ITunes not importing all files

Hello,
I just got myself iTunes and imported my music folder inside of which all my music is located. Now I noticed it only imported some music, whilst it skipped other music. I tried to drag&drop the missing files into the library, but I doesn't work. BTW, works fine with WMP.
Thanks in advance,

Welcome to AD!
iTunes 7 & 8 are very picky about MP3 headers. Here's a good web page on it:

  • ITunes not importing all files in a folder

Hi everyone. I'm currently having some problems importing music into iTunes. When I select a folder to import, it only imports a select few, and the others it sort of skips over. Does anyone know the possible problem?

OK, so converting tags back and forth does not seem to help. The only way I've been able to get iTunes to recognize these tracks is to completely remove the id3v2 tags. If I readd the tags after that, it works too.
I have around 5000 tracks (randomly located, of course) that are messed up, so my only option would be to use some tag program to remove all tags from my library (around 15,000 tracks), and then to readd them. Not an attractive option.
I'm really pretty disgusted with iTunes at this point. It seems that, well, 1. using it to convert my id3v1 tags to id3v2 screwed up a good chunk of my tags, and 2. any other mp3 player can recognize these tracks.
Between my wife and I, we have 3 ipods, so it would be nice to get some support directly from Apple at this point. Sorry to vent, but my wife wants to kill me because she can't get the Smiths or the White Stripes, among many, many others on her ipod. Argh....

  • ITunes not importing all my music files

My little brother was using my laptop and "unintentionally" uninstalled itunes. Well, he then "unintentionally" deleted the file that itunes used for my library.
Luckily, he didnt actually delete any of my actual music on my hard drive. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and installed it. I went to import my music from my hard drive. It went without a hitch (or so it seemed). As I was looking at music to put on my ipod nano, i noticed that several tracks from a Pimsleur foreign language learning CDs were not in my itunes (I took a basic japanese course for a trip I was taking). Tracks 1, 2, 9 and 10 were there, but 3 - 8 were absent. So I went ahead and tried to import them by importing a file. It didnt work,I tried to import the entire folder again, it didnt work.
My previous iTunes library had no trouble recognizing these CD tracks. All of my music is in MP3 format, btw just to clear up anyone thinking incompatibility issues. What can I check? What can I change? I have yet to uninstall iTunes to see if that would fix this issue. Anything I can try in the mean time?

If this doesn't work, I'd suggest re-importing the original CD into iTunes (or at least the tracks that are not working correctly).
    CG
I did as you asked and tried to play it in Itunes. It worked. It played just fine. I tried to import it again. This time it imported them, but instead of importing them correctly, it doesnt have any of the tag information but a name, disc number and track number. No artist, composer, genre, etc.
The only thing I can think that is different is that I "upgraded" to the new version of iTunes instead of keeping the old version. I checked my other program, media monkey, they show up in it just fine, minus the genre. I think there is a problem with iTunes.
    Anyone else have this problem?

  • Itunes not syncing all files to ipod - permissions error

With the newest verison of itunes is not syncing all of my files to my ipod - this is so frustrating! I have taken itunes/quicktime completely off my dell and reloaded with the newest version of itunes/quicktime. Changed to manually managing my ipod files. Now I have 2 problems left - 1. 2 recently purchased audio books show up in my ipod file in itunes but do not show up on my ipod; 2 I can ony get 100 of 500 songs to load onto the ipod with a warning that I do not have permission for the rest.

Same problem here, same application versions. I'm trying to get them to sync to an iPhone but it doesn't actually sycnc. They play without issue in iTunes. I converted them from flac to Apple lossless using dbpoweramp.

  • Aperture does not import all files in folder.

I have a folder with 3460 images.  They are a combination of NEF, TIF, and PSD and xmp files.
When it was finished importing it said it had imported the 3460 images; however, there are only 3278 images showing.
I tried starting a new library, and importing the same folder again.  Again, I got 3278 images.
If I use the Finder and go to the folder, it shows 3496 files; however, 36 of those are .xmp files.
Any idea how I can check to see which files are not importing?  Or what I can do to get these 182 files in Aperture?
    Many thanks for any help.

Could be just chasing a ghost, but at least we'll know we don't have to capture it.  Let's do two things to determine how many Images Aperture thinks are in the Library.
    1.)
Select the container "Photos" listed near the top of the Library Inspector.
Clear the filter.  (In Browser view, click the magnifying glass icon _inside_ the search field, and select "Show all" from the dropdown menu.)
Deselect all.  ("Edit ▹ Deselect All".)
Expand all Stacks.  ("Stacks ▹ Open all Stacks".)
What does Aperture report in the bottom border of the Browser?  Should be something like "1234 items displayed".
    2.)
    Close Aperture.
"{option}+{click}" the Aperture Dock icon.  (Hold {option} down until the dialog shows up.)
Select your Library from the list.
What does Aperture report below the list of Libraries (you may have only one Library in the list)?  Should be something like "1234 versions, 1234 originals".

  • ITunes Not Adding All Files?

    Hey guys...
I have recently purchased an Ipod Classic & have a little problem with iTunes. I'm not unbelievably computer minded so it's most probably user related. I'm trying to add my music folder which is 70GB but when I do it only adds 61GB. Any reason why? All the files are the same & most are off CDs. I tried & experiment, I deleted all the songs out of iTunes & tried to add just one which was one of the ones which didn't wanna be added. When I try adding this file it just doesn't do anything. No popup or error saying it can't add it, it just doesn't show up in my bare iTunes list. The file is MP3, which will play on every other media player software I have on my computer. Please why won't it play through iTunes? And is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks

Later versions of iTunes have become fussy about tags in MP3 files. If the files are in your library, they won’t play and if they are not in your library, iTunes will not add them, but it doesn’t tell you why.
You can try running one or two of the files you can’t add through a MP3 Validator. There is a great explanation of how it works [here|http://trevinchow.com/blog/tag/mp3-tag-validator]

  • ITunes not importing MP3 files

Hi, I've purchased an album online from an MP3 retailer and downloaded the tracks from the album (I've done this quite a few times from this web site).
iTunes imported them fine using the "Add folder" function, however I've found that the song is skipped on my iPod.
I've tried to play the tracks from iTunes and they just don't play. So I deleted the tracks and tried to reimport them, but the Add from Folder function just doesn't do anything - no error, no music in iTunes. Strangely, I added other MP3 files to the same folder and tried adding from the folder again, and the new tracks imported fine, but the original album tracks did not.
I have double clicked on them from Explorer and Media Player plays them just fine, so the files seem OK. I've tried adding the files individually and tried using Explorer to "Open with iTunes" - again, nothing.
This is really annoying me - has anyone else had this issue? I'm using iTunes 7.6.2.9 on Windows Vista.
    Cheers,
    Pete

OK, if iTunes can't import the file, you could try working on the ID3 tag with a tag editor or repair tool. But if you experiment, always do it on a copy.
You could try MP3 repair tool:
    http://www.drtag.de/en/description_mp3rt.htm
MP3 Tag Studio also claims repair capabilities http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/
    Remove iD3 tags

  • Itunes not importing mov files

Hi, my itunes stopped importing the mov files. Can anyone help, i burned some movies with subtiles and it worked for the first 4 movies, but then it stopped. I tried drag and drop or add file to library and nothing happens!!

How can I tell that. I have several. I am also unable to view them in the finder window like I can other .m4v or .mov files.

  • Itunes 10.2.2 not importing all files within a directory

Hello all, here is my very frustrating issue.
I am running Itunes 10.2.2.14 on a x64bit Windows 7 machine and i am having an issue importing my full library from an external USB harddrive. Originally all the music on this external drive was at one point in time completely imported and functioning in iTunes. The short version of this long story is that I moved my main personal server from windows 7 to ubuntu, after installing VM player and attaching a external HD with my music iTunes will only import 7% of my music!! I have doubled checked permissions and this is not an issue. This is also not a format issue as the mass majority of my music is .mp3.
I have cleared the music library several times, and even used another PC to import the folder and have found that iTunes appears to be importing the exact same 7% of my music library. The only article i have found that is even close to providing a explaination is page 4 on this discussion here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2566265?start=45&tstart=0
Although this workaround appears to be for a Mac, is there any way to do this in Windows/Linux?
I do not have this issue importing into Ubuntu Rythmbox. If this is really an issue of extended attributes where did they come from and why is iTunes rejecting the import with absolutely no message/errors?
This is a major bug (to me) as i am currently unable to sync the mass majority of my music, much of which was purchased from Apple!?!?!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks.

UPDATE--> Manually adding folders (drag from explorer and drop on music libray) appears to be functioning as a work around. I have been testing individual folders and so far so good.
While this may be a workaround i have HUNDREDS of folders! =(

  • "Import folder to library function" does not import all files

Has anyone ever had this problem importing a music folder into the library? All of my music is in the iTunes music folder on my PC which is networked to my laptop. I have been trying t import that folder into iTunes on my laptop but have not been able to get everything to import.
There are approx 35,000 songs in the folder and each time I try to import it, I get a different number (Usually less than 24,000 songs).
Does anyone know if there is a size limitation to the library?

To make it go a little faster, drag and drop the folders into the open iTunes window rather than using Add Folder to Library. That way you can do multiple folders at a time.
Within Windows, CTRL-click to select multiple folders, and then drag them into the open iTunes window.

  • ITunes does not import certain files

    Hi everyone,
I had to reinstall my WinXP system and therefore also reinstalled iTunes (v9.0.3.15). Now, when I imported my whole MP3 directory, iTunes did not import some albums without displaying any error message. When I realized that some albums are missing, I tried to import them using drag&drop from the Windows Explorer, using the "File-Import file", "File-Import directory" (or whatever these menu items are called in english...), but nothing works! iTunes simply does... NOTHING. No error, no file imported, no action at all.
The files are fairly typical MP3 files: 192 kbps, 44kHz, ID3v1, ID3v2 both present, no DRM... And the most weird fact is: on my old WinXP system (same machine, but slightly older iTunes version) iTunes did import the files without problems!
I have no clue why iTunes won't import them. Does anybody else have an idea?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    gehho.

    Hi ed2345,
thanks a lot for proposing the MP3 Validator! This fixed my problem. For others having a similar problem: I used this software: http://www.gromkov.com/faq/repair/mp3_validator.html
However, I must say that I am really annoyed about iTunes and Apple. I mean, what kind of design is it when you say: "We do not accept slightly invalid files, although every other player accepts them. And most important: We do not display an error message to the user, so that he/she has to find the problem him/herself! Ha!" This is really extremely bad user experience, and I always thought Apple was known for their innovative path, especially regarding user experience. Pfff...
There are sooo many other things that annoy me; I think I will not buy any Apply product anymore. In my eyes, they have even overtaken Microsoft in being the most user-unfriendly company on the market:
    1) You HAVE to use iTunes to copy files on your iPod instead of just using the iPod as a USB drive. What is this for??? It's just to promote their stupid iTunes which again introduces new problems.
    2) iTunes obviously does not accept ID3v1 tags. It just displays all my MP3s which only have v1 tags as "Unknown". Come on, every other MP3 software supports ID3v1, why does not iTunes???
    3) The import process in iTunes is such a hassle. Instead of being able to observe a directory for new files, you have to add every single new album manually. Of course, only after you validated it... Moreover, you cannot add multiple directories at once using the menu options - you have to do it with drag&drop; and it took me some time to try that.
    4) EDIT: Another point just came to my mind: When importing a whole directory, iTunes is stupid enough to add all files once again, instead of just adding the new files. Therefore, you really have to know which album is missing in iTunes because otherwise you will have lots of files twice or three times or hundred times.
OK, that's enough for now. I am just really pi**ed off because I was playing around with those "invalid" files for about 5 hours. Might also be that it's me who's the stupid one - if so, please tell me. But from a company like Apple, I expect a software which is easily handled even by absolute newbies, and I would not call me a newbie...
Anyway, have a nice day everyone, and happy validating!
Thanks again to ed2345! The comments above were not meant for you! It just came out of my fingers... Btw: As you asked my to pick my interpretation... I would pick "INCOMPETENT" - completely!

  • ITunes doesn't import all files from xml library

Hi, yesterday I did some changes on mi library. I have 3.000 music files and i didn't want to change the files path manually, so I edited the .xml file, damaget .itl and tried to reimport. It worked, but iTunes didnť import all of my songs, just few of them (about 82) and I don't know how.
The problem is, that I have backup, backup of original iTunes library, but files are not in "old locations", i moved them to new folder and deleted the old - when I tried to fetch missing files in iTunes, it didn't find anything and i had to search it manually.
    Can someone help me? Thanks!

    Restore your pre-damaged .itl file.
Select an album's worth of tracks.
Run my script FindTracks and point it at the new media folder.
If it works, select the whole library and repair the rest.
If it doesn't work explain further about what you've reorganized.

  • ITunes will not import mp4-files.

For some reason iTune will not import mp4-files into iTunes. The files only contain audio, no video. I know that mp4 is a format that combines the two.
The files were generated in an earlier version of iTunes, like in 2006 or something. They were imported from CD's. I can locate them just fine on my computer and they play without problem in Windows Media Player.
The problem is that when I try to import them the way that iTunes want me to import files its like they don't exist. ITunes locates the folders and sub-folders, but its like there's no content in the folders...
I've tried changing my import settings but nothing seems to help...
Have any of you encountered a similar problem, could you fix it and how?
I've contacted Apple-support but they were unable (incompetent) to assist me...
To me it seems like the only option left is to convert all the files, like 2 GB, from mp4 to mp3.
Thankful for any help I could get solving this ***** of an issue...
    //Magnus

iTunes can handle just about any file format that works with QuickTime and will play any file purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store. If you've got video files that end with a .mov, .m4v, or .mp4 file extension, you can import them to iTunes with ease. However, the video especially the MP4 video must meet the following specifications: it must be encoded as 540 kbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with an approximately 128 kbit/s AAC audio track or encoded as 1.5 Mbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with a minimum 128 kbit/s AAC audio track. If not, you will fail to import MP4 to iTunes.
Even if your MP4 files meet the above specifications and are added to iTunes successfully, it may still fail to sync to iOS devices. For iPhones, iPads, and video-capable iPods play videos in more specific video formats and codecs.
Here is a detailed guide to get iTunes unfriendly MP4 to iTunes

For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.

  • ITunes does not import all artists/songs from folder

I have had several issues with getting itunes to import all the music I have. I have selected the folder that I want itunes to be associated with. But when I go into itunes not all the artists imported. However, if I select add a folder, and then the artist, it imports the artist. I have tried to add the whole folder again, but still does not import all the artist/songs. At first I didn't think that I had imported the CDto the folder, but then when I went into my music folder it was there.
A couple of times when I have opened iTunes it was like starting over. I lost my playlists. I am not as concerned in getting those back as long as I won't lose all the changes I am now making. We also own two iPod shuffles, don't know if that makes a difference.
    Thanks inadvance for any information!

I had a similar problem with a Jimmy Buffett album,I sent the iTunes store an e-mail described the problem including the album title and receipt number and within 24 hours they responded and had done a "reset" and problem solved.
    Give it a try
