Itunes not finding all .mp3 files

I retagged all of my mp3's and ever since then itunes only seems to recognize about half of them. I am not sure if it has to do with file name length or what but it gets almost exactly half of them when I tell it to import the folder. I have tried two other media programs and both of them import everything just fine. I was wondering if this is a known problem and, if so, if there is an easy fix for it. I have tried uninstalling itunes and del. the itunes folder in my music but it still doesn't work. Thanks in advance for any help.

The samething happened to me last night, what a nightmare. Did you ever get a response or find out what to do?

    its very important files!

    tis true
I know, I always do that but I was in a rush to get somewhere and I was relying on my thousand dollar Mac to do some kind of recovery or something. I know Microsoft always keeps temporary files (I think Mac does too, part of me asking here in this forum was for someone to tell me where I can find those files) and when you go to open Office Works then it gives you the option of opening the last recent documents, saved or not saved.
I usually copy paste into my emial just in case something goes wrong with the created document but I just didn't have the time to login and do all that My loss, you live and you learn, BUT still if ANYONE got any info on this, PLEASE DO CHIME IN *keeping the hope alive*

  • Itunes Not Finding All the Movies in Folder

Some reason when I add a folder to the library it only gets 3/4 of the movies there......however, it shows that it is transferring the MP4 files, but I they do not show up under movies tab and I cannot find them anywhere in my Itunes....any ideas?

    Hello casualuser,
It sounds like your music is in a dedicated music folder on your networked drive.
If so, try a drag and drop of that folder into iTunes for it to import that folder specifically.
iTunes 11 for Windows: Import music and video already on your computer
Add items from your computer to your iTunes library
    Do either of the following:
Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window.
If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.
    Best regards,

  • ITunes not finding all my music files.

My itunes says it cannot find alot of my music files yet they are in the folder specified in my Itunes preferences iTunes Music Folder Location.
How can I get iTunes to confirm the location and correct this?
On a side note I find that my iTunes changes the location specified for the "iTunes Music Folder Location" from time to time. Why would this be happening?
    I am using iTunes 8.1 (50)

    Thanks for the quick response.
Yes the folder is located on an external drive so it could be that it was not turned on at some point. That being said how do I get it corrected in iTunes? Is there an quick way to fix this? How do I get rid of the ! in iTunes?
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

  • ITunes not displaying all synced files that are on my iPhone.

    All,
I am having an issue that I did not see here.
First, ever since the last iTunes upgrade (the one prior to the latest upgrade that added iTunes match), I have had problems with album artwork displaying on my iPhone. My efforts to solve that issue by deleting and then re-syncing tracks without artwork created another issue: Duplicate songs on my iPhone. The strange thing is, when the iPhone is connected to iTunes and I click "Music" under iPhone, the track list displayed in iTunes shows no duplicates. However, if I navigate on my iPhone (even while connected to my computer), it shows duplicates of several songs. The duplicates appear to be the ones that I tried to delete and then replace to show the artwork.
I have just done a "restore" on my iPhone to try to resolve the this issue since there apparently is no way to clear the duplicates in iTunes (remember - the duplicate tracks are not displaying). I will see if this solves the issue. Does anyone know what is happening here, and most importantly, how to prevent this from happening again? This is very annoying!

  • Panther Find may not Find all FMP files by content

Today, on a lark, I did a content search on a freshly reindexed folder using Panther's Find and also using EasyFind on the same folder. EasyFind found 13 FileMaker Pro files that contained the search term whereas Panther's Find identified only 1. I confirmed that at least some of the EasyFind found files did contain the search term.
Is there some reason that my FileMaker Pro files are not being indexed? Any way around?
Made me a believer of EasyFind!

Wow! Never been called that before. An honor. Thanks.

  • Itunes not finding files

After a disaster recovery on my computer I used my ipod to transfer all the music files back to my PC (after opening the hidden files etc).
I have selected the file from my PC and uploaded them into Itunes and synced my ipod which is working fine.
The problem I have is when I go to play any of the songs using Itunes I receive the error message "cannot find file". I know where they are on my PC but as the files are all named as per the ipod filing system (rather than by artist and song title) I do not know which file to choose.
Is there a way of getting Itunes to find all the files?????
    Any help would be appreciated.

iTunes is still probably looking for the files in their location on your iPod's Hard Disk rather than on your PC desktop.  You can look to see where iTunes is looking for these files by right->clicking on one of these tracks and selecting Get Info. When the window appears, look at Where field at the bottom of the Summary tab.
If it's still looking for them on your iPod's hard drive, you'll need to remove these files from iTunes and re-add import them.  However, before doing that again, head to Edit-> Preferences and select the Advanced tab. Make sure there is a tick mark next to Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library is ticked.  It wouldn't hurt to also tick the Keep iTunes Media folder organized as well. From there, you can re-import the file's from your iPod.

  • Exclamation mark and the message "itunes could not find your song file

Hi everyone. I've tried doing a search but couldn't find this exact problem. I hope i'm not about to annoy everyone with a question that has been asked a thousand times before.
my problem is that every now A/some song file(s).that are already in my itunes library and played fine and synced with iphones ipod app fine. well sometimes I get this little exclamation mark on A/some song(s) in the library and the message "itunes could not find your song file would you like to locate it" and when i do and it always seems to be in what itunes find box locates first anyway.......( I'm paraphrasing...........i forget exactly what it says)........the funny thing is when i try and locate the files for itunes they are exactly where they are supposed to be........ and i've been able to put the mp3 back into the itunes library in the past, but now a certain mp3 will not show up in itunes library or play. like i said I can locate it fine, i've never renamed any folders or mp3's. other mp3's in this folder play fine , but i've had exclamation marks on some of them in the past, it seems that i know of 2 folders in my music folder that always have this problem with the mp3's in them at ramdom .
does anyone know why itunes is doing this?................it happens sometimes with downloaded music and sometimes with ripped music................sometimes a single track and sometimes just a few single tracks .........it's begining to become slighty annoying........
any help would be most appreciated.

Helpful but i was reading some posts and threads about consolidate library and it seems that if the song is not in the itunes library it will not consolidate it.i've had songs in the library that i deleted from the library and i remember getting a message when i do that action if i would like to delete it from the music folder as well ( in other words trash it completly from harddrive or do i just want to delete the song from the library and still keep it in the music folder but i guess those actions have little effect if you didn't have the song in itunes music folder,, but another folder. except for the part that it will remove the song from the library. if there was a way to consolidate your music folder(s) into the itunes folder that would be cool. and still leave your itunes library with out those songs you didn't want in there, but wanted to leave in the music folder.

  • ITunes cannot find my music files and I do not have the the files on my computer

My sister got a new computer and put music files from old iTunes onto external hard drive and then put it directly into iTunes library on new computer. The music from old computer and hard drive got deleted. She synced her iPod with iTunes. Come to find out after the sync she only had 20 songs on her iPod because iTunes cond not find the original files for the 1200 other songs. Now she only has the 20 songs on her iPod and the other 1200 in iTunes won't play and have the exclamation mark next to them. She cannot locate them because she deleted them from the old computer and the hard drive. Is there anything she can do to fix it??? Please and thank you !

    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Find all music files and move to one folder for all of family to access, find all music files and move to one folder for all of family to access

I seem to have music files in various places on my laptop, on my husbands computer and our main imac.  What we want to do is put all music on imac so when each of us logs on we have the same files availabe in itunes, but we logon seperately so we can have different playlists and checked music. So here is what I want to do:
Find all music files on each computer seperately and put everything in one folder one each computer, so three folders total to start...
Move my husbands itunes library and my itunes library from each of our laptops to our main imac, making one huge itunes folder
I want to store our music on an external hard drive, which I have, so I have a full library for backup purposes.
I want all future music downloaded on any of our laptops to transfer to the main imac computer, again to keep one main library
I want all video, apps, books, etc on each laptop to be available in one file on my main imac also so we can all use them
So mainly I want to organize, organize, organize and put everything in one spot so things don't get all messed up and some items are only accessible to me some times and not my husband or vice versa.  We want to share everything we can so we don't have to pay twice. I have read many instuctions, but nothing seems to be helping me and was hoping someone could...
    Thanks, l

I am totally running into the same issue as well. On top of that, when syncing to my iPhone, it took some of the tracks from my iphone and recopied them to the iTunes library, as new files, so now I have a ton of duplicates, and tons of tracks that can't find the iTunes folder, so they have the little "!" next to them.
It would be really nice to have someone answer this question. I didn't think, moving my iTunes library to a bigger external hard drive would have caused all this madness

  • "Force" iTunes to find all music on a computer?

When iTunes is initially setup, it asks if you would like it to find and import all music on your computer. Is there a way to have iTunes find all music on your computer after the setup is complete?
The problem we're having is that music is scattered all over the place, and it would be nice to just have iTunes look for it all rather than do it ourselves. Of course, we declined the initial offer for iTunes to find all music.
    Any thoughts?

You can reset the query by deleting the two iTunes' preferences files, both named "iTunes.pref" and tucked away in your "Documents & Settings\username" area. If you invested time in creating playlists & rankings, then you should make a copy of the ITL & XML files from "My Music\iTunes" before starting the process. I'm not quite sure of the results of resetting the preference files with existing playlist data which is stored in another file.
If you don't like the results, restore the ITL & XML files to their original location to restore your library to its previous appearance.

  • Install again itunes will affect my mp3 files register?

I have to proceed to a new installation of ITunes, will I have to import again in Itunes all mp3 files from different folders I have on my computer?
Will I have to write again all titles and autors for my personal mp3 files i had from limewire?

Someone told me that album art is actually added in to the music file itself. I'm not so sure about this, though, because if I go to \My Music\iTunes I have a folder called Album Art.
It might be just a glitch with the file, though, because I've had iTunes retrieve album artwork for me (very little of my music is purchased through the iTunes Store) and I haven't run across this yet. And I'm sure I've added new files to my librar in every extension of iTunes 7, but it never hurts to make sure you're running 7.0.2.
