ITunes (not 7.0.1) Not Opening

It was working fine last night before I put my computer into sleep mode. I came home today and wanted to play some music and all of a sudden ITunes won't open. It gives me no error message at all. I opened the Task Manager to see if it was running in the background and when I try to open it, I see ITunes.exe and then a second or two later it goes away. I have not updated ITunes since I got it; I think it is version 6.0.

If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that. If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar. Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it. If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.
If it doesn't appear on the left side, follow the troubleshooting steps shown in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538.

You have missing information in your Windows programming.
You need to repair your computer so it can run iTunes. If you plug those error codes into your browser you may get an answer.

this just started w/ me yesterday. I was running 10.5.3, and nothing changed - the message just appeard out of nowhere. I update to the latest iTunes 10.6 but the message is the same.
Sounds like probably some sort of Library file corruption.
The two options available in the message box are "Download" and "Quit". Download is useless because I'm already running the latest. Quit is pretty useless.
I was going to just create a new Library and re-import all my music. Of course, all my iPhone sync settings are going go have to be recreated.

I have tried to install it but when I do I receive an error message. I repeat the entire error message in the following paragraph. I've been having the same exact problem this morning, and from the looks of it a lot of other people are posting about this issue, so I don't know if it's maybe something wrong with the download but I'm just relieved that it seems to be that instead of a corruption issue with my windows installation. I followed all the instructions on the suggested page. Many files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\ could not be deleted. Message said ""Cannot delete files: It is being used by another person or program"' but could not find iPodService.exe in task manager (also, the "Cannont delete ... " did not mention iPodService.exe).
Deleted all that I could. Reinstalled iTunes. Still same result. iTunes and computer both recognize my old iPod. Only the computer recognizes iPod Touch.

If you run into the "another installation" message even after the reboot of the PC (which is an excellent idea by HTP ProXy), reregistering your Windows Installer Service is worth a try.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Restart the PC and try another reinstalll.

I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes for my Laptop. I have recently moved my internet to my laptop so i have been updating software for the past two days.
However, when the download of Itunes is finish i can not open it. There is no error message at all, it just does not open, it just begins to load with the 'hourglass' waiting symbol and then stops. I can't open it at all.
I am runnin on Windows XP and had no previous trouble with the older version of iTunes. I am now regretting that i even updated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had exactl the same problem, it drove me crazy for about one week. Actually both 7.1.1 and any 6.x version didn't want to install on my PC.
7.1.1 just downloaded ok and than after running it terminated with no message and no action.
I tried almost everything: from manually removing all WinXP Registry entries to checking the entrire Win installation.
I also tried to download itunes from a different PC, but again same result.
Finally, I gave it a try to download iTunes from a different web site and... everything worked flawlessy!!
The only conclusion I came to is a possible issue between my network/firewall/ISP settings and Apple download services.. very hard to justify in real world but I can't think of anything else.
So my advice is to look for another web site hosting iTunes for donwload and give it a try!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

first, launch disk utility (in applications > utilities) and repair permissions for your boot disk.
next, check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in the finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so
the important part is to apply to enclosed items !
