Itunes needs a random shuffle option

Well the subject says it all! Shuffle seems to play the same songs and no one has an answer in other post.

If you shuffle a playlist, and don't change anything while it is playing, iTunes will not repeat a song until it has played each song once. It only skips songs that are unchecked or that have had the "Skip When Shuffling" option checked.
However, if you stop it and restart from a different point, it creates a new shuffle sequence and may well repeat songs from the first shuffle
If that is not what you are seeing, pls clarify.

There does not appear to ba a facilty for this on the iPad. However there are a number of apps that will allow you to create and play video playlists. Try VP Lite which is free.

Was that iTunes' safe mode as opposed to Windows' safe mode? iTunes safe mode is invoked by holding down CTRL+SHIFT immediately after clicking the icon to launch iTunes and continuing to hold until this message pops up:
Click continue, then close iTunes and reopen. With luck iTunes now opens normally every time.

Try quitting the App Store:
Tap the home button to get to the home screen. Then double tap the home button, and hold your finger over the App Store icon. Tap the red when it appears. Tap the home button again to return to the home screen.
Try resetting:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.

Frequency of Song Playback in iTunes using Shuffle Option

I have approximately 800 songs in iTunes and on my iPod, and I enjoy using the "shuffle" option for all of the music - all genres together. However, there are some songs that I would like to hear more frequently than others during the shuffle. I noticed a "rating" category in my iTunes library. Does this have anything to do with how frequently a song would play during shuffle? For example, if I rated a song a 5, would it play more frequently? If not, does anyone know how to set this up? I think I read about it somewhere, but now I can't figure out how to do it.... maybe it can't be done?

I don't think the rating changes how frequently songs come up in shuffle, but it does then add the highest-rated songs to the "My Top Rated" playlist...

Does iTunes 10.5.2 allow you to control how random shuffle play acts?

I seem to remember a previous version of iTunes that allowed you to adjust the randomness of shuffle-play. There was a slide bar that you could move, and I believe that it was based on the songs you most listened to.
Does the current version still have that function? I can't seem to find it, and my shuffle-play doesn't seem to be as random at the moment. My impression is that I'm hearing more the songs that have a high play count already than not.

I have this problem too, and I want to make random shuffles such that play counts for each song is uniformly distributed. But how come nobody even notice this thread?

"share tab on the side bar ..."
iTunes has not had a sidebar for over a year. You can see one (as iTunes 10 used to show) by doing View > Show Sidebar from iTunes' menu.
But I'm not sure if that is your issue. You do not need a sidebar to do home sharing. Are you running the current iTunes (11.1.3)? Have you turned on sharing in Preferences? Have you done File > Turn on Home Sharing?

IPod software needs to give more shuffle options

Hi,
I'm pretty sure current iPod software can't do this so I think what I'm posting here is an enhancement request. However if you know how I can achieve what I want I will love you forever!
My iPod listening time is split roughly 50/50 between Albums and Playlists. When I listen to an album I want the tracks to play in the proper order but when I choose a playlist I want the songs to be shuffled. Right now I have to manually change Settings... Shuffle every time and it's a real pain.
Apple: could we have more shuffle options such as
Shuffle:
Albums = No
Playlists = Songs

I often need to randomly sort huge collections of images for web sites. This is a pain to use the "user sort" mode. Dragging and dropping is to slow.

I tried to make my onw order of pictures into a slide show,

Where is the random play option? I want to play all my music through random but you can't seem to make that choice in this new itunes. Anybody figure it out?

My iphone 4S will randomly shuffle my playlists regardless of what order I put them in. It also just removes songs at random. What is going on???

My new iphone 4S is not keeping playlists in th order I sync them and will randomly shuffle them no matter how many times i rearrange them. I don't think I have the shuffle setting on, but can't figure out why it shuffles, removes, and adds songs at will. I am a Zumba instructor and need my playlists in a specific order.

I'm having a similar problem with my iPhone 4s. Just loaded all of my play lists onto it and it shuffles the order on some playlists but not others. It is not a matter of shuffle being selected anywhere. In fact when I connect my iPhone to my Mac and look my play lists in iTunes, they appear in the correct order. When I view my playlists on my iPhone, some appear in a random order. The suggestions to turn shuffle off have not helped since nowhere does shuffle appear to be on. And I have the "shake to shuffle" turned off as well. I listen to a lot of continuously mixed music so these randomizations of my playlists are very problematic. I didn't have this problem at all with my iPod Touch. Should I just try deleting the troublesome playlists and reinstalling them?

Managing Shuffle Option, Please Help

I want my Ipod Nano to shuffle only through my top rated songs, which is easy to figure out for party shuffle in Itunes. My problem is my Ipod still seems to grab songs from wherever it wants. I feel like I have to learn to use Itunes again since the new version came out.
How can I make my Ipod shuffle songs only from certain playlists ?

Well, when I goto the 'Top Rated' section of playlists all that does is play my top rated from first to last, How do I get it to shuffle through a particular playlist rather than play from first to last?
The only way my Ipod seems to shuffle is completely random, I want to be able to somehow narrow the shuffle playlist a bit. I have alot of songs/playlists are mood/activity specific, occasionally I just wanna shuffle through a certain playlist or even higher rated songs in general.
Is Party Shuffle different than my independant Ipod shuffle option ? Seems that way.

Shuffle option comes and goes?

The shuffle option seems to come and go, seemingly at random. When I first ran iPhoto '09, when running an "instant slideshow" (selecting an album and clicking play), there was no shuffle option in the settings. Then I created a new "slideshow", went to settings, and the shuffle option was there. Then when I went back to an "instant slideshow", the shuffle option was now available. Then when I went back to the previously created slideshow, the shuffle option was gone! Clearly a bug. BTW, this is version 8.0.1 of iPhoto.
A related annoyance is that, even when shuffle works, it shuffles in the exact same order every time you play the slideshow. Imagine if iTunes worked that way, and played songs in the exact same order every time you restarted!
Anyone else seen this, or have a suggestion or fix? I've also given Apple feedback on this issue.

No one else? At least at seems to be constant now, the shuffle option is always there for the "instant slideshows" (select folder or album and click play), but it doesn't exist for a "slideshow". Maybe that's "normal" behavior? I swear it was the opposite situation when I first used iPhoto '09. I'm certain because I regularly used the shuffle setting on a smart album for randomly displaying pics from my whole library, and that option was gone. Now it seems to be back for good for instant slideshows, but gone for good for regular slideshows.
I've found 2 workarounds for the constant (non-varying/non-random) shuffle order: 1) if the album changes (i.e. add or remove pics), it seems to get reshuffled; and 2) if you randomly select a pic in the album before clicking play, it changes the starting point in the shuffled order, so with enough pics in the album, it at least seems random.
The major remaining annoyance is the long delay when first starting an instant slideshow on a large album (4,000 pics, in this case), and again when you exit the slideshow. iPhoto is taking 100% processor time during the delay. Not too bad on my Mac Pro, but nearly unbearable on my 1.4GHz mini, and that's with the library on a local drive. Using the library on a network drive, at least with this version of iPhoto, is no longer an option (way way too slow). Before this version, it always ran just fine on a network drive. This is progress?

I recently upgraded from itunes 7 to itunes 8 on my windows XP PC. That's when i had issues syncing my 2nd gen shuffle.
When i try to drag songs directly on it, itunes says i can't
I made a playlist and use auto fill. But when I remove it from the dock, it's either not updated, or the new songs are at the bottom of the playlist when they are supposed to be up higher. I end up having to hit auto fill twice to make it sync correctly.

unchecked options: open itunes when ipod is attached, Sync only checked songs, convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC, Enable sound check, Limit MAX volume, enable disk use
All those are NOT checked. Sometimes i enable disk use for seeing the IPOD_Control folder, but either way it still messes up.

This is a well-known issue. Apple changed the internal file names used with iTunes 8, which makes the ordering on 2nd generation Shuffles behave differently. There is no good workaround, apart from moving the files with a hand-crafted AppleScript program.
Apple has been silent on the issue, so nobody knows if we'll ever have a fix for it or not.
