ITunes no longer updating "last played" after signing up for Match

The subject says it all. Aftter signing up for Match and going through the whole upload/download dance, iTunes no longer records "Last Played." Other fields, like play count, might be effected too, but haven't check. Anyway to get this feature back? I use it a lot.

This subject has been discussed in-depth on this forum. A search will turn up multiple already-existing threads.
Yes, last played dates from iOS devices do not sync back to iTunes. This is a bug that has not been fixed yet by Apple.

  • How to resolve iPhone 5 sync freeze that started after signing up for Match service

The title really says it all. Ever since I signed up for the Match service, I have had problems with iTunes, particularly with syncing my iPhone 5 (first generation). Sometimes iTunes hangs as soon as it opens, or takes forever to send/receive my Match results. Other times, it goes through that process and then hangs when I try to sync the phone and it gets to the 6th step. If I cancel the sync, it still continues to stall, saying "cancelling sync." Closing and restarting the software and/or the computer does not help. I have the most recent iOS on the phone. I also just installed the latest release of iTunes hoping it would fix the problem, but I'm getting the same results. I am on a core i3 Toshiba Satellite laptop.I have a reasonably fast wifi connection - 12 mbps, I think it is.
    Any help or advice appreciated.

  • 8.1 not updating Last Played time/date

Songs are playing normally, but when I check Recently Played it only shows the tracks that played just before installing the update. The Play Count is registering properly, but the time and date played are not.
Also, I'd rather have my old shuffle function back. Genius is an optional function that can be turned off if I choose not to use it and I wish iTunes DJ was the same way.

I'm also no longer getting last played time updated as well as play count not increasing. Also, when I rate a track from the shuffle's list, the rating does not transfer to the original track on disk. This makes manual management of tracks on a shuffle impossible. The play position is also lost.
Apple, this is a critical bug bug, because of loss of data. Please fix it asap.

  • Device plays not updating Last Played field

I see that this was an issue two years ago -- cannot believe that it has not been fixed.
Issue: Match updates play count/Last Played field from iTunes computer installs, but not via device plays. Three iPhones, an iPad, and an Apple TV all show this behavior.
There is simply no point in having Smart Playlists with a Last Played condition (or any time/play count condition) if Match does not receive and update ALL play data. Home Sharing has a device play count option, but that puts me back in the box of sharing one library locally and hoping to sync stuff up manually in all ways I could possibly anticipate. Putting stuff in iCloud -- which initially took forever -- was supposed to make things easier, not harder. Now I see that we have Genius Playlists as an option. How can they possibly not become repetitive unless a play count/Last Played value is stored for them? Or will such data only be device specific, an ever weirder breakdown of the supposed global Match promise?

My iPhone 5 on iOS 7 seems to be syncing my play history via iTunes Match with no problems.  I have not synced my phone with iTunes on my computer, so it isn't from device syncing. I was definitely at work at 1/8 at 11 am...

  • What the h*** happened to Live Updating of smart playlists in iT 11? I have several smart lists that pull from larger lists based on how recently a song has played. Not happening now. The whole library only updates "last played"

What the h*** happened to Live Updating of smart playlists in iT 11? I have several smart lists that pull from larger lists based on how recently a song has played. Not happening now. The whole library only updates "last played" for about 1 in 20 songs. This is really screwing up my lists that I use as backgrounds for a lot of activities in my classroom at school.

FYI, I've found that Live Updating can SORT OF work. It seems if you only have two rules, live upating works (IE, I have one that is a Rating must be 3-5*'s and last played cannot be within the last 8 weeks). Once the song is played it disapears off the playlist. BUT, as soon as I try to add a third rule, it doesn't work anymore! This is unfortunate because two rules really limits the ability of the playlist...

  • IPod Shuffle 2 no longer updating playlist play count and last played date

I use my shuffle 2 in the gym.  When I'm done working out I sync and the most recently played songs are rotated off using a smart play list.  This is no longer working.  I reset the shuffle 2, I've forced sync and auto filled many times.  My latest workout it still lists all the songs I just listened to in the order I listened to them and has their last played date as many months ago.
This seems to be affecting my other iPod too, but it is tougher to diagnose.  I signed up to iTunes Match and after several days that is still running but I noticed this problem long before iTunes Match became available in Canada.  Both my iPod Shuffle and iTunes are up to date but my music is on an older but upgraded Mac.  It has a G4 so no Lion upgrade, I just checked it is 10.5.8

All my tracks should be MP3s or AAC.  I ripped them myselfs with iTunes.  I may have bought some songs directly off of record labels or some other online music store, but I own my music legally whether I bought it on CD or got given it by magazines or record labels.
I went to the gym today.  I set the shuffle to random.  Some songs were synched back to iTunes but they weren't the songs I listened to, at least not all of them.  Some of them may have been the songs I listened to last workout, at least one or two of the songs updated I did listen to today.
I listened to some other songs last night on my main Mac so it is easy to determine which songs iTunes updated this morning.
I haven't had much time to play with Match.  It is still updating and uploading, it has 6000 songs to go.  That means in a half month of trying it has managed to find and/or upload a little over 1000 songs actually close to 2000 now.  It is something, but it isn't the service I was sold.  All my songs and playlists were supposed to be available in the cloud.  That hasn't happened and in the case of my smart playlists will never happen.
I'll read you link, but I wrote a blog posting how I was disappointed with the service so far.
    Thanks!

  • Syncing/ update "Last Played" in 10.5, based on remote 10.3 itunes machine

I love my antique ibook used as an ipod running itunes in 10.3x (This is very useful to play podcasts on my self employed job. Am physically working at various places.)
Question, is there an easy way to get my IntelMacPro downloader machine to sync the "Last Played" info from my 10.3 ibook? (Downloading is a small but important job for my macpro workstation. Maybe i'll start using my ibook to download all podcasts, get a better HD or something. Not sure how long podcasts need to be saved. All depends on legislation in the USA which might hamper internet use, based on red alert tactics, which seem to loom in the background of all possibility.)
    Insights appreciated.

Downgrading via Archive and install is notoriously unreliable. It is much safer to simply retrieve your backup you made before you installed the update after an erase and install. Of course you make at least two backups. Selective file recovery may be in order, such as found in migrating from PowerPC to Intel Macs:

  • IPhone not updating "last played" information in ITunes (Mac OS X 10.4.10)

When I listen to a podcast on my iPhone in its entirety, it doesn't show up as having been played in iTunes, and the "last played" information in iTunes doesn't change. I have iTunes configured to sync all of my podcasts. This works great on my iPod but not on my iPhone. I am using iTunes 7.3 (54). Does anyone know what the issue is and how to fix it? Thanks.

I don't know what happened, but it started working properly later on.

  • ITunes no longer imports or plays CD's

I'm running iTunes 8 on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and I've run into a problem where if I try to import a CD, iTunes starts to import the first track, then just proceeds to skip through every track until it reaches the end with nothing imported. As it tries to import, you can see the little animated importing animation to the left of the song, but it only lasts a second or so then moves to the other tracks and does the same until the end.
I get this same issue when trying to play a CD, with iTunes skipping through all the tracks trying to play something. I've done the iTunes diagnostics for the CD drive, and all tests have passed. CDs play fine in Windows Media Player BTW.

I have a nearly identical problem. I can import part of the first track, and for some reason, part of the 6th track and then skips over the rest. It shows the play times as a huge number (somewhere around 667 hours) but imports nothing. I cannot play the CD with iTunes either.
I bought vista home premium and was disappointed to discover it does not come with a x64 bit disk. I used vista 32 bit software and had absolutely no problems with iTunes. After a fresh install of vista for 64 bit iTunes no longer works properly. I can still play anything I transferred from my backup HD but no importing is possible.
I have tried the error correction with no success. I tried installing and running 32 bit iTunes and it gives me an error saying something to the effect of "iTunes is improperly installed. You may need to reinstall iTunes to fix this problem."
I have a hard time believing that this is due to a x64 bit problem as Apple has used this technology longer than most. Is this an issue with the latest iTunes? I am going to fuss with it some more but I'm very frustrated that I can bearly use the new iPod I bought. Any suggestions from Apple users as well as Dark Side (*vista or windows in general :)*) users would be awesome.

  • ITunes Radio not working properly after signing up for iTunes Match

I've been a user of iTunes Radio for some time now, and I've enjoyed it with minimal technical issues - until I signed up for iTunes Match. I'm not sure if it's simply coincidence, or if my subscription is causing issues.
The problem is that when I click on a station, whether it be a Featured Station or one of My Stations, it acts like it will play, but the time bar never comes up below the song title. Instead of showing the status bar when a song is playing, indicating the time lapsed/remaining, it shows a solid blue bar all the way across with no time.
I use Radio on my MacBook Pro (2009) and I also AirPlay my music to two Bose SoundTouch 20 speaker systems. I'm on the latest version of iTunes, my Bose systems are updated with the latest software, and I've never had an issue with this before. I can play songs I own or ones that I want to preview in the iTunes Store just fine through all of my speaker systems. What's interesting is that my NPR station in Radio works fine, though that one doesn't allow for AirPlay.
I'm also having identical issues from my iPhone 5s. Though I can only play to one AirPlay device at a time from my iPhone, the symptoms are otherwise the same. Downloaded songs play fine; iTunes Radio freaks out and gives the "Station Temporarily Unavailable" message. Except it's not temporary, unless you consider two months of this irritation temporary...
Here's what I've tried so far:
Logging out of iTunes, restarting and logging back in.
    Resetting my Bose AirPlay speakers.
Turning off the Bose SoundTouch App and Music Server App on my computer.
Disconnecting my Bose AirPlay speakers from power altogether.
Restarting computer and resetting iTunes Cache and Warnings.
None of those attempts at fixing this issue has resolved anything. I'm at a bit of a loss for help here, and I really don't want to start uninstalling and reinstalling programs if it can be avoided. If there's a way to unsubscribe from iTunes Match, I'd want to try that first as that seemed to be when things started becoming non-responsive. If Apple provides a way to fix iTunes or the iTunes Match service without charging me a $29 support fee, I think that would be great, but I haven't seen one.
Anyone encounter this before? Anyone at Apple listening? I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Try it in Cellular as a quick test. Mi had lots of troubles and isolated the issue to Cox communications. May be an ISP issue.

  • Not updating last played during sync on Vista

    Hey,
I just got a new laptop with Vista on it and now my shuffle no longer will update the playlists with last played and last skipped as it did in XP. This is quite important as it determines what songs will go on the iPod and the whole reason why I bought it. Has anyone found a fix to this? Is Apple working on this problem?

Is it an Apple problem or a Vista problem?

  • Doesn't always update last played list

    I have a 2nd generation shuffle that I bought a month ago.
It works fine, except for one thing. About 25 percent of the time when I plug my shuffle into my iMac, it doesn't update the "last played" list with the songs I've been listening to since the last time I had it plugged in. The other 75 percent of the time, it updates the "last played" list just like it's supposed to. As far as I can tell, this behavior is random.
I'm using all the latest versions of iTunes, and I've updated my iPod software.

    Hello WHAVEman,
I was able to replicate what you were observing. It seems that there is a bug in the front panel binding code. I would be filing a Corrective Action Report to let R&D know about this. Thanks for pointing it out.
Just on the side note, if you are looking to build an application based on the application architecture as in your posted code, then I would recommend that you refer to the attached VI for a much more efficient way of doing this.

  • Itunes no longer authorised to play 50 songs on my Ipod!!!!

Very confused I plugged in my Ipod to charge and I got a message:
THis computer is no longer authorised to play purchased items that are on the ipod, would i like to authorise this computer for items purchased from itunes store.
If you do not authorise 50 songs will be removed from ipod.
When I click authorise i get Error we could not complete your itunes store request An unknow error occured (-42408) There was an error on itunes store please try later, but itunes store is working fine ?!
Help. I haven't changed any settings i just want my songs that i have paid for.

    Sarah, try this.
Eject your ipod. Close itunes. Restart itunes withOUT your ipod connected. See if you can play one of those purchases in itunes.
If so, you can probably connect the ipod and have it work properly. There seems to be some bug where if the ipod gets plugged in and that opens itunes, the error 42408 happens. But if itunes is started BEFORE the ipod is connected, it's OK.
    Good luck!

  • IPod loses "Last Played" after being connected to another computer

I've done a lot of searching on this, but it's a hard thing to search for since it's difficult to explain. Hopefully someone has heard of this before. If it's already been posted somewhere, I apologize.
Basically, I sync my iPod classic 80gb with my work computer. I use a lot of smart playlists to manage what I listen to. "Last Played" is an integral part of my smart playlist system.
If I connect my iPod to any computer other than my work computer, the iPod will forget any of the songs I listened to since the last time I synced. I would like to be able to use the iPod as a portable hard drive, but when I do I lose this information. I just tested this to be sure, but when this happens, I don't lose any ratings that I've given to songs since my last sync. So far I've only noticed "Last Played" being dropped.
Any information would be a huge help. Thanks!
