ITunes not displayng songs after moving folder

I moved all my songs from my C drive to a new external drive, which is G. I created the folder iTunes\iTunes Music and copies all my music from where it was to the new location and then deleted it from the C. I confirmed that all my music is there at the new location, as when I click on the new iTunes Music folder, it shows folders named with all the songs I had, and I confirmed that the G drive is using up the same space as iTunes Music took in the C drive.
In iTunes, in Edit\Preferences\Advanced, it shows in the iTunes music folder location G:\iTunes\iTunes Music, which is where I changed it.
When I load itunes, there are no songs displayed. Why?
Did I do something wrong? I'm stumped.
I rebooted my pc and loaded iTunes, but no difference.

  • Itunes not recognizing songs in Media Folder

I have my Itunes Media Folder on an external HD.
When I try to play some tracks in Itunes, they have the ( ! ) next to them. A dialogue comes up that says Itunes can't find them.
But I know they're right there on the external drive.
When I choose "locate" I can easily find them.
    But Itunes cannot.
    Help. Thanks!!!

It's very connected. And Itunes>preferences>advanced shows the drive and media folder.
I can play the tracks from the drive, in the finder.
Drive has same name as always, and folder structure is same as always. thanks. what could it be?

  • Why can iTunes NOT FIND songs on an EXTERNAL DRIVE

I've read many posts regarding the use of external drives for iTunes data storage. Here's my situation:
I've just restored my computer to it's factory settings, then installed iTunes 9.2.1.5 My iTunes consists of songs only and they reside on an external drive following this path: E:\iTunes Music\(artist)\(album)\(song[s])
iTunes Music, artist name, and album name are all folders. The songs appear in numeric order (01, 02, etc.), and are individual MPEG files.
I have tried changing the iTunes Media Folder location to: E:\iTunes Music (by following: Edit-Preferences-Advanced) Indeed, I have attempted all possible folder paths...right down to individual songs...nothing works. iTunes simply does not see the folder(s)/songs. What's up?
The frustrating thing is that this very same external drive worked just fine before this whole affair! ??? What am I missing? Please provide a detailed answer. Many of us out here would like to know the secret.

You'd have had more luck if you'd moved your library files out to your external drive as well as the media. That way, when you'd reinstalled all you would have needed to do was use SHIFT-start iTunes and point it at the library on the external.
Next time you reinstall Windows backup the entire *Documents and Settings* or Users folders from the C:\ drive so that after the rebuild you can restore anything you discover you still want from your old profile.
Better yet do these backups before something goes wrong, say once a month. The following tool is great for general backups of any specifc set of folders, not just iTunes.
    <hr>
*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.

  • ITunes not showing songs that are on the iPod Touch

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation.
    I use iTunes 11.0.
I usually connect my iPod Touch to iTunes and play songs from there because I do not put songs in my itunes library.
I was doing this as usual and today when I connected my iPod Touch to iTunes, songs did not show up on the music tab of "On This iPod".
Just the previous day, I opened iTunes and there were all my songs.
Today, iTunes does not show any of my downloaded songs that were not bought from the iTunes Store.
The iTunes Capacity Bar shows that I have songs on my iPod Touch.
But when clicking on the iPod and going under the music tab in "On This iPod", there is no music other than a few songs, which were purchased from the iTunes Store itself.
I also tried third party software just today to check if I can get the songs off my iPod.
I tried using SharePod and it did not detect any songs, not even the purchased songs from iTunes.
There are songs on the iPod Touch only. I can play all the songs from the iPod Touch just fine.
They are simply just not showing up on iTunes.
How do I get iTunes to show the songs on my iPod Touch? The capacity bar says there are songs.
I tried SharePod a few times long before this happened, and it showed the songs on the iPod Touch.
I don't understand why all of a sudden the songs all disappeared from iTunes itself only.
(I would say this is similar to other issues where iTunes DOES show songs while the iPod itself DOES NOT. Mine is the opposite.)
Thank you for the help in advance.

I tried backing up the iPod Touch.
Now all the songs on the iPod Touch (except for the purchased ones) are turned to blank names and are skipped.
There is no name for each song or artwork, they all are called 'unknown'.
Only the purchased songs are left unharmed. Everything else is corrupted now.

  • ITunes Not Playing songs in library

Help!! In iTunes all the songs listed under the category of "playlists" will not play. I keep clicking on the play icon and nothing happens. BUT, if I go to the "music" category under "Library", I can click on any item and it will play just fine.
I have reinstalled iTunes and tried several other hints from the FAQ section of the support for iTunes page. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you moved your music around? Sounds like it's been moved and is not where iTunes expects to find it.

  • Itunes not playing songs properly

Itunes is playing SOME (not all) songs halfway, then skips to the next track. Some songs are missing entirely (they're listed, but when clicked doesn't play at all). Some songs is half of the right song, then is mixed with another song from another artist.
This happened before I updated to the new Itunes, did the update but still the problem persists.
Anyone know how I can fix this?

I have the exactly same problem. iTunes corrupted my entire library, 20GB of MP3s, all of them play a few seconds and then go back to the beggining. Using a sound editor I can see that it actually copied the first seconds of all songs and added it to the beggining. The number of seconds is not consistent on all the MP3s, some play 2 seconds and then go back to the beggining while others can play over 12 seconds before going back to the beggining. This happened after I noticed some of my older MP3s had an old version of the ID3Tags, so I used iTunes to convert my entire library's ID3Tag to the newer version. This happened about 2 years ago and I had no backup of my original files. The only fix to this problem I've found until now is to manually remove this extra seconds from the beggining of each MP3, but it's impossible to do that with over 5000 songs.

  • Can't locate songs after moving iTunes folder

After years of having all of my iTunes music on an external drive, I upgraded the Macbook's HD and decided to move the songs back. After doing so and pointing iTunes to the new location, it still asks me to click and find each file (which would take forever with 100GB of music).
-The ITL file and everything else has been on the Mac HD in Users/Music/iTunes with only the music on the external drive in a folder called "iTunes". All I did was cut and paste every file from the external folder into Users/Music/iTunes/iTunesMusic which was previously empty. I changed the location, it did its updating, but nothing is being located. Everything is the same as before.
-Every time I locate a song it creates a new folder called music and puts the identified tracks in there.
-Is there a script I can use to locate all of the songs since they're all right in that folder? The only thing that has changed is that they moved. For some reason iTunes isn't playing them even though I changed the location under preferences.

  • IPod Nano does not display songs after upgrading to iTunes 7.1 & SW1.3

After installing iTunes 7.1 on my WIN machine and connecting my iPod nano iTunes asked me about upgrading my iPod's firmware. After I did this all the songs on my iPod where gone. When I connect my iPod to iTunes I see that 3,8 GIG is still in use, which should be correct, and it states it is analyzing song for "gapless playback". However, my songs don't show up in iTunes, nor on the iPod. I rebooted the firmware on the iPod (menu+select) but no results.
    a) how to get my songs back to my iPod without going thru a factory reset?
    b) how to get rid of iTunes 7 and V. 6 back?
    Thank in advance.

Does it look like the song is playing at the top of iTunes? Can you see the timer moving?
Also, make sure the volume slider isn't all the way to the left (mute).

  • Had to reinstall OS and Itunes..Will not import songs from library folder

I reinstalled my Windows 7 OS and Installed Itunes 10.6 but when I add my ipodmusic folder to the library it does not import the songs into the library. I tries dragging and dropping a few songs but it deletes them from the folder.
    Any ideas?

I think I'm having the same problem. This is what I get when I try to import songs:
The iPod “Ian” is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this I Pod with those from this library?
    Yes No
What is this about? My buddy accidentally hit yes, and lost all of the songs on his iPod. I simply want to update my iPod with new material. This new material was obtained while using a different computer than what I originally used when I first got my iPod. Does anyone know how I can get music from a new computer on my iPod

  • Playlists not showing up after moving itunes to new computer

moved itunes to new computer and used an externa;l harddrive to move "iTunes" folder over.  the most recent "setup" of itunes on old computer is not showing on new computer.  For example "music" file size on external drive is 133GB - on new computer itunes, only 33GB.  and, playlists have disapeared.  any ideas?

See Make a split library portable for some background on moving the library successfully. You need the main iTunes library.itl file, its supporting files and the Album Artwork folder as well.
If you can find that data it should be possible to put everything together in the right shape and make it work.
Otherwise I have two scripts called ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats which may prove useful.

  • Album art does not match songs after syncing iPhone on new iTunes

    Hi,
I recently updated my iTunes to version 11.1.12.  After doing so, I soon realized that the album art for my songs does not transfer to my iPhone correctly.  On iTunes the album art for each song is matched correctly, but when I sync it to my phone, my phone displays artwork for other songs.  So when I have song 1 and song 2, the album art for song 1 is tagged with song 2 on my iPhone...i'm very frustrated and have tried everything but a hard reset which i'm REALLY hoping I don't have to do.
    HELP HELP HELP!!

I've had this same problem a couple times. First time I didn't have a clue as to cause but fixed it by unsyncing all music (removing it from phone) and resyncing it back on. This latest time the miss matched artwork occurred on albums I bought on my iPad and then sync'd to my computer and then to my iPhone. Artwork is fine on the iPad and computer (iTunes 10.0.1.22 on XP machine). Artwork shows as other albums for only new purchased albums from iPad. I haven't had time to do the unsyncing and resyncing but will do it this soon and report in to verify that it worked (or didn't). I'm hoping the artwork the iTunes couldn't find, and I did from various places on the net, will be there when I resync the music.

  • Moved to a new computer, but iTunes looking for songs at old folder locatio

My old pc crashed, so I copied all the songs from my old hard drive to my new machine. Now my iTunes shows 2 versions of each song and 1 version says it can't find the file. Does anyone know an easy way to have iTunes delete all the songs it can't find.

The best way to migrate an iTunes library to a new computer is simply to copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer into the <User's Music> folder of the new one, then install iTunes. It only becomes more complicated if the media folder is split out of its usual place as a subfolder of the iTunes library folder, in which case the media folder needs to be placed on the same path that it had previously or the library needs to be made portable before it is copied across.
If whatever your brother has done leaves the iTunes Media folders looking the same on both machines then copying over the library files and Album Artwork folder from the old iTunes folder to the new one should fix things, otherwise just do the whole process over.

  • ITunes saves dropped songs to wrong folder

Because of the size of my MP3 ad WAV music collection, I store my song files onto a SAS RAID array instead in my user's Music folder.  The path to this folder ls "/Volumes/Audio Storage/Music".  This has worked fine for quite a while, but I've built a new Lion system for audio work and things have gotten odd.
My starting settings in the Advanced section are both Keep iTunes folder organizaed and Copy files off.  I then drag and drop the folder into the Music panel of iTunes and after a few minutes, all 50K± songs are imported.  I then go into preferences and eable Copy Songs for any new music.  Last night I imported Fr/action's entire library and the import succeeded, but this morning I noticed that the songs had been imported int9o a new Music folder within my specified folder - "/Volumes/Audio Storage/Music/Music".  While doesn't present a problem with playback or logically managing the collection, I'm curious as to why iTunes added the new folder instead of just copying the new group / album / song hierarchy into the defined folder?
Is this a bug, or am I missing some setting?

  • A LOT of iTunes broken links/tracks after Music folder move...

So yeah, I'm getting a TON of broken links / dead track links in iTunes after having to do two things to my iTunes install recently and I'm at wits end trying to fix it.
I keep my iTunes Music Folder on an external and share the iTunes library between my work Macbook Pro and my home Macbook. Every Friday I drag my iTunes folder and all contents from my MBP onto an external and replace the iTunes folder on the 'weekend' MB, then do the same back on Monday. I keep my iTunes music 'View' as 'Date Added' so that I can always be listening to whatever is newest. It's how I roll.
Well, this week I had some data problems during the transfer and had to use a previous week's iTunes Music Folder, which was fine as I hadn't added much this week.
I also got a new external because the old one was getting a little shady, so after doing the iTunes Music Folder replacement I moved my music all over to a new external drive, told iTunes where it all was at. iTunes did it's thing, 'organized' my stuff and all seemed good - until I got back deeper into the catalogue of music and started getting a LOT of broken tracks. The songs are still there, in the correct folders and all, but for some reason iTunes isn't finding them.
When I say a LOT, I mean so far it's hundreds of my 13,000 songs.
Now I COULD use the 'Super Remove Dead Tracks' script from Doug's to find all the broken files then re-add the whole library, but it will add all the old songs out of order because they will get a new 'Added' date.
I could also manually move thru my whole library holding down the arrow key for 'Next' to find all the broken links then go thru, select them, and use the 'iTunes Track CPR' script from Doug's to re-add them to the library with ratings intact, but still they will be out of order time-wise.
I cannot find a script that will parse my library, find broken links, and re-associate them with their tracks, nor can I figure out why this happened and any other way to fix it. Repairing permissions hasn't helped. Any other ideas?

Just to follow up with a more comprehensive example of looping through a Library to detect & repair "missing" file-tracks:
