  • ITunes not detecting iPod Touch

So I just got the 32GB iPod Touch today. 2nd Gen of course.
Already had iTunes in my PC before this. So as how it should go, I plugged the iTouch in, it started to sync my music. Okay so that was normal. Then it asked to update it's firmware to 2.2. And I said yes.
After updating it asked to install, but my songs were still syncing with the iTouch. I said yes to install the updates anyway. It started installing and suddenly my iTunes just crashed, saying some error and it couldn't install the latest firmware. Ever since then iTunes won't/can't detect my iTouch anymore but Windows can.
The driver installed is 'Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver', is that the right one? That's about as far as it goes now. And when I turn on the iTouch it just shows that picture of the USB and an arrow to connect to iTunes.
Annoying enough, I've tried every single solution I could find on this forum. Even with the usbaapl.sys copy paste into inf folder, still doesn't work. Countless times reinstalling iTunes still doesn't work, reset the iTouch, still no hope. So if someone would please? I understand I'm not the only one going through this. I'm on a 64bit Vista, and YES I have iTunes 64bit version installed. I'm thinking if I should go to the Apple Shop to ask for help but I doubt they'd be of any service/knowledge of this. Really really frustrating. Please help, someone!?

    Hello,
Why not? Apple staff their retail stores with 'Geniuses' for exactly this reason - all part of the Apple experience. You can reserve a booking online first:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/
Alternatively have you tried working through some of the kbase articles. I would suggest that you totally remove all Apple software components and then re-install:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Given that your issue followed a firmware update you may well need to Restore the iPod too:

Let us know how you get on.

  • Itunes not recognizing ipod touch, but recognizes ipod classic....?

This is my second time syncing my ipod touch and I've had my classic for forever and just use it to play in my car. I tried shutting down and it still did not work. Help? Thanks a bunch
Also...my computer recognizes both of them (Asus, Windows 7)

  • ITunes not recognising iPod touch

I can't sync my 2nd gen. touch with iTunes, when plugged in, iTunes doesn't recognise the iPod and the icon doesn't come up, however it does charge. I've been through all iTunes help and can't find anything. Any suggestions?

  • ITune not recognising iPod touch, on and off.

Okay, this is not the usual iTunes not recognising the iPod.
I had this problem when I first set up my iPod. After a full uninstall and reinstall of iTunes, as described in the support article, my iPod was recognised. Now I have added more music to my collection, and a couple of the apps need updating I wanted to update my iPod. I connected my iPod and nothing, it does not show in iTunes. It is showing in my computer as a camers which I really wish it would stop doing. Also when my iPod was connected the first time I set up to allow it to wirelessly update and it won't do that either.
I am stuck on what else to do. I just hope I am not going to have to do a full uninstall and reinstall every time I want to update my iPod, because it rather defeats the purpose.
I have read and followed the instructions here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/
I have even de-authorised and re-authorised my account as suggested at the Apple store. It is the latest model of touch, not sure what gen that is but it is only two weeks old. What else can I do to try and get this sorted?

Illass thank you for the reply, but as I said I have done everything on the support page. I even printed off the uninstall instructions as it gave you a rather precise order to do it in and I did check for the folders to see if they had been left, I learnt that when I updated my graphics drivers and still a game said my card wasn't up to scratch, even though my card supported shading 4.0 it only needed 2.0 for the game.
I also printed off the software conflict information otherwise I would have gotten totally lost.
However thank you for the disabling info, as it was getting a tad annoying when I was connecting it to charge up.
I decided to uninstall and reinstall again and low and behold it is recognised again. That makes it the second time I have had to do this to get my touch recognised. However doing this everytime I want to update is going to be rather annoying.
Ah the days of the Nano 2nd gen, and the innoence of those times. Shame some clumsy so-an-so knocked it out of my hand and stepped on it as it was just so simple to use.

  • Public thanks to user "Jeff Bryan" for post on itunes not detecting  ipod

after several hours of going in circles on apple's ipod support page finding no answers i came across a post by jeff that at least made my ipod semi-functional again. my only question to apple is why do other ipod users have to provide product support? and why is the advice he gave more complete than apples own web page? i have never been a big fan of apples/macs but the ipod seemed like a neat gadget so i took a chance and got one for my girlfriend. it has been nothing but problems and is always in need of some upgrade, reset, or bizzare combination of pressing buttons just to keep it running. i later purchased 3 sansas for other members of my family and they have yet to have a problem. i guess this level of maintanance is ok if you like to spend all of your time tweaking your tech toys but is completely unacceptable for a casual user that just wants to listen to music. i dont think i will be buying any more apple products.
    summary of problem:
ipod nano worked for while (needed a reset about every two months and locked up several times requiring reload of firmware)
one day itunes could not find ipod. no config changes were made to the host computer
ipod still showed up in windows as f: drive (usb mass storage device)
tried all troubleshooting tricks on page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
    loaded itunes 7.0.2.16
ran diagnostics and got green light for ipod connection status but still not showing up in itunes
itunes will only find the ipod if i put it in disk mode according to jeffs advice in link below. once disconnected, i have to put it back in disk mode for itunes to find it again
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=720510&tstart=30
if anybody has any other advice on getting this thing to function properly, it would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, thanks for the thanks!! : )
Did you follow the advice in some of the other links, like changing the iPod's assigned drive letter, or disabling fast user switching?
When I was a Windows user, I did both these things and I also had disk use enabled permanently (you can do this via the summary screen) as I found it helped with connection issues. The only downside with this is that you must manually eject the iPod after use (even with auto sync selected).
"my only question to apple is why do other ipod users have to provide product support?"
As well as these forums there's a wealth of Apple articles, but it's knowing where to look. Every other manufacturer has support forums too.
With the number of knowledgeable people who post here, you're more likely to get a good answer here than anywhere else. As long as you avoid the one or two folks who post complete nonsense!!
Don't suppose the iPod is still under warranty?

  • My itunes wont detect ipod touch over wifi

i always use itunes wifi sync for syncing songs and movies into my ipod but yesterday i got the error of bonjour service problem
i had this error  many months before but i solved this problem but now my ipod is not getting detected on itunes i tried to  delete bonjour from add/remove programs and then re-install itunes but still the problem is not solved ...please help

First, make sure your iPod software is up to date: iPod Updater - Version 1.1.1.
Try resetting it while it's connected to your computer:
    1. Lay your iPod down on your computer desk.
    2. Connect your iPod to your computer (if it's not already).
    3. Use your pointer finger from your left hand, and press down on the Menu button.
    4. Wait a few seconds.
    5. Use your pointer finger from your other hand, and press down on the Select button.
    6. Hold them down together until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't work, try connecting it via a different USB port. If not, try restoring it with the latest iPod Updater.

  • Itunes sees my ipod touch but not my ipod classic; windows 8 sees each of them

I had an ipod classic 80Gb (older device - 4th gen?) as my daily device, a 16gb touch (newer one - 4th I think) as a backup when my ancient PC crashed and died, had to get a new one.  This happened 1st of Sept.  New PC has windows 8, and I downloaded latest itunes onto it.  This latest itunes recognizes my ipod touch, even synced my new library with it (yes, I had to completely redo my playlists etc after the crash as itunes would not recognize the old library I had had on the ipod).  But plugging my (older ?) ipod classic into the same usb port, itunes does NOT even recognize that there is an ipod.  Here is what happens :
An olive green windowlet comes up (from itunes ?), beeps at me, tells me "there is a problem with this drive please scan the drive now and fix it".  I assume it means the drive with the ipod in it because the beep happens right after I plug in the usb cable.   I can see this usb port on windows file system, it says "ipod", and can, after some waiting, see the directories... iPod_Control > Music > Fxx  etc., under which there appear to be songs ... mp3 and m4a and wav files, but their names are abbreviated with 4 caps, eg. IXOK.mpe, IPDT.mp3 ... but the little earphone symbol shows beside so possibly I could even play one were I to double click it (default player might come up etc.)... have not tried this yet.  The default player mentioned would be itunes, but here is a problem :  the whole time that my unrecognized-by-itunes ipod is plugged into the usb, itunes is completely hung up... can't even move the window across the screen.  Once I pull the thing out of the usb, itunes is fine again.
This ipod that is not recognized has also been behaving as if it needs a new battery ... does not hold a charge more than a couple of hours... this has been the case since shortly before the new computer, however during the time that there is a charge it does play songs, ff, etc just like always.  So I am not sure if this has anything to do with somebody's (itunes' ?) perception that "there is a problem with this drive..."...

I ended up Erase and Syncing again just like I was moving to a new iTunes library. The relationship between my iPod Touch and iTunes got messed up. Everything else was fine. Once I did that everything backed up and re-synced fine.
So glad I didn't have to restore. The weird thing that happened was I canceled out from the Erase and Sync both times and iTunes still attempted to do it anyway. Once I let it, it worked fine.

I followed all the instructions on the suggested page. Many files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\ could not be deleted. Message said ""Cannot delete files: It is being used by another person or program"' but could not find iPodService.exe in task manager (also, the "Cannont delete ... " did not mention iPodService.exe).
Deleted all that I could. Reinstalled iTunes. Still same result. iTunes and computer both recognize my old iPod. Only the computer recognizes iPod Touch.

Any ideas on why I can't use iTunes with my touchi?  Has anyone hadluck with non apple softyware, seems apple has made a mess of itunes on this version.  I've been throught multiple threads on reinstalling and with tweaks.  I've read the apple device is faulty in this latest version, any news on when this fault will be fixed?  Love to hear from an Apple person on this.  Samsung is looking more and more attractive.
