ITunes no longer keeps speakers running on headphone jack

iTunes no longer keeps my external speakers running when connected by audio cable to the headphones jack. After 1:45 min:sec, my Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 speakers power down when connected to my computer playing iTunes.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other sources on my computer. When I play a video or audio file through Safari or another browser, the speakers work fine. When I listen to an audio file by selecting it in the Finder using Apple-Y ("quick-view"), the speakers run continuously until the end of the track without powering down. When I use the speakers configured the same way with other software (such as Skype), they work fine.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other DEVICES. When I plug the speaker cable into the headphone jack of either my iPhone 3Gs or my partner's mp3 player and play audio, the speakers work continuously.
I've looked at trouble-shooting for iTunes and found nothing on the Apple site or the web or in the iTunes preferences to keeping wire external speakers live during iTunes playback. I've tried having the speakers connected to a power source or running on batteries but the problem is the same. I've reset the speaker device with no change. I've reinstalled iTunes, no change. The Apple Store genius bar cleared all caches and restarted, no change. They reinstalled the computer system, but found no change.

Hi Dexterdawg
Can you direct me to the thread as I can not sort out the same problem on my iMac
Thanks

  • "Squelchy" noise from external speakers plugged into headphone jack

I get a strange, warmly, high pitched static continuous "squelchy" noise from my external powered speakers when I have them plugged in via cable to the headphone jack of my iPad (3rd gen). The noise occurs only with the iPad - the noise is not present with other devices, such as my iPhone 4S, older iPhone 3G, or my Samsung Galaxy or Toshiba Thriven (both Android devices). Also, the noise is present only with external speakers - never with headphones. Doesn't happen with Bluetooth audio.
The pitch of the squelchy noise seems to be related to how much load the iPad processor is under, though I can't say for sure. I honestly have no idea why it's making this noise. I thought it might be a ground loop issue which occurred only when I had external powered speakers plugged in while the iPad was also plugged in, but the noise happens when the iPad is running on battery, as well.
Does anyone have any ideas how I might get rid of this noise?

I don't know if this could be your problem, but...
On some systems the BIOS will sometimes disable the on-board audio controller at startup if it doesn't detect anything connected to the inputs or outputs (older HP computers did this to me ).  You usually need to enter the BIOS and permanently enable the On-board Audio by changing the setting from 'Auto Detect' to 'Enabled'.
    Hope that helps.

  • Toshiba L505-ES5018 Speakers work in headphone jack... headphones do not

I started having an issue with sound in my headphones last night. So, I've been brainstorming today, and this is what I've come up with.
First, the sound issue itself... The sound is sometimes muffled, sometimes garbled, and sometimes comes from only one headphone speaker. This is resolved by pulling the headphone jack half the way out.
Second, diagnostic attempts... I tried several pairs of headphones. They all produce some variation of the same issue. However, there does not appear to be an issue with the computer speakers plugged into the same jack (I verified by using the same segment in the same movie to test the sound of each device). No sound issues with the speakers. Also, this is no sound issues with a set of USB headphones.
Third, attempts to resolve the issue... I've been to all the forums I have found through Bing to troubleshoot. I've cleaned the jack to rule out lint being the issue. I've updated the drivers (they were up to date). I've uninstalled and allowed Windows to reinstall the RealTek drivers. And, I've checked to make sure the Network Adapter was disabled. They only thing I haven't done is physically removed the battery and power source from the computer and pressed the on/off button to discharge any remaining charge (freaks me out a lil).
My issue differs from other's description of similar issues, because the speakers work when plugged into the same jack. Any thoughts on how to resolve this? I bought the computer Feb 2010.

I wouldn't rule out the port just because the speakers work. Since all the headphones were having some variation of the issue, it seems plausible to me that there's an issue with the port.

  • T400 speakers not working - headphone jack functional?!?

That happened some weeks ago, no software or hardware changes were made prior to speakers gone mute. The other day however speakers were back from malfunction and operative again 100% - for no apparent reason, but as soon i plugged headphone jack in and out - they were gone again!?!? Is there a catch or something that i'm doing wrong!?!? I've tried: removing and reinstalling sound card drivers (no success), different OS (no success), checked headphone jack for foreign objects (found nothing, it looks ok in comparison to other jack (microphone)). No warranty on this machine (expired). Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance.

  • Audio output through speakers but not headphone jack

I have an HP Envy 15-J178ca. I am unable to play audio from my headphone jack, but audio plays on my speakers. When I plug in my headphones, the speakers stop outputting audio but no audio plays through the headphone output. I have tried multiple headphones which all work on different devices and was unsuccessful at outputting audio. I have updated my audio driver to the latest version using the HP drivers site. The following is a screenshot of the sound devices on my computer.

  • ITunes no longer keep my iPhone in iTunes?! Help!!

In the old days when I plug my iphone in to iTunes and then unplug it, the iPhone still shows in iTunes. It can then sync with my iPhone over the air when I charge it elsewhere in the house.
It no longer does that. When I unplug my iPhone the icon just disappears in iTunes. And of course because of that, I can never wireless sync anymore!?

    Hey apple.crox,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with iTunes Wi-Fi syncing. The following resource may provide a solution:

  • Is there any way to disable external speakers w/front headphone jack?

I do a lot of home recording, and that means I often switch back and forth from external speakers to headphones. However, when I plug my headphones into the front jack on my G4, the sound still plays out the external speakers. This is, obviously, quite bothersome. Is there any way to have my Mac disable the external speakers when I connect my headphones? Thanks!

Searched, found out it isn't possible.

  • No sound from HP G62 laptop and can no longer get sound from speakers or headphone jack . USB sworks

have an HP G62 laptop.  I can no longer receive sound from speakers or from headphone jack.  If I plug speakers into usb - I will get sound.  Any ideas?

I don't think I have anything to offer that you haven't done. In Device Manager, Device status says "working properly" and you've reinstalled this driver.

    Right?
The only other thing I know to do is restore the hard drive to its original factory fresh contents.

  • Headphone Jack Glowing Red, Internal Speakers Not Working...

Hey, I have a 2.0GHz White MacBook (almost a week old), and I just recently came across this problem (this morning, actually). I usually have my MacBook connected to some external speakers through the headphone jack, the internal speakers are pretty terrible. Anyway, last night I left the computer on playing music as I fell asleep, this morning I woke up and the computer must have some how come unplugged from the AC power, as it was dead. I plugged it back in and everything was fine (I mean, it had to charge up, and the battery 'health' in iStat Pro was down to 93%, also not sure what this means... But everything else was fine). Then, I unplugged my external speakers and the jack was glowing red, I believe there's an LED inside. The internal speakers would then not work.
I did a quick Google search and discovered that this problem had been experienced on MacBook Pros. Someone recommended plugging in a set of headphones, I did so and then unplugged them and the internal speakers worked for a moment. I plugged in the external speakers again, and they worked (and work) fine. The problem is with the internals, they don't work, and plugging in my headphones again has not solved the problem, and the light is still on when the jack is not occupied.
    Any ideas?
[edit] As of this writing, they are currently working, after plugging in the headphones again and unplugging them, however, the light still blinks when I do this, and there is a bit of a hesitation between the headphone being unplugged and the internal speakers kicking in... (longer than normal, I know there was always a slight delay, but this is a few seconds of blinking light and no sound).

you can fix this by "cleaning" the audio jack. the computer thinks that a digital output is connected. if you go to sound under system preferences, and it says digital output rather than internal speakers, then this is the problem.
I used a tightly rolled up piece of toilet paper to clean the jack. I twisted it up, stuck it in the jack, and then moved it around for a while. the red light went off and my internal speakers started working. someone else used a toothpick.
also, before i fixed this, i couldn't turn the volume up or down (unless i was using headphones) and the volume level screen that shows up on the screen had a circle with a line thru it...like the no smoking signs, but small and just under the volume bars.

  • Headphone jack no longer working after repair

Recently I had a issue with my macbook pro so I had it repaired at the Apple Store(problem with the display).  They replaced the logicboard(2nd time in 4 months) and the battery.  Now after taking it hope and plugging in my external speakers into the headphone jack I get this weird thump sound.  It happens twice and I'll watch the audio strength at the top right.  Each time it goes from like it's working to a gray color as if it's not or locked.  If I try to play something like music with the jack in my entire screen freezes and I have to restart my computer entirely for it to work.
I'm very confused since I just got my computer back after an entire week and I still have issues.
Is there anyway to fix this or do I need to make another trip to the apple store?
Btw there is no red light in the headphone jack.  The last time I had the logicboard replaced it was a sound problem.

    Hi h,
I would, without hesitation, bring it back to the Apple Store to have a proper repair completed.

  • My sound is coming from my built in speakers instead of through the headphone jack.

I have an Envy 15 1270ca and last night it froze while I was listening to music, forcing me to manually shut it off by holding down the power button. When the computer came back on, my sound was coming out of my built-in speakers instead of my external speakers through the headphone jack. I checked the speakers through my mp3 player, so I know that they are working, so it seems to be the jack which is not working.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • HT1338 How do I install a driver for the speakers I have connected to the headphone jack?

  • Headphone jack, speakers went dead, analog mic jack dead, HDMI sound ok

     HP ENVY dv7-7270ca
After about a year the device has lost all sound from internal speakers;  the test meter in the 'Playback Devices' shows everything ok with the IDT Speakers, but the Headphone jack shows unplugged when headphones are indeed plugged in.  'Recording devices' shows Internal Microphone Array active and ok, Exernal Mic (IDT CODEC) shows unavailable, with an analog mik plugged into the jack.
Followed the procedures of uninstalling sound devices and drivers, removing batttery and holding power for 30 seconds; reloading device drivers specified in these forums, to no avail.
Did a data backup and reloaded Windows fresh from the factory image.  Went in smooth.  Still no sound or analog mike, or internal mikes for that matter.
I've got a client ready to lynch me because I convinced him to buy this thing.
    Any ideas?

  • Plugging speakers into headphone jack on iMac

I tried to plug in audio engine a5+ speakers into the headphone jack of my iMac and it doesn't work.  The speakers work with my iPhone but not iMac.  Headphones work with the iMac, so I know the problem is not that.  The sound output switches automatically from headphones (when they are plugged in) to digital out when the speakers are plugged in, but no sound.  Do I need to buy a dac?

To try and clear this all up.
Basically the system should not be reporting that the output connection is digital in this case. The speakers in question use analog audio in so unless you have digital audio from the Mac going to a converter to convert the signal to analog for the seekers what you are seeing is wrong.
The most likely cause of the problem is the cable you are trying to use. Is it the cable that came the speakers? Is it the same cable that worked on the iPhone?
If so you could have a bad audio out connector on the Mac even though it is working with the headphones. The easiest thing to do is to try a different cable. If you still have the same problem post back.
    good luck
