ITunes no longer recognizes my mp3 player, iTunes no longer recognizes my mp3 player

I have used iTunes to purchase and download music to my RCA MP3 player, but now it doesn't recognize it.  Can anyone help?

Officially, iTunes does not sync any non-Apple player.  Sometimes they will work, but sooner or later, a release comes out that causes it to stop working.
Follow the instructions that came with your player.

The player mounts on the desktop, but iTunes doesn't display it in the source list.
    What gives?
Apple claims iTunes has built-in support for this mp3 player, and I've used them successfully in the past (with v's 4 and 5 of iTunes). Now I have to manually load it in the Finder.
    Booo iTunes, booo.

Installed latest itunes update and computer tried to burn a playlist to CD and realized computer no longer recognizes my CD/DVD drive. After doing some data mining, found out from community this is an long standing APPLE problem- which doesn't get much tech support in terms of fixes. I have an HPPavillion DV6 64 bit, Windows 7 OS . After reading an earlier complaint from 2009 in the support community,  I ran diagnostics from ITunes which gave the following result. Can someone please help? • How can I get my itunes purchases to play on any mp3 player?

I can't get my itunes purchases to play on my other mp3 players.  I don't want to download these programs people suggest on the internet.
And really, I shouldn't have to. If I've already paid for the music, why can't I put it on the device I choose?  There must be a way. Any help? BTW, I'm using Windows Vista, (yuk)

You can put the music on any device you choose, as long as the device can play the format. Purchases from the iTunes Store are in industry-standard AAC format. If you want to use them on a player that can only handle MP3, you need to convert the tracks. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550

  • ITunes 7.3 won't recognize some mp3 files

I'm using iTunes 7.3 on a dual-G5 with Mac OS X 10.4.10. After upgrading, I noticed that some tracks were missing from my iTunes Library, even though they are in the iTunes Music folder. When I tried to reimport these files (by dragging them from the Finder the iTunes Library), nothing happened.
Special notes: My iTunes Music folder is not in Users/Me/Music; it's on a second local hard drive. Also, I'm not entirely certain that this problem started after upgrading to iTunes 7.3; it could have happened under an earlier version and I just didn't notice.
Investigating a little bit further, I discovered that the problematic files were all MP3 format, at least as far as I can tell. I checked them out in Media Rage (trial download) and found that their ID3 tags were empty. Now, let me point out that these were files that I ripped myself from CD, probably several years ago since I have used AAC for my more recent rips. I do know that these files and their ID3 tags worked fine and within the last year or so, which means that somewhere along the line iTunes destroyed the ID3 tags and stopped recognizing these files.
I confirmed that these files can play properly in QuickTime player. I also tried adding the ID3 tags back in using Media Rage (and ID3 v2.3.0), but iTunes still will not recognize them.
I also tried completely reinstalling iTunes, by deleting Applications/iTunes, Users/Me/Music/iTunes, and all the Users/Me/Library/Preferences plists associated with iTunes, and then downloading iTunes from www.apple.com, but this didn't solve the problem either.
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    I have the same problem.
I've had these songs in itunes & on my ipod before for awhile & they played just fine. I upgraded itunes & everything seemed fine, until I auto synced my ipod & I get this message saying that five files aren't copied to the ipod because the ipod won't play them. Then I try to play them in itunes & itunes won't play them, even though they show up in the library & are MP3s. Quicktime player & VLC both play these files still...
I have no idea what could cause the error for these random 5 songs, which are not related to each other & come off the same CDs as other songs which are still able to be played...

  • ITunes won't recognize MP3s ripped from CD

Before iTunes was available for Windows, I was using MusicMatch to rip MP3s from Audio CDs....iTunes won't recognize those files...they are not protected...i have consolidated my library and even physically moved the files into the iTunes Music folder...I have deleted my .iml file and reloaded both iTunes and my 'library'...same result...other programs such as Media Player recognize and play these specific files, so I am at a total loss..Windows Explorer tells me that these files will open with iTunes, but when I select 'Open With..', iTunes will start but the song never plays and isn't added to my library...I spent hours and hours and hours ripping these CDs...is there a setting or preference that I am missing? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The headers on the problem tracks may be nonstandard or corrupted (this can happen with some MP3 conversion or import utilities). If you search the web for "mp3 repair" you'll find a number of repair tools. Here's one I've seen mentioned:
    VBRfix.
I haven't tried any of the versions of this, so I can't attest to how well (or indeed if) they work.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using plain old mp3 player with iTunes on Mac

    Hi all,
I want to use a plain, old USB MP3 player (mass storage-type) with iTunes on my Mac (OS X 10.4.x). I asked this question over on the Windows iTunes forum at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1264196&tstart=0
and wondered if there's anything that'll work on the Mac.
In Windows, I basically have resorted to drag-n-drop from the iTunes window to a Windows Explorer window showing the USB MP3 player as a removable drive, or to using iTunes Agent (http://ita.sourceforge.net), which is a Windows-only solution.
What's the solution on Mac OS X?
    Thanks,
    Matthew

I think a universal "none" is probably a bit presumptuous. If you're able to get music onto the player in Windows via drag and drop, I see no reason why that won't work on the Mac as well, provided that your Mac can recognize the drive. I would imagine it can, as I've never come across a PC formatted drive that my Mac didn't recognize.
There is also a freeware application called XNJB that apparently works as an interface between a Mac and a Creative MP3 player. I haven't used either, so can't vouch for them at all.
Just that like I said, a universal "none" is probably a bit presumptuous.

  • How to make a CD of MP3 songs to play on a Bluray player without ITunes creating separate folders for each album

I'm trying to make a CD full of MP3 files that I can play on my Bluray player for a long party, but when I burned the disc using ITunes, it created separate folders for each source album, and it won't play.  You have to open each individual album to get the songs to play.
Can you make a cd that has all of the songs in one folder?

  • Can't move MP3's from Real Player into ITunes

i'm not sure how it has happened but my 'Real Player' music files & MP3's no longer automatically launch into I-Tunes. It looks as though ITunes is no longer my default player but when i try to rectify this i get a message saying "An error occurred while updating the default player for audio. You do not have enough access priveliges for this operation" !!! (This comes as a surprise as it is my computer!!!).
I don't remember changing anything other than instaling LastFM recently (this has now been uninstalled).
Any ideas what i can to make Itunes my default player again?
    thanks

LastFM probably changed the settings on you. As is often the case, uninstalling doesn't remove/reset everything associated with the file.
Have you tried changing the association manually or just with iTunes?

  • ITunes - mp3 player for kids - iPod

I have iTunes for my mac and my own iPod. I want to get my kids an inexpensive mp3 player (non-apple) for Xmas. Does this work? Can I load their players with their songs from my library?

Yes, but it won't be as easy as synching with an i-device. I have a Sansa player as well as a RCA MP3 player. With both devices you can simply copy mp3 files to them. As long as the mp3s are tagged correctly you can arrange by artist, album etc amnd play that way. If you want playlists things get a bit tricky. Neither player has software that supports OSX so playlists on the Sansa either have to be created by hand or using a third party script.
If your computer can run Windows you can use the software that way, otherwise there is a moderate degree of inconvenience, especially if playlists are important.

  • Itunes with a sony mp3 player

I just bought my brother a Sony MP3 player for Christmas.  I would like to put music on it for him before giving it to him but I have a Mac.  Is there a way I can do that with Itunes or not?  How can i get my Mac to recognize the Sony MP3 plater, is there an App?

I have tried this with a SanDisk mp3 player, so I am not sure if it would work with a Sony - don't see why not..
Open your iTunes, build a playlist of songs you want to put in the Walkman.
Connect the Walkman and when the icon mounts on the desktop, open the Finder window to it - if it has a .mp3 folder inside, ('cos the sony devices have multiple folders in some instances), open that. Drag and drop the playlist of songs - (the list not the sidebar icon for it) into the .mp3 folder, and it should copy the files right in. iTunes itself will not likely 'see' the Walkman, but the Finder does, and will treat it like a new storage volume - which it is. You just build the iTunes playlists to tell the Finder what to copy.

  • Syncing mp3 player with iTunes...help

I have a Trio MP3 player (yes, I know, that is most of the problem, but bear with me)
iTunes will not allow me to copy song files and convert them to MP3's so I can put them onto the MP3 player. (heaven help me, I miss my iPod) The MP3 player will only play MP3's, not mp4's nor aac files.
I have tried this by placing the songs I want into a new play list - selecting all files in new playlist - go to advanced - select convert selection to MP3...the mac says that it is converting the requested files to MP3 format. Yet, it only turned them into AAC files. I have changed the preferences of importing and burning to MP3 (from AAC), but to no avail. I repeat the steps above and get the same result.
I have also moved the songs into a file on the desktop, but connot convert them from there.
iTunes also will not let me change the AAC files I purchased from iTunes into MP3's...they are "protected".
    Help.
I wasn't able to buy another iPod after ours was stolen, so got this instead. All I want to do is be able to take the songs I legally purchased from iTunes and the ones I importeed from my own legally purchase cd's and put them on this MP3 player. ( I cannot reimport the cd music, those were stolen along with the iPod)
    Help!

Have you tried updating your iTunes Library to iTunes Plus. This will enable you to convert those purchases, as iTunes Plus songs and music videos are DRM-free. You can update your library for 30¢ a song, as long as your purchases are available in the new format.
    Check it out:

  • Viewing memory on my mp3 player with iTunes 8

I use a Rio mp3 player and prior to the iTunes 8 install iTunes would show # of songs, total time and MB remaining which would easily allow me to find that last song, based on size, to squeeze on to the player and completely fill the memory. Now iTunes no longer shows MB remaining just MB total used. Is there a way to get the remaining memory to show so I don't have to break out a calculator or use trial and error to find a song that will fill that last bit of memory?

In the iTunes preferences, find the Importing tab and change it to Import as MP3 instead of as AAC (AAC is stored in an M4A file).
Then import your CD. This will produce MP3's which you can then put on an MP3 player.

Really? The new iPod Video? What was changed out of curiosity?
Oh, get ready for my bitter rant:
The old iPod had a little port/dock/whatever next to the headphone jack. This allowed a wired remote, other controls (like the cool wireless remote, or the casette player adapter that allowed you to use your car's casette controls to control the iPod), and other cool add-ons while SIMULTANEOUSLY charging the iPod through the bottom dock.
They got rid of that top port/dock/whatever, "achieving" three things:
) most current accessories on the market are defunct
    2) a corded remote appears impossible
    3) companies making replacement accessories at a fast enough clip to be on the market already are often neglecting to make a pass-thru for the charger, so you have to choose: "dri've safely, or charge my iPod?"
Availability of accessories was a big thing chaining me to Apple, and the fact that they're so willing to mess with their customers' ability to use accessories really disgusted me.
Now, with the Zen, though I lose the multitude of accessories available, I get to experiment with subscription services. But, I'm missing some of iPod's communication with iTunes (ratings, last played info, and the ability to sync *advanced* playlists), so I don't know how long I'll be able to stay away from Apple. (Boy, I sound like an abused wife trying to divorce an inconsiderate jerk.)
