ITunes not closing

This is the strangest problem I've encountered in a while. iTunes functions normally, but when I close (either by iTunes>Quit iTunes or Apple-Q), it doesn't close and I need to repeat the function. With 100% consistency, I need to "close" iTunes twice before it actually closes.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?

My iTunes exhibits one of the following two symptoms:
1. First, it sometimes crashes of its own accord;
2. Second, it doesn't want to QUIT — i.e. although the window closes when I select Quit, the Dock (and Activity Monitor) show that it's actually still running. I've tried everything I can think of, including Force Quitting and Re-launching the Finder, but in the end, the only thing that actually gets iTunes to quit is logging out of my account.
On the other hand, since I have installed SRS iWOW (an audio enhancer plug-in), I've got to admit that both these symptoms are my own fault. iTunes works perfectly when I uninstall the SRS iWOW plug-in [yes, it's even their latest upgrade (v.2.0.2.225) which is claimed on their website to be Leopard compatible.

  • ITunes not closing down - hanging on close down

When I close down iTunes (using command Q or when shutting down the computer), iTunes does not close. There is just a spinning colorful wheel, and eventually a time out error.
This happened first about a week ago, after upgrading to 10.2, and still happens with 10.2.1.
I did a complete uninstall and reinstall, and it still happens.
    Command: iTunes
    Path: /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes
    Version: 10.2.1 (10.2.1)
    Build Version: 1
    Project Name: iTunes
    Source Version: 10210101
    Parent: launchd [125]
    PID: 385
    Event: hang
Duration: 5.24s (sampling started after 2 seconds)
    Steps: 12 (100ms sampling interval)

Hold down the option key and start iTunes. This lets you create a new library. Put a file in it (doesn't matter if it's only one). Close iTunes. Does it hang? If not, it's your main library file. Could be corrupted or something else unusual about it.
I believe if you hold down the shift key while starting iTunes it starts in safe mode. See if that works. If it does then it may be a third party plug-in causing problems.

  • My Macbook Will Not Shut Down due to Itunes not closing.

I updated my iphone5 on itunes a couple weeks ago and made some changes in the settings and then I pressed apply and then it started backing up my iphone, after waiting quite sometime I clicked cancel backup. But it did not really cancel because I have had that message for a couple weeks now and I can not even close itunes or shut down my computer because the error message, " iTunes cannot quit because it is updating the software on the iPhone”. Can someone please help me as Itunes running and doing this all the time has been draining my battery and causing it to run slow?
    Thanks

Hold the start button till the Mac does a hard shutdown. ( it may take 15 -30 seconds) Then restart while holding the shift key down to start in safe mode. This can take some time (1 min or so ) so don't let up on the shift key till you see a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. This way the Mac runs some file check routines that may fix your problem

  • ITunes 11.02 not closing (reopening) OS 10.7.5

iTunes is currently not closing (well closing but automattically reopening right after). My setup has my itunes library on a seperate internal hard drive from where the program is installed (SSD) - don't know if that has anything to do with it. Didn't have this problem before the major iTunes 11 update. I can only close it (without it reopening again) if no media has been played. So I play music, decide I want to quit the program, watch it reopen, don't play anything, hit quit again and it wont reopen and close for good. I do not have my phone setup for wifi sync and it is not plugged in. Turned home sharing off to see if that would fix it with no luck. Any ideas? Reinstalled recently with no luck either.

Are you using the correct cables.  iPod cables look similar, but are not, as they are 1.1 USB cables, where your iPhone and iPad require a 2.0 USB cable.
Also, make sure you are not plugging your USB cable into a Hub or keyboard USB port, but one directly on the computer.
You may want to reset the USB ports, by resetting the SMC and PRAM

    Hello Rhys Eyre,
You can upgrade to OS X v.10.6.8 (if you still use 10.6.5). We don't know yet if Lion is required to install Montain Lion.
    For your iTunes problem :
    - Did you try to repair the permissions (with Disk Utility in your Applications > Utilities folder) ?
    - Do you have the last version of iTunes (v. 10.6) ?
If not, you can dowload it here : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    - You can try to delete iTunes' preferences, to do that go to yourusername > Library > Preferences and delete every file that contains the name iTunes.
    Hope this will help.

  • Getting Files off CD-RW that is not Closed

    Hi,
I have an issue that is new to me. My dad has a CD of a music concert his chorus performed that was captured from the mixing board to a CD writer of some sort. The result was a CD that has a single session that is marked as Open when I look at the disk in Toast.
He had 2 such CDs but I closed the session and finalized one disk by burning an additional file on it. That closed the disk and I could see the 2 sessions (as different volumes) and get the audio files off the disk. However, the second CD seems to have run out of room for me to try that trick again. I tried to copy an empty file created by the "touch" command (probably about 4k in size since nothing is every empty in size) it tells me there is ~600k to write and only about 300k available. Toast tells me there is 702MB of data on the disk already (and CDs only say they hold 700MB so I'm assuming it's at the limit).
So the big question is whether I can use Terminal or some other means to just grab the files from the disk even though the session is open and the disk is not closed. Has anyone run into this before or a way around it? Since the Finder will not mount the open session I can't see it in the /Volumes folder to copy from it. Disk Utility wants to erase the disk and Toast can see the disk and if I had room I could write more to it.
Any help or ideas anyone has is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Give this one a try....
    http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/Dragon-Burn.shtml
Do just run it and go.....and do a fresh restart, run that app, then feed the CD - all in one shot, right after a reboot and don't run any other burn apps, feed in any other disks, etc.
If it mounts for DragonBurn, immediately create an image, then burn that to a blank DVD or export audio tracks to iTunes...don't try to pack it all back onto a CD.

  • ITunes not recognizing iPhone without base station

I recently bought a new case for my iPhone and it is hard to take off. I usually put my phone on the base station but when I take the wire out of the base and plug it directly into the phone, iTunes does not recognize it. I have tried to connect it with iTunes open/closed, rebooted. BTW this is XP. Any ideas?

    FYI:
I figured it out. I was using an older iPod cable that was plugged into the base. That seemed to work fine but when I plugged the cable directly into the phone it did not stay connected. I switched cables and am now using the one that come with the iPhone. I haven't had any disconnects yet and it seems to be charging correctly.

    Hi Keith,
Try closing all the applications you have running in the background and re-open iTunes, if that doesn't work I recommend to restart your machine and make sure you have the lastest version of iTunes.

  • ITunes Not Recognizing/Reading iPod

    Hello!
I've recently had trouble with iTunes not recognizing/reading my iPod. I've plugged it in, but iTunes fails to recognize that it's been plugged in. It does charge, but that's it. I've been trying to sync my iPod, but I'm now unable to. This problem only began a few weeks ago, rather suddenly, and has not yet worked since then. I'm hoping I don't have reinstall iTunes, as I've purchased some new songs and those are what I'm trying to copy over, and I don't wish to lose those.
I'm currently running Windows Vista, and I'm not sure which versions of iTunes I'm using. I know I was using 7 at some point, but I don't remember if I've updated beyond that. I'm also using a 2nd Generation iPod Nano.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening and/or what I can do to fix it will be eagerly waited for!
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various ‘generic’ solutions that you can try in an effort to correct your problem. One should work. These are listed in simplest to more involved order (usually). Read through them all, and see if one specifically matches your observed issue(s).
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. However, it may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
Your iPod may be conflicting with other USB peripherals or network drives. If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC
-- Open iTunes &/or Connect the iPod
If you do find that your Device Manager is blank, you should probably check up on this issue first: No Items Appear in the Device Manager List When You Open It
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
Try using another PC if you have access to one. Even a Mac may help. Try Restoring it on the other computer and moving it back to yours.

  • Is there a way to auto sign out from itunes store when itunes is closed?

We have multiple libraries on one PC (Win7). Each user has their own Itunes account and their own Itunes library. When Itunes is closed and then reopened into a different library, the Itunes Store remaines signed in to the last user who signed in. I would like to automatically sign out of the Itunes store when Itunes is closed. Anybody have a suggestion?

    Hi,
iChat and Messages 7 (Mountain Lion) had a pane in the App Menu > Preferences  called Alerts.
This could see the Sounds in iChat (or Messages), the System Sounds defaults and anything you had stored in ~/Library/Messages and you could set any of these Sounds to any of the 17 actions as a global choice
As in Maverick if you highlight a Buddy in a Buddy List and then use CMD + i (Get Info) you could similarly set sound to individual Buddies.
You cannot do this in Mavericks/Messages 8 as the Alerts Pane have disappeared.
You cannot turn Off the sounds the app makes for the various different actions such as Video Invite or File Transfers.
You can no longer set individual Buddy sounds either.
There has not been a way to do this for iMessage Contacts.

I am noticing that for the last 2 days iTunes on my Win 7 desktop does not open after it has been opened and closed once.  I have to reboot my machine to get it to work.  I uninstalled and reinstalled ituness but my issue persists.  Has anyone else faced this issue?

  • With Windows Vista, the most recent Itunes update 1/30/2014 has caused Itunes not to work, with a Mscvr80.dll not found error. Uninstalled all Apple programs, and installed fresh Itunes. Same problem. Tried to reinstall using an older install exe nogo

Recent ITunes update has caused ITunes not to work. Tried uninstalling all Apple products and reinstalling fresh. Still doesn't work. Tried reinstalling from an old install.exe. Install went nicely but program won't start as it says it can't open the library file.

Now that I have no way of accessing any of the products I have purchased from ITunes, I will most certainly never use ITunes again for any reason. Why throw good money after bad?  I will use another MP3 player that is not as cumbersome or proprietary.
    Lesson learned.

I just recently purchased 3 songs from itunes not knowing that I had no money on my debit card (visa) left. My iphone wont let me update my apps and says that there was a billing problem with my last purchase. I dont know what I am supposed to do! I dont understand why it worked in the first place when it wasn't supposed to!

There seems to be a billing problem with the iTS.  I've been trying to make purchases today (Dec 9th) too and it reports either the iTS can not process payments or it says my card was declined. I even changed the payment method to Paypal (which is never declined) and still no go.
I don't think it is "you" but a problem at Apple.  Some popular new apps were released recently like Logic Pro and perhaps they're getting bombarded as they did when Lion was released.
Wait a few hours and then try again.

  • Why is my itunes not installing properly? I installed it and it was fine, then it started to show Errors. iTunes exe - Entry Point not Found. And the Error 7 (Windows error 127).Itsays to reinstall iTunes. I did that and same error. new pc, same on old

Why is my itunes not installing properly?
I installed itunes day before yesterday,  I spent hours last night linking all my music photograph and movie files, its a new windows 8 laptop.
I plugged in my 64GB ipad 3 rebooted it and reloaded all the information I wanted on it, took hours... finally completed this this morning. After this I restarted the laptop to configure my icloud link for the laptop (which I installed last night while I was loading files, I chose to restart later)
on completion I turned my laptop off for a few hours, when I turned it back on I went to itunes to connect my iphone to do the same and I got this message:
iTunes exe - Entry Point Not Found
    The procedure entry point
    AVCFPlayerAppliesMediaSelectionCriteriaAutomaticallyKey could not
be located in dynamiclink library F:\Programmes\iTunes.dll

then after pressing 'OK' the following message:

iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes
    Error 7 (Windows error 127)
I went back to apple website to reinstall iTunes, first reinstalled it same again, then unsinstalled it and the reinstalled it, same again.
The same thing happened with my old lap top and I replaced it with this new one at the start of the week.
Has anyone any idea what is going on and how to rectify this problem, I am now going on 3 weeks without iTunes.

  • SAP Production Order not closing

    Hi there,
I am running the COHV with Complete parameter in the background, and it does pick up several TECO orders from the past, like say from 2009 which are not closed but it does not process them to CLSD status.
I am seeing some entries in COHV, CO1P, COFC transactions - I picked a few randomly to check.
The order qty is not always equal to the delivered qty - Again a random test
The consumption qty on the components is not always equal to the required qty, which leaves reservation open - random check
Is all the above causing my order not to close ? where do I see the error log, when I try to close the order. I wrote the above issues based on my random check.
    Thank you

    Hi SAP Process,
When you run COHV to close the orders, you can see the log with the list of orders that have not been closed.
To see in detail what has happened you will need to check order by order.
Other option will we to evaluate each situation separatelly. You can check COGI, CO1P, see open reservations, check if you have TR or TO if you use WM, etc.. Once each situation is cleaned, you will be able to closed most of your production orders. It is quite common to create a custom report to make all these checks (COGI, TR/TOs, etc) and closed the orders.
    Kind Regards,
    Mariano
