ITunes no longer runs

Hi,
Really stumped (not saying much ). I cannot get itunes to open - when I try I get a box stating 'itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close . . .' with the following details cited in the report to microsoft:
Error signature
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.3.0.54 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000f0053
Files included: c:\docume~1\DR4091~1.ehr\locals~1\temp\da62_appcompat.txt
I have tried restarting but each time I get the above error with a different prefix on the '_appcompat.txt' file. Have also tried the following: erasing and re-installing iTunes with the windows install cleaner, erasing the temp file that these appcompat.txt files are in, and renaming the apple software update file (saw it in another post). Nothing has worked so far. Any suggestions would be helpful. I just downloaded 2 albums 2 days ago and can't access them. About ready to re-install windows to see if that works. Thanks . . .
Dell XPS 600   Windows XP

xxx_appcompat.txt is simply a reporting file used when uploading error reports to Microsoft. You've seen the message asking you if you would like to "report this error to Microsoft"? Appcompat.txt is a file that is uploaded if you say yes.
The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, make sure that any antivirus/antispyware application you have is set to allow iTunes to operate. Some antivirus/antispyware has been known to shut down iTunes.
If that still doesn't help, take a look at iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch failures
If that still doesn't work, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:
Bugie: Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime.
Hope this helps.

  • ITunes no longer runs since buying Match. Within ten seconds of opening, it crashes, everytime. Firewall off, latest version of iTunes reinstalled, Windows updates/etc. on, no other software running at the same time. Error-report just says reinstall.

I can no longer use iTunes whatsoever.
I'm hoping to get a refund for the $25 wasted on match if my PC isn't compatible. But how the **** do I get iTunes as a whole to stop crashing?
I'm on Windows 7 with AMD C-50 processor and 2GB RAM, 250GB hard disc.
Never had an issue with Apple products before today.
Windows error reporting claims that "an update to iTunes addresses the issue", but not only did I have 10.5.3 already, I went ahead and reinstalled it, too, and the 64bit version just for the **** of it in case that'd make difference. No luck.
I mean, surely, the fact that this is only happening to me means it is a problem with my system. But I don't suppose its the usual stuff that way, way inexperienced computer users end up on these forums about. No viruses (are there PC viruses that only affect iTunes match? sounds far fetched.) No firewall issues. Not running outdated software. I imagine its my CPU, my hardware, thats just not compatible with Match.
Anyways. The crash occurs about 20% into the progress bar of gathering info about your library for match. When restarting, it asks to log off and log back in to the itunes store. A few times I was able to do that, by getting to the little X and cutting off match before it could crash (still logging out and logging back in made no difference), but now the speed at which it gets to the 20% and crashes is so fast I can't beat it to it.
Do you suppose the Apple store at the mall, since I just got a 4S with Apple Care+ might be able to help me, or would there be a fee? I can't afford a new computer right now, and if mine just could never work with match period, might I get a refund?

How big is your library?  I would recommend the following troubleshooting steps:
    - Backup your library.  Always a good idea before messing with things.
    - Create a new library.   Refer to this article for details:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589.  This won't delete your old library, you're just creating a new empty one.  Also refer to this article to get back to your old library later.
    - Add a few albums into this new library.  Not everything, just a small sampling, as a test.
    - Activate Match on this new library.  You shouldn't have to re-pay, it should just say "Add Computer" or similar.
    - At this point, Match should run again. With just a few albums it should complete in just a few minutes.
If iTunes doesn't crash at this point, then likely there's something about your original library that Match doesn't like - what that is I don't know, but at least you'll know it's not your PC.   If iTunes still crashes, then if could be a number of other things, but probably not your library.   My next suggestion (if you haven't already done this) is to uninstall / reinstall iTunes.   If that doesn't work, then my next ideas you won't like.

  • ITunes no longer runs after 10.5.6 update

My PPC Mac Mini was running fine up until 2 days ago. Then I ran the latest 10.5.6 update and now iTunes freezes when I start it. It doesn't even get to the point where the iTunes menus display. Right clicking shows "Application not responding". I try to Force Quit with no luck. I have to power down to get it to stop.
I've repaired the permissions with no success.
    Suggestions?

    ------ Suggestions? ------------
check by doing a spotlight search to see if you have more than one iTunes.app's (an archive and restore creates multiple versions of all kinds of software), and sometimes the update updates the correct iTunes.app... yet you'll be running an older version...
also, back up all your data that you have, make sure it is backed up... and that it is good data and you have everything, then do an install from your original leopard Disk, then download the "combo" update of 10.5.6... and apply that on top...
(also you could do a clean install, by wiping your disk first, but you must make sure your backup has everything, and is good data)....
if itunes still doesn't work... then take out your iTunes library to the side, and slowly add pieces back in to the proper place. (this will determine if you have corrupted data in your library)
and one more thing, if your old computer is working the way you want, NEVER install an Apple security update, or even a regular update... Old hardware likes Old OS's and apps.
If your App is working the way you want it to, never install app updates either.
if none of the above worked, then install from your original disks, then a combo updater to the version that you had before 10.5.6... and then be happy that an old machine could atleast run that version.
    Jon.

  • ITunes No Longer Runs--iTunes Helper Resources Not a Valid File Name

I made a dumb mistake (I think) and tried to install iTunes onto an SD card.  At first, my computer would only let me open iTunes if the SD card was installed.  I tried to reinstall to the C drive, but keep getting the "I Tunes Helper Resources not a Valid File Name" message.  At this point I want to uninstall everything and start over, but I'm afraid I'll lose my music.  I still have all the files but, of course, none will open since I don't have a properly installed iTunes anymore.   Would appreciate any assistance in uninstalling, reinstalling and saving my current music files.

Here's what I decided to do.  Fortunately, all the files were still available, so I simply backed them up from my iTunes Music Library onto a 32 GB flash drive then transferred the new stuff onto an older computer in my office with an older version of iTunes.  I had to do this in several shifts since I have more than 32GB of music.  Everything that transferred plays well.  Next I'll try to wipe iTunes completely off the new computer, reinstall an older version of iTunes and then reload all the files onto the new computer.  What a PITA!

  • Upgraded to 6.0.5 and itunes does not run

I'm running Windows 2003 (i know, not officially supported...) and I upgraded itunes to 6.0.5. itunes no longer runs. I get an application error on start with " iTunes.exe - Application Error" "The exception Privileged instruction. (0xc0000096) occured in the application at location 0x7ca2af84."
I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled a few times now with no luck. I have never had a problem running itunes on Windows 2003 before. Any ideas? Can I go back to a previous version of itunes?
      Other OS

Hi. I am getting the same error:
    The exception Privileged instruction.
(0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x7ca2af84.
I did not save a copy of iTunes 6.0.4
Does anyone have one? I looked at oldversion.com as suggested by bootlace and got the old version of QuickTime but cannot find the old version of iTunes.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • ITunes no longer keeps speakers running on headphone jack

iTunes no longer keeps my external speakers running when connected by audio cable to the headphones jack. After 1:45 min:sec, my Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 speakers power down when connected to my computer playing iTunes.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other sources on my computer. When I play a video or audio file through Safari or another browser, the speakers work fine. When I listen to an audio file by selecting it in the Finder using Apple-Y ("quick-view"), the speakers run continuously until the end of the track without powering down. When I use the speakers configured the same way with other software (such as Skype), they work fine.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other DEVICES. When I plug the speaker cable into the headphone jack of either my iPhone 3Gs or my partner's mp3 player and play audio, the speakers work continuously.
I've looked at trouble-shooting for iTunes and found nothing on the Apple site or the web or in the iTunes preferences to keeping wire external speakers live during iTunes playback. I've tried having the speakers connected to a power source or running on batteries but the problem is the same. I've reset the speaker device with no change. I've reinstalled iTunes, no change. The Apple Store genius bar cleared all caches and restarted, no change. They reinstalled the computer system, but found no change.

  • I can no longer run itunes since the latest update

i can no longer run itunes since the latest update

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (If this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • After installing the most recent iTunes update/version iTunes will no longer run on my PC.  I receive a window with the Microsoft error code R6034

After installing the most recent iTunes update/version iTunes will no longer run on my PC (Windows 7).  I receive multiple error windows with the Microsoft error code R6034.  Microsoft's Help site states that this error occurs when a driver attempts to access the C++ library without a "Manifest".  I do not know what a manifest is, but apparently any attempt to directly access the C++ library is not permitted.  The site instructs the viewer to contact the application developer.

  • 1st gen iPod Touch, old app no longer runs

I have a first generation iPod Touch, version 3.1.3.  About a year ago I bought an app, "Converter Plus (Universal)", and it worked fine until recently when I received notice of an update.  There were a few app updates and all loaded successfully except the Converter Plus (Universal) which gave me an error message that the software I have does not support the updated app.  I understand and accept that my old iPod Touch does not support most (almost all) new apps.  The problem, however, is that the old Converter Plus (Universal) app that worked fine for a year no longer runs.  I try to open it, the initial screen pops up but shuts down right away.  I can only assume that when the recent update was attempted but failed it somehow messed up the old app.  Is there any way to restore the old version of the app so I can go back to using it?  The app only cost $1.99 so it is hardly the end of the world if I cannot use it any more, but I am worried all my other older apps (some of which receive regular updates) might also stop working and that just seems wrong to me.  Feels like I am being robbed.  Thanks for any suggestions.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try deleting the version of that app that is in your iTunes library. Then do the following:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
Then delete the app from your iPod and sync the app back to your iPod and see if it works.
    - Next try restoring from backup. Make sure that all the apps that are compatible with 3.1.3 are in your iTunes library so they can be synced back as part of the restore from backup.
    - Last, restore to factory settings/new iPod and sync your media to the iPod.

iTunes no longer works on my Windows VISTA system.  Get error msg saying an application is attempting to access C runtime library incorrectly... Error 7, Windows error 1114.  Same msg, or one that says unable to install, when trying to update or reinstall iTunes.  iTunes worked well up until about a month ago when this error msg starting appearing.

    iTunes

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

  • PC and iTunes no longer recognize my iPhone 4?

Hoping someone can help as I'm completely at a loss and super frustrated.
My PC & iTunes no longer "see" my iPhone 4 when I connect it to my computer. I've tried all my USB ports- they all charge my phone, but it does not show up in device manager, etc. I have also tried updating iTunes, reinstalling iTunes, restarting my iPhone, completely charging iPhone before plugging in, restarting my computer a billion times, and making sure it is not conflicting with any security software. I've also gone into MSconfig and followed these directions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275. Nothing has worked.
I am running Windows XP Media 2002 SP2. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 6.1.3. I connected my phone to my computer back in January before updating to 6.1.3 and computer recognized phone just fine. Have not tried to plug in since, but now I really would like to pull the pictures off my phone and start fresh.. But can't.
    Help?

Have you tried connecting the phone to another computer? You can try to connect to another computer that has iTunes connected. Make sure that computer does not have iTunes set to automatically sync. After that, you should be able to import your pictures from the Camera Roll via the Scanner and Camera Wizard for older versions of Windows, or via the Import manager in the newer versions of Windows.
Have you checked to make sure your Windows is up to date? Is SP2 the latest update for that version of XP? While you say that you did connect to the computer some time in the past, the tech specs for the iPhone 4 show that Windows XP needs to be SP3.

  • ITunes no longer lets me display multiple pieces of artwork attached to the same song.

I have scanned the covers, the backs, and some of the liner notes for most of the songs in my 38,000 song library.
Earlier versions of iTunes diplayed small arrows in the frame above the artwork viewer in the main window whenever more than one piece of artwork was attached to a selected song.  Sometime last summer these arrows disappeared and I can no longer view anything but the cover artwork.
When I show the get-info dialog for a single song, the artwork tab still shows all the pieces of artwork that I added so the art is all still there.
If I drag any of these pieces of artwork from that get-info pane onto the desktop, the resulting file is the size and quality of the original artwork added to that song.
I went to the apple store and added one song to the iTunes program running on one of their laptops.  I added multiple pieces of artwork to that song and the arrows appeared above the artwork viewer as they did in the past with the iTunes I have running at home.
Has anyone had a problem like this?
    I am using a mac pro with 2 x 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors and 8GB of 800MHz memory.

This is also driving me nuts. Particularly annoying is the fact that if you add a second piece of artwork by pasting it into the artwork window in the lower left corner, the arrows that used to let you scroll through the artwork reappear for a short time!
So I don't think this is a feature, but an error somewhere and it has been missing across MANY updates
Please go to "Provide Feedback" iTunes and ask for this feature to be fixed. I've done it many times but my guess is unless they have multiple complaints that this is a low priority issue for Apple.

  • ITunes no longer able to sync with Outlook

    Hello,
This is my first ever post on any forum so please go easy on me.
I have an iPhone 4s, and iPad1 and run Windows7. I recently tried using iCloud but didn't like the Outlook calendar (appearance or speed) so wanted to go back to just syncing via my USB cable.
I have followed all steps on here, restoring the iPhone, removing and reinstalling iTunes completely (5 times now) and my phone and iPad will no longer sync, they just sit in never land at either backing up calendar or contacts (I have tried leaving them on for hours at a time). I have now lost my calendar and all of the music off the iPhone so hoping for a solution.
I have heard iTunes no longer supports syncing via iTunes, they want you to use iCloud but can't find anything definitive on this but it would explain why I can't get this to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel like I have tried everything.
    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried using Google's sync services that are free yet? It sounds to me like you are not using Exchange for your iPhone with work. So, that would leave it open to use with Google. Keep your Google sync with your work calendar (Outlook), then sync up the Google Calendar with iCal so you have the calendar at home. Separately, setup your iPhone to sync real-time with your Google Calendar using the Microsoft Exchange settings. If all you are trying to do is get your one calendar to be the same everywhere, that will do it and it's all free. Here are links to instructions:
