ITunes no longer recognising any devices

Hi,
Decided to try and update to iOS 7 today so plugged my iPhone 5 into my Windows 8 laptop to back it up before installing, but was told I can't without updating iTunes first.  Updated iTunes successfully but now it doesn't recognise either my iPhone or my iPad, although Windows recognises both.  I have tried:
- turning the iPhone/iPad on and off
- turning my laptop on and off
- uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
- using different USB cables
- stopping the iPod Service and restarting it
- deleting the temp folder and restarting
I've not installed anything else today, so how it could go from recognising my iPhone and then not within the space of 5 minutes is beyond me.
Anyone have any ideas?

I've now solved the issue - had to fully uninstall all of iTunes and all the associated components as per the following article:

  • Put latest Itunes system on twice and itunes no longer recognises my ipad or ipod. any ideas?

Put latest Itunes system on my computer (Windows XP latest upgrade before windows stopped supporting) two times now but itunes no longer recognises my ipad or ipod. Will recognise one Ipod touch but nothing else. Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion. The Ipad 2 is, so is the ipad 1 (can only go to OS5 as you know) The Ipod touch is but the ipod nano I cannot check as the system will not recognise it to use itunes to check the latest update. The computer is recognising the units in the Explorer area, it is just Itunes will not.

Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the computer, not plugged into a hub.
If that doesn't do it, try running through this Apple doc -> iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • My itunes won't recognise any of the music that is already stored on my computer or let me sync anything to my new ipod nano!! any ideas??

I recently bought a new ipod nano and when i got it home and connected it to my computer I was told my version of i-tunes was not compatable and I had to un-install it and then download it again.  After I did this 4 times i eventually managed to get itunes to open on my computer and recognise my new ipod.  However after all that hassle my version of itunes now wont recognise any of the music that has already been downloaded onto my computers music files.  I have tried copying the music across and also using the add music to the itunes library command and nothing seems to work!  I really like the ipod but if i had known that itunes was this difficult to work i would have picked a different type of music player!  since i have bought the ipod ive heard nothing but bad things about how difficult and complicated itunes is to work so if anyone has any ideas for how i can fix this problem thatd be great! Thanks

You need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

I just updated an iPhone 4 from iOS 7 to iOS 7.1 and my computer/iTunes no longer recognizes the device; what gives? How do I get iTunes to show the device?

With iOS 7, the "call Decline" button is only available when the phone is awake. To decline a call when the phone is asleep, simply tap the On/Off button.
