ITunes no longer connects to my iPhone

Hi,
All the sudden when plugging in my phone with USB iTunes will no longer attempt to connect. I have tried 2 different cords and USB ports. Anyone know a quick solution?
Thanks,
Nick

Hi cosis1,
If iTunes on your computer does not detect your iPhone, you can use the appropriate article of these two to troubleshoot, depending on what type of computer you are using -
For a Mac - iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X - Apple Support
For Windows - iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ITunes could not connect to this iPhone. The device is no longer connected

A few days ago, my iPad 3 A1430 screen turned black. Siri was still there but very slow to respond. The following day, the screen display returned (the usual green background colour but a much smaller display and not a single icon present). Siri was back up to speed, could play music, display info but could not respond to calendar enquiries etc. The iPad would switch off but not reboot. I let the battery level drop to zero then re-charged: iPad now working again.
Wanting to back-up my iPad, I ran iTunes version 12.1.0.50 on iMac (Yosemite 10.10.2). I have PCemulator installed and when the iPad connection was made, I received the usual screen prompt for which to connect to Mac or PC. (The problem starts here: - the prompt was flashing on/off). I selected Mac & received the  message “iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. The device is no longer connected”.
Rebooted PC and iPad, connecting iPad offers no device prompt, only the same error message.
Successfully backed up iPhone 6 using iTunes.
Upgraded iPad software to IOS 8.2 and connected again. No effect, same error message.
Looked at various Apple posts but couldn’t find a solution. After several iMac & iPad reboots, eventually managed to back-up my iPad and in the process lost all my iPad music built up over the years on my old PC. Managed to recover these music files from my old PC and load them onto iTunes on my iMac. Tried to sync my iPad but back to error message “iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. The device is no longer connected”.
    Any solution?

I have the same problem. In fact when I plug in my iPad 2 updated to ios 7.0.4 I get that same message and it crashes my entire system - forcing me to reboot.

  • My iPhone is not recognised by iTunes [iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected]

When I plug my iPhone 4 in to my MacBook Pro, it charges but it is not recognised in iTunes.
After about 30 seconds I get the following message:
"iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected."
The device still charges but is not recognised.
I've obviously tried restarting both devices / programs. I'm running the laters versions of iTunes and iOS on my iPhone. I've tried all the steps in the troubleshooting pages, and i've re installed iTunes. Stil no luck.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am having a very similar issue with my iPhone 5.
Yesterday I took it to the Apple Store as the battery was draining rapidly, and had the phone restored from an iCloud backup. Everything but my music was synced, and when I returned home to sync my music, the iPhone is only being recognised by iPhoto and I am having error messages from iTunes that the iPhone is not recognised and is unresponsive. I have tried everything I have found online, including trying to connect my phone to my work computer with similar messages.
    Please help!

  • When i try and open itunes a memo pops up saying "itunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected" my iphone is not plugged into my mac so i dont know why its mentioning an iphone nor why i cant open my itunes library

when i try and open itunes a memo pops up saying "itunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected" my iphone is not plugged into my mac so i dont know why its mentioning an iphone nor why i cant open my itunes library?

Each time you connect your iPhone to iTunes, you need to eject it before closing iTunes by clicking on the little "eject" icon shown in iTunes.  It seems that sometime in the past, you did not do that.
I'm not sure how to undo the previously done damage, but maybe a reboot of your Mac would help.

    iPad 2 7.1.2
    iTunes 11.3 (54)
    iMac 27 in 10.9.4
Follow these steps to resolve your issue for iPads
Troubleshooting time is about 30 minutes - 1 hour
    Step 1
Unplug the usb 2.0 cord from the 27 in iMac and iPad 2 64 GB (or what ever version you have) Power down the iPad
    Step 2
Select your HD (Hard Drive) ( I did  this form my desk top)
Next select the applications folder, Next right click the iTunes icon and select show package contents, select Contents.
    1.     Next select info.plist, right click and select move to trash (A message should appear Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this)(Enter your password) Select ok, (This moves the file to the trash).
    2.     Next select pkginfo, right click and select move to trash. (A message should appear Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this)(Enter your password) Select ok, (This moves the file to the trash).
    3.     Next Select version.plist, right click and select move to trash (A message should appear Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this)(Enter your password) Select ok, (This moves the file to the trash).
    4.     Remove "iTunes" from your dock
    5.     From the Finder, choose Go > Go to folder.
    6. Type the following and then press Return:
/var/db/lockdown
    7. Choose View > as Icons.
    8. The Finder window should display one or more files with long alphanumeric file names.
    9. In the Finder, choose Edit > Select all. Then, choose File > Move to Trash. Enter an administrator password if prompted.
Note: Do not delete the Lockdown folder itself.
Delete only the files contained inside the Lockdown folder.
    Step 3
Follow the below steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. In Finder, click the Go menu and then choose Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    2. Click Go.
    3. Locate the file "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig" and drag it to the Trash. (Do not move the similarly named "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist" file to the Trash.) If you DO NOT HAVE file "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig" I DELETED THE FOLLOWING (com.apple.usb.plist)
    4. In the Finder, locate iTunes in the Applications folder and drag it to the Trash. (This will not remove any of your iTunes media or your iTunes library.) You may be presented with the following message “iTunes” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by OS X.) Do not worry click ok and proceed troubleshooting
    5. Choose Go > Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
/System/Library/Extensions
    6. Click Go.
    7. Locate the file "AppleMobileDevice.kext" and drag it to the Trash.
    8. In Finder, click the Go menu and then choose Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
    9. Click Go.
    10. Locate the folder "MobileDevice.framework" and drag it to the Trash.
    11. In Finder, click the Go menu and then choose Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    12. Click Go.
    Step 4
Goto your hard drive in the finder
    1.     Goto Library
    2.     Goto Launch Daemons
    3.     Throw this in the trash: com.ghughes.wifisync.root.plist and anything with the words iTunes
    4.     Goto Library
    5.     Goto Application Support
    6.     Throw this in the trash: Wi-Fi Sync (it's an entire folder) and anything with iTunes
    Step 5
(Before restart book mark the link command and D). Restart the Mac.
Download iTunes and reinstall it. After the install, connect the 2.0 usb device to the iPad 2 while the unit is still powered off, next connect the 2.0 usb cord to iTunes, power the iPad on. iTunes will read the device and ask to trust device, select continue. Backup the iPad device to the 27 in iMac.
    Step 6
Please Rate if it helped you! After that have a cold hard drink and enjoy the day

  • "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected."

This is the third time in a week I've had iTunes get stuck with a message saying "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected.".
I keep hitting "OK", but the message continues.   Force quitting and then restarting iTunes does nothing.   Force quitting and turning off my iPhone did nothing.   I think I need to shut down my iPhone and then reboot.   That's what I did the other two times.
Is there a permanent fix for this problem?

It's an iTunes 12 bug... Not sure who's responsible for usbmuxd at Apple, but they should be fired! This was extensively discussed and worked out here: itunes 12 will not recognize iphone
All credit to oskapt, who's post detailed the entire issue. The short version is a recent version of usbmuxd has a programming error that leads it to never close any connection. At the same time, it's constantly making new connections too. The end result is this background process actually hits the built-in UNIX limit on open connections by a single process (to prevent bugs like this from ultimately crashing an entire computer), and is blocked by design from functioning after that point. Once usbmuxd fails, iTunes can't see your iOS devices.
The fix is to quit usbmuxd, either via Activity Monitor or Terminal. It will automatically relaunch, and work again until it hits the limit. That thread has several suggestions for automated scripts to run every 24-48 hours to prevent this. Hopefully an OS X or iTunes update will fix this, but it's been known for several months so far without any action on Apple's part. You'd think they'd want to make their flagship products actually "just work" together.
Then again, quality control at Apple has been going downhill for quite some time and is now getting pretty embarrassing. See this (somewhat off-the-cuff and hyperbolic) post by Marco Arment or this (more reasonable) post by Craig Hockenberry for the take of two third-party developers concerned for the drop in Apple's software quality lately.
    Hope this fixes it!

  • IPhone 5 will not connect to brand new MBA/iTunes. Error message is "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. Could not connect to the device."

    Hi!
I've had my iPhone 5 for just over a year now, and I haven't really had any problems since iOS7 was installed. I had a PC, with no connectivity problems between any of my Apple devices. Then FINALLY, I purchased my very first Macbook Air 13". I set it all up, updated all the apps, and made sure it was good to go. My iPhone was really low on battery one day, and I just happened to have my USB for it handy and thought I would just plug it into my computer to charge it. I figured I worry about syncing it later as I hadn't really had time to set it all up with iTunes on the new computer.
MY PHONE WENT CRAZY. It just started vibrating all over the table. Looking at the battery icon, it was flipping between charging and not charging, and occasionally the "do you trust this device" window would pop up on the screen, but it was still going crazy. iTunes opened up and these alerts saying "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. Could not connect to the device." and "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected." All it was doing at this point was using up even more battery. But then the iPhoto app opened by itself on my shiny new Macbook and the vibrating stopped. It was charging and syncing! But not having iPhotos before on a computer weirded me out i hadn't decided exactly what I wanted to do with it, I closed the app. The phone went nuts again. ***. On a different day, I was trying to sync it again, and it worked. But only long enough to back it up on the macbook. W.T.F.
Plugging into any PC is no problem at all. The phone just connects and starts charging.
I've tried just about everything. All of my software is up to date, both on the mac and iphone. The USB cord is fine. I've reset the macbook with it plugged in and not plugged in. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes with the phone plugged in and not plugged in. I've reset all the contents and settings on my iPhone, as well as did a hard reset with it plugged in and not plugged in. My iPad has no problem connecting and it also has iOS7. It's just so weird though, that it starts connecting/disconnecting interchangeably as soon as I plug it into the computer, even when all my apps are closed. All this is leading me to believe that it must be some sort of issue between the devices' communication to each other. But I'm not sure if it's an iPhone, MacBook, or iTunes issue!
    HHHHEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!!!!!

I had this same problem with my new MBP 15", but only with the USB port on the left side. The USB port on the right side worked fine. Perhaps the ports on the left don't have enough signal energy for the iPhone.
Anyway, try using a different USB port, and if that doesn't work, perhaps you could try a powered USB hub.

  • HT4587 my itunes no longer connects to airport express.  I get unknown error -15000

I have been using airplay for months, then out of the blue my itunes no longer connects to the AE.  I can connect and stream music directly from an iphone or touch but not from my laptop.  Please help

Well I uninstalled Comodo and turned on Windows firewall. I re-installed iTunes.
I went into firewall settings and iTunes was checked off (allowed) for both home & public networks. Didn't work. I saw Bonjour on there and just 'home' was checked off, so I checked off 'public' to see if it mattered.
It did work. iTunes connected to the remote speakers....but for some reason, only for a very short period, then I get a network error.
This is freaking unbelievable. It was all working fine till I stupidly updtated to 10. Grrrrrrrrr

  • ITunes could not connect to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000001)

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I don't have the nerves to read through thousands of "I've got the same problem too" replies. I do not care whether anyone has the same problem. So if you don't have any solution do not post! I'm not being rude, I'd just keep this discussion as accessible for other readers as possible. Besides, shouting "me too" doesn't really help anyone. Thank you.
Here's my problem, I sync my iPhone via iTunes 10.5.2, which works fine but after a while it prompts with an error message "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000001)". This error message will not disappear and I have to force shut-down iTunes. It works OK for a while after re-start but the error comes back after a while. It is a very annoying little problem because I was waiting for WIFI syncing for so long and now it doesn't work properly
Any ideas how to remedy this?

  • Hi,  When I load itunes it will connect with my iphone

    Hi,
When I load itunes it will connect with my iphone &function correctly. When I reboot/restart, and open itunes it now will not linkto my iphone(not in the left-hand column). After connecting via USB cable thesystem(Windows 7 Ultimate), will recognise it as an iphone but itunes will notfind/load the iphone. The only solution is to remove itunes and then reload, this works but it’s a long winded and laborious method, during loading ifOutlook is open it requests a closure before competition. Is there a commonpiece of software that may be at fault? As anybody experienced this or is therea solution out in the big world?
As anybody got any suggestions on how to find the problem ifthat is the issue?
