ITunes no longer recognizing iPod

Following a total re-install of MacBook operating system, including an update of iTunes to 10.4, iPod touch was no longer recognized. iTunes 10.3.1 was restored, but now it also is not recognized. Another oddity is that I can not delete podcasts from Library.

Have you tried resetting your iPod?
Press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together until the Apple logo appears on your iPod's screen.
Do this several times, and see if there is any difference.
Try putting your iPod into Disk mode, and connecting it to your computer. For more info, see this: Putting your iPod into disk mode

  • IPod files keep getting erased + iTunes no longer detecting iPod

For the fourth time now I have plugged my ipod into my pc only to have all the files wiped from its harddrive. This was not such a big deal as I could just resync all the files, except now iTunes no longer recognizes my ipod (windows does, however).
    How can I fix this?

Yes, I've gone through all those steps.
Just to be clear, have you tried reassigning the iPod's drive letter as explained in the "related document": Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear ?

  • IPod classic album artwork showing in iTunes no longer in Ipod

    Hi everyone,
I have an iPod classic and until today, my album artwork always would show in iTunes and iPod Classic.  The artwork is now no longer showing in my iPod and the "get info" tab is not available for me in iTunes.
I tried ticking off the artwork in my iPod, syncing, then ticking again the artwork and albums, then syncing again and still to no avail.  Please help, I would be grateful if someone could give me a solution

Restoring is the function in iTunes that wipes a device, reloads the firmware and then lets you put back content. Yes, it deletes the media from the device but that should all be in your library, which in turn should be backed up. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device and Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy if it isn't.

  • My nano model synced on older itunes  no longer recognized on my  itunes, my nano model synced on older itunes  no longer recognized on my  itunes

my nano is not recognized anymore to sync last two itunes purchased after contacting apple and going to apple store.Heip

With the latest iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, the iPod should appear under DEVICES.  Does it appear there?
If it does, the iPod is recognized.  Select it there.  The is a row of buttons near the top of the window, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to your iPod, if you are using automatic syncing to load the iPod.  Make sure your two new purchases are included in your selection on the Music screen.  If you are using the manual method to load the iPod, do not set up the Music screen; just drag the new songs to the iPod in iTunes.
If the iPod does not appear in the sidebar, please post back.

  • IPod shows no music, iTunes no longer reads iPod

I have a 4th generation 40gig iPod (non-colour). Yesterday, I plugged it into my MacBookPro, it loaded my iTunes, and I manually added a couple of songs and made a new iPod playlist. I then spent some time going through my old iPod playlists and listened to a bunch of music directly from my iPod. When I was done, I hit the eject button in iTunes, waited for the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" message to disappear, and disconnected my iPod. When I did so, I found that it was completely devoid of music. I tried plugging it back into my computer, and I was met with a message telling me that iTunes cannot read my iPod, and a suggestion to restore my iPod from the summary window.
My music is not all in one place, after switching computers a few times, so I'd prefer to avoid restoring, if at all possible. Not only that, but my playlists are really valuable to me. I want to get those back. I have accessed my iPod on my desktop and it shows me that I have 10 gigs of space left, plus I accessed the hidden folders under "iPod_controls" that shows a bunch of .mp3 files, so I know that SOMETHING is still there. I tried using Stellar Phoenix iPod Recovery, but I could only run it in the setting that scanned for file types, and it only recovered about 1/5th of my music (I don't think it recovered any playlist files, either). I have seen the article about manually copying files from the iPod onto a hard drive, but it seems to only cover the actual music files. Is there any way I can manually copy the library-specific files so that I can retain my playlists, at the very least?

And I clearly have posted this in the wrong section. Sorry. I always think of my iPod as a "classic" and I forget that it's actually not the same thing as an older iPod. I'm reposting this in the general iPod board.

  • ITunes no longer recognizing my iPods

Yesterday I began receiving messages from iTunes stating it cannot recognize the iPhone I am connecting to iTunes. Problem is I am not connecting an iPhone -  am connecting my iPod Touch. The iTunes version is 11.4 and the iPod OS is 6.1.6.
Does this newest update assume everything we connect will be an iPhone?
Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks so much for this info. I had done all of these step except trying a different USB port. I connected to the one open port (directly connecting to the iMac) and it worked just fine. I also connected through the USP port on my keyboard and that worked as well. I have to believe my USB hub might be slowly losing function in that I had no troubles until recently. The iPod would not get recognized and I discovered it was not charging either.
Best to one and all for reading my post. Thanks to Limnos for the excellent tip!

  • I lost my apps after changing my operating system. iTunes no longer recognized my iPod Touch. Will I ever get my apps back or be able to sync ANYTHING ever again?

When we went from Vista to Windows 7 and tried to sync the iPod Touch - I lost my apps. Can these be recovered somehow?

Follow these instructions in the link..It worked for me as I used the same account to log in and to download apps.If you had purchased apps earlier, your purchase history willbe available in account history. So there is nothing to worry about. You'll not have to pay for ur apps again if you have bought it earlier. Plus, you'll have to authorize your pc if itunes does not recognize ur device. Go to 'store->authorize this pc' in itunes.

  • Itunes & Computer not recognizing Ipod

Since we purchased them in December, my wife and I both have both been using our iPod 2nd generation Nanos(2 GB)with our laptop. Suddenly today her iPod is is no longer being recognized by ITunes and the computer.
Her iPod doesnt show up in "My Computer" or the Device Manager. Since it doesnt show up in ITunes at all, I can't force a sync. My iPod is still recognized, so it is not a problem with the USB cable or the USB port.
How can I get ITunes and our computer to recognize her Ipod again-? Is there any other way besides resetting it-?
    Thanks~~

    Try looking into these articles:
iPod doesn’t show up in My Computer or in iTunes
iPod not recognized and Windows Device Mnager is empty
Also, it's possible that this is being caused by drive letter confusion. If the above articles don't seem to help, you might want to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the steps here:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
Then, after you've done that, disconnect your iPod, and reconnect your wife's iPod to the computer, and see if it is recognized.

  • 11.1.4.62 itunes update not recognizing ipod touch

Please Help.  Did the update to Windows 8.1 yesterday and now iTunes does not recognize my iPod(s) etc.  I looked in Windows and device shows up but now in iTunes.  I downloaded the new iTunes and reinstalled (Repair) and that did not help.  Anyone have any suggestions at all?

See section 5 of TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows.
If that doesn't help it may pay to tear down and reinstall iTunes in the following manner...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • ITunes 12 not recognizing iPod classic

I was having this problem and saw a LOT of discussion about it involving things like putting the iPod in disk mode, bad cables etc etc.  So I then tried hooking my iPhone up and it worked fine but had a lot of storage on it.  So I spent some time with a Map Ap cleaning it all up.  I disconnected it correctly from iTunes and then plugged my iPod back in.  Miraculously iTunes recognized it and synched it just fine.  I then disconnected it and waited a bit and hooked it up again and it STILL worked!!  A Miracle.  Please put this in all of the discussions on this topic because there is a lot of talk about this both at this site and on the Internet.

First off, you are right, it's a 32 gb I believe.
After several attempts and iTunes freezing up, I decided to switch out my sync cable to see if that would fix the problem.  It did!
So problem solved, I just switched out syncing cable and it worked fine.  Go figure.
    Thanks.

  • ITunes 9 Not Recognizing iPod

So i just upgraded to iTunes 9... very interesting and different... cool setup
i attach my iPod (classic, 80gig), and it comes up as connected, and it shows up on my desktop, but it does not appear in iTunes... i can disconnect from the computer no problem, but i get nothing in iTunes... i've tried twice and i still have nothing...
Anyone else having similar problems/ know how to fix this?

Somewhat comforting to know others are in the same boat, although frustrating. I have spent countless hours trying to get my ipod Classic 80 gb back in order. It indicates that I need to restore it. Problems include my Macbook will not boot if iPod connected. It locks at the grey screen. This can be remedied if I unplug iPod and reconnect at the blue screen. The system does not recognize my iPod nor does iTunes most of the time. If I reboot as per above it will usually connect and show in iTunes. Itunes then request that I restore which fails with an error message 1430. I have tried it with both my Mac and Parallels Windows XP. No difference. fails everytime. I have tried reformatting on both systems but this fails with an input/output error. I have tried all of Apple's suggestions at least twice. Disconnected external USB drive, reinstalled a new copy of iTunes 9, unplug and replug in computer, reboots etc, etc, etc to no avail. At this time I have an expensive paper weight. My ipod has never had a single issue until iTunes 9. I am currently on the road and will be trying the same thing with my home iMac when I return tomorrow. May even revert to previous iTunes on back up and give it a try. Completely frustrated. I have long supported Apple and have had nothing but good things to say. This will leave me sour for some time to come. Going digital with my music has caused me much pain starting with my PC and I am nearing the end of my rope. If Apple's attempt to shut out the Pre has resulted in this mess I have to wonder if I will continue to support portable media until they are more reliable and user friendly. Too afraid to synch my Nano and iTouch.

  • ITunes no longer shows iPod's playlists

I bring my iPod to work with me all the time, and just leave the "manage music manually" (or whatever that button says) ticked so that I can browse and control my music.
There is a little arrow beside the iPod icon that I can click and it shows me all the playlists. Now the arrow is gone. I've reconnected, checked for updates, rebooted, run a file system check (which did mention that there was no kernel attached or something like that for the usb ipod driver, but kept going and reported "appears to be ok") and repaired permissions. iTunes has NOT been updated since sometime last week. It was working fine when I left Friday.
I can manage my iPod (which I don't want to do) with the iTunes at work but I can no longer play my music because I can't find a way to view any list of songs. Help, please??? I need my tunes or I'll lose my sanity to the boredom.
    Thanks,
    Brooke

Can someone please at least tell me if this is an upgrade 'feature' of iTunes 7.3? If it isn't then this machine has issues. My laptop has not been upgraded and it works with the iPod fine (even though it is not the machine it syncs with). I'm afraid to upgrade because I need my tunes at work, really I do...

  • ITunes no longer recognize iPod or iPad, won't burn cds.

I've recently updated iTunes and it no longer recognises either my iPod or iPad mini. It also generates the "Registry settings used for importing and burning cds are missing etc" message on opening the program.
    So far I've tried:
    - Re-installing iTunes several times
    - Stopping and restarting the Apple mobile device service
    - Following the steps in the "iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes" troubleshooting guide, going into the registry key and adding in the GEARAspiWDM iTunes filter device.
    - And reinstalling iTunes a couple more times
This doesn't seem to have had any effect - what's the next step I should take? I'm using Windows 8.

eta - I've also been following the steps from here but I've been unable to empty the Temp directory, even with no apps runnings, and attemping to verify the Apple Mobile Device USB driver is installed failed - the driver specified in the fix came up with an error that it wasn't compatible with my version of Windows, and there is no drivers folder in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\.

  • ITunes no longer recognizes iPod mini

Things with my ipod mini have been going downhill lately. Along with reduced memory (down from 4G to 3.77G last time I checked) and a weaker battery life, then it had when I first bought it. Now for the first time, the ipod is NOT SHOWING UP IN iTUNES! I realise the thing is getting old (almost 2 years) but I'd really rather not replace it yet, until it totally craps out on me and stops working (is that time coming soon?).
When the device was new and I connected it to my PC via the usb port, iTunes would open and the mini would be displayed on the left hand menu. Now it isn't showing up at all, I've given it some time, and it still isn't present. The mini beeped a few times when I first connected it, and the logo showed the cross circe with the "do not disconnect" logo. and then it went to the battery filling, only the graphic does not show the battery filling with the logo "charging" as it used to but instead the battery is 1/4 full and there is no movement in the graphic. Every once in a while it flashes back to the "do not disconnect" and beeps before returning to the battery graphic.
The iPod is of no use to me if I can't update music on it, unless I want to listen to the same songs over and over, but I'd really like to be able to update them, that's what I bought it for. Last time I charged it via the usb port on the computer it had difficulty (it did show up though) and I thought it had to do with my music library finally exceeding the mini's limits. The mini wouldn't charge and instead kept trying to update the libray of music, when it was too much for it to handle. I managed to go around the obstacle by deleting music off of it and dragging new music from my library onto the mini's icon in the menu (then it was in the mini's music.
After that incident I haven't had a need to update music on the mini and I have charged it using outside ports, which have work normally with the mini behaving like it used to and charging completely.
I'm hope my post is understandable, I'm not a very technical person, so my language might be amatuerish. I really would like to enjoy my mini again though so any help is appriciated.
    Thanks, Ashley

Update: I disconnected the mini for a while and just now tried re-connecting it. This time the ipod showed up in the menu after a minute or two. It still doesn't want to charge through the usb, but I can continue to use the wall port for that if I have to. Good news is I can now update my songs again =)
