes 7 after purchasing iPod. Everything works ok but if I select to sync contacts or calendar using Outlook (Outlook2003SP2) a error message appears: "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" - Error signature:
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.0.0.70 ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 35f7ddc9
After closing iTunes I restart it again and some seconds later the same error message appears. I have to deselect the "sync" option and everything returns ok but I could not have my contacts or calendar on iPod.
I saw a FAQ page explaining how can I export the contacts or appointments (as files) but I would like to know why this "sync" option doesn't work before do this "workaroud".
Any ideas that could help me solving this problem?
    Thank you in advance!

This is the best remedy on the web for getting MANY contacts to sync from Outlook to your iPod.
First of all, you need to open iTunes and connect your iPod to make sure that you have enabled your iPod as a storage device. TO do this just look for your iPod in the DEVICES and select it. Summary Tab  Check the box, “Enable disk use.” Then make sure you click, “Apply” in the lower right corner.
In Outlook, go to Contacts and select all the items you want. You can use shift-click and control-click to choose multiple items. Choose Actions > Forward as vCard. This creates a new e-mail message with all the Contacts you selected converted to vCard format. Address and send the e-mail to a trusted friend - like yourself. Although all the vCards are right there for the taking, there's apparently no way to access them all at once except as a received e-mail. Collect your e-mail in Outlook. When you look at the received message, you should see all the vCards as attachments. Select the message that you sent with all the vCards. Choose File > Save Attachments > All Attachments. Note: if you use an e-mail program other than Outlook to collect your mail, it might not have the Save All Attachments feature. In the Save All Attachments dialog that appears, click OK. Next, you'll see a Save All Attachments file list. Navigate to your iPod's contacts folder. (Do NOT go to the folder called “iPod” in your program files. You need to find the name of your iPod in the various drives you have in your computer.) I didn’t name the folder. I just clicked OK and everything worked perfectly. You're done - the contacts have been shipped off to your iPod. Then I performed a sync and now I have every contact listed perfectly.
I modified the directions from http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mizd2969/is_200408/ain7183943
These are the best directions on the web because they avoid the individual vCard sync process.

  • ITunes needs to close when I sync.

So after needing to format my iPod twice in two days, once after resyncing everything back on to it, now the ridiculous program is closing every time that I try to sync it.
No music is appearing on my iPod, and it has been like this for the past two days.
I would rather that this does not happen, so please help.

I have already completely deleted my registry of all iTunes related things, uninstalled and reinstalled and the issue persists.

When I click on my Itunes icon a big box pops up and says Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience. And says tell microsoft about the problem, you know. And I've been trying to access the program for three days and it's doing the same thing, I got a trojan horse right before it started doing it, but I've gotten rid of it and scanned many times, it's gone. When I click on the icon, a message that says "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" It asks if I want to send an error report. I have uninstalled and reinstalled (twice) I do not have Norton or any other anti-virus, apparantly. I have restarted a couple of times. emachines Windows XP 1.80GHz Intel Celeron, 40GB hd

This error could be caused by a number of things. Try it one more time, and if the error comes up write down what kind of error it is (ie. Symantec, Runtime,). Then do a google search for that. You may be able to find a solution elsewhere.

  • "itunes has experienced an error and needs to close"

while trying to import my c.d. collection to itunes, i quite often get the message "itunes has experienced an error and needs to close. do you want to send the error to microsoft?" it usually takes me about 20 minutes to import 1 c.d. to itunes becuase i have to keep re-opening itunes after it closes. i never lose anything i have already imported. sometimes i will get through 5 songs before i get the error message, sometimes i cant get through a single song. whats the deal here??

What if you try importings CDs to your computer (not to iTunes) Is this normally working? If yes the problem is in ITunes and if no the problem is maybe your CD player. If the problem is in iTunes you should try to download the latest version from the Apple pages and then update/reinstall.

  • "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close" -Gapless Playback

I've had this problem for a while now and I'm just plain sick of it!
Every time I start up iTunes it does the "Determining Gapless Playback" thing, but when it gets to certain songs it freezes up and I get an error message that says:
"iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close"
This happenes to a lot of songs (a few dozen)and the only way I can actually access my library is by hitting the 'x'next to "Determining Gapless Playback" before it gets to the songs. However, now I can't even do that because it gets to the song immediately.
I need to know if I can disable the gapless playback or somehow debug this (I have reinstalled iTunes, Quicktime works, I have reloaded my library, done a system restore, and changed users/startup programs... nothing works)
    PLEASE help!
I run XP if that helps.

    Kar,
Check out the steps Roy B posted in this thread. They are long and a bit convoluted, but they seem to have done the trick for many others having this problem.

  • "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close" - can't open iTunes

    Hi guys,
I'm a huge Apple fan so I obviously decided to upgrade to Apple 7.0.1 the day it came out... installed it. Opened it up, but within just a few seconds i got a Windows message saying
"iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close"
I reinstalled it and still have the same problem.
First few days I could atleast keep iTunes open for a few minutes before the message, but now its down to just a few seconds.
I run Windows XP if that helps any.
Please help me fix this problem or tell me how I can put iTunes 6 back on my computer --- I need my music!
    Thanks

After downloading and installing 7.0.1 my iTunes would not open either. Even worse is you can't go back to v6 if you had v7 running--the database is updated.
Luckily I was able to get my iTunes to open again by doing the following:
    Click Start/Run
    Type in "%userprofile%\application data\apple computer"
Right click on the iTunes folder and rename it to iTunes.bak.
    Close the window.
    Click Start/Run again.
    Type in "%userprofile%\local settings\application data\apple computer"
Right click on the iTunes folder and rename it to iTunes.bak.
    Close the window.
Try opening your iTunes again. It may re-ask some general setup questions, but mine opened without the error, and it still had all my music. However, I did have to re-authorize my computer.
I used to never be leary about updating iTunes... guess Apple's software ain't no peach, either.
    Hope this helps someone.
